How did you support the cladding on bottom ? Looks like timber with the cavity vent strip ? Great job btw 👍
The cladding is fixed to the battens using adhesive and fixing nails, the bottom strip is only temporary until the glue fully cures.
Guys, that looks amazing! Brad, the cut on the top of the door to fix to rake of the roof was genius.
Thanks John! So glad we could figure out a way to make it work.
What grade of timber was used for the joists? H3, H4, H5? Will there be a problem with the joists rotting if they become submerged in water after it rains? Or is it not a concern due to being under a verandah?
It's not a concern as this area is under the verandah and also under a large eave as well. 🥰
@@TheEberharts Thanks. I plan on doing a similar project but unfortunately it isn't on a sheltered area.
Ho, Is the wood structure anchored to the insulation panel or to the wall? Thanks
Hi, it's anchored directly to the wall with an insulation wrap in between.
Brad, step away from the woman with a door! 😅 You're absolutely right about how tedious painting is with all the steps to do it right. Especially the sanding because it's so boring. Same steps with painting furniture, which I've done. I love a dark blue! Great troubleshooting on the drawer fronts and corner cabinet door. Greetings from the other Melbourne.
🤣 that door was out to get Brad! Sanding is so boring but such an important step! Thank so much, we love the dark blue too! Thanks for tuning in!
@TheEberharts It reminded me of the comedy routine with a ladder where the person holding the ladder is holding it horizontally and he swings it around and the other person has to quickly duck or get hit by the ladder.
sounds like Brad and I 🤣🤣
edging detail and colour👌
Thank you! We love the colour too :)
Way too close to the fence
The tree should be moved a little away from the wall. ❤
You plant them that close to the wall/ fence when you espalier them. ❤️
I know its only small, but rebar or mesh would have made a difference if your temperatures fluctuate.
Glass fibre reinforced cement has worked really well for us and it's super strong 😊
put a wine or beer bottle in the top and it will 1) water your plants for longer 2) give you a visual water level, letting you know when to refill from far away, and 3) go longer in between waterings making it lower maintenance :)
I've seen people do that! How cool, great way to use bottles too 😊
good job
Thank you so much!
Looks great Sam. They’re so pretty. Perfect time for planting. I wouldn’t be able to help myself though, I’d be painting the palings in a dark grey and while I had the paintbrush out I’d be painting the side of your neighbours cream block shed in grey too.😅❤
It's so funny you say that because I have thought about painting it! It's just such a big job! Maybe one day!!
Very impressed Samantha. Wonder if I should show my missus how helpful you are with the renos… Could be a risky move. 😅😮
Thank you so much, it's been fun to learn. She may find it fun too 😊
This is exactly what I hope to do with my aging and very crooked concrete porch. I noticed that you had the lowest weatherboards removed. I was going to simply butt the edge of the decking against the weatherboard. would you recommend that I take off the lowest boards? I have recently had the house restumped after probably 100 years (!) and so the sides of the house are lower than the middle. I was thinking that i could manage the variance with the height of the joists - making them slightly taller than the middle. Any thoughts on the approach?
Hi 😊 that approach seems fairly reasonable! You can certainly adjust the overall heights to suit a particular low point, so long as it's very gradual. Taking the lower board off makes it easier to install the joist and last board to the home, much neater! I hope it works out well!
HAHA YES! I'm glad it helped. It's powering along in there guys. Excited to see some tiling!
Thank John, tip of the century! We're excited to get to the finishes too!
Sitting outside at the auto mechanics at 9:45 am in Melbourne, Florida, and it feels like 94 degrees (34.4 for you). Thanks for keeping me company. Fantastic job on the doors. And yes, those boxes do fit like a glove. Yep, the finishing details take as long as the building! (Not that I know from personal experience because I don't build anything. I just like watching others do it.)
It's freezing here! Send some warm weather this way 🤣 thanks for watching! We love to read your comments. P.s hope your car is fixed!
@TheEberharts I saw the sweater! You can have this heat! 🥵 Car was in just for an oil change and tire rotation. See you in the next episode.
Thanks. Have more info on design and materials?
We have a UA-cam video that has more info if you're interested :)
Why are you using MDF in a mud room? Moisture and MDF are not friends.
It will get fully primed and sealed - we'll let you know how it holds up.
I've really come to despise using acrylic paints on exterior timber, they just can not cope with seasonal expansion and will crack within a few years. And when they do, you're in for a right pain to strip it back and make a good job of it again. Microporous paints like Bedec MSP get a lot of love in the trades, or if you have the climate for it to cure you could even consider traditional linseed oil paints which are easily overcoatable for maintenance.
That's really interesting, thanks for sharing! I will be looking into this!
Awesome video, about to do the same. Did you anchor those wood joists into the concrete? Did you just use shams to get them to the level height?
Thanks! Yes the joists are directly fixed to the concrete slab with packers to level the area out. 😊
I don’t even own a home but I will do this one day lol. I have always been obsessed with these floors
Are they absolutely gorgeous! Definitely a bucket list home item for us too! ❤️
@@TheEberharts to be frank, i'm 40 and after working on my feet for most of my life, my body hates me lol. So I will for sure be hiring people to help. Did a full reno on a 100 year old house. Gutted it. Have never physically felt the same since. But sure you guys are taking care of your body!
@@tiffany.Elizabeth.thank you for the reminder, it's good to remember! It certainly takes a toll on your body!
