I create short (yet detailed!), high-quality (sometimes!) reviews of new video game releases. Specifically, I unpack fifteen "micro-metrics" (from "Plot" to "Sound") to determine a game's aggregate MEGA score. Hence the channel's name: MEGA the micro! Oh, and you can call me Scope.
NEW ARC LINE – A Complex, Strange, and Funny Fantasy/Steampunk cRPG | Early Access Review + Scores
New Arc Line is a turn-based cRPG that's heavy on story and light on making much sense. But that's okay, because its colorful characters, committed voice acting, and engaging combat system remind me of Divinity: Original Sin, and any game that does that is probably worth your time.
As always, I hope you enjoy this short, spoiler-free review :)

ANIMA FLUX - An Addicting (and Weird) Metroidvania | Review + Scores

When it comes to combat, level design, and visuals, Anima Flux-a new couch co-op (with a single-player option) Metroidvania game-holds its own compared to fellow genre peers. In other arguably less important areas, however, it's a little lacking. Still, I think it's worth a go if you can get it around $15 to $20 USD. REALM OF INK - A Delightful Hades Clone | Early Access Review + Scores

Perhaps "Hades reskin" would be more accurate, as Realm of Ink certainly has its own sense of self. Still, with this many similarities to one of the most successful games to come out in the last 10 years (and one of my personal favorites to boot), Realm of Ink makes it hard to not draw comparisons to rogue-lite supergiant Hades. But! Does the tried and true formula translate well from the under...
FROSTPUNK 2 - Bigger is Better (and Worse) | Quick Review + Scores

Frostpunk 2 stops short of being the genre changer that was its predecessor. And, while it adequately expands upon its prequel's core mechanisms in understandable ways, I pity the players that go in expecting to recapture the first title’s intimate brutality. Nonetheless, I enjoyed Frostpunk 2 for what it is: a sequel! It’s bigger, it’s more complex, and for its AA level of production I think i...

PIONEERS OF PAGONIA - Not Very Satisfying (Yet) | Early Access Review
This looks EXTREMELY interesting
Got the game, even though the genre isn't my favorite, it was a blast to play. Art and music brought the stuff together
The greatest terrible game I have ever spent hours and hours. The graphics are a little rough and still game play but a better jetpack than starfield. It’s fun as hell your loot goblin will be on overload.
Magical steampunk crpg reminds me of Arcanum! And looks like it's following it's legacy of jank too. I'll certainly be keeping the game on my watchlist for release
Yes, a lot of Arcanum overlaps! I was surprised while researching this game to discover just how numerous and enthusiastic the Arcanum fanbase still is despite the game's age. Hopefully, New Arc Line will scratch the itch.
@@MEGAthemicro Somebody said Arcanum?! One of my most dearest cRPGs ever. While this game is pretty close to it (as with Sovereign Syndicate, which scratched that itch), Arcanum was...unique, moody and solid as dwarven craft. Nothing has beaten it so far.
I like Elex 2 never played 1 tho reminds me of fallout 3 and NV in Some ways
Yeah, ELEX definitely has some classic Bethesda RPG flavor running through it.
most of the negatives look fixable by release. im always up for an original independent RPG, as long as the jank isn't too severe.
Agreed, most of my gripes are fairly small and (hopefully) easily remedied. It's more or less what you want to see on Day 1 of Early Access.
This review is, from my perspective, perfect. You hit the nail on the head with the bland story, sadly they did literally nothing with the oil and went all out political story, which is bad af since they promoted oil so much. Also the mega city clutter comment feels pretty on point, I do not want to look at my city up close, because all that awaits me is clipping district buildings into streets, each other, and special buildings- But the sound is great. The exploration feels left in the dust tho, as there are no beautiful pictures anymore when you find something, just a little header up top, that repeats more than in FP1 endless. It's also weird how tech works in FP2, apparently the random automatons running around don't cost steamcores and hothouses require fertile soil now. There s nothing new steampnuk or even dieselpunk since it includes oil now. Overall I'd say they had a lot of potential and wasted it on a generic bland but for a few hours acceptable city builder.
Glad you liked the review! And thanks for your detailed thoughts, they all resonate with me, especially your observation about how the giant automatons just kinda pop up and have no bearing on your steamcores - seems like the devs just threw them in because they looked cool, not because they made any sense.
@@MEGAthemicro Biggest flaw i'd say, 0 oil tech/tech tree. (No composites and coal to oil don't count lol)
i think this games terrible really
If you're not looking for RTS nostalgia, Godsworn probably won't have much to offer you.
You can't have a game about a train without a train in it. That's not legal.
Get me an expert on train law, stat!
