Yeah, I feel that there's a bit of a strawman argument going on with that, as I pointed out in the vid. That being said, when selling their latest EQ plugins, marketers might heavily imply that their EQ sounds different. My main argument is that plugin EQ design can make EQs sound and behave very differently, but mostly doesn't matter: whatever gets you up and mixing is the "right" EQ for you. @@shanebullard7995 Me too! I got the news of the bx_xl too late to include testing. But it looks really incredible. Could use a smart mastering limiter like this for pre-masters, rather than leaning on Ozone 11 (which I tend to do more often than not these days).

It all makes sense when you realise it's basically just an ad for his courses. We're all trying to make a buck on YT, so no holding that against anyone. Hey man! Good to hear from you again. As I state a couple times, I'm in agreement with his base premise: linear digital EQs are the same or very similar; and no plugin is going to save you if you don't know what you're doing. I just found the approach to be a bit too broad and we needed some nuance. Have you continued with development of those aix plugins? They were VERY promising!

Thanks for the kind words! What you're hearing is a purposefully flattened "boardmix." On the full mix I did basically exactly what you suggested! The band is Arkana and the song is Struggle and Torn. It's off Spotify until updated mixes are done (plus a surprise guest drummer records on it-that will be its own video soon). Totally agree about Session Keyboards, but then again, I mostly just slapped them on a track and randomly tried things out. The Keyboard controls include separate controls for left and right hands, plus all the tweaks to phrasing that Bassist had. So I'm sure it can get there in the end. When's your new vid dropping?!?

It would be fair to say that I'm in the process of fully transitioning to defaulting to SSL paths in my mix templates (with Slate plugins waiting in the wings). They feel so console-y, run lean, and sound incredible; and they allow me to mix through SSL 360º! Thanks! When's your next vid?!

So true. I've tried so many DAWs, and each one has something I wish they all had-as well as infuriating things I'm glad they don't. I'm working on a supplementary LUNA vid where I actually record takes into it and inspect MIDI capabilities. How have you found it in these areas?

They're off to a great start. UA is so respected, I think they hit the ground running with LUNA. It's had lots of attention and adoption, with several of my most respected audio UA-cam guys and mix engineers stating openly that they're switching to it! I'm going to get back to LUNA soon. It just was released a little over a week ago, so no one had heard of it! I'm really impressed with it, and I can see myself using it to check if sources have any sneaky resonances. Perhaps I should've made it clearer that Elements is not full versions of each Ozone app. I've added it to the title now-big oversight! Universal Audio's been knocking it outta the park lately with track saturation

Hype is a many-splendoured thing! For me, I like the precision of DeRes for tracking down and killing one res at a time. It's a different tool than the more auto-, full-spectrum ones like Soothe, Reso, and Smooth Operator. Also didn't get any mp3-style artifacts no matter how hard I pushed it-while even Soothe 2 starts to introduce some when pushed. Super-light on overhead too. I'll have to do a head-to-head with a few of these plugins on a troubled source like the vocal stack in this vid! Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@dahlhousestudios ok, thanks. And was the cpu load huge as well? I put 3 instances in logic and got severe performance issues. I LOVE most W.A. plugins I own, etc. vocal and kickshapet, awesome perls for no money.

@@monkmusic5994 That's surprising! I had about 10 instances running in this already pretty big project and they didn't even move my Cubase CPU meter-so I didn't think to even address any CPU issies. I will try it in Logic. Thanks for the heads-up!

THere's something about LUNA… It feels simple and clean-though it's not really missing any major features. And the sound when lighting up those API plugins… so good. But what's with those shortcuts?! 2-handed zoom shortcuts will never make sense to me. I tried Mixbus a few years ago. Similarly impressed with the tone and desk-like flow. As for price-to-plugins ratio, they seem pretty similar, actually. Mixbus 10 is $149; LUNA is $299 to get the Pro Bundle. But it's been on sale for as little as $99. Just keep your ear to the ground and check that deals page in LUNA refreshed and it'll go on sale soon. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I hear ya. I've got my own flow within Cubase to get a similar feel to the LUNA API stuff. But, LUNA just puts it together so smoothly, we could see using it just for mixdown. (Not that we've gone and done that yet though😅). Thanks for commenting and watching!

For v10 it looks like the SSL 9kj EQ will be an option as well as Atmos!
