How to Develop a Plyometrics Program
After the positive feedback from our last deep-dive video into Workout Programming, we have decided to continue publishing our sessions recorded straight from our staff development sessions at Viking Performance Training!
In this video our topic is Plyometric Exercise Progression - just like the long-format educational piece on designing workout programs for performance, this video is not about specific exercises but rather about choosing how to progress plyometric exercises themselves for maximum effectiveness.
A good workout program for athletes is much more than just sets, reps, exercise, and working hard.
This seems obvious, but the number of coaches and athletes who just focus on that last part - working hard - is still the majority of the coaching trenches and it's costing athletes way too much progress.
To also work smart, planning the right progressions across the long-term for athletes is absolutely key for success.
🔥🔥🔥Interested in having our professional coaching staff create an individualized, sport-specific or goal-specific plan just for you? Send us a message at this link and we promise to reply back within 24 hours!

Class is in session, and get ready for a whole semester's worth shoved into a 55-minute talk! We take staff development very seriously at Viking Performance Training, and this video is from a recent staff development session on Workout Programming. A good workout program for athletes is much more than just sets, reps, exercise, and working hard. This seems obvious, but the number of coaches and...

These could also make as character stances for your tank build in an RPG. 😂
Thank you, very useful
This Viking has a backyard full of toys!! Rock on Brother thanks for the video. I was just at Lowes looking at sledgehammers. I didn't pull the trigger, now I wish I did. I'll be back tomorrow to buy one after looking at this video!
Bro love what your doing , its criminal that this video only has 58 views.Keep doing what your doing❤
Yikes!! I struggle with planks so much... new goal: add weights to planks!!
Something most from the younger generations doesn't understand. There's a difference between facing conflicts, being smart enough to avoid it, and don't do anything for fear of conflicts.
Call me stupid but I'm going to go try these with my 8 pound splitting maul. Wish me luck
4 years.late but thanks. For non tire swing exercises
This guy style and movements looks sloppy...goin to hurt yourself...😂😂😂
As someone who gets easily bored with traditional exercises, this looks awesome. Keep me on my toes, if I don't do it right, hammer will punish me..😅
That’s one of the most fun ways to look at it for sure haha!
Great stuff and excellent lead in for anyone looking to train outside the mainstream. I've been using sledge hammers for a couple of decades and the majority of "Iron Junkies" can't hang with me.
It’s amazing how “functional” fitness like hammers improves your overall fitness, while more “specific” training like barbells can leave so many gaps when having to exert yourself in the real world!
I’m wondering (?) … If you could do this by yourself, accomplishing the same goals, by utilizing Resistance Bands?
You can! Sorry for the late response, but yes you can, it’s something we’ve had some of our wrestlers do in their programs. As long as you can hit different angles, and the bands are secure, you can get the same effect by walking far enough away and holding the tension. Just be careful if you do, snapping bands are no one’s friend 😂. Another option for doing them alone is with a wall and something for padding, even a sweatshirt or something. Put your head on the padded wall first at the angle you want, then walk your feet out. The farther the feet, the steeper the angle and the greater the pressure. Happy training!
Did martial arts all my life I love lifting but god damn I wanna train with weapons...that's my excuse...that's why I'm here watching this dope video
Check out Shovelglove!
Spider man pushups are good too, it a crawl/push up thanks for the video gonna use them in my workouts
No tire!!!! Ty!
This is awesome and you're a beast dude! 💪
*promosm*
Good 1
Thanks I have the sledge hammer but don't have a tire yet.
Great video sir .. frosty morning for a garden workout here in Dublin. Then chop some logs.
I was hoping for some tire combat
I appreciate you sharing the ‘semantics’ because that’s how my brain works. Awesome info, I just took an intro college course in an hour 🎉
Awesome, I’m so glad it’s was helpful! There’s a lot about training that is really just understanding perspectives and spectrums about the desired end result and how to get there.
In a roundabout way I started to research hammer workouts after following Tank Tolman on facebook. Some hammers his facebook wall advertises are understandably priced outside some folk's budget given fine craftsmanship those "Mjolnir" style exercise hammers that are out there, hand forged. So I meandered over to Amazon and Lowe's sites and nicely priced retail. Further search led to you. I've subscribed to your UA-cam channel! Newbie question as an older athlete in his 50s = what weight of sledge hammer are you using? Do you recommend against sledge hammer exercises for someone my age? Thank you. ~ Eric
Really useful. Thanks
This is f-ing great! I have been just-below-the-surface aware of this, and actively manage it for myself. I had never heard anyone talk about it though. Loved it!
What size would you recomend for a relitvley fit 220lb man. Thanks alot
dette er den beste videoen for hammertrening!
Amazing I wouldn't have thought of half of these thank you.
Check out Mark Wildman to see how to exercise with a steel mace
All are great movements. Why not turn the hammer head sideways (across), one runs less of a risk of getting bonked by the hammer head?
Pantera!
great moves, thanks
Fake weights clearly
maybe maybe not
I’ve lifted heavy weights and seen lots of heavy lifting and this is so obviously fake weights. The bar doesn’t bend and look at how easily he corrects the imbalance. Can’t do that with over 400 lbs
These are not fake weights I go to this gym
@@josephperkins4857In my power lifting days I squatted 700lbs and the bar bent. I'm 6'7 so the bar probably looked more bent because of it but every bar would bend
Started doing with with an 8 lbs sledgehammer, after doing no exercise for a few years… take your time fellas, the pain is not worth the ego’s pride…
My watch fits now after several months and I made great gains doing these, pull ups and push ups
Nice , I have a 25lb Odin Sledgehammer and 35 plates that I will eventually attach to them . This a great video for other workout’s to do thanks
Man, that'll be a great workout with that much weight and the added leverage!
These are great .. I think 🤔. How about the camera like 100 feet nearer please dude ?!!
I appreciate that advice, this was an early attempt so going to get better at camera work!
Top video Geezer 👊🏾
Appreciate it
Need more of these 😏
great video. exactly what I was looking for. thanks bro
Glad to hear it!
Great video. I'm definitely going to work some of these moves into my training :)
Great, that's awesome!
I saw this title as soon as I was wondering if there was any content on this haha
Love the conversation.
Genius
Promo-SM 💪
I especially like the multiple angles you give. Clearly a lot of thought went into this video.
How heavy is it? Or how heavy it should be?
I was looking for this... The other day i saw a guy with a macebell but ican't afford a macebell do i thought sbout a sledge hammer snd here i got this video... Thanks i think tomorrow iam gonna buy a hammer
💪
