Brilliant! Fantastic explanations! Greatly appreciated!
That was a fantastic description of how everything works! Thank you for articulating it so well!!!!!!!
You're welcome. Thanks for the comment.
@@johnkwc , a quick question if I may ask: What level of leg abduction are you using or do you use any? Thank you very much.
This looks like it is the core concept of Chum Kiu. Thank you for sharing this John. 🙏
Really great instructions on connecting the body structure and expanding. Your guidance has really helped me figure this out.
You're welcome Dustin.
I appreciate how simply you explain the CST Wing Chun method and where to focus on relaxing. Great Video.
Very good
Amazing much respect, !! Thank you John ..
Thank you.
@@johnkwc 🙏
Point of contact kinetic energy transfer POCKET?
Explaining the internal movement was very good.
More contact More control
A true understanding 👍🏻 Great lesson John. When grasping these movements and questioning “what did I just do ?” The answer is all to often confused by the minimal amount of effort required to execute the movement properly. Confusing 😂. Thanks JK 👍🏻
This is very good wing chun.
I very much like what you are doing. Do you sell any training videos, out side what we can see on You tube? I would like to know more... Thank you.
Hi Curtis...I have no other videos other than those on UA-cam. However, feel free to video Whatsapp or Facebook message me. My whatsapp is 852 5483 7826. Also, you are always welcome to come train in Hong Kong.
@@johnkwc Thank you for the offer. But I honestly don't see myself going to Hong Kong. But having an open dialog with you would be nice. I've seen a number of your You-Tube videos today. I can honestly say, I am impressed with what I see.(and hear). Question? are you roiling your hips up and forward in this video? it looks natural, but something is different in your base, that I just cant see. ;-) Thank you for your reply. Have a great day. C.A.G.
@@curtisgeorge5280 Not rolling the hips. Just maintaining a connection between the head and feet and moving as one unit.
Amazing thank you
Good stuff 👏 👍🏾

John Kaufman is the real deal, with more than 40 years of experience - very impressive to touch hands with. Thanks for sharing!
So great to see this Sifu! It looks like you are doing well! I'm sorry I missed you while you were in NYC. Hope you come back soon!
Thank you. It would be good to see you again.
What's your opinion on the tom myers deep front line.. Is that the engine we use in wing chun. Along with ligaments stretch reflex...i would love to discuss this with u.. is chi just the ability to control your fascias Consciously
Is it fascia manipulation
Also, what's the science beyond this? Surely you're doing more than relaxation?
It is not a "floppy" relaxation. It is a complete release/opening ("sung") of all body parts and muscles, then the internal expanding occurs in all directions simultaneously so, in that condition, when you move your center, power is expressed as the body's weight is involved an any/all movement.
In CST how are you able to strike with incredible strength? Is it to do with the glutes and fascia?
No, it's to do with connecting the whole body and moving the center of mass.
I hear you using the terms Sung and Peng like they do in Tai Chi. Based on what you're saying, it sounds the same too. Would you cultivate these things in the same way too? By zhan zhuang standing practice (among other things)?
Yes, you can cultivate these principles by standing practice as well as other methods. There are many boats to cross the river.
@@johnkwc - I've heard from the mindful wing chun side that the "snake engine" is sort of different from the power that tai chi generates. I'd love to hear you speak on this topic if you ever want to make some videos just talking about your experiences and perspective
Hello John. It is nice to see and hear you even though it's just through a UA-cam video. I hope you and the family are doing well. I really enjoyed the video.
Thank you Jesus. I miss our time together in New York in the past, and hope you and your wife are well. Feel free to get in touch on Facetime or whatsapp.
Mr. Kaufman you are one of my favorite Marital Artists of all time. I have so much respect and admiration for you and your CST teaching methods. Even though I have never been lucky enough to meet you in person, after watching and studying your UA-cam videos countless times over the years you have opened my eyes to what Wing Chun can and should be. I have tried learning the CST method online at Mindful Wing Chun run by Nima King, who I also admire greatly, but since I have no training partners nor friends interested in WC near me to practice with, I have been limited to only solo training making progress or feedback very difficult. Thank you so much for sharing this instructional gem with us, and I am so glad to see you posting videos again.
Thank you for your kind words and appreciation. I am very pleased if you found any of this helpful.
Your still alive and teaching great news please share more!
Yes, I'm still alive as far as I know! I go back to Hong Kong where I hae been living and teaching wing chun for the past 12 years. Come train in Hong Kong. Anyone can reach me by email: john.kaufman21@gmail.com.
This makes me feel very nostalgic Sifu John! How much longer are you in NYC? …and when will you be coming back?
Hi Kyle...great to hear from you! I'll be in NYC until Sunday, Sept. 30.
He got the juice! lol!
Hahaha...thanks Damian!
Hi John. Great to watch this again. Are you left handed ?
Yes.
@@johnkwc love your stuff. Thank you 🙏
This goes far beyond wing Chun, using internal conditioning is the key to Akido, daito Ryu, aki jujitsu, systema ect.
Amazing video!!! Thnx for your work. In wing chun the peng jin is called wan yuen lik
Got heaps from this. Thank you.
You're welcome.
Yes people cannot see it. U have to feel it.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge very kind of you Sifu Kaufman hope your doing well sir!
