Hi guys, this is part 2 of this series about soundproofing my noisy shop vac. I´m building a soundproof enclosure for a good but noisy shop vac, including a soundproofed ventilation. The concepts of isolating and dampening noise may be applied to other use cases too, e. g. compressors, generators, computers, even drums and musical instruments, if you build the enclosure bigger (and add a door and a window).

      @@tims.2832 Thanks, I will check them out! I was also wondering how strong those extrusions are to accidental damage. For example, if you have one of your clamps on them, and accidentally bump into that, wouldn't that slightly deform the profile in a place where the clamp is being held? I can imagine replacing that would be pretty annoying considering how everything is connected together.

    • @tims.2832
      @tims.2832 29 днів тому

      @@4lpina yeah, changing profils would be quite some work. But the front profile is the heavy duty version of those profils, I don´t think that I get that damaged. The long clamps may have more leverage than the shorter ones, but on the other hand they flex more if I would hit them. I think, I would rather bend the clamps than the heavy duty profile if I happen to run into one of those.

      @@tims.2832 Understood! Your implementation really inspired me, so I will be making very similar setup as far as extrusion and clamps go. One last question, regarding the main clamps at 14:40, what are the thickness of aluminum pieces you're attaching to each other? So the thicker side one and the thin top piece. At first glance they look around 3cm and 0,5cm, but I would like to know for sure, especially for upper thin piece, since I don't want to make it too thick or too thin. Thanks a lot.

      Hi, danke. Die Kosten konnte ich noch nicht ausrechnen, da ich Material aus meinem letzten Projekt übrig hatte, Profile, Verbinder, Schrauben, Nutensteine. Letztlich hängt es auch davon ab, aus welchem Holz man die Tischplatte und die Schubladen baut. ich habe jetzt relativ teures 18 mm multiplex Birke genommen, viele bauen Werkstatt Schubladen aber natürlich auch aus OSB - Platten, was deutlich günstiger ist.

      @@satsadhu alles klar, viel Glück mit dem Projekt. Ich würde noch sagen, stimm das möglichst gut mit deiner Frau ab, wegen des Haussegens. Die Optik von Montageprofilen und multiplex ist natürlich schon sehr technisch, etwas weniger wohnlich. Für eine Küche würde ich außerdem überlegen, unterFlurauszüge zu verwenden, das sieht schicker aus. Man sieht dann die Führungen nicht, wenn die Schubladen offen sind. Heiko Rech hat zu Schubladen und Führungen ein paar gute Videos gemacht. Die unterflurAuszüge sind natürlich etwas teurer, insbesondere die Markenprodukte von Blum, Hettich und so weiter. es gibt wohl auch einen italienischen, neuen Hersteller, Fa Salice, Modell Progressa. Das könnte etwas günstiger sein, als Blum und Hettich.

      @@tims.2832 Alu-Profile bekommt man auch farbig und z.B. nur an 3 Seiten mit einer Nut oder auch halbrund, was die Optik durchaus beeinflusst. Und Multiplex kann man mit diversen farblichen Beschichtungen kaufen. Für unseren Haussegen sehe ich da keine Probleme auf mich zukommen. Was mich an so einem Projekt besonders interessiert ist die Flexibilität, die mit solchen Materialien daherkommt. Auch Umzüge sind sicherlich einfacher zu bewältigen. Ist natürlich auch eine Frage, wie man es umsetzt.

    • @tims.2832
      @tims.2832 2 місяці тому

      Good question. And I didn´t even mention in my video, that my floor not only has a slope, but within this slope it is again pretty uneven. I dealt with it by using the 8 leveling feet under the aluminum frame. Then I used a quality water level to adjust the hight of the frame left to right, back to front. Finally I put the table tops on it. Since the tabletops are plywood, its pretty much "dead" wood, that doesn´t move any more due to humidity. And the aluminum is even more immune to humidity, it doesn´t care if its wet summer or dry winter. For woodworking, thats good enough in my book. For metal guys, engineers on the other hand, there is no such thing as "completely flat", only tolerance classes, grades of tolerances. They would consider it a mistake, to spend time and money to achieve a tolerance class, that the product or use case does not require.

    I love the drawer fronts. Going to have to copy some version of that. I have a few movable tool tables made with 80/20 as well. Assemble table that is always square and flat and light enough to move around, chop saw station I use the extrusion profile to add out feeds to when needed, and a shopsmith stand to replace the silly legs and under tool storage ideas that exist. The aluminum was expensive, but these stands will last longer then the wood ones and I have already deconstructed and repurposed them, which would have been all trash using plywood box construction. I also like all the places I can add on jigs and extensions when needed using scrap and little thought. I also just love the look to be honest. I am not a “real” wood worker. All my projects involve wood and metal, so this just matches the ethos better.

    Glad to see there is a part three. Certainly a very inexpensive way to soundproof a noisy shop vac. My obvious question - one I'm sure will be answered in the following video - is about heat. We all want the quiet life, but not if our trusty shop vac ends up melting in the process. Oh, thank you so much for sharing.

      This vac has 2k watts, so a lot of energy. On average, I have the vac running for 5-10 minutes, rarely longer than 15 minutes. The exhaust air is warm, but not hot. It seems to me that it is designed to be cooled by the air that is going through the vac, less the surface of the bin. But I would recommend to alway be around when it is running. And I have a smoke detector on the ceiling above the shop vac.
