    Moon Jo saw Jeong Woo in him. Jeong Woo did have suppressed murderous intent in him as shown in his military past and his interest of novels (reading and writing). Jeong Woo was the perfect subject of art to the dentist Moon Jo as in the end Jeong Woo became Moon Jo. Yes, Moon Jo was responsible for all the killings in the beginning and eventually when he made Jeong Woo execute all 4 amateur murders in the end, that's when Jeong Woo felt the power of his thirst to kill as it unlocked the supressed character in him. Jeong Woo had a very thin line between the character inside: of a killer, notorious and outside of a naive supple guy. Moon Jo broke that line of self control when he let Jeong Woo take control of killing the 4 people in the end. Moon Jo although now physically dead, his presence lives in Jeong Woo that's why even after having the neck sliced by him, Moon Jo said, "You and I will be together forever." Even at the ending scene when Jeong Woo was in ambulence, Moon Jo smiles and walks away and Jeong Woo's expression showed he was no longer scared of him. So in all, this was a constant battle of Jeong Woo within himself: inside and out, of a repressed killer and a self controlled man fueled by Moo Jo's hideous character and intention of becoming one with Jeong Woo, making him same as him; insane and crazy, one who loves to torture and kill which he eventually succeeds.

    I think an undderrated good stalking example from a kdrama is suspicious partner where the female lead briefly gollows around the male lead because she likes him and he helped her out. But she meets a stalker during a case and reevaluates her behaviour and grows.

    I just came from "How Strangers From Hell Gaslights Its Audience" and I am so happy to have discovered your channel!! The way you genuinely explore these stories from different perspectives and angles and their relationship with the audience is like a movie in of itself! After watching this particular video about toxic couples, it made me think about the main lead couple from Oh My Ladylord! I know it's generally viewed in a good light but I found it to have one of the - if not the most, toxic couple in the Kdramas I've watched. It seems that it's probably just me who feels this way, though😂. Anyways, on to the next video!

      Thank you, I am glad this channel found you! I think a lot more k-drama relationship are more toxic than we remember. That's why I can't watch shows that are older than 10 years for the first time now - if you don't have the nostalgia goggles it is really surprising how toxic a lot of the older stuff is, but without the plot acknowledging that this is a bad relationship.

      Yes, this show is based on the webtoon with the same name, but the webtoon plot is not as complex as the show - they added a ton of new characters, symbolism and layers to the story. I think it works well for these different mediums. Unfortunately reading the webtoon doesn't answer any of the questions about the stuff that was added to the series.

    Now I do want to know who write the script and the director of these series. Have they sticked to this progressive approach? While one would argue the way the actor portraits the roles basically represent how the actor is in real life. I'm still skeptical. That said I have heard far and wide that Cha Ean Woo is a very nice person in real life.

    • @kdramaresearchinstitute
      @kdramaresearchinstitute 20 днів тому

      My argument is that actors choose roles that speak to them, and the themes in the shows Eun Woo picks mirror a lot of his real life. He talked in interviews and on various TV shows about his life and it seems like for a while he was really bothered by the fact people only see him as eye candy but don't take him seriously, even though he is smart. During that time he starred in my ID is Gangnam beauty and True Beauty, both shows that tackle the topic of lookism and pretty privilege in Korea. The screenwriters just wrote a k-drama that was pitched to different actors. And actors also get a lot of different types of scripts to pick from. And Eun Woo consistently picks scripts with feminist themes and complex female characters.

    I mean Bora leaving and looking upset as soon as Jihyo calls out Siguk's name in ep8 (after trying to stop her from even meeting him again, pretending like she is concerned about it being a trap) is about as obvious as it gets. Then also, the rumours about them being a couple in middle school, pretending to be a couple to investigate Siguk's apartment, and spending 11 hours in a closet. Like come on.

    • @kdramaresearchinstitute

    The show ends with Jihyo asking Bora to live together, and there's people not getting they are in love since they were kids? The whole thing about her struggles with her life were a metaphor for not accepting her sexuality. I love the performance of the main two actors, they did a pretty good job giving hints of sexual tension all the time but keeping them nuanced, I specially love Jeon Yeo-Been, she is an amazing actress.

