After 25 years in the Motorsports industry it's time for a new challenge. I always liked going off-road, but never had the time to fully enjoy the overland lifestyle. Now I have been given a second chance to try something new and explore new places. I hope you will join me as I begin my overland adventure.
How To Install Air Lift Air Bags on a Jeep JT Gladiator
It's no secret that my Gladiator is heavy, so its time to help it cope with the extra weight by upgrading the rear springs to the Teraflex 3.5 HD spring and Air Lift air bags.

2023 Polaris RZR Ryco Moto Street Legal Kit
Awesome video, i just recently installed them on my JLUR and i am running a similar set up with the steers smarts parts and the teraflex 2.5 inch lift. But I noticed i couldn’t reinstall the sway bar disconnect park bracket that goes next to spring tower because it hits the new inner fender. Any idea what I could do to get them back on there?
So what was up with that one light that kept going out? And did you ever record footage of the light bar at night and compare it to the headlights?
do you run those lights curved or straight and why ?
Great to hear you're doing well man! Missed overland expo this past year, but will hopefully see you in 2025!
You're not going to replace the bearings and seals in the back of the spindles?
We recently drove the entire range west of Quartz Mountain to Mt Scott through Rosevelt. Was a great trip.
Did your box in the center of the dash go back in? I just installed the same winch on my pro xp and mounted the solenoid in the same spot and the box hits it when I tried to drop it back into the dash?
Good on you, but not for me. Getting rid of full mud coverage and going back in with half mud coverage. Wires exposed and something else to corrode that plastic does not offer. Did you by chance think about moving your entire front axle forward with the adjustable arms 1/4 of an inch?
Great video - thanks for sharing Did you have any clearance issues at full stuff by not chopping the fenders? Did you find anything to fill the holes in the stock fender where you drilled the pins?
Awesome video, we took lonesome dove the opposite direction in a tundra on 35’s. Had a wrangler and gladiator bet each other we wouldn’t make it up the ledge😁. We did. Super fun place, we’ll go again. Cut our teeth out there.
I'd like to see how you mounted the pistol holster
Howdy, its been about a year now since the re-gear hows everything holding up? What gears did you go with? Im thinking about revolution or spicer/Dana. Any other thoughts you can share? Thanks
You keep pulling on the steering wheel to get in, you are going to flex the dash enough to break the printed circuit board in the dash. Put a grab handle on the windshield pillar, USE THAT TO GET IN AND OUT.
It's a ~40 year old vehicle, of Course everything is wore out. Engine likely needs Everything. Might want to look at the rod bearings while you're in there. If you are not all-in, just put it back together & sell it. You could investigate a 5.7L Mopar swap, don't have to go all the way to 6.4L. Any swap will be expensive though, unless you got a 'free' motor. Lots of info online on FSJ engine swaps. PS: Just the radiator alone for an LS swap is $655 + shipping. "Oooh an LS swap is Sooo Cheap"
Who said it’s cheap? Complete engine, tranny, transfer case rebuild isn’t a lot cheaper than getting an old Tahoe and swapping over all the parts. The benefit of more horsepower, better mpg and reliability are worth it. You don’t need to drop $655 on a radiator. Half that price will get a great aluminum radiator that will do the job. Used gas tanks are cheap, out of a S10 or blazer will work.
I hear your reasoning for keeping it pure, but I guess it comes down to what you plan to do with it? LS swap is hard to beat if you want power and reliability, better mpg and easy replacement and upgrade parts. The original engines in the Wagoneer are just pretty much made up of other Chrysler, AMC motors depending on the year. I’m in the middle of a 1987 Wagoneer LS swap. I had the same dilemma you are having. Even worse, I’m in California and it’s gotta be smog inspected. Everything in my GW was tired and needed major attention. After adding up all the costs involved the best route for me was to buy a complete car and use everything from it to build a better GW and pass inspection. There are tons of old, cheap rigs out there perfect for a LS swap. I bought a 100,00 mile 2004 Yukon Denali with a 6.0 for $3,000. It’s AWD. Took everything out. ECU, harness, smog equipment, exhaust, cats, motor, trans, transfer case. I got everything I needed except maybe gas tank and radiator. At this point it’s almost all in the Wagoneer and hopefully firing it up next month. By the time you buy the parts for the stock motor, rebuild it, rebuild the tranny and transfer case and maybe put fuel injection to make it more reliable you’re gonna be close to the same price to an LS swap. And the fact that you are doing the work is even better because the labor is the most expensive part of the swap. Anyway I like the videos and Iooking forward to see what you make of your Wagoneer!✌️
there's a roof top tent going to be set-up.. love the setup
Wanted to know if you considered getting metal spacers and longer bolts to install the bumper? Curious if that option would work here?
