I moved over to an hybrid system. I am also a 48yr DIYer meaning I have a lot of customs stuff, from mics to compressors. Even a stepped up 670 clone. My front end and backend is where the analog magic is. In the box is where I process beyond what pure analog can do. I'm at over 2000 plugins, I'm addicted! I can sum OTB passively or ITB. I still keep an 2 track reel to reel around but I don't need tape anymore. Oh and I have a real plate reverb here as well. Andrew Schepps not Andre, lol

🤓Hey Dolly, I see here you are a Gear Nerd too. Mmm I must say many have started out not familiar with AD/DA option with the DAW domain(Hybrid) system, I love it when I see that Analog Gear because I've done the same as many, I had a 003 rack, Mackie 24 rack, some small DBX gears, etc which I was getting it set up with a MacPro, which in a room side, It's did sound Big, punchy, Boss sound, then after few days, I was in a store and looking around at some med high-end gear, all along and heard some song going though these systems was a game changer, The sound, characteristic, impedance,color, High-definition was in my face. As a beginner, I knew I want more for my studio, which would also take a big effort. I love plug-n and own a lot of them, and I own analog gears, not used any, but hopefully, start here in the future. In the past I started trading in my Board for New gear, to meet my journey, and I am still not fully there yet, my approach was beginning to be prices, So I had to put in more work time than studio time. Big Up to you, like to here play or Mix a song. 😎🥰

Sounds like the bass drum could have used some more muffling, awfully ringy (makes more difficult to cut the mix IMO) then you'd be more able to dig into the compression without bringing up the low end tail of the kick. I actually liked a little of the EQ boost around the 5k ish, not too clicky there but the EQ in general sounds really nice on that. Definitely cleared up the kick a lot. Curious to hear more of your new song too! Also have you ever thought about getting a 500 series rack? Would be a lot of fun (and cool content of course) to see/hear what you'd be in your rack. I know I love my 500 gear!

That 160A is pretty affordable on the used market, I just might grab the next one I see. It made that particular kick drum "Knock" pretty hard, Perfect for the O'l MPC. Thanks for tinkering with it in real time for us.

Very well said about the "tape era". I too have found some old recordings and like man.. sure I can make better "sounding" stuff now but just the raw emotion in the performances are just rare these days. I remember the 4track cassette days. That's when I started

I have very good soldering skills but I just don't have the time to make my own cables I would like to, because just like Renne said some of these cables you pay for them and now you have to go track down with an issue was I actually thought the issue was my Mackie board but turns out it was the cables so I wind up buying almost $200 worth of brand new one and a brand new 16 channel snake replacing all the cables in my studio.