    13:01 I wont agree with this line since we all know that moon jo already meet jongwoo and his friends which clearly tells that he is real and not a fantasy of Jongwoo. After this drama i was unclear about moonjo's death was he really dead or was he faking it so that he and jongwoo would be able to kill people like "crime partners" In webtoon nothing is clear since there was no second villain at all the man shown in first episode before moonjo was shown was the one who was the actual villain and not only that but in webtoon there was not a thing called his "past memories" which was kind of weird since aren't that the main thing which came up in jongwoo's mind when he felt uneasy or was druged if we let his dreams slid then it makes more sense that his neighbors were the one that made him like that. There was one scene in which he talk that "it aint the place but the people around me" He knew that the people around hin affected him in a bad way but still he didn't take any action. But if we really think that jongwoo was crazy and he didn't know that then why was he not suspected by the police. It also have one reason because the police never cared as we know that the only police who was into that case was the policewoman and other police officers were just chilling around and never taking action that would make more sense. For me i think jungwoo was made crazy because of the uneasy atmosphere. If he really was the actual killer then why would he kill his friend who have nothing to do with him rather than staying in the same neighborhood? That doesn't make sense. Its clear he was nit that murder from start but was made in the end, yes he killed everyone in that building but dont you think its weird that he was shown killing moonjo but his body was nver shown. The theory I have after reading a comment is that moonjo manipulated jungwoo to kill everyone in the building dont know if that includes him too but it was sure that jungwoo can nver defeat moonjo alone he is way more powerful than him. I think after he kill everyone he went where moonjo was to kill him or thats what we thought but when he came there we see that moonjo tells him you killed everyone and that where we are showen that the blade or whatever was in his hand fall doesn't that means he never killed moonjo in first place? Because moonjo have a really good reflexes if he wanted he would have killed jungwoo the time his blade falls down, so basically what im trying to say is in the end jungwoo went crazy and he really become moonjo's masterpiece and with the help of moonjo they both were able to get out of that building without being suspicious about he police. Since he was shown in the last scene. Too long: Basically moonjo made jungwoo go crazy and manipulated him and in the end they both were not suspected for anything and they become crime partners thats it

  • @Vivi-mp9nn
    @Vivi-mp9nn 3 місяці тому

    I feel like he was so paranoid but he never questioned the drinks before his friend drank them and was sleepy. So i think that might have actually happened. I think it‘s true that the neighbors were killers and i think he killed them at the end but we def cannot trust him. One thing that i‘m unsure about is monjoo. The show clearly hints at that the protagonist is monjoo but then the first neighbor victim said it wasn’t him. But also they didn’t show pics of the other killer neighbor. Also they hint at moonjoo being alive but they must have found a body? We only see him die in one version of events. Anyways i think they are different people and the protagonist went crazy but is now „forever connected“ with monjoo and will probably continue being a serial killer. I think it wasn’t just a story for his novel, i think the alcohol, the being drugged, the nightmares together just made him never know reality. But i wonder what really happened with the guy that moved in after the protagonist? If the protagonist would have been the killer his death would have made no sense i think.

  • @kilobiten
    @kilobiten 3 місяці тому

    i believe the main character was crazy way before, back in his army days a story was roughly told that two were fighting and jungwoo came in to break it up, hurting someone bad in the process, as he's sitting away from everyone, he looks down at his bloody hand and smiles, saying he regrets not killing the dude. so before he got to the studio, all this happened because of his already murder hungry mind. as for the way it was narrated, jungwoo is a very unreliable narrator, the whole time we thought he was innocent but when the gangster got to the hospital to point out the victim, he pointed at jungwoo's picture.. which really tripped the audience out.. the gangster was wayyy early in the story, the first disappearance not including the foreigner, so jungwoo was killing since the beginning BUT DOES ANY1 HAVE ANY THEORIES ABOUT THE FOREIGNER we never even got to know what happened

