How to Develop a Plyometrics Program
After the positive feedback from our last deep-dive video into Workout Programming, we have decided to continue publishing our sessions recorded straight from our staff development sessions at Viking Performance Training!
In this video our topic is Plyometric Exercise Progression - just like the long-format educational piece on designing workout programs for performance, this video is not about specific exercises but rather about choosing how to progress plyometric exercises themselves for maximum effectiveness.
A good workout program for athletes is much more than just sets, reps, exercise, and working hard.
This seems obvious, but the number of coaches and athletes who just focus on that last part - working hard - is still the majority of the coaching trenches and it's costing athletes way too much progress.
To also work smart, planning the right progressions across the long-term for athletes is absolutely key for success.
🔥🔥🔥Interested in having our professional coaching staff create an individualized, sport-specific or goal-specific plan just for you? Send us a message at this link and we promise to reply back within 24 hours!

Class is in session, and get ready for a whole semester's worth shoved into a 55-minute talk! We take staff development very seriously at Viking Performance Training, and this video is from a recent staff development session on Workout Programming. This Viking has a backyard full of toys!! Rock on Brother thanks for the video. I was just at Lowes looking at sledgehammers. I didn't pull the trigger, now I wish I did. I'll be back tomorrow to buy one after looking at this video!

    Something most from the younger generations doesn't understand. There's a difference between facing conflicts, being smart enough to avoid it, and don't do anything for fear of conflicts.

    Great stuff and excellent lead in for anyone looking to train outside the mainstream. I've been using sledge hammers for a couple of decades and the majority of "Iron Junkies" can't hang with me.

      It’s amazing how “functional” fitness like hammers improves your overall fitness, while more “specific” training like barbells can leave so many gaps when having to exert yourself in the real world!

    I’m wondering (?) … If you could do this by yourself, accomplishing the same goals, by utilizing Resistance Bands?

    • @VikingPerformanceTraining
      @VikingPerformanceTraining 2 місяці тому

      You can! Sorry for the late response, but yes you can, it’s something we’ve had some of our wrestlers do in their programs. As long as you can hit different angles, and the bands are secure, you can get the same effect by walking far enough away and holding the tension. Just be careful if you do, snapping bands are no one’s friend 😂. Another option for doing them alone is with a wall and something for padding, even a sweatshirt or something. Put your head on the padded wall first at the angle you want, then walk your feet out. The farther the feet, the steeper the angle and the greater the pressure. Happy training!

      Awesome, I’m so glad it’s was helpful! There’s a lot about training that is really just understanding perspectives and spectrums about the desired end result and how to get there.

    In a roundabout way I started to research hammer workouts after following Tank Tolman on facebook. Some hammers his facebook wall advertises are understandably priced outside some folk's budget given fine craftsmanship those "Mjolnir" style exercise hammers that are out there, hand forged. So I meandered over to Amazon and Lowe's sites and nicely priced retail. Further search led to you. I've subscribed to your UA-cam channel! Newbie question as an older athlete in his 50s = what weight of sledge hammer are you using? Do you recommend against sledge hammer exercises for someone my age? Thank you. ~ Eric

      I’ve lifted heavy weights and seen lots of heavy lifting and this is so obviously fake weights. The bar doesn’t bend and look at how easily he corrects the imbalance. Can’t do that with over 400 lbs
