HOT Winter Deadstick Hybrid Bass/Wiper Fishing
I can see the pros and cons of this, I can tell you that the u bolt will definitely wear out faster than the reel lock. and I can see how someone will be able to miss this if they don’t have the ez load trailers specially on a windy day.
Added the sport model to my new nitro trailer. Kept seeing white stuff on the pads after launching boat. 5th time using I noticed it was scraping away the paint on the nose of the z19. So upset about it. How can this happen with the material used. No metal touching the boat.
Terrible device…….it’s been around for at least 20 years. Had one on my boat…..drive on and spring loaded pin slides across, locks boat on. But the trouble is as you pull up the ramp, if the boat slides back at all it will lock the pin so you can’t pull it back. So the next time you’re at the lake you can’t pull the pin to launch the boat. Finally took it off and threw it away.
Ramp-n-clamp system. It’s great, I had the older original version and just got the new one that looks like yours but with the sport latch setup. It’s awesome.
Cool product thanks for the tips
You bet!
I have 1 used in great condition model T version for deep V, Tracker, Lund, etc……bought it for $350……selling for $250 if anyone interested……
I rather stick with thw winch, I can forseen shortcomings, some of them already mentioned.
@@redgolf845 you still winch it afterwards. It’s more of it holds the boat in place until on land then winch it right where it’s not in the latch while in tow.
No need to winch after it latches in my opinion. I just put on safety chain and winch hook
I’ll bet it didn’t work on the water???
@@lwilliams55 if you watch till the end I loaded it and unloaded it. I’ve used it so far about 10 times and so far it’s working great.
Or instead of power loading and wrecking boat launches for others you could simply get your lazy ass off the boat and just winch it in by hand like all of us poor people, it’s actually very effective and trust me,,, a little water on your feet won’t unalive you little girls.
Need to start buying them all pink dresses!
Definitely not a mechanic……
@@martys4814 is it that obvious lol 😂?no doubt I’m not a mechanic, but I do what I can myself.
Good info right here. I've been considering buying one of these for my Skeeter. Has it continued to work well for you ? Thanks for sharing.
Used it maybe 10 times and still works. Essentially it’s a temporary holder for it until you get out and winch the boat where all the weight isn’t on the latch. I would think if you didn’t winch it some, the latch wouldn’t last as long.
After putting gator glide on the bottom of my Jon boat, the boat would slide right off my trailer. I installed one of these last year , and it’s been amazing. I tied a short piece of Paracord to the handle, and just toss it on top of the bow before I launch.
@@bigdunford my uncle airboats, I sent him that product to see if he uses something similar on his bottom.
I've had one for 2 years when you fish by yourself this thing is great
So far we are liking it too.
I have one and I love it!!! No more climbing out of the boat and cranking to boat up on the trailer!!!
@@Michaelnation22 I definitely hated doing it. Especially since we fish in the winter a lot and didn’t want to get in the water.
I live in Michigan power loading is prohibited on every state owned launch so that thing is useless I called out a guy here promoting one and he took my comment down when I posted the law from the DNR team Jesus outdoors he even showed it at a DNR launch
Fishing alone in Michigan is one of the reasons I got one of these. At least with my Ranger Trailer I can put it in far enough to just slowly drive on and have it latch. Then the boat will settle in the bunks when you pull out slowly. At least for me anyway.
@@glenndaugherity6187 so are you special or something that you think it’s okay for you to do just because you can’t load your boat alone
Are you saying it’s illegal to use this? This keeps you from having to power load. But that’s wild they make it illegal. They think of everything to regulate you folks up north.
@@BooneBoys yes if you go to a dnr launch there’s a big sign saying no power loading it washes out the ramp even a lot of private launches have a sign for it thinking it has something to do with how the ramp is installed a lot of them are cement slabs set in place and it takes most of the summer to repair them the last time they did my local lake I think it wasn’t opened until the end of August
@@Kurt-n4i what the fuck are you talking about
There was a product something really close to this one made and sold over 10 years ago. The problem was once it locked on it took an act of Congress to get it to release on the next trip. It didn't last very long.
Hopefully this lasts. I don’t see why it wouldn’t by looking how it’s made. It doesn’t have a problem unlatching, at least on our boat.
I have one and find it difficult to align so that the hook on the boat will align with the groove on the hitch. I find that once the boat is close I have to go up to the front of the boat to verify if I am aligned and then go back to the console and move the boat on up. Second problem is that you have no way to verify if it’s locked in.
I’ve loaded now about ten times or so and I know what you are talking about. I missed it on windy days. Now after doing it more it’s more of a feel thing, especially since I can’t hear it either. But it sure is nice to not climb over anymore.
I am lucky as I have ultimate bunks. I can hear click but with these bunks if it is not hooked the boat will slide right back off trailer
I have the drotto system. Absolutely love it. Remember to take the lever off during trailering. Some guys say it can bounce and cause it to come unlatched. Great video as always.
I looked at the Drotto and flipped a coin. I never thought about it bouncing and unlatching. Seems like it would take one heck of a bump. Thanks for commenting!
So do I, it's great!! Tight lines🎣🎣🎣
I have the Drotto also, I think it's better. Never had a problem with it unlocking. Mine is a 90 degrees, but I suppose if you made it long and straight it could be a possibility. But I keep my winch strap connected when trailering so it's not a problem.
The manual says this one doesn’t need to come off. It is not as heavy as Drotto. I returned my drotto as it wasn’t nearly as smooth of mechanism as this one
I’ve had the Drotto set up on my boat for 10 years. Never has it unlatched by itself. Love it. The winch strap fits no problem.
the problem with these rangers is the bunks are super sticky. i have harder time getting it off than on.....and i dont like or trust rollers.
