Lifting the Veil on Composition: Daniel Sprick
For the past 4 years, Master Artist Daniel Sprick has become my mentor and dear friend. To be frank, Dan has changed my life entirely. During this short time, he has done everything in his power to set me on the a path to succeed. I am a part of a small group of extremely dedicated painters who are working in the studio every single day. When a problem arises in our works in progress, It is not infrequent for Dan to take the time out of his day to demonstrate a concept. In this rare occasion, Dan very generously allowed me to mic him up and record one of these incredible demos. I hope you can see the unique opportunity that this is, and wish for your work to grow as a result of studying this amazing lecture.

In this video, we go over a very simple procedure on how to paint a white rose from life or a photograph. This process can be applied to all subject matter, and I have the reference for this and more videos available on patreon. Thank you so much, Tanner and Daniel. So generous of you to share this brilliant content.
Williamsburg white is also my favorite. Bout the cadmium’s and cobalts - don’t worry too much, the heavy metals hardly get absorbed through the skin, just don’t lick your fingers 😉
A cool video could be to demonstate mixing some of the colours you make often
Great idea! It may be a while until I can make this. In the meantime, let me know if you'd be interested in joining my online lessons. Fridays 9-12 mtn std time
Such a treasure, this! Thank you so much from the other side of the world. I hope to one day meet you people:)
Thank you very much for this review! Can you provide a link/ product name for the Mat board cutter you use to cut the panels?
So can oiling out be a synonym for varnishing? I thought you were essentially varnishing this so as to make it all a similar texture/shine without blotches. Would love to know. Also would you say that to strip down the medium situation that I could just go with liquin original and gambsol and call it good...like for everything, washing brushes, varnishing, thinning/mixing paints and oiling out? I'm just trying to simplify with a priority of fast drying. Thanks!
Sunflower oil works just great too and is cheap
I wish so much ya all weren’t talking in the background. Disrupting his thoughts.
Absolutely great!! Thanks so much for creating and sharing this Tanner. Mr. Sprick is incredibly generous with his experiences and knowledge. Wonderful that his composition ideas speak to the pictoral design and psychological components. Very interesting and inspiring!
Superbly compelling video on one of the most endlessly fascinating and mysterious topics. (But I can't lie, the ultra-sensitive mic made it difficult to listen to this all in one go.)
Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed!
Would it be possible to mention what books he is showing the students?
Yes, I will get back to you on this.
Thanks a lot Tanner , i will relish (savor?)this video. Daniel Sprick ‘s paintings …i have no words…🙏🏼
It's truly my pleasure. Dan is unbelievable and so generous. Stay tuned for more...
Wow, thanks for this! Maybe when the composition is good one doesn't notice the composition? That's what I go by because the other stuff confuses me. :)
@johndemmer3496 it's truly my pleasure. Dan has completely changed my perspective on composition. I've rewashed this lecture so many times on my own, and it's really helped. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I am so grateful to Dan for allowing me to share this with you!
Great video
Thanks! I bet you will find my most recent video even more valuable.
I've never yet found a Naples Yellow - other than the very expensive genuine pigment - which doesn't contain Zinc White: have you found one, and if so - who makes it? I think Michael Harding (you showed his King's Blue) is phasing out Zinc - presumably he'll replace it in the King's Blue.
Painting on the right is a distraction; please remove.
I like everything about Liquin except the gloss. Is there any material you'd recommend to avoid a gloss?
You could try oleoresgel by rublev/natural pigments.
Cool house, beautiful painting! 😊
Thank you!!
I spray clear shellac between layers. It doesn't yellow, and has the added benefit of stabilizing the oil layer and prevents cracking, like adding rebar to concrete
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's magic. INCREDIBLE....
Is this artist a 'gay person? He has an odd way of speaking.
Thank you for your videos and the information you share. Can I use liquin on all layers? thanks for your answer.
@aideshellstrom9155 yes. You can use liquin in every layer as long as the layer before the one you are applying also contains liquin.
@@tannersteedart 😇🎨🥰
@@tannersteedart I bought before watching your video Liquid Fine Detail W&N. My question is: Can Liquid Fine Detail W&N work as original liquid? Thanks for answering me and for your videos.
What are your thoughts on Prussian Blue?
Thank you so much for this video. But now my question is; Can you oil out on an oil painting that has already been varnished with gamblin gamvar?
@creativemargie1 no, you need to remove the varnish to continue using oil.
Liquin is shit only idiots can use this shit for painting.
Great work
All my old paintings on masonite have ruined corners and they cannot be transfered to another surface.
That's unfortunate.
For me using retouching varnish gives too glossy effect
How would you compare naples yellow, with titanium white unbleached?
so beautiful
It's always a joy to see your video
For archival I go for GAC100 as a sealer and cradled “Russian” Baltic Birch. Is it worth it? Check back with me in 200 years…
Hey thank you for taking the time to make this video! So i oil paint outdoors- i never spilt it before but i spilt some on som stone and also my hands... How do i properly remove it from my hands and from the ground? Did i jusy destroy myself lol
Hi, maybe it is too late but, I just want to point out that those masks are pretty bad to protect your lungs. You better buy a respirator mask for this job. Thanks for the video
Maybe a little bit bigger brush?
Thanks for this! Great info and we’ll explained 🎉
Love your video. If I have multiple layers in one painting, Do I must use liquid original for all my layers? Can I only use liquin original only at the first layer? Thank you.
its all fun and games until you try to paint a sky without having the blue u need, and you have the one that cant copy it.
This was what I needed. Thx a lot.
Using the water-mixable oils I can confirm that my 37ml cadmium yellow almost lasted for 2x titianium white 200ml tubes. Same for ultramarine blue, cadmium red went a bit faster. I also like raw and burnt umber. Raw is nice for its greenish tint.
There goes the brush
My english ıs not enough. You might had explained too. But i have a simple question. Can i use linseed oil and liquin together or not ? I want to give my oil pai tings deep effect , glossy, and glazing. I hope used correct words and thats what i meaned. Thank you
I think I understand. I would advize to use linseed over liquin. Never liquin over linseed.
Liquin is an Alternative to Linseed Oil Turpentine Combination.
U said alizerin crimson but prior not to get that one
Get alizarin permanent, not alizarin crimson. The key is to get the permanent version.
my fav. too ❤
Liquin is a fantastic medium although it used to irritate my throat so I stopped using it.
