This channel is for videos I think may be interesting to fans of Film Noir.
There are playlists for all sets of videos, usually in aired order but noted in the description in any case.
If there is any objection by TCM, UA-cam, Eddie or any of the copyright holders, I will immediately close down the channel. The point of this channel is to increase Film Noir appreciation. It's not and never will be about profit, especially not profit from other people's work.
Thanks and enjoy!

Poignant film One of two films I watched with my beloved father before his passing in August 1988
Not watched PITFALL but it sounds like the poor man’s DOUBLE INDEMNITY
Oh my god! at 1:39 it says Chinatown is from 1971. It is from 1974 and is Eddie's favourite (or 2nd favourite) film. How could a mistake like that happen?
People make mistakes?
Thank you for posting these!
It's my pleasure!
"What do those look like - grapefruit?" Luv that line
I've never heard Gigi pronounced that way before. Is that the way she preferred?
Another Eddie Muller classic. Someone needs to compile all of Eddie's lead-ins and put together our own Ultimate Film Noir starring the indomitable Eddie Muller. I'd pay for that.
Huh? All the intros & outros are right here on this channel. Every single one for Noir Alley, and almost all for Summer of Darkness in 2015. And a few miscellany as well.

@@thetorchyblameseries8100 No sweat! I've lost count how many times I've made an incorrect statement. I mean, in the past day!
Great film
Definitely
He’s right raft blew ass and so did his movies
I'm so glad to see Eddie call out George Raft as a _terrible_ actor. I was going to comment here about what a mystery it is that he ever had a career in movies, but maybe Eddie's reference to Raft's friends in the underworld "who you did _not_ want to cross" is the answer to that mystery.
@@KarlBunker Raft filled a niche. And one does have to be fairly tough to survive in Hollywood, even with advantage. Maybe George knew too much about directors' & producers' private lives?!
@@ameryek.9607 Phooey. To me, he was an actor who could *not* act. Is a carpenter who doesn't know one end of a hammer from the other "filling a niche"?
@@KarlBunker I think of Raft as a legitimate actor (and a very good dancer) who had a very limited range. It's not hard to see the difference between a Raft performance and that of a truly bad actor. It's just that the truly bad actors aren't likely to work in the same films as Raft, so it requires a little effort.
@@NoirFan77 Phooey. I've seen truly bad actors in high-school stage productions. And most of those kids were better than Raft.
@@KarlBunker 'Phooey'? That's what you've got?
I am in the shadows Eddie. Mayo was stunningly beautiful. I have to watch this video again. I like tough guys and beautiful dames.
@@roderickcampbell2105 Or tough dames & beautiful guys! 😸
@@ameryek.9607 Yes, that could work alright. I really liked Bogart, Burt Lancaster. and other tough, but good looking, hard men. Tough dames are always welcome. I married one. Tiny but nasty.
Thanks for posting. This film is actually on YT & for "free, gratis, & no charge!", as they used to say. Watch out for those shadows, Noir friends.
Thanks for the tip to your fellow noiristas.
@@NoirFan77 What happens when a noirista marries a barista? 🤔
@@ameryek.9607 Barnoirista? Noirbarista?
@@ameryek.9607 Oh, no. Someone is more obsessed with words than I am. That did combination not occur to me. It is quite brilliant and I admire it. I will send to family and friends.
A cup of dark coffee, silly! ☕😜
This sounds really good! I will give it a try, though will generally skip anything w G Raft in it bc boring, unless other benefits. Henry Morgan & R Burr, ok, it's Noir! Biblical noir- wonder how they did that? Just the few clips shown by Eddie look very atmospheric. 🌜
Raft is not a favorite actor of mine. But he did a decent job in the terrific 'They Drive By Night (1940)'.
@@NoirFan77 The one with Bogart as his brother? Bogie did most of the emoting work on that. I can see HB really making more of an effort in his acting. 😉
@@ameryek.9607 Yes, Raft & Bogie were truck-driving brothers. Really good film. IMHO Bogart was already an excellent actor, and certainly had paid his dues, by the time this film was shot.
👴🏻🥃 HI ED YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT THE MOVIES ARE BETTER THAN THE MOVIES THEM SELVES.
Found it lost steam midway. Its more a drama than a film noir in my opinion...
Rains' character is an early example of a homosexual character hiding in plain sight. He's an expression of a wickedly bitter homosexual men unable to create anything he really wants who turns to wrecking the lives of others in response. He's invested all of his emotions and effort into turning himself into a destructive machine. His viciousness is meant to morally justify his murder. Men who had sexual desires for other men would have deeply identified with Rains' character as a representation of their emotional lives.
Love Bette and Paul!! Love this movie so much! Paul is so beautiful!!❤❤
wow.. I am British, and never heard of this movie
Intros like this are what make Eddie such a great host. Hughes does does deserve some kudos as a producer of films like Scarface.
Violent Saturday? Oh hell yes!
Thanks for posting! 🎉 Hollywood was big on "I Married a ____" titles. "I Married a Witch", "I Married a Nazi', & so forth. Eye-catching phrase, yes? There was "I Married an Angel", "I Married a Monster from Outer Space" (1958). At least he wasn't a Commie!
'I Married a Communist (1950)' one of my favorite titles from the era.
