Welcome to All Throws- The premiere destination for piledrivers, suplexes and judo tosses in video games.
I've been fascinated by fighting game throws ever since the days of playing Virtua Fighter 2 on PC as a kid. With each new fighting game I bought, the first thing I would do was go through each character and see what throws they could pull off.
Throw animations give game developers an opportunity to really develop the personality and fighting style of each character. From the player's perspective, it also gives you a way to "own" your opponent and take control of a fight.
Here on All Throws I'll be covering a wide range of both popular and obscure fighting games, plus beat 'em ups and action/adventure titles. Whether you love martial arts, are studying video game animation, or are simply curious to see what characters are capable of, this is the channel for you. Be sure to subscribe for more grappling goodness.

1. Japanese names are given second, where applicable.
2. The final boss was selected using cheats for the Final Burn Neo emulator.
Superior Soldiers (Perfect Soldiers in Japan) is a 2D versus fighting game released in arcades by Irem in 1993. The action of the game takes place in a futuristic post-apocalyptic setting. The story of the game isn't specified, but the player must fly to the moon to defeat an antagonist powered by Bydo, a mysterious source of light from Irem's R-Type series of horizontal scrolling shooter games. The ending cutscenes for each character are all very similar, with the fighter being perplexed as the defeated Bydo flees the scene.
Superior Soldiers has noticeable similarities to Street Fighter, although I would hesitate to call it an outright Street Fighter clone. The developers made enough effort to give the game unique theming and characters.
Starsaber is a blatant rip-off of Capcom's mascot Captain Commando, who had his own beat 'em up game in 1991. Starsaber's throw even looks similar to Captain Commando's. With a name like Starsaber, it would have made more sense to copy Capcom's character Hayato Kanzaki, who wields a laser sword in the games Star Gladiator and Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein. I also found it strange that the character Busido is a traditional sword-wielding samurai despite being in a futuristic game. His off-white karate gi is reminiscent of Ryu's, and he performs a similar shoulder throw.
It's difficult to deny that Reptilian is at least inspired by Blanka, due to his green and orange palette, biting grab move, electrical ability, and a special move similar to Blanka's rolling attack.
Meltdown is one of my favourite fighting game characters that I've come across so far. He looks like a hybrid of Judge Dredd, Robocop, and Cyclops from the X-Men, with a radioactive superhero theme. He has a machine gun built into the arm of his armor suit, and can also use the bullets to power his punches like a jackhammer.
The game takes a simplistic approach to grab and throw moves. Characters typically have either just a standard throw, or a standard throw with a command throw. Command throws are performed by pressing all three punch buttons or all three kick buttons plus forward, although the game struggles to recognise this input. Reptilian has two pummeling style grab moves. While every character can initiate their standard throw whilst running, this only adds a horizontal slide to the move in the case of Arabian Moon. She is also the only character who can perform their throw in the air.
I was fairly satisfied by the selection of throws available in the game, but there is still room for improvement. Although Meltdown has some nice throws including a rolling German suplex, the game is lacking a true grappler character like Zangief. Satinsect would have worked as a grappler, given his size and strength, but he only has one command grab, which lazily recycles frames from his standard throw. It's not totally clear what Cattydox's standard throw is supposed to be. At first it appears as if she is trying to sit on her opponent's face, like Aksa in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters for SNES. However, she ends up doing something like an Osotogari (large outer reap) from Judo. It's a shame that all the characters were not given a unique running throw, since running adds a fun dimension of strategy to this game.
The AI is incredibly cheap in Superior Soldiers, blocking almost every attack from the player and spamming special moves. This seems to be a common issue with 2D versus fighting games. Nonetheless, the gameplay was fun, and the special move inputs were simple and responsive for the most part.
The game has a somewhat inconsistent art style between characters. The female fighters have a gritty and rotoscoped look, similar to the beat 'em up game D. D. Crew by SEGA. This results in Cattydox having a creepy uncanny valley style dancing stance. The final boss Skull Reaper looks similar to Robo X in Streets Of Rage 3 / Bare Knuckle 3, being a metallic skeleton with glowing red eyes. He also moves in a similar way. By contrast, characters like like Busido have a more cartoonish and pixelated appearance as you would see in Street Fighter 2.
Unlike other post-apocalyptic 2D fighting games like Tuff E Nuff / Dead Dance for SNES, Superior Soldiers avoids having dingy and unappealing graphics. Instead, the game benefits from having vibrant and beautiful level backgrounds. I particularly like the stage designs of Busido and Satinsect.
Overall, it is definitely worth trying Superior Soldiers if you're interested in arcade fighting games.

