    The common theme on all of these plans is a dado or rabbit slot. Most of us do not have a table saw or router.

    • @woodenshoeshomestead2884
      @woodenshoeshomestead2884 7 місяців тому

      Yes, but one needs to pick a tool for making a video. Another option for using a router is to use a circular saw to cut the outer edges and use a chisel to cut out the middle part. And instead of a table saw, a regular hand saw will do the trick too. Think in solutions, not issues, and try to figure out how to get it done with the tools you have laying around! Don't be afraid to be creative!

    • @woodenshoeshomestead2884
      @woodenshoeshomestead2884 9 місяців тому

      Microgreens are not meant to be planted anywhere afterwards. These are for eating after 10-14 days, hence the name Microgreens or also called Sprouts. For letting these plants grow taller, they are too close to each other so that might result in weak plants and a lot of competition.

    Hi I loved your video, how did you calculate yield?

    • @woodenshoeshomestead2884
      @woodenshoeshomestead2884 Рік тому

      That is actually quite simple! You weigh the amount of seed you put in at the start, and after harvest you weigh the harvested amount. With that you can easily calculate the yield per grams of seed sown, just by doing the next sum: grams yield/grams of seed sown= yield per grams of seed sown. I hope this was clear enough! If not, don't hesitate to ask :)

    • @woodenshoeshomestead2884
      @woodenshoeshomestead2884 11 місяців тому

      Soil was never weighed. It is never a good idea to do so since it is very likely to vary with the amount of moisture the soil is holding. The seed was weighed in the salt shaker before and after spreading, so that the difference is the amount of seed used. The yield weight was calculated by weighing a bowl before harvesting, then started harvesting and after harvest weigh the bowl again, now filled with microgreens.

    I am growing upland cress on paper towel now. I have it inside a reptile incubator with a black cloth over the plastic container. It's slow growing but getting there. I see a few stalks that are taller than the rest ; maybe about half an inch tall. Originally I just had it on my countertop but I think maybe the ambient temperature wasn't quite warm enough. Putting it inside the incubator definitely helped speed up the growth.

    • @woodenshoeshomestead2884
      @woodenshoeshomestead2884 Рік тому

      Yes, adding warmth will helping speeding up the growth. The room where we are growing our microgreens is not that hot actually, around 18 degrees C. With warmer temperatures, make sure you keep an eye on the growing speed. When the plants grow too fast, they will not get that strong and therefore tend to fall over more quickly. Anyhow, happy growing!

    I have grown several other microgreens with ease (and my process is the same as yours you have shown here), and though everything starts out great, the alfalfa starts dying at about day 7. I've tried more and less water (1/2 cup per tray twice a day or 1 cup per tray twice per day). The only difference between your method and mine is that my inner tray is full mesh versus the holes. I've tried potting soil as well a coir. Do you have any suggestions for me or thoughts as to why my alfalfa is failing? I have no trouble growing kale, pea shoots, broccoli, radish, sunflower.

      @@woodenshoeshomestead2884 Bottom watering only once they are under light. I've had an occasional tray with mold, but it doesn't seem to effect the collapse because the non-mold trays collapse at the same rate. The only advice I could find so far was to remove the soil and try hydroponic. I'm currently trying a tray with the fiber mats, and then another tray with just silicone sheets.

    • @woodenshoeshomestead2884
      @woodenshoeshomestead2884 3 роки тому

      I'm sorry for the late response. I somehow never got your message. After exposing to the light, I usually also keep misting the top tray. For some trays it just helps to get them through especially the first days. Regarding mold, make sure your ventilation is right. With correct ventilation, you should hardly ever get mold in your exposed trays. Trays that are still covered, until the black out phase, might get moldy because the ventilation won't reach the plants. Please let us know how it worked out! We are also curious to your fibre mat and silicone sheet results.

    I just tried a premade version of this yesterday XD. Its lovely - the combination of the spiced biscuit (or cake in this case?) and the sweet, soft almond paste is such a good combination (I like almonds and almond-flavoured things in general). I'm a big biscuit and cake lover and I'm enjoying all the Dutch foods I have tried so far (well, except Kwarktaart - I like kwark, but I'm sensitive to textures due to mental conditions). Stamppot is one of my favourites due to it being similar to the Scottish dish 'stovies' (I come from Scotland). One bit of advice - you should say 'beaten egg', rather than a 'scrambled' egg. In English, those are two different things. What part of the Netherlands are you from, by the way? I live in Leiden with my (native Dutch) boyfriend. Dank je voor het recept :).