@@NoirFan77Those "I Married an X" titles would make a glorious mash-up. "I Married a Communist Monster from Outer Space" ! 🌌
I really appreciate Eddie's historical sketch of the time. Of course, it wasn't illegal to be a communist or even to join the Communist Party. Lots of FBI agents did it! 😅
4:02 Funny, I just watched Red Light a few days ago-I even commented about it on your Noir Alley video you uploaded a few years ago. George Raft is one of my favorite noir actors, and Red Light is fantastic. Eddie doesn't seem to think Raft is a very emotive actor, and maybe he's got something there. Raft had to grow on me a bit, but I now find him a very enjoyable actor to watch, and he's made some excellent noir contributions like Nocturne, A Dangerous Profession, Race Street, Intrigue, and so many others. Much obliged for the uploads. I'm going to pass on Woman on Pier 13 for now. I've got a few Noir Alley backlogged features to get to. It's nice to know when I'm ready, I can come back to your channel and bookend my viewing experience with your convenient intro and outro uploads. Keep doing what you're doing!
@@BickBenedict1 what noir alley backlogged features you have to get to watch???...
There have been a number of features lately that I haven't been able to see. This one, for one. And the film Tomorrow is Another Day. Also, the Mitchum movie he did recently entitled The Locket. I usually like to keep up with Noir Alley, but I have been falling behind lately. I don't have TCM, but even if I did, watching films on other people's schedules just doesn't work for me. I prefer to just watch something when I'm ready to watch it. For those reasons, I like to digitally rent the films he has on Noir Alley, or watch them on UA-cam if they're unavailable (I prefer renting because it usually has the subtitles). But in a lot of cases, the films aren't on UA-cam or are unavailable to rent. So I will try to pick up the DVD or Blu Ray-most importantly, for the subtitles. I can't watch a movie unless I can read the dialogue at the same time. It's not always easy to hear what is being said on screen, despite the fact that I wear headphones. I can hear it; I'm not hard of hearing, but I want to know what exactly is being said. In a lot of cases, subtitles aren't available on DVDs. On Blu Ray, I found that they're available about 95% of the time. And more care is usually put in to the process as far as picture quality. So that's usually how me and this program kind of fight each other to watch.
Eddie Muller - one of America's treasures.
The locket became influential and became a common use in noir and neo noir films like recently with challengers..
Flashbacks still goes on in neo noir like gone girl and recently with challengers as with well many other neo noir films that have flashbacks that you could name in this comment section..
Great noir film!! the best with a great cast
I'm glad that noir alley showed call Northside 777.. great noir film very different and not your typical noir film where it's based on a true story and in noir its usually Always a police detective or a federal officer/special agent who is a fbi or treasury agent as well the private eye solves the case but in in this one is where the journalist is the private eye detective who's sloving this case.. so great noir film which happened in real life..
This was bad timing to air this episode of noir alley of what just happened in pennsylvania.. but the film was okay.. call northside 777 was better than woman on pier 13 but it was a alright film.. but just bad timing..
Nothing ‘bad timing’ about it. Just - bad.
@@mirror9553 you mean kinda laughable but to me it was kinda bad timing of what happened saturday hours before this film was schedule to air but it was aired because it was too late too change the date but it was really bad timing as a whole..
@@mirror9553 that's okay..
Fantastic. What a wonderful story teller Eddies is. And a man with deep convictions. Noir and politics certainly intersect. I wonder if the naysayers read Chandler or Hammett. If Eddies approves, that's good enough for me.
James ellroy and gerald petievich would disagree.
An above average noir.
Don't care for Armored Car Robbery - no nuances! Is the robbery possible? 😮 Eddie M's intros information & entertaining, as usual.
Thanks for posting, anyway.
You bet
Also, take note of Barney Martin (aka Morty Seinfeld) in the fender bender scene. His voice is more distinct than the brief image the camera captures.
I love the presenter. He reminds me of his gifted predecessor Robert Osborne.
It's simply a classic on all levels. Nuff said.
I love this picture. Have you seen A Dangerous Profession with George Raft? That and Nocturne are my favorite Raft films.
Haven't seen A Dangerous Profession yet, but thanks, it's now on my watch list.
Fantastic tie. Muller's always on point.
What's especially ironic is that Raymond Burr was also always cast as a sadistic mobster until Perry Mason transformed his image as well.
I never trusted Raymond Burr somehow.🤔
@@ameryek.9607 Even as good-guy Perry Mason, he looked menacing.
This Wrigley Field was used for the old TV show Home Run Derby. I used to wonder how many times that house down the left field line got hit by baseballs.
The Angels used the Wrigley Field in this movie as their home for their first season in 1961.
I truly admire the efficiency of this picture, which wastes no time at all getting going. Forget Drive-In movies, this is a Drive-Thru movie. But it's one of the best of its kind, that's for sure.
Charles Mcgraw slipped in the shower and fell through the glass door.😱
I love this movie.. one of my favourites noirs of all time... Love Charles McCraw...
he surely was unforgettable in Lupino's excellent little open air noir The Hitch-Hiker
In case you're thinking of watching this film, do it! A noir with the depth of a good novel. Eddie is quite right that Kent Smith's character is at least as much the protagonist as Ann Sheridan's but the success of Mildred Pierce no doubt influenced the naming of this film and the Joan Crawford film Daisy Kenyon of the same year. In fact, watch all three if you haven't seen them. Warners was on a roll.
1953 -- I would've been 5 yrs.old. Mama and Daddy took me with them to see this thing at the beloved Wilshire Theater in Fullerton CA. Thanks a lot parents! And you bet I remember it.
Thanks for posting!!
The last time REPEAT PERFORMANCE (1947) was seen on television was in 1988 on Nickelodeon’s Nick At Nite, when that channel was still showing old movies. I’m glad that classic was found and recovered.
Nice suit Ed
Bill Gray was an annoying, high strung and irresponsible kid in this movie.