There is a train in the game, but you can only enter it as you depart. Pretty sure we will get a train scenario with a playable interior next. I am a train law expert.
can anyone tell me what happened to FANGS? did they stop producing the game? i can't find any news or updates about it.
Yes, it was abandoned last year. No recent tweets from the dev/publisher: x.com/hiddenleafgames?lang=en.
fun only 2-3 times, win to easy, factions almost to same, alliance op, ai kill yourself, you just stand, build infrastructure and wait, no campain, only 1 quest per fraction.
I don't disagree with your take. I am curious, however, if you played around with the settings at all to make the experience feel different each time? I was able to squeeze some more mileage out of the game that way.
saw the game, wishlisted the game, got the game, played the game for an hr then got bored and put it down for months, picked it back up just now to immediately remember why i put it down. got frustrated with the game so made a note list of all my scrambled thoughts while playing it. this review hits everything of my thoughts exactly. its a very surface level game and im frustrated that it was marketed to me as more of a platformer puzzle. there is hardly anything worth calling a platformer and nothings a puzzle. its a cute game but not worth $25, its a snooze fest personally. wish i saw your review here first! would have saved me 25$ and 2 hrs lol.
Agreed, it's both literally and figuratively surface level in all aspects. I really can't believe they're STILL charging $25 for it. Just reading your comment and thinking about this game again made me angry again lol.
what factions are here? that's the most important. If there only 2-3 factions? that will make this game 2/10 not matter how good gameplay it will - it will end on one-shot play and be boring after 2 full matches.
There are three playable factions, but they each have nice mechanical and unit variety. Given their depth, I be surprised if anyone gets bored of them after only a couple of matches.
@@MEGAthemicro can you make a video about tthat? from that video of that review i know barely nothing about units and factions. Which is most important <for me ofc> in this type of the game.
Great review!
Thank you very much! :)
$22 bucks at full release.
Wow, great sale! Though I imagine some people who purchased in EA expecting a price INCREASE at 1.0 are a bit peeved at the moment.
thank you for this review, i will play this game, when i'll buy a computer! but, wanna play now, maybe u know how? i heard about cloud gaming, people on forums written that with it i can play pc games on my smartphone. i would be so thanful if u make a review about that, especially about boosteroid, 'cause they have servers near me, so "on paper" i can play better with it. i will waiting for u review!
You're welcome, and thank you for watching it! I have heard plenty about cloud gaming services like Boosteroid, but I've never personally tried one. As ZEPHON is a smaller release, I'd be surprised to see it appear on any such cloud service, but I'll let you know if I see otherwise.
Compare it to Gladius?
Similar gameplay mechanics (same heavy emphasis on tactical combat), near-identical UI, slightly better graphics, arguably better soundtrack. It really boils down to whether you liked Gladius and want to see its gameplay implemented in a new world.
I don't necessarily see the idea of visitors to your curia as necessarily all that bad when they tell you of far-off secrets of a hidden world that you'll never really experience. In essence it sums up precisely that you are not an adventurer, you are not a troubled scholar on the fringes of acceptable social graces, you are not a rogue living on the edges of society as a permanent exile on the threshold of unknown shores. You now belong to one. As you ask people for help, that in turn become your livelihood and means to be a purveyor and preserver of knowledge--Not its source, and hopefully never its end. I don't think you could truly encapsulate the idea of being 'that librarian' while also having a pseudo minigame of traipsing elsewhere. You feel like one of those monks off medieval Ireland that was basically responsible for managing to keep 'the lore' of Latin works and old philosophers alive against all manner of raiders, banditry, and the corrosive touch of time itself. Of whom without them spending literally their entire lives in their cloisters constantly copying and re-copying works of antiquity at places like Skellig Michael, history itself would have been very different. It's kind of overwhelming already for a new player that doesn't know the system as well, and adding a new mini-system on top that players might feel they 'need to do' I think would have impacted game feel. You have the Hush House, you have books, you have stuff you can craft, and skills and esoteric lore to unlock as to maximize your utility to an esoteric occult society dedicated to invisible arts of arcane and transcendental worlds. in those regards I think it captured that sense of being quite well. While I personally don't think it needed some automatic journal, as it's a game focussed on the invisible arts and it would be kind of crutch just being able to look up in a within-game clickable bunch of trees to remember how you did something... But I totally agree about the UI. Also the size of the world map ... that you inevitably have to take a calming open-form RPG and spend so much time then scrolling all about the place, necessarily having to zoom in and out to feather over stuff. Cultist simulator, while daunting and clustered with information late-game, had largely all the information you needed and the stuff you needed to do right in front of you. Did the bridge need to be that long? Did the village so spread out? The beach so big? And now with the expansion, this entirely new thing all out on the outer edge of the screen. It doesn't help that so many rooms feel less like milestones each packed with new possible combinations, and more like game padding that 'demands your attention' in a way that I don't think helps with the idea of trying to capture a 'calm game of being a librarian'. Librarians and archivists shouldn't feel the desperate need to also triple as occult society event organizers, cartographers, and renovators. I don't necessarily disagree with the idea of 'building out the Hush House' ... but I think I would have preferred more a focus on the Hush House and being a librarian and archivist and less having to zoo over the village, while taking strolls on the beach, and strolling into the woods, while having dinner at the inn, while weeding the courtyards.
