Приєднався 28 лип 2021
This is the Metric version of Throttle Blip. This channel features bike builds, reviews, news, and riding of any and all metric bikes and maybe a few Harleys!
Honda CRF300L Rally - FULL REVIEW & TEST RIDE
In this video I ride and review the 2023 Honda CRF300L Rally. This is one of my favorite dual sport motorcycles for the money. It does both on and off road really well and doesn't break the bank with a starting MSRP of $6,200 USD.

Throttle Blip Metric! New channel - New Bikes!
Переглядів 23310 місяців тому
The Throttle Blip channel you all know and love, just the metric version of it! This was just a quick channel intro letting you know what to expect!
I've been looking for a 1st bike since the early 90's..... I'm saving money but in this time I've got a list of 7-8 dual sport bikes & I just realized this one recently. Also in my research I've gone thru & found out all the MOD's for every bike on my list & what type of money it'll cost along w/ how feasible it'll be getting around to those upgrades afterwards. This Rally version is on my short list but I've got a question for anyone who might know. Plastics >> > this bike has so much plastic that I'm kinda looking to see if it might be wise to take the plastics off, wrap -n- store them opting to purchase a secondary set that can be colored & done any way you like but some guys do this exact thing on their bigger bikes? I haven't looked up replacement or stock stuff but I'm guessing it would be high priced so would it be worthwhile to do this? Any thoughts on it? peace & I subb'd/HiT bell
bEAUTİFULL 👏
Perfect for what I am looking for. Thank you for posting
Why dafuk would you not show the fender going on? That's literally the only reason we came.
Great review. Now you just need some proper footpegs for it; )
Seriously considering this.
Just buy the 300l if all you are doing is riding off-road with it. The Rallye is way more capable than what you are using is for.
Just a little more info for you. If you cut your aluminum sub frame and decide you don't like it welders weld aluminum every day. Can probably take bike to a welding shop or vocational school and get it fix up for $50 - 100. use your head.
Watch itchy boots here on YT to see how capable this bike is for long range travel. She’s going around the world on a CRF300 Rally.
You should have put the Graves blocking plate on. Makes a real difference.
Great review!
Yes it's dumb.
Love the bike, hate the color scheme.
As always another fantastic detailed video 🇺🇸🎉🍾🇺🇸 Keep producing more videos about the CRF.
I owned a 22 450RL and sold it. I put in an aftermarket ECU and it had plenty of power and ran great. The only bad thing is, it’s 70-80lbs to heavy. Otherwise I would have kept it. Bought a KTM 350 EXCF and never looked back. I did have to put a Vortex in to make it run good and there is the deal with any modern 4 stroke, they need a new ECU due to emissions.
I need to try this stuff
Muc-off is the business for sure
Awesome cleaner, is that Parson's Mtn mud??
Sure is! Tried to clean out those puddles for you guys! Haha
Stupid
They're fun little machines. Just over 10,000 kilometers on mine now in all sorts of terrain here in Australia 😎👍
We ended up taking it on my single track course and it was surprisingly good! haha
If you leave phone at home,or it gets smashed, no way of checking charge!
Look what is happening in the ev market, less buying em,after the flash in the pan is gone! Imho looks dull as dishwasher, ugliest bike ever, but hey just my 2 cents
I like the looks, esp the Gray color! Also no graphics from the factory so that would help make it more "flashy".
I have a 500EXC and an 890AdvR for the US; but, I’m building up my ‘23 300 Rally in the Philippines. Unlike the KTM, upgrades for the Honda are limited. I only changed the bars, pegs, exhaust, tail-tidy, levers, rack and shifter/brake. Sus mods are expensive and Rekluse clutch isn’t available.
Dang it I think Im going to have to buy the GET!! What kind of mileage are you getting now? Im getting about 50mpg in Colorado on the stock bike. Some people said their mileage got better.
Liked and subscribed. Want one badly, lol.