I'm not sure that would work with the design of the bumper. Interesting idea though. May have to take a closer look at that.
Ryco instructions. different color wires on connectors absolutely suck.
Agreed
It's been a few months since you put these in - what are your thoughts on them now?
I like the angle of the seat when Im sitting in it, but honestly its made it more difficult to get in and out. It puts the front of the seat much closer to the steering wheel even with the steering wheel as far up as it will go. My wife hates it and doesn't want to drive it. I'm most likely going to remove them.
Where did you get the mounting bracket that attaches to the bumper? My master kits included one is too small and the light hits the winch so I can’t lock it in place!
I used the mounting brackets supplied in the kit from KC. There are 3 holes in the brackets to mount the light to so I just played around with those holes until I was happy with the fit.
My wife got me the kit for Christmas for my X3. I peeked at the instructions and put it back in the box while dreading the job. Your video helped a lot even though it’s a Polaris. I think the install is basically similar. Not a lot of help on UA-cam.
Yeah the instructions leave a lot to be desired and I'm surprised there isn't much on UA-cam for this kit. Glad the video helped you!
Well now I'm regretting the recommendation so many have repeated on the forum... I bought 2 left & 2 right fronts. I guess the reasoning was they are longer for more protection in the back
I've heard that before but didn't know why they were doing that. I'm happy with the rears being rears.
@2ndChanceOverland Well, I ended up installing mine a couple weekends ago and it worked out okay. I guess the only issue people are running into is if they don't have the "high" fenders. I've seen them destroyed by having to cut reliefs in them... some horrible hack jobs. Mine did extend past the edge on the back, so I just angle cut and razor-edged it to look similar to the front
What size did you go with?
I guess I didn't realize there were size options, just ordered the first one that came up for my vehicle.
@@2ndChanceOverland I ordered the .75” for driver and passenger
I'll have to take a look and see what I ordered. Lol
I should get on my '70 Commando. I have a Pirate Jack front disk conversion set.
You absolutely should! It was an excellent upgrade and made it much better to drive.
Just got a Pro 6 for my 392 as a gift. Have always wanted a light bar since i was a kid. Anywho. After looking at reviews for bars on Jeeps i am debating on keeping. I use more on road and for speed vs offroad right now. How as the windnoise been on this 392? I live in a snowy climate, so i am regular at the carwash a couple times a week, how does it do in a car wash?
I love my Pro6's. Wind noise is a non-issue for me with this light bar. Under certain conditions you can get slightly more noise than normal but typically you don't notice any at all from it. Not like the big rectangular light bars that are atrocious with wind noise. The Pro6 sits lower on the windshield than most light bars instead of high over catching all the wind. I dont take my vehicle through automatic car washes any more. The brush style car washes are really hard on the paint, leaving micro-scratches in the clear coat and far too much friction. Plus we had an issue with an automatic car wash with one of our previous Jeeps and decided it was best to avoid them. I hand wash all my vehicles at home and the Pro6 does make it a little harder to clean the windshield and frame but not terrible.
Fun to watch. I’m doing an LS swap in my 1987. Just too many issues with the tired old motor and the upgrade isn’t gonna cost me much more than rebuilding the old boat anchor. More power, more reliability and better mileage and easier maintenance. I’d like to see you do an LS swap on yours. It’d be nice to see you do it.