This is like the MMPR fighting game but with more budget.
Why does that Gonzalez fighter look so much of Genma Saotome from Ranma 1/2.
That butt cracker though 😢
I can’t do all of the throws. I can only do the Irish Whip, up throw, down throw, neutral throw, up back throw, neutral back throw, and command throw.
Do you need help with any moves in particular?

@@AllThrows I forgot Tim’s iron claw. I don’t know why Tim’s ultimate has such a clunky input though. I mean, Haggar’s ultimate has a reasonable input. It’s just a 360. Like Zangief.
@@randomsupergodzillalizardd9981 The iron claw is: Hold down, press A + J. Yeah, it's an awkward input for the Super Slam, but I don't mind as long as the game can actually recognise it properly.
Weird for me hearing those voice samples crystal clear after growing up with the Sega Genesis version.
Ryoko had like 90% of all the throws! 😂
My ravorite version of Batman and Aquaman is from génesis
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And Love Retro Dead Dance !

I was using save states in this playthrough so I could rewind whenever something went wrong.
It's really good that there's a fighting game made by Capcom, that's not just another Street Fighter clone
Can we unlock the other characters in this game?
This video shows all the available characters in this game. The two boss characters are playable only in Team Battle Royale mode. New characters were added in the sequel Ring Of Destruction: Slam Masters II.

@@igorschirato2799 ....you really need to start to talk like a normal person
How do you do the special finishers?
Simply input the relevant command during a grapple. You can find the inputs on Strategy Wiki.
Mace and Alana had the coolest grabs
This game doesn't look that bad, but I still think that Capcom should have won the lawsuit
2:51 My favorite move in the Genesis version Darkseid just lands on you😂
Only the first 2 games had different animations for throws for characters. Later they used a mechanic when character simply grabs an opponent and moves him forward or backward (it was called Balance Breaker). In 5 you could input attack button to strike immediately after the grab animation.
Excellent video about what is, to me, an underrated GBC Game. I Do think its charm comes into its uniquness (WWF Wrestlezrs in a Double Dragon like game). It is no surprise that it is a Fun gaming experience knowing Way Forward made it. I'm also digging the stunner looking like an RKO (probably cause Im a Randy Orton fan) & The Lat Ride looking like The X-Factor (which is such a cool underrated move). As you stated in your excellent analysis & review of the game, the graphics are also ahighlight & very pleasant to look at, enhancing the wholke experience. All in all a super fun hidden gem on the GBC . Your excellent video & review of this one just earned You an instant sub & fan of your channel my Friend ! Cheers.
Card girl hit the hurricanrana 😆
Is there a much simpler name for Fei Long's Shushugai (his throw where he grabs his opponent, flips over them while hanging onto them, then throws them)?
This move is called Jumping Flip in Tekken, as performed by Nina. In Ninja Gaiden, it's the Guillotine Throw. I've also seen it referred to as Overhead Cannon in Virtua Fighter 3 (Lau and Pai).

can you teach me how to do the pin manuver when doing a grab? i can do everything else but it seems like it needs special timing!
Ok so the input for the tackle is K,K,K. The game will ignore inputs you do whilst the tackle animation is in progress. Once you land on the ground then you can either press P,P,P,P for punches, or K,K,K for head-butts. You need to input it quickly, as if you hesitate then the enemy will counter the move. An easy trick to do the move is to just mash K repeatedly from the grapple (head-butt version), or K,K,K,P,P,P,P,P,P,P.. (punching version).
@@AllThrows i appreciate the help! yeah i guess the reason why I couldnt do it was because the guide i was following was wrong haha. thanks again!

I still fight it funny that no one talks about how Galford and Hanzo's movelists are practically identical 😄