I am a new follower(nr:406) of your channel Greetings from Türkiye 😊
Have one coming any day to complement my Moto Guzzi V85TT. Honda will be a better off road bike but road capable and the MG the better road bike for longer trips. Keeping my '98 Ural sidecar rig for snow and down the road when I can't handle two wheels anymore.
I've got a 17 built 250 Rally. Love almost everything about it except in windy conditions on freeway. I have a 750 also, but find the Rally so much more fun and easier for commuting, light off road. Great small package with the tower...I had to adjust and slow down to meet the bikes capabilities.
10k now on my 250 rally, never a problem .
37mpg? He must ride the dog poop out of it! Most of us are getting 65-75mpg.
lol, it can be inaccurate due to idling and other situations , when riding at a steady speed for a minimum of a few minutes then it's accurate .
@@leeinwis lol, when you lose, literally half your fuel efficiency, there is obviously something else more at play, other than the “normal” inaccuracies in operating conditions.
@@airadaimagery692 I was talking about it saying (on the screen) it's avg miles per gallon, if a person kept track and figured it out themselves it would be far different. I own the bike and get 70 mpg , tested many fills .
Great to see more items on the sister channel. Keep em Coming. I did chuckle when you were listing the spec’s of the bike as all were imperial measurements on the “metric” channel :)
Here we go 🏁
Can i get it bro?
How much bro? If me want it?
yes ... don't waste money.. use the stock bolts in my opinion. You can use the money on performance wise upgrade.
Good video, could be any maker but shows the weight and design compromises that we have to make. No such thing as the perfect bike for everything.
Unfortunately I think that will always be the case! Nothing will ever beat the right tool for the right job.
Definitely thinking about putting this one on my new rl. Are you going to cut a hole or remove the skid plate for oil changes?
Remove it just to keep myself accountable about cleaning out any dirt or mud that gets trapped in there.
Sick bikes brother. Have u added a flywheel weight to the Honda ? Heard that helps the bike lug better. If I could convince the wife I would have both also.
I didn’t but I do have experience with that and it helps a good bit! Now that I have the KTM I’m okay keeping the Honda snappy. How forgiving is she? I just showed up with both of mine 🤣
A really useful video 👍🏻
I've got a 300L and a ktm 500exc. The 300L is dangerous on trails unless you respring it. Fine for gravel roads, great even. Lackluster on the highway, and maybe dangerous as a result of no ability to accelerate quickly at highway speeds. It also feels unnecessarily heavy. But easy to own. The 500 is scarily light on the highway but has plenty of umph to pass fast traffic. In the dirt its a dream, but the engine prefers more open trail at 50 mph and above. Still, I can crawl, lug or whatever in single track and it still feels super nimble. It's a dream, but it's biggest drawback to me is more a limit of physics not the engineers, if you want to ride a featherweight on the highway, you better expect to get blown around and the 500 is only 237lbs dry.
I like both your channels. I have Harley Davidson and a zx14. Love them both. Whatever mood I am in at the moment I decide on which one to ride. Sometimes both in the same day. I must be bipolar lol 😢
I bought a brand new 500 exc-f this year , fun build and liking the dual sport thing. It was hard not to buy that 450 RL sitting next to it at the dealer. Really like the Honda also.
I have the Yoshi full exhaust + vortex ECU and emissions delete with other mods. Bike runs amazing now.
Hope Honda didn't use the same starter set up as the rx. Some sort of design defect as they fail repeatedly, like there is an engineering flaw and things don't align. They keep failing and without a kick your SOL event o get out of the woods never mind the expensive fix that simply puts the same soon to fail parts back in. Some guys well the cogs together and that seems to be a fix of sorts.
I haven’t heard about that so hopefully not an issue. I’m in some L and RL groups on Facebook so I’ll look into it. Thanks for the heads up!
@@throttleblipmetric Search starter reduction gear failure.
I've got 23 890 R. Love it. A real beast.
I can see myself adding one to the fleet eventually. It’s the perfect size ADV for most people.
Molecule flag hand guards - protect the levers on tip overs? any first hand experience with them working?
