    Fascinating work. I am curious - when you do a restoration like this - what proportion of the shell is original and what will be new metal?

    the first min of this video really shows clearly why you need to jig a body for this amount of work. Thats a mighty fine spot welder.

    • @classiccarrevivalsofficial
      @classiccarrevivalsofficial 3 дні тому

      I don’t think you could restore a car like this without a jig! It was so over the place even taking measurements would have been a little sketchy and it would have taken considerably longer. Likewise, without the spot welder it would take so many more hours to complete what we’ve managed to complete so far!

    Be curious how many hours will be spend on rust and body..surprised that this car is getting such an investment eps since its a 912...great work of course, just not seeing the economics!

    • @classiccarrevivalsofficial
      @classiccarrevivalsofficial 7 днів тому

      I expect it to take 300-400 hours for metalwork alone but it’s tricky to tell at this stage. Full prep and paint will be another 250 hours. Economics don’t always make sense, we build a lot of cars where the build cost exceeds the end value but for most of our clients they just want their dream build. Buying a brand new car doesn’t make good economic sense as it depreciates year on year.

    Great work and amazing insight to the innards of these vehicles. Interesting that the seatbelt mounting point is different to the 911 and that there is a heater outlet on the side! I wonder why they bothered with that.

    • @classiccarrevivalsofficial

      I think some of the changes are year specific changes rather than model change. But I agree, it’s hard to understand why they change some of this stuff some times!

    I never held a welding torch in my life, but feel I'd do better work than the previous ' repairs' . Who does your blasting and do you favour any type of media ?

    • @classiccarrevivalsofficial
      @classiccarrevivalsofficial 10 днів тому

      Anyone can pull a trigger on a welder but it’s everything that goes along with that that matters. Panel prep, fitment, welder settings, even grinding is it’s own skill! We use ABS blasting who use various media depending on what they’re blasting. Olivine, slag, bead and walnut shell generally.

    • @classiccarrevivalsofficial
      @classiccarrevivalsofficial 14 днів тому

      To some people (and most of our customers) it’s not always about the cost of the build or resto. It’s about the end result and getting the car they’ve always dreamed of. That aside I would always recommend buying the most solid and original car (within reason) as a base as panelwork is labour intensive and expensive.

    • @classiccarrevivalsofficial
      @classiccarrevivalsofficial 14 днів тому

      Also why do these things always have to make financial sense? Buying a new car doesn’t make financial sense, it’ll depreciate. Joining a golf club doesn’t make financial sense. Just saying

    Great work and thanks for taking the extra time to share with the world. At around 20:40, you talking about the "kidney bowl". What does that part do structurally for the car? In other words, why it is there?

    • @classiccarrevivalsofficial
      @classiccarrevivalsofficial 16 днів тому

      No problem! The kidney bowl closes the end of the sill, creates a box section that runs up the B pillar and strengthens the junction between the sill and B pillar. The main problem is that it then creates a real dirt and moisture trap which is why this area is always the first to rust out on a 911/912. In the mid 80s they changed the design of the kidney bowl to incorporate the jacking point too.
