That stretch didn't close until about 1980!
Hi there Michael was closed to passengers in 1970 i had read maybe it was 1980 for freight, anyways thanks for pointing that out cheers nigel
Correct, stayed open for freight into Louth. Nice to see the Holywell lane bridge, used to spend a lot of time there as kids in the fifties/very early sixties putting coins and nails on the line!!!😅
Enjoyed your video by the way!
thanks Michael for the feed back, LOL for putting coins and nails on the line, pleased you enjoyed the vid, have a nice week cheers nigel
Nice video Nigel 👍
Hi there, thanks and a happy new year to you
Great video 👍
Hi K1eran, thanks mate
Hey, Nige a good first video of 2025. As I said on your live feed the Carlisle Way sounds great. I wish you all the best with that. Yeah, a few good bridges there the Packhorse being one. All the best. Mark
Hi Mark thanks, been not the best of months so hopefully back on the trails and enjoy 2025, hope you find the strength to do your multi day walks again cheers nigel
@@nigelharness9032 A pleasure always Nige. hey, I'm sure you'll pick up. Me? Yeah, I hope so too mate - I so wanna multi-day hike. Take care.
we lost my mum mid December and the funeral still to come so the settle to carlisle trail hopefully will help
@@nigelharness9032 Ah, bless her Nige - I'm sorry to hear about that. I trust she had a good life. Yes, the trail will help.
Hi Mark, yes she had a good life apart from last 4 years when she was mainly bed bound, and yes being out in nature will help thanks mate for the kind words cheers nigel
Hi Nigel thanks for sharing your video, I hope you had a nice Christmas and I hope you have a great year in 2025 cheers Glenn. it's a 👍from me
Hi Glenn nice to hear from you, thanks and yes have a great 2025 yourself cheers nigel
Well if you like stream trains this sure is the place to see them and you have been lucky this year with the amount of trains that you have been able to see. Cheers Alan
Hi Alan, yes this video all about the steam locos, i do tend to go looking for them a bit these days, cheers nigel
I often walk along the old line from Farlesthorpe to Willoughby and have done for many years. If you had turned left and continued towards Farlesthorpe you would have come across another railway cottage and if you walked past this you could join the line again and walk to another railway cottage and the newer fishing lake which is run by Burgh le Marsh angling club and is better maintained than the one you saw. The old fishing lake used to be fished regularly about 20 years ago. The dogs buried in the woody bit near the crossing cottage at Well belonged to an Alford character and the line from Well crossing cottage was walked by many about 15/20 years ago but has sadly become very overgrown now. Thanks for the video.
Hi Janet, yes will walk that way next year towards Farlesthorpe love walking the old lines, thank you for letting me know about the buried dogs, didnt know i could the walk the line from crossing cottage until i got there all part of the adventure and now i know i can walk further on the branch line, nice to hear from you cheers nigel
Hi Nigel I love your love of steam trains and I can understand why. You have some great footage, beautiful trains and I especially love seeing them going through the countryside and at historic train stations like Goathland. You put a great compilation together here 👍~ Anna
Hi Anna and Alf, has been a good year out watching the steam locos in gorgeous countryside and there is a special feeling being in an old station or waiting room like Goathland, pleased you enjoyed the compilation, dont know how far your off Bala lake but hear they have planning to extend along side the lake and build a station there. thanks for the feed back and enjoy your Sunday cheers nigel
Nice video Nigel 👍 😊
Hi there, thanks for watching and enjoy your day cheers nigel
That was cracking Nige - a great montage of steam action. I'm glad I caught the live. All the best. Mark
Thanks Mark, enjoy your weekend and thanks for watching cheers nigel
@@nigelharness9032 A pleasure Nige - that was fun. I will have a good one. You too.
I`ve walked the old railway line at Willoughby a couple of times and really like it there.
Hi there, yes love walking the old lines, just a pity its not in use, cheers for coming along nigel
@nigelharness9032 a bit of trivia. In the original Twilight Zone series there is an episode called A Stop At Willoughby about a man who gets off a train at a town that doesn't actually exist. Conversely in Lincs we have a Willoughby that does exist but with no railway line 🙂
nice one enjoy your day cheers nigel
Nice video Nigel. Thank you for sharing 😊
Hi there and thanks
Very foggy day. I hope it didn't make the trail slippery. Great auntumn colors and love the waterfall.
Hi there nice to hear from you, the trails are uneven and slippery so you have to keep focused, love the Autumn colours and waterfalls, enjoy your day cheers nigel
@@nigelharness9032 be careful out there.
Fill view Nige - I admire your passion - I get it. There were some tantalizing clues - that has to be part of the passion. You know the little things like the safety instructions on the bungalow. There that owl again as mentioned last night. Well, a good mooch about. All the best. Mark
Hi Mark, yes just adds to the walk looking for little or big clues and is part of the passion that has grown over the last 2/3 years, thanks for the full view and really did enjoy the outing, all the best cheers nigel
@@nigelharness9032 A pleasure Nige - I get that passion. It makes for a full day.
thanks Mark hope your having a good day nigel
@@nigelharness9032 A pleasure Nige - yeah the days good.
Morning Nigel that station you opened up with was lovely with the lights on and some autumn colours and seeing how it looked in black and white when it was a railway was good. Nice 8 mile winters walk with a bit of sunrise and some Christmas lights around. Love the cute deer and interesting to see that old platform. Shame about the proposal to the countryside there for the 50 mtr high pylons 😢 hopefully they will go underground, such lovely views around there. That was a really interesting walk :) ~ Anna 👍
Hi Anna, pleased some of the old railway stations havnt been destroyed it reminds us of the past and they are beautiful, always nice to see wildlife on a walk was hoping for a nicer sunrise but at least i missed the rain on Sunday, no one wants to see them pylons in some parts of the country they are taking them down, anyways thanks for coming along cheers nigel
Interesting Nigel, thanks for taking us along , see you Sunday 👍
Hi Richard, thanks for watching and yes see you Sunday cheers mate
Great video mate👍
Hi K1eran, thanks for watching mate such a shame these lines were closed down
Must say, when I hear the name "Bronte" I picture mist and rain anyway. So this atmosphere was perfect for the name! What a beautiful walk and location! Mysterious and peaceful!
Hi Marti, yes it was all them things you mention, hoping to go back and visit more locations from the books top withins etc, thanks for coming along cheers nigel
Brilliant to see and get on a steam train again, something we were going to do this year but never managed it, which was a shame. It had t be a must do next year for sure, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, yes made a nice day out with the family, was the next day after my Bronte falls walk can you believe, hope you get next year with your grandson its railway200 next year, where shilton was the 1st ever station i think, anyways thanks for watching mate cheers nigel
Yep, I had a forecast of full sun all day when I was last in the lakes and still waiting for it now, sick of the mist and fog already. Fair play the falls did look nice but so much better on a good day, bring back summer I say, cheers Alan.
Hi Alan, yes another gloomy day here today and ready for a change, totally agree will be much better on a nice blue sky day will go back at some point, ready for summer already, anyways enjoy your week cheers nigel
Fabulous area Nigel and stunning autumn footage. Loved the views from this wonderful steam train. So good that the old water tower is now a visitor centre. You had lovely weather 🙂👍~ Anna
Hi Anna and Alf, thanks it was a nice family time trip, the weather and Autumn colours were stunning, so much better than my walk to bronte falls the day before, do enjoy my railway history cheers for watching nigel
A nice steady pull out on these steam trains Nigel. This one going through a lovely valley - I caught sight of some of it. I thought the visitor centre was to the point and uncluttered. They did a god job. Well, good going, I hope you're well out there. Mark
Hi Mark, ye the trains on a heritage line is usually restricted to 25 mph but thats great more time to take in the views, yes the visitor centre was interesting with all the old photos and information, there was lots of photos on loops, all well here and hear your feeling strong again brilliant news cheers nigel
@@nigelharness9032 hey, that's good Nige. I wouldn't complain either - sit back and enjoy. Good to hear of the visitor centre - money well spent. Re-the ankle and leg. Yes, coming out the other side. Ye ha! Have a great week ahead.
Hi Mark, had a good start today been walking with our local walking group 17 of us plenty of banter and lovely Autumn colours, enjoy your week mate cheers nigel

