The Plant Ninja-Texas Gardener
Приєднався 28 тра 2021
I’m a gardener in the central Texas area(zone 8b)and would love to share my gardening journey and learn from other plant enthusiasts.
The name "Plant Ninja" came about as a play on words. Some days I'm tending plants with ninja-like skill and some days I'm just killing them 😅
I have curated some of the products I regularly use on an Amazon storefront(see link below). I do earn a small commission from any purchases you make through my storefront link.

Amazing! I especially like the purple skullcaps. I'm curious which way this garden bed faces (south? west?) and how many hours and which hours of sun this area receives. Thank you so much for sharing this picture of these tough, beautiful plants.
Gorgeous colors 🌻
Thank-you my friend! I’m enjoying their resurgence with cooler temps and recent rains😊
Wright’s skullcap Zexmenia Crape myrtle ‘Bellini’ Bicolor Iris African bulbine Texas lantana Magnolia ‘Little Gem’ Crossvine
Skullcap is also used in medicinal medicine. You have quite a few medicinal herbs 😍 ✨
I need to take a course on this. I know we have an herb study group in our county master gardener association but it’s hard finding the time😭
I love Beauty Berries!! So gorgeous ❤
Thanks for stopping by Pertrice! I’m really enjoying this plant. Curious if y’all are making anything with the berries?
Hummingbird moth, didn’t believe they existed until I saw one. Kind of like a Liger.
Fall is my favorite, as soon as those temps start dropping the plants know it and start putting on a show.
It’s a nice change of pace from July and august. I always have to restrain my desire to buy all the plants. 😝
Always informative and inspirational! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to say so😊
thanks for the video Natalie! my purple skullcap did not live but my pink skull cap did ok. Your desert willow is so pretty!
Hey Joan! Thanks! Isn’t it strange how some of these plants perform so differently for each of us? I may not have the pink skullcap touch😝
Second spring is real ❤
Almost as exciting as actual spring 😝
Great video! Thank you!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching😊
I love gomphrena. A great discovery for me this year.
Same, it’s my first year with gomphrena and it has exceeded my expectations😊
HEY! I was in 1st Armored Division!! How'd we never discover that before?! Those Gomphrena are such cheerful little things. They do for Summer/Fall what Poppies do for Spring.
Seriously, how’d we never figure that out?! I was in 1AD 2004-2007 and deployed with them 2006-2007. I actually got to shut the base down in Freiburg Germany. They are now in Ft Bliss. Should I put my poppy seeds you gave me down this fall?
Love the T-shirt!!!!
What’s up Joel! PROVIDERS representing on this thread(Laura also jumped on)! Thanks for watching my friend💗
The agave look great! 8:45 apparently if the tree gets purple leaves, then it is considered Forrest Pansy. I had no idea about that name! Everything is looking so nice! Congrats!
Thanks Martha! Common names can be different things to different people…I just can’t pronounce the botanical ones😂
@@theplantninja-texasgardener Botanicals Shmotalicals lol We do what we can, it's their fault they made it so complicated, plus no one is taking Latin now a days 😅
@@TheLivingBackyard you’re a kindred spirit 💗
Looking great!
Laura I so appreciate your support! PROVIDERS!!
I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for sharing your garden jouneys!
I so appreciate your kind comment and that you enjoy the channel! Thanks for sharing in the journey with me💗
How di you keep from having weeds come up through your rocks?
I primarily just pull weeds after a rain or use my weed torch along my granite pathway/garden area. I haven’t been a huge fan of weed barrier as i feel it negatively interferes with water/soil management.
@@theplantninja-texasgardener i agree. I won't use weed barriers.
@@lisaawild don’t get me wrong…I have some barrier in a few my garden beds now. Had to learn the hard way😂
Hi. I found your channel recently probably looking for videos on native plants for Texas. I am in Houston, so we probably get a bit more rain than y'all. I also have pets (2 dogs, a cat and a rabbit.) I have been incorporating more natives though I do have some roses. I want to hp the pollinators, birds and other wildlife, while not harming the environment.