Love that design! never considered FC sheeting for lining and creating the structure of the planter box, wondering how you ended up finishing the top of the planter?
Thanks so much! It's been 2 years and it's held up really well! We still haven't got around to finishing the top of the planter! We have a few ideas, we just need the time!
So good, I wish I had one in my house! So cozy ❤
❤️ so cozy! The best!
Tried way too hard 😂😂😂
Thanks babe 😘
Do you have to buy the herringbone engineered wood floor to do this, or can you just arrange the normal engineered floor planks in a herringbone pattern?? Having a hard time finding a Herrington product that matches the colour I’m after
Hi! Great question. Unfortunately not, a herringbone pattern engineered floorboard has a specific tongue and groove pattern at the end of each board.
Wow, Brad's work here is very impressive. 😎
He's a talented man! Lots of exciting projects coming up!
So much progress! I love the idea for having the dog bowls up off the floor out of the way. Brad, you may already know this or have your own way, but I use a free online calculator for breaking down sheets efficiently. It's called cutlistoptimizer, It factors in blade thickness and edge banding if you want.
You're a living legend John! Thank you, we'll look that up!
Gorgeous!
Thank you!❤️
So well done, especially with that sloped ceiling. Can’t wait for the next vid!
Thanks Heather! It came together well 🥰 can't wait for the next.
Love how the two of you have fun together. The tall cabinets fit together so well.
Sometimes too much fun 🤣
Nice job as always. Looks great
Thanks so much Mike!
The floor it’s beautiful wow!!! What color did you use for your walls?
Thank you so much. The creamy colour we use in called Baked Brie 🥰
Very keen to see part two of this. Ive got three big FCMs to go into a similar exposed beam ceiling.
Amazing! You're certainly on to a good thing here these fcm's are fantastic!
@@TheEberharts Can you give any details on how you did your flashing? I need to order some now and not too sure.
Looking great. Down you get any paint seeking, flying bugs down there at night? I had lots stuck in the paint the next day and paint runs from condensation over night. 😪
Thanks! No we didn't get any bugs at all! Probably too cold for them this time of year. Hard to pick the right weather for painting though, hopefully you get a dryer time to paint soon!
can't wait guys! it's going to be a great series.
Thank so much John! We can't wait to get stuck into this project!
This will be fun! Sounds beautiful and functional. Lol at the two of you standing in for the washer/dryer, sink, and bench. 😅
Haha thank you so much. We were having a lot of fun! I can't wait see it come together.
Great video once again guys. You are both so natural in front of the camera. What a beautiful mud room you’ll have. So well planned, I think you’ve thought of everything! Thanks for listing all the info in the description too. It really helps.😊
Thank you so much Heather! We're so excited to see it come together. Thanks for joining the adventure 😊
The wood is so much better looking than concrete so good decision to go with that. And that is beautiful wood. For the step down transition until you get the lights like you mentioned (although they might not help in the daylight) is to add a door mat there. Would trigger the eye that there's something different there. My sister has that problem inside her house where a porch addition was enclosed. I saw someone almost fall because he didn't realize it was a step down. She did add a small rug so now it's obvious.
Thank you, we love how it turned out! Such a good point about the lights during the day and love the idea about the rug, we'll have a think about that option. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
The kitchen is going to incredible. The skylights look like they have a coating or glaze to help keep the heat out while letting the light in. It looks like you're thinking about adding an arched top to the bi-fold doors.
Thank you, we hope it will turn out to be incredible! Yes the Velux skylights have UV protection. You nailed it with the bi-fold doors, we are redesigning to add arches! Keen eye!
My favourite renovating couple! Yesterday my builder son was deciding on timber for his front deck. Because of this video I suggested blackbutt. I could see from his expression he was wondering how on earth that came out of my mouth😂. (I think he was quietly impressed😂😂). He was lucky enough to find the perfect amount and good lengths at our local timber yard. We finished it about an hour ago. It looks amazing! Thanks for another informative video too.
Heather, that is amazing! So great that he found the perfect amount and is loving his deck! Thanks for watching we always love hearing from you!
Hi what did you use to replace the rotted out bearer? What timber size
It all depends on the size of the bearers in your home, avoid using any pine timber for the subfloor, ideally the best timber for strength and pest prevention is LVL, if your bearers look about the same size as the ones in this video, the closest size timber you’ll find is 90x45
It's best to use a similar species and size to the rest of the home, makes it easier to level out when replacing. Otherwise always consult a timber span table for loads and spaces between stumps. Typically you'll find old hardwood bearers on the 90x60mm mark, or laminate 2x90x35 kdhw together to make 90x70's.
We’re doing a big extension and used the same stuff - so happy with how it looks! Those 3600 sheets were heavy!
They are SO heavy! We are so happy too! Glad you're loving your external cladding! Good luck with the Reno's!

Hi Guys, we are using Axon on two sides of a metal clad garage, due to needing to replace damaged metal sheets. We are very happy with the results thus far, and surfing the net I discovered your video on you painting the Axon. Well done, it looks awesome and I will be using your advice about method and tools. Cheers Spear
Hi Spear! Great to hear you're happy with your Axon cladding so far and good luck with the paint!

"Boxy things." Love it and the face in the opening! Pretty cool to have all the light, and the tree will provide shade from the heat.
🙊🥰 I love the tree! So great to have shade and the beautiful greenery!