The AMC 360 has its issues and I will admit to considering an LS swap for it, but I prefer to keep things 'in the family' if possible. Time will tell and I will be addressing some of that in my next video for the Waggy.
Good timing- I have a classic Wagoneer I am finally getting around to working on myself. Hopefully you won't regret keeping the OEM drivetrain 😄
It's turning into a bigger project than I anticipated. I will have an update video out soon and the OEM drivetrain will be a big part of it.....
The Small L Bracket 5:16 where does it Mount on the Rok Blokz Mount? Does is Mount in Front or Rear(U Mounted Rear), because I am Checking the Mounting Position of the L Bracket, Look like it has to Mount In Front if the Main Bracket.
I honestly don't remember. It's been a couple years now since I installed these and have since removed them due to interference with other mods I have made since.
@@2ndChanceOverland lol, what other Mods are Interfering?
Do those struts raise the hood up further than the prop does?
No they do not, it's about the same as the factory prop rod.
with that open bed, how much dust gets into your decked drawers? Is it bad?
I got a little bit in the ammo cans but the drawers were pretty clean. Mostly dirty from tossing dirty objects into them. They actually seal up pretty well.
I have the 4500 pound winch I'm putting on a pro r and just like mine when you mounted the winch on the mount it looks like it will pull down once it enters the fairlead instead of going straight in and over the top of the spool. Do you run it like that or were you able to change the direction of the rope? any issues?
I’m not him. But I must of missed something. I didn’t see what you seen!!
I was able to swap the cables attached to winch( blue on yellow and yellow on blue) and made it wind the opposite way. Now mine pulls straight over top the spool and around
What kind of roof rack is that? Do you have a sky one touch?
Nevermind saw that you have the normal hard top
It's the JCR Roof Rack. Unfortunately it does not work with the sky one touch from what I understand.
No need to jack the axle up before install?
It can be done on the ground by simply turning the wheels to access the bolts. I did jack up each side to torque the bolts after the install though.
I want to see the install on the driver rear with all the filler vent relocations....
There are no filler vent relocations needed with these.
Wagoneers can be a big pain in the butt project…but they’re super cool! Happy to see another one get saved! This will be fun 🍿
You're absolutely right about that! Not my first attempt at a Waggy build but I plan to see this one through. Seems like I find more and more wrong with it every time I pull a bolt so it's taking much longer than I had hoped for. Should have an update on the progress soon!
Where did you run the battery wire through the firewall?
I folded the windshield down and passed the wire through the opening there on the passenger side.
Goldens best pup's
The are great dogs!
I really enjoyed using my deck system, but I don’t think the efficiency justifies the extra 240 pounds that it weighs when I removed it I started seeing about two more mpg.
I agree the Decked system has its benefits, but the efficiency is lacking vs. its weight. In the Gladiator it is nearly as tall as the bed so it doesn't leave much room on top to secure things without potential issues of things flying out or blocking rear visibility. I think the new version of the Decked system is designed a little better with the shape of the drawers but I'm sure there is still quite a bit of 'wasted space'. Not sure if they were able to reduce the weight with the new version or not.
That’s a nice and clean looking addition that I’ve been thinking of doing to my Gladiator, but it’ll be interesting to see how much dirt/grime will build up behind the MOLLE panels and getting it cleaned out. Also, I know it’s “early in the game” and you’ll probably rearrange things as you adjust to the new kit, but may I suggest relocating your ARB compressor to either under the passenger seat using something like the Epic Adventure Outfitters mounting kit, or mount it onto the firewall under the brake booster behind the fender liner like Brad at TrailRecon typically does?
Thanks! I agree it will be interesting to see the dirt build up/clean up side of things, but the Decked system let A LOT of junk build up so it can't be any worse. I originally was going to relocate the ARB to the firewall with this change but ended up with some interference issues with some of my other mods, so I had to come up with a different solution. I prefer not to have the compressor in the cab just for noise reasons and don't care to leave a door open to work around when I air up.
Looks like a great way to organize some gear.
