    Two expert UA-cam channels with almost polar opposite views on the utility/safety of upright rows are RP (Renaissance Periodization with Dr. Mike Israetel) and Jeff Cavaliere's Athlean-X site. It's fascinating to hear their opinions - Israetel has a Ph.D. in Exercise Science and Jeff a Master's in Physiotherapy. I'd really like them to do a comprehensive video together on the pros and cons of upright rows that each perceives. In my youth, there was a lot less freely-available info on exercise and weight-training, so "compare and contrast" was largely out. Instead, I bought a Weider barbell/dumbbell set (the one with plastic weights filled with sand!) which came with a pamphlet of exercises, and the upright row was one of 'em. IIRC, the upright row was encouraged with a barbell, but only until the upper arms were parallel or slightly above parallel to the floor. I did them for years.

    I’m 13 weeks pregnant with my third and I handeled that first trimester like a boss. Although I didn’t have anti nausea medicine I was downing ginger teas every morning so that I wasn’t couch bound and miserable. I have managed to workout my entire first trimester and plan to exercise my whole pregnancy. I find it sometimes discouraging though when I go to the gym because I feel like why?? Although I know it’s going to benefit me during and post it just feels like I have to fight my mental everyday to continue moving forward so that I don’t give up. I know I will reap the benefits and do while being pregnant. Anybody else?

    • @miscellaneousme
      @miscellaneousme Місяць тому

      Mentality to push through is definitely tough during pregnancy when you’re not seeing results the same way you can when you’re not pregnant. I’m pregnant with #6. Some pregnancies I did exercise (mostly HIIT workouts) and some I didn’t. The biggest factor for me that got me back into exercising now (starting at 5 months pregnant- better late than never!) is that I know how much of a marathon labor and deliver is, and I want to make it easier on myself for that time. I guess the takeaway from all that is that you’ll have to find the reason that works for you, which may be different from your former reason for exercising when you weren’t pregnant. I wish you all the best!

    I started to type a question but watched a bit more of this video and you answered it. It was about depth passed 90 degrees since I'm only 5'8 and its a challenge finding a belt squat machine. Its between the Squat Max MD or the Rogue Rhino unless there's another option that allows a greater depth. Great job on providing a very thorough review! You got a new subscriber out if it.

    Sooo helpful, thank you! Something I’ve been struggling with in my back squat is feeling strain on my wrists. I do always make sure the bar is at my armpit and my elbows are in and down. Am I loading/positioning the bar wrong or just putting on too much weight? I know it’s hard to diagnose without seeing my squat, but curious if you’ve worked with others who’ve encountered this before! thanks!!

    You really hit the nail on the head when you said injuries happen when load exceeds capacity, not necessarily whether the back is rounded or not. Most people blindly suggest that you should never deadlift with a rounded back without addressing the fact that a lot of elite lifters actually lift that way, and that you can train yourself to lift that way (I'm not saying you should lift with a rounded back though). You did a great job addressing this!

    • @AnnieMillerCo

      Yep! And incline bench as well though the arch is less aggressive there as it’s a bit a hybrid between bench and overhead press. Still looking for a packed shoulder and good range though.
