Finding Calcite, Druzy Quartz and Dolomite at a Road Cut with Wright Rocks!!
Переглядів 1,1 тис.28 днів тому
Hey guys!! On Saturday, April 20th, my buddy Chris and I visited a new road cut off the southwest MO and northwest AR border. We had a lot of fun finding quite a bit of new (to us) material. Purple calcite?? I had never heard of it...but I found some! In this video I show how I break some pieces out of the rock wall, and show what some of them look like after they get cleaned up. I'll be back a...

Hey guys! This is a different video, and unfortunately I have no footage of my digging experience there. So sorry about that!! BUT, I do have plenty of Before/After videos so you can see what the crystals look like when they're covered in the mud, and what the clay looks like from the shale matrix at Pine Ridge Crystals. I do have some footage of the eclipse, but my iPhone wasn't picking it up ...

Hey guys! On March 14th, a group of us went to the Wegner Crystal Mine to do their phantom dig. In this video are a few highlights from our trip, from my perspective, and a few of my finds as well. That way you can get an idea of what to expect out of this location from an average guy on a Thursday afternoon dig. There needs to be a 10 person minimum for this dig, and reservations are required....

Hey guys! On Saturday, March 2nd, I had the pleasure of visiting the I Me Mine located in Jessieville, Arkansas. This is a brand new mine that will be opening to the public very soon. I had an excellent time and this was my first time getting to meet the owner, Mr. Blake Barnett. In this video I tried to show what tailings look like, and also what working a couple of different exposed veins wil...

Hey guys! A few weeks ago, my wife and I had the opportunity to dig at the Flash Mountain Crystal Mine, located in North Little Rock, AR. We had a great time exploring the mountain, and trying a few spots to dig at. We walked away with so many beautiful pieces, and in this video are just a few of them. I used my usual format for this video...a short preview of my finds as a preview of the piece...
Exploring the Split Rock Pullout in Wyoming!

Hey guys! Almost all of my wife's family live in Washington state, and we live in Arkansas. We make the drive to the PNW every couple of years, and we always go through Casper to see my sister-in-law. We usually try to swing by the Split Rock pullout to stretch our legs for a bit. It's a wonderful area to let the kids (and dad) play for a couple of hours in a natural setting and escape being in...