I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Possibilities are endless with MOLLE panels. Looks sharp.
I agree, Thanks!
It doesn’t take long to add up weight. After finishing the suspension install I will be taking the beast wagon to get a weight checkup. 😀
Always good to know where you stand with your vehicle weight.
@@2ndChanceOverland Definitely. I have taken and weighed the Red Beast already and plan to do so again after I install some different heavy duty WKO frame mounted rock sliders and have my camping gear loaded for a final overall weight.
Tried this a year ago and gave up, the instructions suck. Thanks to your help I just did it today in 2 hours. Thanks!
Glad to hear it helped and thanks for watching!
Understand the challenge. We use the truck scales near us a couple times a year. Our JKU grew heavy, quickly, and was the primary reason for a lift (springs, brake upgrades, etc.). Steel bumpers, winches, skid plates...larger tires... Goose Gear in the back, wiring to put in power ports. (I'm thinking of using more aluminum in a future Jeep.) What we carry, we use. We know the weight of almost everything we bring along. Next to space, it's the most precious commodity we have. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Time to upgrade to a Power Wagon
Not for me. Power Wagon is too big for what I want to do. I like the Gladiator platform, just working on fine tuning a few things and most of the items I removed I rarely or never used.
Love my Power Wagon. It is a big Red Beast, but climbs like a mountain goat.
I like the Power Wagon's and think they are a great truck. Ive seen a few out on the trails and there are a lot of positives for them.
@@2ndChanceOverland It’s all about finding the right vehicle platform that works best for your needs. I like a Jeep Gladiator as well. I just don’t fit well inside of one as I have very wide shoulders.
Well done video
Thanks!
Great video. Crazy how fast weight can get out of control when you aren't paying attention. Hit the scales with our Jeep and teardrop and we were shocked at how fat we got 😅
Thanks! It is crazy how fast it adds up. Easy to not really consider the amount of weight your adding when your more focused on figuring out the things you want to have (or think you want). Thanks for watching!
And now, if Jeep just got rid of those two extra doors you'd be set.
I've seen a couple videos of 2-door Gladiator conversions and they do look pretty sweet. I don't mind the rear doors though as it gives me extra interior storage for gear. I removed the rear seats and replaced them with a Goose Gear platform so I can toss things in like my 12v fridge or just to use as a nice flat area for the dogs if I bring them along.
I never understood the popularity for most of those items, and some you didn’t remove. They are heavy and semi-permanent. You lose the “modularity/functionality” of having a truck that is half Jeep. What would weight savings be if you went with softopper and Coleman ground tent? Lose that silly rack and roof tent.
To me having a semi-permanent solution is what I wanted. This vehicle was built specifically for the purpose of overlanding and stays setup at all times for that. Ultimately there is some trial and error when building a rig and sometimes something you think will be a good solution for your needs doesn't work out the way you thought it would. I didn't buy a Gladiator for 'truck' things (I have a full size truck for that) I bought it to make the overland vehicle that I wanted and I'm very happy with my choice. Thanks for watching!
@@2ndChanceOverland right on, purpose built and suits your needs. I guess I’m taking the weight savings to the extreme.
There is certainly a balance between having what you need/want and watching your weight. If I was building it more for harder rock crawling I would have done things different, but that's a different build all together.
To much money to throw arround. Back in the 80's, Bare bones CJ5, Cooler with Sandwiches, water and a 6 pack. Small Tent, basic outdoor gear, Sleep pad, tarp, Tiny gas lamp(Battery today) Small gasoline stove, Stop by the road and get a cord of firewood for 4$. Today i'ts basically the same gear, a bit larger truck. 2 Burner stove. Camp chairs, Folding table. And the heaviest is the 12 Ft Starcraft on the roof rack when fishing. One of the must have is a 12Volt fridge freezer. Awfull when you run out of ice
Certainly a bit different from back in the 80's. There are may ways to go overlanding/offroading and to each their own. I agree a 12volt fridge makes a huge difference and I carry one in the back seat (or where the back seat was).