I’ve never had the rollers. But I’d agree you have to go pretty deep to unload off the bunks.
He found every socket after the video, except the 10mm.
lol. No doubt it’s the one that rolled behind a tire.
I've been looking at these for some time now. Might buy myself one as well. Idk why boat companies don't install this from factory.
I agree. Makes zero sense that in 2024 we are getting out of the boat hopping over graphs, trolling motors, risk of slipping and falling to winch up a boat. I’ve loaded about 10 times since getting this and so far it’s a great purchase.
@@BooneBoys yup very true, I know exactly what you mean. I will have to look into how much it costs for one. What did you pay for yours?
My dad an I talked about building something similar to this years ago, he passed in 2006…treasure your time with your dad, 😊
I’m sorry to hear about your dad. I’m trying to get him in the boat with me as much as possible while I have him.
@@BooneBoys 😊👍
I can definitely see the advantage. Your boat is a lot heavier and bigger than mine. Launching & recovery, especially by yourself, I imagine is a bit of practiced controlled chaos. What I’m curious about is recovery. You got your trailer fully submerged and can drive up and keep your rig centered on the bunks. I gotta keep my trailer about 1/3-1/2 out of the water. Basically I hit the bunks, drive up as far as I can (within a foot of the front roller) then winch it the last foot or so. If I put the trailer deep enough to go all the way forward to the roller I can’t keep my boat centered, especially in these Oklahoma winds. It just drifts off to the side. Does your boat just have a super deep draft or what’s your secret on keeping it centered on the bunks when you’re that far down the ramp?
It’s finding the sweet spot where you can go all the way up while being a little on the bunks. Our trailer and boat is about 1-2” of the fender showing out of the water and we can go all the way up without rubbing the bunks too hard and not floating off.
what a great way to spend the day
Absolutely!
Yessir! Used to live out that way, lots of them over in that area.
Crazy ton of wildlife there!
@BooneBoys yessir, comanche County now has elk hunting season but about 15 years ago I owned some acreage south of the refuge west of cache and when they would do their prescribed fires, we would get covered up with elk out there.
Once every 5 years or so we will see a cow up by Clinton right off of I40. Can’t hardly imagine they passed through that open country.
@BooneBoys that's crazy, them fellas will travel some distance though. I was up in Clinton on Tuesday. Had to run over to southwest distributor to get an auger. Not a lot between here and there lol
@@Shea-D-Acres ha ha. No not much at all.
What lake are y’all at
Sooner lake in Oklahoma.
Wichita Mountains, looks like?
Exactly right. We had to visit Meers today.
That's a real pretty area!
You guys just keep catching them! Love watching your videos and glad to see your kids enjoying as much as you do. Are you throwing a 10’ net and do you know the weight? Perfect throws too!
It’s a 9’ 1.6lbs/ft 14.4lbs. I’ve liked it so far. Had it a few years. Appreciate you watching!
I see Laura ask about the drum. We eat them if they are big enough. I happen to have a thought about drum. We catch the same size drum here in SE Texas, but where are the bigger ones? Back in the late 70's my dad caught one on a silver spoon that he thought it was a huge Hybrid. But it was a 5lb-ish drum. The lake I fish has a water body record of 44lbs for Fresh Water Drum! So what is the story on the bigger drum?
That is a monster drum! We rarely catch them bigger than a few pounds. They’ve become so populous in our lakes out here that I believe they are hurting them. The only positive is that some lakes that have bad Shad population, the young drum are a good bait for the hybrid bass.
@BooneBoys Hybrids are such odd feeders. At least here they are. The guide we fished with when I started fishing our lake said if they are hitting bait (dead bait), they will not hit any lure you present to them. But if they are feeding on young drum, they might hit cut drum! Hybrids eat all kinds of weird stuff here. You know what I use with great success. I've heard people use live crayfish to catch them too! I find shells and body parts around spillways where people are catching Hybrids. Might try it next time we end up catching a small drum!
Thanks exactly what I need!
Glad it helped!
What brand of cast net are you throwing? I find alot of the shad swim out from under my cast net. I use livescope and watch them swim out before it gets to the bottom. Nice catches!
I think they will always swim out to some extent, but right now I’m using a humpback. I like it ok.
Glad you got some improvements to the bait tank on the way. For all the work it takes to net that much shad you you’d hate to see them all go like that. Awesome day of fishing all the same. Here’s to hoping the cool weather the next week or so makes the bite go wild! Have you been to Foss lately or is that more of a winter deadstick lake since you can’t catch shad there?
Funny you say Foss because I wanted to use this weekend to try it out. We will see if we get out there. I haven’t been out there during the summer in a while. I’ll probably bring bait if we do go.
I'm a 78 yr guy in OKC and I really ❤ you guys. I live I vicariously y'all.

Also, further below the dam you can use powerboat etc. My brother went again and caught over 80 trout further down from where we filmed our trip.
@@BooneBoys amen
Where in Oklahoma are you from, I’m from Woodward
@@dirtfarmer7472 Clinton area.
@@BooneBoys We’re close to 1 another The most important work a man can do is within the walls of his own home
Here’s a tip. Use those trotline clips to attach your upper hooks. If you get a really big fish, you want to remove those extra hooks instead of having them potentially pull through your hands while you fight the monster on the bottom. If you didn’t think about that when setting them out, don’t be shy about cutting those extra hooks. The last things you want is a big cat on one hook, the other hook in your hand, and then fall overboard.
Funny you mentioned clips. I’m actually thinking about redoing the jugs with clips but for a different reason. Mainly to make it faster to put out the jugs and cleaner to store without hooks.
So put enough string on to match the depth of the lake. Then tie the jug with all the extra string still on the float when you set it out. I don’t see a problem with this plan at all.
Waste here.
I hate this video.