Your genuine i love u n ur channel God bless u too
I notice some folks have bags to put their crystal finds in and some use buckets. What is your recommendation? Also been watching other videos and see all kinds of different tool folks are using. Which tools seem to be best for the digs.
I really like how you show your find and then insert a clip of it all cleaned up. And the tips/tricks to how you mine/dig for your crystals. I’ll be at Wegner Mine June 8 for my first ever dig and I’m so looking forward to it. Thank you for a great video!
Daaaanngg Joe, those are beautiful
Where abouts is that? Side note, I've been wanting to send pics of some of the chunkers I pulled out of Pine Ridge with my daughter. Thanks again for the hint to head that way. We were there on April 10th, I saw yoy were there for the Eclipse, I'm sure that was fantastic. We dug with James on a day where he had to almost constantly pump the pit, it was pretty silly but an amazing memory! Thanks again for your humble work!
Those are pretty interesting, looks quite similar to some of the hematite coated stuff from down at Graves Mountain, really cool find though
I was thinking the same thing, actually!! I still haven’t made it down there yet, it an hoping to in the upcoming couple of years.
The spring & fall digs seem to be getting bigger every time, it’s definitely a good time no matter what you find, but the parking situation is getting pretty crazy
Beautiful! I'm going there soon!!
Wonderful! Tell Blake I said hello!!
My family is here now, we didn’t find near what you got. I found a couple of good clear ones but mostly all shards or super tiny points. We really can’t haul one of those big ones in our van. Let alone getting one to it.
I work in Joplin and now i want to ditch work and go find a road cut of my own. Beautiful stuff
This was south of Joplin, but there’s supposed to be a lot of great calcite/druzy/sphalerite/dolomite up around the Joplin area, even better than what I have in this video. This place is a solid half an hour closer to me (one way) than the Joplin area, so I stick with this area for a quick trip. Also, I haven’t explored the Joplin area too much so I would need to research and try to prospect a place or two.
@@joedadbod8450 I've been around rock quarries my entire life. I'm just starting to look around for rocks besides what I carried home from work in my pockets. I'll keep an eye around here. If I find anything good, I'll invite you. It will be a good trade to be able to learn.
Is this anywhere near Tahlequah?
Just north of there, actually!!
I don’t think I have been there in a solid two years now…
@@joedadbod8450 Oh kewl! We are rock hounding nuts, my kids and I have dug rocks from Colorado to Virginia. I make jewelry and would love to find my own gems to fix up :D
Beautiful
You failed to mention what state you’re in.
Arkansas!! 👍
That piece with the mountain range is my favorite.😊😮
I hunt for calsite crystals quite often, and I have found a boat load of really nice pieces. Once you know what you're looking for, they pop out like golden eggs.😊😊😊 I have some that are almost seen through. I have some that are blue on the inside. I have some that are the size of grapefruits, baseball, and golf balls.😊
Great finds, my friend!
I hope we find even better stuff this weekend!!
Amazing finds!❤
I want to come play in the dirt! I just recently went to arkansas, my whole trip was sidelined with the eclipse, that i did not plan for. I hope to come there again, but it is a long journey from California!
Is this still available
🤩🥰🤩
I was just there 4 days ago and we didn't find hardly anything. They even told us they brought up new stuff the day before but upon digging around that wasn't the case. Cuz all the piles had previous digging in them and no fresh stuff for at least a week or two. Very disappointing!
THOSE SPECIMENS ARE AMAAAAAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! GREAT VIDEO TOO!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤
Thank you so much!!!
Hello, I can't seem to find I Me Mine on Google maps.
It’s so new it doesn’t have an actual address yet!! Look for the Home Plate Cafe in Jessieville, AR. It’s a few minutes north of that on some of those gravel roads. Maybe ten-ish minutes from Ron Coleman’s? That’s because of driving slower on the gravel roads.
@@joedadbod8450 thanks for the info. I'm not going until next May, but your videos are really great and make me more excited to go there.
Wow! Beautiful plates!
Amazing video!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you, my friend!!
Great finds. Do you have an address to the I me mine? Do they have a tailing pile that you can dig or is it in the main pit?
Hello! They don't have a physical address just yet, but if you find the Home Plate Cafe in Jessieville on Google Maps, the mine is a few minutes north of there on some of those gravel roads. Yes, they have a tailings only dig available from there. Check out the FB page, some people have been pulling out some excellent pieces from the tailings area!!
The ones at 23:04 and 23:37 with the botryoidal formations are awesome. Lots of cool coatings on the stuff from there too, the black and yellow is really neat.
I really like the diversity in my finds from there! I think the coatings can really add to the uniqueness of the pieces. Some of them I clean, some of them I leave as-is. Looking forward to digging with you this Saturday!!
Nice video. I love collecting pyrite in North Texas.
What a great road cut, it makes me miss seeing limestone
Omg that's a mega win of a find you got there!!! So fab🤍🤍🤍
Thank you!!
This mine back in the day produced some very beautiful water clear crystals. In 2019/2020 they were still commercially mining and there were good tailings to be found. My son even found and opened a small pocket ( on the side top part of the pit with some very iron cover small palm sized gem quality beauties. I had to soak them in acid for days but guess the iron gave them that extra protection. You really needed a good eye to find the tailings due to the grey clay and slate on the ground. I am surprised you found 2 pieces. That said they have not been mining for several years . Meaning no more real tailings, very slippery walking on the slate in that pit. I went back I believe around 2 years ago and was very upset as he was staying open to collect fees for nothing. More upsetting it is far drive unless one is staying in mount Ida, then still half hour drive. Coming from Canada every day is precious. We ended up getting in a few hours at Wegners mine but would have used the full day to go to twin creek or Avant instead. I posting this for your viewers that want to make the trip to hot springs to let them know there are many day mines (also some new ones opening) and to warn them of this reality of this mine not worth the precious day.
Please, shine some uv light on those crystals. I have a feeling some of them are fluorescent.
I know!! I really need to get a UV light. It would be fun to take it out with me when I go hounding too! Thanks for watching!! 👍
I am blown away by how many colors of calcite were in that one vein! Then you just kept pulling out all kind of beautiful crystals! Wow! 🤯 ❤
I know, right!?! I definitely want to go back and explore the area some more. Thanks so much again for watching and commenting. 👍😊
That might not be purple calcite that might be fluorite which forms around calcite
I have wondered…it was all in the same spot, two to three inches from each other, so I just assumed it was all calcite. I would love to know what some of those green spots are, some trapped under the calcite and in between the dolomite matrix. Really neat and interesting to me!! Thanks again!!
Great video Joe! " the stones will cry out His glory "
Amen!! I think of that all the time when I am out hounding. I always give praise so they don’t have to take my place. 🤣
Amazing video!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you, my friend!! Hope you and your family are doing well!!
All of these fossils are so COMMON you can find them on just about every river and creek in ohio,I know THE BEST SPOT for finding trilobites at Cesar's creek I find them everywhere. INTACT
Yes, I love that you can find them all over in that area! I now live in Arkansas, and you can't find the fossils like that over here, mainly a lot of crinoids and such. It's a different matrix over here as well. I would love to know where at Caesar's Creek you find the intact trilobites!!! I have only ever found a couple there, along that long wall by the spillway area and they have parking on either side of the road. If you don't mind sharing, I would greatly appreciate it! I will be coming back to OH around the 4th of July, and want to do some more hounding for fossils when I get there.
ABSOLUTELY AMAAAAAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!!! THOSE CRYSTALS ARE LIKE HUGE TEXTBOOKS OF MINERALOGY AND CRYSTALLOGRAPHY
Thanks so much!! One of these days I'll get a UV light so I can see if they fluoresce at all. I think that would be really neat if they did!
Awesome finds!
Thank you!!
Those crystals are really just amazing 🤩. Looking at the geometry of crystals makes me think that only God would be able to make such a magnificent masterpiece. There’s a mathematical precision and artistic form all at once. Truly amazing.
I agree wholeheartedly! I try to praise Him as often as I can when I am out rockhounding!! As neat as those rocks are, the One who made them is even neater still…”there is no rock like our God.” (1 Samuel 2:2)
❤take me there!
I’m not sure that is worthy, to my opinion they are not enough good size of crystals. A lot of junk pieces more than good. Just opinion! Sorry.
We went today, its unfortunate that our experience was nothing like this. They had us at the very top and the digging was no where near the same. Super disappointing. We probably wont make time to ever go back there. BUT we definitely enjoyed watching the video of your experience!
Holy snickerdoodles that's beautiful 😍!!! Great job!!
Beautiful 😍