  • @Lvulolo
    @Lvulolo 3 місяці тому

    In my opinion, I think that after hearing jongwoos novel moonjo tries to make it comes true so he can try get jongwoo to loose his mind. At some points I think moonjo might’ve gone in his room to read his novel to try make the ideas happen to follow the storyline. When jongwoo gets aggressive that’s him slowly loosing his mind possibly due to his neighbours or due to the fact all the events in his novel are coming true, he’s getting creeped out and crying. Moonjo saying jongwoo is his ‘best work of art he created’ at the end showed he succeeded in making him go crazy. Also at the end maybe jongwoo killing everyone else quickly is all himself and not the novel because he has realised everything from his novel is coming true and he wants to confuse whoever is making the events happen by doing it quickly. Seokyoon might be someone moonjo put into jonwoos mind to make his insanity come out more slowly almost to torture him, that’s why we never really saw seokyoon interact with anyone else except from moonjo and jongwoo. Moonjo also tells jongwoo to tell him everything (something along the lines of that) and to never keep secrets from him maybe this is him trying to get more information to make him live out the novel he’s writing. I don’t really know if this makes sense I’m writing this whilst I’m sick and I watched this ages ago so say if I need to explain anything again 😭

    One of my biggest pet peeves about the traditional K-drama format is the 16-episode formula. More often than it should be, in order to comply with this which I consider to be unnecessary and absolutely arbitrary formula, many K dramas just drag on and on and on, adding unnecessary details and deliberately slowing down the pace of the progression of the main storyline. So a lot of them started off really strong, but because of their stubborn adhesion to this ridiculous formula, they become painfully sluggish in the middle, hence losing their attention grab on audience.

    • @kdramaresearchinstitute
      @kdramaresearchinstitute 3 місяці тому

      Yeah same! A lot of show would be so much better if they were just 10 or twelve episodes, but they just drag on and start repeating plot lines or adding unnecessary conflict...

    • @BoredOligarch
      @BoredOligarch 13 днів тому

      I've noticed lately that many shows are breaking with the 16-episode format. Many shows are doing 8, 10, 12 or even 14 episodes (although 14 is somewhat rare). At first I didn't like it, but then I realized that if a story can be tightly told in fewer episodes that its better because, like you said, there tends to be a bit of unnecessary filler or side stories with some 16 episode shows. I think this trend for a greater variety of show lengths is going to continue and I like it!

    I don't really understand what's the deal with Kang seok (the new neighbor who asked for chager) he asked for a chager from Joon-u but didn't actually need it. at first I thought he's a cop in disguise then I thought he's also in cahoots with the residents. he can't be imagination of Joon-u because he did a rap in the park and joon-u wouldn't be able to do so. also I think all the characters actually exist and none of them are imagination. it's just that Moon jo left a deep scar in Joon-u's mind. it's only the end that looks weird the scene where Joon-u is choking himself and asking to spare his life. we don't know whether it was before he offed Moonjo or after he offed Moonjo. ms. um also exist at she was mentioned by police many times. Moonjo exist because Joon-u cannot be a dentist, police officer also exist as she is seen with her family too. btw the little plot twist here and there were also kinda off unique like the twins being twins, officer Jeon wha's father not being actual chief detective but a TV show actor.

    Wow... this is one of my fav kdrama but it never occurred to me that it could all be just his psychosis. I'm now believe more that he could have an identity disorder. And the clue is infront of you. Literally. Look at his laptop wallpaper background.

    Main actor seems experiencing psychosis, and doing delusions and hallucinations like meeting the dentist.... All neighbors shows shady illegal stuff thats why its triggered him...

    Interesting perspective but this just isnt the case, although we see the gradual demise of Jong Woo and he does kill 4 people at the end he was not killin from the beginning, it was Moon Jo.

    I haven't watched Born Again and i won't (despise the fact i like both male actors) bc i'm so sick of this "he's misundertood, i can fix him" trope for female leads .. Like, what's wrong with the writers?? Do the Kr public really enjoy stalking stories that much? I don't get it.

      It is also not a well-written show in general, so you are not missing a lot. Really a waste of all the actors' talent! I think the "I can fix him" trope (and the romantic stalking trope) are a fantasy, a way to scratch that "what if the bad boy was into me and I am different and special" itch... I just wish these shows would find a way to scratch that itch and still let the audience know that this is a horrible idea in real life!