Wow, nice comment! As you've eloquently noted, the gameplay does a great job of realizing the developer's vision of lonely, occult librarian life. Is it what I personally wanted from this game? Not entirely, no, but I can still respect the commitment.
I think this is the best review system I have ever seen.
Awesome, glad you like it! More reviews to come :)
*Addictive*
An antiquated distinction.
i like the idea of these types games but when it comes to late game i tend to get bogged down in managing multiple cities and units. What is the endgame management like? i imagine there are a lot of units to move around but whats your perspective?
It depends on player count, but I frequently found myself increasing animation times to lightning speeds around midgame to avoid tedious turns. Things thin out a bit in late midgame after the smaller factions are eliminated. Then all heck breaks loose again at Turn 100 :)
@@MEGAthemicro thanks you! maybe ill wait a bit to buy it but i really like the idea and setting of this game (also never played gladius)
Cool
any single player campaign or story ?
No formal campaign and only some light story elements. Each faction leader has a handful of lore bits that pop up throughout the game and ask the player to make a choice.
There does seem to be an over arching story though because when you win a game something very weird happens.
Do they try to resell to us a Gladius?
Yes and no. Functionally, ZEPHON plays almost exactly like Gladius. However, the lore, factions, narrative elements, and worldbuilding are all fresh. If you're still hungry for a tactical 4X after Gladius, ZEPHON will satisfy.
Feeling like league of legends will release a game mode like this and will kill the game within 2 months.
The truth is even sadder: the devs already abandoned this game earlier this year and it's no longer playable :/
Great someone watched Water world.
It's essential viewing!
Two words Gaijin entertainment
awsome game runs at an astonishing 4 frames per second with no to almost no lag
The sequel I wanted but never thought I’d get.
Been looking forward to this ever since it was announced, but I'm a bit bummed they didn't add more diplomacy or non-combat options. I mean, Gladius is fun as heck and all with the constant warfare and the publisher is well known for their war simulators, but it would be fun with another layer of gameplay to interact with. How's the perfomance or turn times? Some games in this genre towards the end can take a really long time between turns. Also, how's the AI when it comes to certain unit spam? In Gladius I wish I had a option to disable flying units because holy heck the AI makes waaaay too many of them and they're such a hassle to deal with.
Agreed, the game is currently short a few non-combat features. As for performance, I think the game is generally stable. A single crash and some small bugs over 20 hours. The turn time can get a little long in the tooth starting around late mid-game. However, you can turn up animation speeds to comically fast levels, making AI turns fly by. I felt like I saw a decent variety of enemies during my time with the game. Some faction feel a bit spammy, but nothing unplayable.
Any Controller support or steam deck support ?, and thx btw nice review :)
Thanks, glad you liked it! And no controller/Steam Deck support, sorry :(
How is it possible that the review didn't mention WH40k Gladius? This looks like re-skin of Gladius in every aspect.
You're absolutely right. Since their deal with games workshop has concluded they simply slapped another coat of paint on Gladius. Which explains the 40€ price-tag, since they nickel and dime their customers for DLC-factions or DLC-features in Gladius for an average of about 11,50 per pack (not including soundtrack and wallpapers). You can spend 180,66€ on a 40,86€ game, but that is just in character for Slitherine.
Yeah, this is par for the course for Proxy Studios. They actually came out with a game in 2013 called Pandora: First Contact that looks more or less like Gladius, and now ZEPHON is a current-gen version of that formula. I ended up not mentioning it because the games are all too far spaced out to call a true cash grab.
You are absolutely right, this looks like Gladius
So those are actual battleships with legs and also alligator mouths?
Yes and they fucking rule.
That's not its mouth, that's it's ass! Surprise!!!
To me, they looked like those stick-insects UNTIL they fired that broadside salvo, and I was like WTF.