Hi Nigel this was a misty day but still so beautiful around here. The autumn colours were gorgeous. I love waterfalls so much, this was beautiful and the sound so relaxing. The Bronte sisters must have really liked it here and no wonder they got so inspired. This was brilliant ~ Anna 👏👍

So good to see and hear of the gorgeous walk Nigel. Sorry for the late view but a full view. The colours were and are splendid - we say it all the time. It has to be a fave time of year. I bet that fox was something else - truly rare that. Nice to know the people aren't running away. How good to be recognized and to hear of their walking plans. Well, Imagine if our office was outdoors. Wouldn't that be awesome. Another cracking day Nige. All the best out there. Mark
Hi Mark, thanks for the full view and yes must be my favourite time of year with the amazing colours, was a real treat seeing the fox and cross a frozen lake, yes was nice bumping into people that watch the vids and had a good 10 minutes sharing stories and next years plans, just as nice as seeing great views etc, would be awesome if our office was outside but alas, anyways always the next adventure to look forward to cheers nigel
Don't know how I missed this one Nigel, sorry I'm late. Such a gorgeous place near your home. Must have been great to see the Northern lights there, loved the footage of them. The autumn colours are lovely and the singing birds soo cute. Nice to be near a lake too and having a flap jack near the river. That was lovely and it was si good that you chatted to people who s watch you on here 😃👍~ Anna
Hi Anna and Alf, yes its an area of outstanding natural beauty, the footpaths are usually quiet and can find peace and solitude and not many people visit the lake, was great to capture the Northern lights they seem to be on show more and more, was wonderful to meet people who have actually watched some of my videos my 15 minutes of fame right there LOL, anyways thank you so much for watching cheers nigel
Nice video Nigel. Have a lovely day 😊
Hi there, thanks and hope your day has been lovely as well, cheers nigel
Nice way to start the day sunrise and a breakfast and I think me and Mrs Metalman were the only people in the UK who missed the Northern Lights :o(. We have a lot of squirrel activity in out local woods at the moment and we used to have one every day in our back garden for years, then all of a sudden stopped, I think he had been run over :o(. Some great colours in the trees the best time of the year for colour for me. Good day out and always nice when someone recognises you from UA-cam, cheers Alan
Hi Alan, we do get some nice sunsets/sunrises this time of year, think your right about the only people who didnt see the Northern lights LOL, will be more chances over the winter, do love seeing the squirrels busy collecting nuts and nice one use to visit, very nice when you get recognised and have a nice chat, anyways thanks for watching on this dreary day cheers nigel

Thank you for posting your walk. I’m an amateur genealogist and my Marshall, Gosling and Staines ancestors lived in those towns. They moved to Jackson, Michigan in the 1880’s it’s a very rural area that must have felt familiar to them. Seeing the church and burial area is amazing too!