Hey girlfriend! Texas A&M has a wonderful philosophy on pest management that includes biologic pest control as well: ipm.tamu.edu Also a wonderful gardener in Houston that I follow is Jo: youtube.com/@jostxgarden?si=ErjAuwOBKQMTBK-t
@@theplantninja-texasgardener yes I already follow Jo. She's great. I will check out the link you sent.
Beautiflul!
Thank-you!
Everything looks really great !🍂Happy Fall🍁
Thanks mom!!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏼❤
Happy to share it! Grateful for your interest 💗
Great content. You deserve a ton more views! Oh, and i am on their website now and very likely to purchase.
Always wonderful to know the content is helpful and appreciated. I think you’ll love your investment in your tank. I’m saving up for my second one🙌
I am afraid the weed burner will murder toads earthworms etc under the ground.
It is literally just a few seconds. It’s not a perfect tool but certainly a good option if used correctly.
This is a really good idea!! I would make these additions... Instead of the white PVC, use the Gray PVC. The gray PVC cost the same, but it is treated to resist sun damage. Over the years, white PVC will deteriorate due to sun damage. That is why gray is used for electrical uses. Also, you might try putting the upright pieces in flowerpots with concrete. They would still be portable. Thanks for you video.
I would have never thought of these upgrades. Pretty sure I’ll be needing to replace PVC at some point. I’ll keep an eye out for the gray PVC. Thank-you!
Texas redbud isn’t the same species as the Western redbud as your title shows. They have a different scientific name. The western is even more drought tolerant.
I see what you mean. Thank-you for the correction
Hey neighbor!! East Texas here…your garden is just beautiful. Next time I’m Southward, I’ll have to swing by the Nectar Bar. Looks like they have some interesting varieties. It’s hard to find a nursery that doesn’t just carry the same o’l plants year after year. Enjoyed your video! ☺️☺️
Love some east Texas! Thank-you for that compliment and I’m glad you’re considering the Nectar Bar. The owner is a wealth of knowledge and lovely to speak to. My current garden situation can best be described as…crispy😂
Hey. That is a very cool solution. I am going to diy something similar to our garden. Thank you for sharing it :)
So glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the tip! I haven’t set up a rain tank yet, but I’m looking for ideas so as not to “reinvent the wheel”! This will make a convenient addition to the setup 😊
That pump definitely makes using rain water so much more practical!
I want a tropical garden. Not sure with our Winter snow.
Containers(with a spot you can overwinter) might be the way to go.
@@theplantninja-texasgardener I'm afraid they may get stolen.
@@punanamousme8486 💔
The magnolia tree is blooming !
Whenever I water it, it’ll bloom a little for me even in the summer😊
I think those U-shaped garden hooks that hammer into the ground would be perfect to anchor this contraption! Anyway, going to build something like this to cover my container pond since it gets WAY too much sun for fish...
Glad to hear you’re going to conform to make it work for you. You’ll have to update us and let us know if the u shaped hooks work. 😊
Your video just showed up for me. So thankful. So much helpful and encouraging information. Thank you! I live in the Hill Country of Texas.

Hi 👋🏼. Just found your channel and subscribed. Was looking for other Texas gardeners near my zone of 9a in Corpus Christi. So glad I found your channel. Very very informative and you keep a beautiful garden. I have some of the same plants as yours so I am eager to watch your videos. Thank you for the tour and great info. 😊
Hey neighbor! My mom is in Rockport. She has a stunning garden💗. Thanks for joining the journey and I welcome your input! 🙌
what way does your garden face ?
Hello! My backyard (this tour) is mostly eastern exposure.
@@theplantninja-texasgardenerI was gonna ask the same question. Redesigning this fall and will use a lot of you suggestions. I am north of you in Dallas perhaps a bit hotter. Did someone help you design the layout. Thanks for the tour
@@donnajoy6951 I’m really excited to hear this! Get ready for some birds and pollinators! I designed my own layout. Figured central turf was practical with small dog and kids and that left the perimeter to work with. Sunniest part of the perimeter became my vegetable garden and the rest has been through trial and error. There’s a wonderful gardener in DFW area if you haven’t found her channel already: youtube.com/@shadedfromreality?si=rywBtd8Ma91XJacM