I hadn't heard of this game. It looks fun. Ah, this is made by the devs who made Gladius (Warhammer 40,000)... and it's not out yet (it's coming out Nov. 8). I like almost all the worn and battered futuristic art style presented here. It's nice. How were you able to play this early? Is this a sponsored video? What are the gameplay options/modes? You mention light narratives. Does this mean there is a campaign/story for each "hero"/faction? Are you able to play them all? Is there a (user) modding framework/workshop? Thanks for putting this on my radar. All the best.
Hi! Thanks for the questions. I emailed the publisher last month and requested a review key. I received one with no strings attached, played the game, and created this video. No exchange of money. I'd say that's how the process works for 99% of my content. There's currently one gameplay mode: standard 4X conquest. However, there are multiple paths to victory. As for the hero narratives, they consist of a handful of pop up prompts throughout the game's duration. I wouldn't say they amount to a "story" or "plot" (which is why that micrometric was unscored at the end of my review), but they do provide some light world building fun. You can play as all heroes from the game's outset. Let me know if you have any other questions!
How's the music?
A definite high point! Good instrumental variety and typically fits the current gameplay well. There isn't a ton of original tracks, so it can grow a tad repetitive after a while, but never to the point it started to annoy.
Two things: 1. I thought the video was loaded in 720p until I checked... yikes! 2. It looks like The Movies, Rome Total War, and The Sims had a baby, but taught it to communicate via a botched version of Ferengi.
Believe it or not, I've seen some Steam comments saying the game "looks gorgeous." Legit had to go back in and recheck my settings to make sure I wasn't missing something critical. Nope!
I have played the demo and couldn't get enough of it. My only regret is, that the game isn't getting the spotlight it rightfully deserves.
Maybe that will change with the 1.0 release in a couple weeks!
@MEGAthemicro I hope you're right. But at the same time I'm afraid that starting doing a promo for your game on the day it releases is way too late.
The grading rubric and timeframe of this video made me sub, thanks for existing and soothing my AUDHD brain :)
Yay :D so glad you like the format. More reviews to come!

Well put :)
You used the term boomer in one sentence and then Leroy Jenkins in the next. Get off the fence, and then get off my lawn.
Okay, boomer (shooter) 😛
I'm surprised you didn't compare this game with Caesar III. It looks like they tried to copy that game and modernise it. Most of what you talked about is taken from that game.
Yes, I originally had a section planned where I was going to compare Citadelum to older titles (including Caesar 3/4). Ended up scrapping it because I didn't feel like it added much to the review, but maybe I should've kept it 🤔
Great review, very high quality and structure, earned a sub here. Keep up the good work man!
Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel :)
Talos Principle and the Council are two games that my mind keeps floating back to, years and years later. Truly intriguing, engaging, and thought-provoking-some of my favorite games of all time. The added feature of text-based adventure games in TP2 might just send me over the edge...💘
Oh, if TP1 is one of your favorites you pretty much have to give TP2 a try! On of my favorite sequels of all time :)
Solid review, cheers for not letting me spend my money just for a wish to experience a past joy again.
Thanks, glad you found the review useful (and sorry to not have better news).
@@MEGAthemicro Surely, no harm, saved me a waste so it's all good. As well, I found your channel really helpful and fun to watch due to this review. Any chance you can do one on Cataclismo? all reviews in UA-cam currently doesn't seem to be honest, high praise and no cons at all. Thing is, the game looks nice but early access with high price tag. so makes it less easy to pick up unless indeed can deliver.
Found your review from steam and glad I checked out the video. I'm a big fan of the city builder genre and didn't want to jump into this game without a more honest review. After seeing the dev response to your review that the gladiator management gameplay "does not fit with Citadelum" I would disagree! That kind of system would mesh perfectly with this game.
Completely agreed-everything I've seen of "Gladiators of Citadelum" suggests it would fit perfectly in the base game as a nice little mini-game distraction from the city builder elements.
so you said they still have that gladiator management game coming out at some point?
Yes, it's scheduled to come out later this year. No trailer yet.
Hey, your video style is amazing! Glad to have found you! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much! Glad you like the format. More reviews to come :)
That water looks delicious though. That's what I imagine when people talk about "sparkling water." It's also nice to see them giving you the convenience of buying one game for the price of two games.
Counting down the days until LaCroix releases its "Aqueduct Nectar" flavor.
Ooof, sounds like a half-baked game kicking down the actual interesting part of it into a separate release later on. I'm not sure why, but the Gods actually being there just reminded me of those old FaceBook games in the early 2010s.
It looks exactly like 2010 Facebook games
I almost added a section to this review where I put Citadelum side-by-side with old city builders, as it really does look like games that came out 15 years ago.
Reminds me of the classic Zeus Master of Olympus game
