I pulled entire engine and trans together. It seemed easier this way.
Oh awesome! Did you make a video? Most people probably don’t have a cherry picker for that. But if they do that might be a great route
Turn the stupid music off
How hard was this to do seems intimidating to remove the transmission
@@StarksGarage go to my channel and I have the walkthrough video on it
Can this work in automatic 8th trans ?
Not quite sure sorry!
Thanks for showing this job done on the ground. I was hesitant not having lift.
Did you need to tilt the engine at all for the transmission to clear the frame member next to it? I was going to support my engine with a rigid stand instead of a jack, but I won't be able to tilt if I do that. Great video, thanks for posting.
@@tobyschwartzman4995 I don’t believe I had to tilt it. I don’t remember loosening an engine mounts during. That project
Anything special to removing the transmission?
I have a video on the transmission remova
Greetings this job does not required air box removal or fan clutch with shroud. Great video throughout. The bostech WP03302 is the best water pump for the cummins 6.7l, bulletproof design. I just installed on my 2012 yesterday 09/15/2024. Fins made of solid metal and none of that plastic harden material.
I agree! But it sure gives you a lot more room :). I was doing serpentine and a couple other things while I was in there so it made it a lot easier without the fan in there.
Have to be careful not to damage the housing/case. That's why i think most people avoid using a hammer/force. Idea is to use a small screw, smaller than seal width. Then screw this in and use pliers to pull the seal out.
By the way, I told my wife, have you seen this friend's wife? (So get ready)
I am a complete amateur, this will be my first time doing a job like this. Please could you share the tightening torques with me?
Thank you very much for your support, I appreciate it very much
Going to attempt to pull mine tomorrow to change out the flex plate. Im at 139k mile, with some weight loss mods. Is it worth doing a rebuild on the trans while i have it out so i dont have to do it again whenever that goes too?
It is kind of hard to say if you should or not. do you hot rod it or are you chill driver? If you do enjoy hot riding then definitely tearing it down and redoing some of the parts is worth it but if you just drive it normally a 68 can last a while. Mine had 300,000 on it and was still very drivable, I was just having pump issues when driving uphill for an extended period of time. If the transmission didn’t get too hot, it was totally fine. If it’s not broke, I wouldn’t try to fix it. I understand the flex plate concern. I upgraded mine to a billet one as well.
@diy dude Can you help me remove my transmission? What part of California are you in?
sorry I live in oregon now!
Removing the clutch is unnecessary I just did a water pump without even touching it
Nice vid. Got a donor car coming to me and it will be the guinea pig for my transmission swap. My car has bad input shaft bearings.
I'm about to tackle this same issue, SO glad I found your awsome video by far the best I've come across. Thank you!
Thanks dude.
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. Just got done with an automatic transmission rebuild on my 2009 civic, and im not a professional whatsoever. It was pretty nerve-racking but doable, it took me about a week for the rebuild. Bought a rebuild kit with all of the seals, o rings, and auto clutch plates for like 300 bucks on ebay. But I ended up having to drop the transmission a 2nd time to change the torque converter. Usually, when an automatic transmission goes bad, the torque converter goes bad with it, dont make my same mistake. The torque converter was $250, and my car is shifting like a dream now.
Well done! Way to get it done 🙌🏻 I feel you on that torque converter. I redid my truck tranny and when I put the “new” torque converter in it was actually bad :( I dropped the tranny 3 times trying to find the issue.
Why didn't you take the fan shroud out completely?
Probably could’ve? Been awhile since I did this job, let people know who read the comments if that’s something you would recommend and why. 👍🏻👍🏻
Im just about done the job however i cant get the shift linkage bolt out. Any suggestions ?
More penetrating oil 🤣 you can get it my man!
Yanked mine out of my 06 civic same day, awesome video!!!
Do you live near me? Can you help me? Lol
Ha! Where do you live?
It's also about the same for them to replace the camshaft and lifters. That's why I did that myself. Since my truck is at 250k. I'm thinking i'm going to do a rebuild on my transmission also.
That sounds like a big job. You do headstuds at the same time?
this is for the engine rear main seal correct ? on a 07 civic i have one that needs to be worked on.
Yes it is 👍🏻
Great video except for that opening that has the most loud and annoying music you could find.
Hahaha 😂 I guess it’s time to change it up… lol any recommendations? I haven’t made a new one in like 8 years :)
@@steveDIY anything without high-pitched screaming would be fine
Hey btw, i appreciate the attention to detail on which bolts need to be taken off and tips and tricks
You got it, glad it helped! Best wishes on your rebuild if you tackle it 🙌🏻
Dang that intro threw me back into 2014 what a flash back haha. I like it.
