    Ummmmm, the "girl from Alien" is Veronica Cartwright, who was Cathy in Hitchcock's' 1963 "The Birds, 1979 "Alien", 1978 "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers", as well as 2007 "The Invasion". Buncha TeeVee alien horror stuff too, including 2005 "Invasion". Her horror resume' is impressive. Respect

    The banjo player in the 70s film is an early celebrity cameo; Jerry Garcia from The Grateful Dead. The reason his clone fuses with his dog is because earlier, while running away, Donald Sutherland had seen the pod near (his friend) the busker and stamped on it in an attempt to save him but only damaged its function.

      My whole point with all that was in all other movies we only see the pods clone humans, but in 70s we see other non human thing (dog) cloned too, which was a feature of the novel

    Why did you devote a video to how they handled the death of a character without bothering to mention her name? She was Nancy Marchand, a long-time actress. It is rather disrespectful to post a video that earns you money off her death, and not mention her name. Shameful, actually, particularly in light of your blatantly sarcastic tone.

    • @couchbumkino5423
      @couchbumkino5423 День тому

      You're not the first to mention this, so I'll give an actual response: 1) Towards the beginning I say "today we'll be talking about one of the sopranos' most infamous edits" This video isn't ABOUT Nancy the actress or Livia the character. It's about strange production choices and weird editing. Idk if you're familiar with my channel, but strange editing, particularly in the Sopranos, is a topic I've covered several times before. Other real names not mentioned include Tony, The Oracle, Cypher/Ralphie, etc. 2) "which is a shame because she was a very good actress" 2:03 I'm not intentionally disrespecting anyone, and I'm not putting on a "blatantly sarcastic tone". If you're familiar with my videos, that's just my voice. I'm not putting on a character or tone for this, that's how I normally talk. 3) I don't feel that I'm unfairly earning money off her death as you say. According to one of the articles I linked in the description "the CGI Livia Soprano was created artificially without Nancy Marchand's consent" Idk all the behind the scenes details, but it seems like the show itself profited off her death in a way (this was way before AI and all the questions about ethics to be fair). If an actual member of Nancy Marchand's family reached out asking me to demonetize the video, I would honor that request. It seems besides the point to go on about her as an actress when it's self evident that she was so good we're still taking about her 25 years after her passing and the character was so iconic that HBO went through all this trouble to get one more scene with her.

    I made the mistake of reading the book after watching the 70s version: especially after watching that iconicly bleak ending. I was so disappointed by the book's ending, it feels like a cop out. I've always wondered if the Hays code or 1950s sensibilities kept Jack Finney from making it too crushing.

    I'm confused why 1982 got a point for the ship's explosion (that MacReady's team didn't do) but not for finding the thing frozen in ice, when they did in fact find it frozen in the ice. It had escaped its ice block, terrorized the outpost, and quickly froze again in its split-face form once outside. Right? Its corpse was responsible for assimilating Bennings, meaning it was not dead, merely still frozen until (at least part of it) fully thawed once more.

    • @couchbumkino5423
      @couchbumkino5423 13 днів тому

      1982 Thing we see the ship exploding (in a video tape) but we never actually see the Thing literally carried back in a block of ice, whereas 2011 Thing the ice block scene happens in the present just like the book.

    • @noah._.powell
      @noah._.powell 12 днів тому

      I should have clarified which specific part I was talking about a little better haha. I think I worded it in a way that inadvertently meshed both of your seperate points of either being found frozen in ice or being transported in the ice block together, and that's totally my bad. I totally understand what you mean about the explosion scenarios, but what I was mainly referencing was 16:50, where your first set of points that you give for story beats begins with the first scenario of finding "the thing" frozen in the ice, which they did with the split-face outside of the Norwegian base. Otherwise I agree with not giving 1982 a point for transporting "the thing" in the ice block because they definitely didn't do that at all. Also, thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my comment! What a fantastic video and channel you've got going. Seriously. I subscribed after viewing this video and I watched a few of your other videos (your Sopranos videos, as I'm watching the series right now) and I'm eager to see what's next!!

    • @couchbumkino5423
      @couchbumkino5423 12 днів тому

      @@noah._.powellooooh you mean when they found the alien body outside the Norwegian camp? TBH it’s a short shot and I forgot about that. I guess my reason for not remembering was that it seemed dead, just part of the wreckage. Whereas in my mind the dog was THE Thing that started all their trouble. And if I’m being nit picky, the book, 50s, and remake movie found it literally in a giant ice cube, and the 80s thing you’re talking about was just in the open in the snow. Either way, good point you have. Also either either way, 80s Thing would win with or without this extra point haha Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it. Got another adaptation showdown coming soon.

    I have a suggestion if you ever make another one of these. I think it’s in the season 3 episode “To Save Us All From Satan’s Power,” there’s a scene where Tony is talking to Hesh outside and the shot-reverse shot shatters the 180 degree rule. With each edit, Tony and Hesh swap between the left and right of the screen. Not bad editing by any means (in fact, I love it) but it definitely is strange!

  • @kekchanbiggestfan

    It’s obvious that this was a decision made in the edit. Her expression is integral to the scene, but if the clip was played normally it might only have barely been visible before she walks out of the 4:3 safe area. The speed ramping was probably the least jarring way to do it, even though it’s still jarring. The sound effects could be a way to sort of sell that we’re getting a glimpse of what’s going on inside her mind and to integrate the ending of the shot with the start of the shot and probably also to give an indication that it’s actually an intended effect and not a technical issue.

    • @couchbumkino5423
      @couchbumkino5423 16 днів тому

      Good points. I feel like if the clip was played normal speed, Carm's expression would have been much more subtle. Subtlety is something this show is normally good at, but this edit anything but subtle.

  • @kekchanbiggestfan
    @kekchanbiggestfan 16 днів тому

    A few notes: This is a composite, not CGI. When you’re comparing costs, it’s not like the process itself was costly, it was the salaries for the crew. It also wouldn’t be just the work for the effect itself, but meetings and administrative tasks that come with bringing on an external team. The Sopranos was also shot on film which would add more steps and take more time. Stemming from 2001 is not the reason this looks bad. VFX work is not just what happens in post production, you need to plan for it and shoot with the effect in mind. It’s clear that whoever shot the scene had no idea what they were doing as not only the lighting, but also the perspective is completely off between the original footage and the new scenes. A VFX artist can try to do their best with what they’re given, but garbage in means garbage out. Most people would be watching this on CRT televisions that were a lot smaller than TVs today and that would smooth over the image somewhat. The inconsistencies would still be there, but the rough edges would be less jarring.
