I've closed my jewellery business. Now what?

That's it folks! Megan Collins Jewellery is now closed forever. What a decision, but it really is freeing knowing that I can now really focus on something new and something that I have a lot of passion for! (Curious, does anyone even read what I write here? Let me know in the comments) Link to find out more about the retreats in Bali: www.megancollins.co/retreats

After 10 incredible years, I've made the difficult decision to close down Megan Colins Jewellery. This journey has been nothing short of amazing! In this video, I share the personal reasons behind this decision and reflect on the experiences that have shaped my journey. It wasn't an easy choice, but it's one that feels right as I move towards new adventures. To mark the end of this chapter, I'm...

Every business faces challenges, but it’s how we respond to them that defines our path forward. 💪 Remember, every obstacle is an opportunity in disguise. Hello hello lovely Jewellers! It's been a while. But I'm back again after a long break from posting on UA-cam. This time I'll not be posting every Sunday, like before as that was one of the reasons I got burnt out from it. So now I will rather be posting videos that are more casual and down to earth and not stress about being perfect. Us jewellers sure do love to be perfectionists don't we. ;) ...

    I’ll have to look through your channel to see if you’ve already touched on this - but I’d be curious to know your take on custom work & whether or not it’s worth the time & energy to accept custom requests … I’ve managed to gain a lovely, loyal band of repeat clients who often want customized or bespoke designs, and although I love working so closely with individual people, it can become very draining/time consuming 😅 I adore my clients (prob not the best business strategy to literally befriend all of my clients, haha… it’s to the point that I get sweet/thoughtful gifts from quite a few of them on holidays & whatnot) but aside from the obvious (that I need to put better boundaries in place & maybe discourage 80 back & forth messages per custom design 🫣) I’d love to hear your input … I either want to have set time frames (slower seasons) in which to accept requests, or completely take them off the table … although I fear the latter may alienate some of my most prolific buyers 🧐 I’m doing this as a single parent of 2 & working from a *tiny* home studio - I’ve been able to support my little 3 person family for 5+ years with this small business, so truly believe I have the right ingredients to become much more successful (financially), but with the added hurdle of ADHD *really* struggle to prioritize & maintain/be consistent with any changes that might help me grow … I’m spreading myself too thin as it is, and this video got me wondering if the decision to completely STOP custom work is coming from an emotional/overwhelmed place. Other designers seem to be a very mixed bag of opinions on this topic ! Thanks so much for your time! I didn’t intend to write a novel 😬

    It's RiverWind here, I often wondered how you run both business's and be a master of both... it is a natural transformation. I have to admit I felt initial concern that you would be designing less and putting your work out there... but as a Reiki teacher I can say... that you are expanding energetically, now you are putting responsibility on yourself to help others and that doesnt end energetically when your students go off and become successful. So rather than closing your business you are expanding into fractals of business all thriving because you care !!!! Good Luck as always ❤with Love. RW

      Personally I used to (as in I closed my business a week ago) make all the items myself so it was easy for me to see. But if you are outsourcing yourself, there are different ways. Either you are the one who will pick from a catalogue. Or you are the one who will deliver the designs to the manufacturer. You are always in the driver's seat. 😉

    Congratulations on feeling like you have clear direction! Follow that🙌. I'm a little sorry you're closing the jewelry biz because I was hoping to buy a simple ring in the future after I lose a bit more weight. My fingers are fat...But anyway...oh well. Other than that, as someone who likes to watch and learn from coaches, I might say it might hurt you a little bit that you don't have a current business while you're coaching, but I don't really think so. Not enough to worry about anyway. Simply because you have had a very successful jewelry business, as you said, so you have credibility in this sphere. You are just changing your focus now, and actually, that is something we entrepreneurs need to know how to do, Because it is scary to change direction. You may actually be teaching us a lot about THAT.😉 My guess is you'll do well in this. And if by some crazy chance you don't do as well as you hope, you'll come up with something else 😁 I think being an entrepreneur is in your DNA.

    • @megan.collins
      @megan.collins Місяць тому

Some loyal customers have also been messaging me about being sad it's closing. But I feel like it's time for the next season and there has also been so much positive support for this new direction and with the retreats. But like you said, being an entrepreneur is in my blood and no matter what, I always have plenty options and ideas. In fact I feel like when you follow your gut and go with what lights you up, doors and opportunities open up so much more! 🤗

    Congratulations on your new journey! ❤ I've been following you and couple other designers on UA-cam for along time. I started my jewelry business back in June 2021. Not all peaches and cream at first, but I'm thankful that I'm taking the time to grow and not pushing to "sell, sell, sell". First 2 years I did local craft fairs with costume jewelry. This past year I decided to transition to demi-fine jewelry, investing in quality photography, and simply enjoying the process. I've partnered with a store in New York and their online platform to further extend my audience. Learning how to grow my Pinterest page with valuable content. Instagram has been growing slowly as well. But there's nothing like having a conversation face to face with people to grow a business. I found that I was so focused I the commercial side of designing jewelry rather than exploring my creative side. I'm definitely going to focus on bringing out my creativity more this coming year. 🎉

    One can only admire the depth of your personal introspection that brought you to your decision. I always applaud the courage of a person to make such a change after having consolidated the business you've been building for years. Whishing you all the best for the new journey.