I've been doing Kung fu for 5 years trying to crack internal release. That was the best explanation I have heard. Thank you! 🙏
You're welcome. Glad you found it helpful.
I've watched this so many times, and still don't get it, but it's awesome! Wish I could meet you, but I'm in Tennessee. Not Hong Kong, or wherever you are lol.
nemesis9022...I'll do the best I can to explain this. My understanding and thoughts about what is actually occuring here has evolved since I made this video years ago. My current thoughts are that what is actually happening here is once the body is connected (one part moves, all parts move) even a very small motion can disrupt the structure of the opponent. The talk about it coming from the head (back of the brain) is simply to not concentrate on any one body part's motion (e.g. the hand), but to allow the body to remain whole so that the weight of the entire body (even in a small motion) is involved. When done at speed, the disruption effect (what in the video I called, "transmission of eneergy") is greater. Hope this helps.
@@johnkwc thanks for the response, and yes that does help. There is a Chu Shong Tin lineage school in my area taught by Sifu Trevor Young. Just trying to save the money up to go there. Good wing Chun, and cheers.
Need a better microphone dude but digging it
Your sui nim tau movements and shapes are so recognisable from our lineage. Refreshing to watch this form performed by an exponent who understands the movements and the relaxed manner in which they are performed
I would so like to meet you someday if you are ever in BC. You have a tone of voice and manner I could listen to for a very long time.
Thank you Joe. It would be my pleasure to meet you. You are always welcome to come train with me in Hong Kong. Also, I sometimes come to New York City to teach wing chun. If you email me at john.kaufman21@gmail.com I will notify you the next time I come to the U.S.
@@johnkwc I'm in British Columbia Canada...Hong Kong is closer than New York. I live up in the mountains, been practicing for many years but have lots to learn. If nothing else, maybe we could meet for a zoom call sometime.
@@JoeyOnly OK...cool. We can Facetime if you like.
@@johnkwc I'll send you an e-mail, let's make an interview video if you are into it, I'd love to hear history on Chu Shon Tin and things like that as well. My interests go beyond hand techniques haha. When my kids are a little older I will bring them to Hong Kong for a WC pilgrimage, it's a life goal. Besides meeting people like you, I need to go to the Athletic Association and see where my first sifu's gung fu came from.
@@JoeyOnly ...OK...send me an email when you want and we can do an interview. Who was your first sifu?
John i like your videos but you should use microphones otherwise it is difficult to hear what you and your partners say.
Really good John. And 11 years ago. Wow. I dare say you’ve come a long way since then. I love this art. Incredibly fascinating and many many discoveries still to find. 👍🏻
Thanks John 🙏. The legacy of my grandmaster lives on through the incredible skills of teachers like yourself and many many others. Keep it up man
Fantastic John. Please stop by. I’d love an opportunity to show you my Viper Jeet Kune Do set up. It’s all BIK ENERGY smash fest. 😂💯💥👌
Destroy the structure. He knows his shit.
They’re just being really careful and respectful to each other. They’re mild older guys. Experts. This is a gem.
I like it. I use it. My way is to strike. Just basically place my fingers in the eye. This usually produces a reaction. Any Bending, reaching across centerline, any broken structure n boom. It’s full on assault time. Fabulous principles sifu
If you think about how small IP Man was and how big his first student, Leung Sheung, who was, himself a renown martial artist, he had to have more than physical prowess to become as successful as he was, especially in those times, when you had to let your "hands" talk, this makes sense.
John how are you? it's been a long time this is Ed... I'm the guy that works for your nephew Rob doing the tiles on your floor and the blue stone in your dojo still looks good
Hi Edro...thanks for getting in touch. I'm still living in Hong Kong teaching wing chun.
Hi John, I have really been enjoying your videos and have learned a lot. Thank you for taking the time to post them! My best friend stays in Atlanta GA and I wanted to ask you, if you know of anyone in that area who understands internal concepts like you do? Hope you are doing well <3
Hi Sascha....thank you for your comment. I'm sorry, I do not know anyone in Atlanta. There may be someone, I just don't know.
@@johnkwc Thank you for your reply John, I will keep searching. Might I ask where you reside / teach at the moment? I would love to visit and train with you at some point. I am studying gunsmithing in Austria at the moment and my life has been heavily focused on that for the past 3 years...and I have one more year left. But once I am done, I would love to focus more on martial arts again. I met some of Adam Mizners students in London 3 years ago, as they worked on my spine. My little sister actually dated his brother for a few years and I also would like to train more Tai Chi with them... However I realized what you are describing comes more naturally to me. Im not exactly sure if I am doing the "cst method" correctly...but I am doing ..something to generate power. My background was initially San Shou / Wushu and thats also how my back was injured. I show your videos to everyone interested in martial arts here :)

This Presentation is for Advanced students. Beginners may think they are using over powering But their structures are purely strong, here and there they are testing their structures. If they do this to beginners, beginners will be pushed away, not able to control opponents or merely structures broken down. It’s because structure of opponents are too strong, there need to change angle of force going in. Even one changes angle and opponent catches up, because their structure is strong both side, it looks like tensed. This and beginners using too much muscles from upper arms can not be treated as the same. If one of practitioners above do this with beginner thinking they are doing correct chi sao because they are more flawless, it’s dead wrong. In tai chi, push hands, advanced practitioners hands are extremely heavy if they want them to be and it can be soft based on what’s intention for training,