That’s my hope. Oddly enough I dumped my bike 5 times in one day before I put them on. Haven’t dumped it once since the install. Haha. If you aren’t already, leave your levers slightly loose so they hopefully rotate on impact. I even put teflon tape under the clamps. Most people already do this but in case you didn’t know. For what it’s worth I like the molecule flags so much I’m putting them and the skid plate on the new KTM as well.
Just did the same... swapped my 1090R for a 890R. No regrets!
The 890 just seems to be more versatile. His was an 18 or 19 and 2023’s look a lot better as well.
@@throttleblipmetric I own a '22... 'old' look.. but I prefer it to the '23. Appears more hardcore & less sophisticated imo.
N+1 rule. N is the # of bikes you currently own. Best bike for the job at hand. For me, none of those are a big, hefty ADV bike. Whether its a Pan America, or a GS... its no offroad bike. Touring bike cosplaying as an offroad machine. I'll stick with a sportbike (or super-naked) for twisty roads, a light dual sport, and a proper dirtbike. There is no "do-it-all" machine. Its always a compromise. Nice choices. The xc-w is a handfull. I found it easiest to lug 3rd gear in single track, and lug 2nd in the tight bits. I have a wr250r/x for dual sport and supermoto duty. Weighed it with two bathroom scales the other day. 304lbs full of fuel... ugh... time for a proper woods bike.
Very well said!! I used to have a KTM 690 SMC for a super moto and that bike was amazing. It was a much more capable bike than I was a rider for it though.
@@throttleblipmetric the seat on the 690 might as well be made out of a 2x4... Real nice in tight corners, and good for wheelies!
From my 50+ years of riding, at least 2 motorcycles are required: an adventure bike for fast pavement rides to easy off-road trails., and a lightweight enduro bike for technical and difficult trails. My 2017 KTM 1090R is awesome for fast pavement rides to easy trails, and my 2023 KTM 350 EXC-F is incredible for difficult trails. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Great suspension, lightweight and 300cc are not words I would use to describe the Rally. Plasticky, overweight and underpowered at 286cc or how I would describe it personally after riding one.
That’s comparing it to bikes more suited for the road. Also not a dig on you but underpowered is likely based on your skill level. Daniel is an A class rider and is always in front of the much more powerful ADV and Dual Sport bikes.
@@throttleblipmetric I am for sure on the lower end of the skill level, in line with who the Rally is marketed/hyped towards. On an incline with camping gear in the hills I had ZERO roll on power while constantly feeling I was going to get run over by traffic. For trail riding and around town most would be better off with a 300L or KLX. My buddy has spend some $$ on plastic parts for the Rally and added even more weight with crash bars. May as well have a DR650 or XR650.
Agreed. Stock suspension is garbage if you're not a 115lb woman. Power is lacking, but you just have to pin it everywhere. Agree with you on the 300L being a better choice. The 250L was even worse. anemic, and heavy.
New subscriber here. Just discovered your channel yesterday. We must have similar taste in bikes. My off road bikes are a Beta XTrainer and a CRF450L. I ride my CRF450L on single track quite a bit, but not on highly technical single track. As long as the single track is flowy, I think the CRF450L beats the XTrainer. On the slow speed technical stuff is the only place I've found the CRF450L lacking; that's why I have the XTrainer! I could get my XTrainer plated, but if I will be connecting trail, I think I'll just use the CRF450L. That's what I have it for. Connecting trail and short commuting on occasion. I gave up riding pavement because compared to off-road, it's too easy. I'd have to be riding like a total tool to get the same sort of stimulation as I get off road. Also, I live too close to a major city and the traffic can get insane at times. Often not a place to be on a motorcycle.
I also have the 450L and for desert and mountain, it's perfect! I don't do anything real technical, if I can't gas it to get through/over something, I avoid it. 😄 I have the 20L Nomad tank as I mostly do long-range exploration and BDR type rides, and the occasional desert race.
I'll never buy KTM again. Sence they have added a pay window to get all the options locked up electronically. Yeah, a 10k bike, then you have to pay more money for it to do what they advertise. Pay windows may work on a 60 buck video game. But is BS on a pricey dirtbike.