Hahaha it’s time for a change… I’ve had that for way too long long but to lazy to change it lol, I guess I probably don’t need it 😂
$5500 bucks? How much is a replacement Remanufactured Trans?
My local shop with non billet parts was 8k for a “heavy duty rebuild” that doesn’t include an upgraded valve body or torque converter. 10k on average I would say for a rebuilt reputable trans rebuild from Randy’s transmissions or WP diesel transmission.
Hard to build a 68 for under 6g if you want it to last for what truck is intended for.
Is this the same job as for one with a manual transmission??
This was a manual transmission, so yes, exactly the same
Hey man everything is good,,,BUT YOU NEED MORE SAFETY UNDER YOUR AXEL, FOR THIS JOB😊
My rear main seal started leaking so figured it’s a good time to replace the clutch but now I’m thinking more replace the car lol
Hahah it’s not that bad! Lol
I replaced my clutch and throw-out bearing. Turns out the noise was the input shaft bearing so replaced the transmission. Head's up.
Thanks for the info!
Yeaaa.. I’ll take my car to the shop, I would been lost already before even strapping the engine
Bigger job than I thought
Yea it’s a little in depth
How far do you have to tap in the pilot Bushing? Great video thank you
It’s been awhile but I believe it bottoms out in there
Appreciate the video, the hardest part for me was disconnecting the fuel lines and electrical plug by brail! If I could see it I couldn't reach it. Finally got it whipped though.
You have music over what I assume is supposed to be you saying important things?
Sorry, original music was copywriting, had to switch it and lost some audio
I'm about to start the process on the exact same car and I knew I was in the right place when I saw the EXACT same crescent tool kit thanks a bunch for the video
Haha I’ve had it for years! Works great still 🙌🏻
Very helpful
Fixing to tackle my first civic clutch how long roughly will it take me
Depends what tools you have a experience with wrenching on things. If you’re a beginner I’d take a weekend to do it. If your experienced you could bust it out in 6-8hours
Hey I have the same truck model and year but mines not diesel im still finding it hard to do
Amazing video, very helpful
Glad it helped! Great job for tackling the job yourself!
@@steveDIY clutch is done, tested it while car was in the air, everything worked, with one catch 😄, got steering rack out of place
@bikramsidhu4082 go to am alignment shop and they should be able to fix you up as long as it’s close enough to bring straight. If your steering wheel is way off then I would do the steering rack and try to get it as close as you can and let the alignment shop do the rest
@@steveDIY i was able to get it, actually it is very easy to do it from inside car drives side, I removed 10mm bolt from inside car drive side, took out the steering column , locked the steering wheel, eyeballed alignment of front tires to rear, then got the steering column back in and then got the bolt back in and then did the wheel alignment, everything went smoothly, thanks for great video
Ditch the music makes it hard to hear parts needed to do this job.
Yea I agree. Don’t have the original video or id edit it out.
@steveDIY most of the video was great. But The music definitely made it a struggle lol
@@steveDIY also thank for the video , new transmission is in and driving. Fair amount of finesse goes into this job. Job took a long time even with 2 of us who are generally mechanically inclined.
@theeasykaybreezy5347 congrats man! Yea it’s a tedious job! Great job saving some money 🙌🏻🙌🏻
@theeasykaybreezy5347 I’m about to drop and rebuild my transmission on my 2012 ram 2500…. Thing has a bunch of parts 😂
awesome vid! im stuck on the pilot bearing... 2 hours so far, what did you use to get yours out? looks like bread? not working for me :(
Yea I packed it full of bread. And found a socket that was the exact size of the inside diameter of the bearing and pounded it out. I had audio that instructed how to do it but the music was copyright and covered up the words sorry!
awesome! still this guide is awesome thanks alot @@steveDIY
Thank you your video is gonna help me a lot !!
You’re welcome 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video and as most comments here, thank you for helping the rest of us out! God bless you!!
You got it my man! My pleasure
Thanks for the recap at the end. I was a bit lost as you were taking it off, but the recap at the end really helped.
You got it! Glad it helped 👍🏻
Listen up everyone. Do not do what this guys doing it’s all unnecessary. Only thing you need to take out is the air box and that’s only so you can get the alternator out if you’re only changing the belt it’s big waste of time. It takes a whole 30-40 minutes max to change the alternator without doing all this extra crap. If you were only doing the belt it will take all of 5 minutes.
I was changing out the water pump at the same time, you are correct there is a simpler way to do it. Thanks for watching and contributing.
I guess is no excuse 😳 this can be done with the minimum tools, good work buddy
