Hello! Wondering if you had any comment on line trace and bullet drop. I've heard that projectiles at high speed can be unreliable with physics sim and line trace would be guaranteed, basically. With that in mind, I was thinking of trying to line trace with some kind of deltatime doodad to fake velocity/bullet drop over time. I was going to do this on tick, but not sure if there is a better way? Later I was going to explore penetration, which looks 'easy' with line trace too. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

is it just me or does this happen to anyone else, when the client pick ups the rifle it can spawn infinite copies of the rifle when holding f. it doesn't do it with the pistol and the server cant do it either

@4:51 when you change target preview mesh, your models matched height and size. Mine didn't do that. Using f_med_nrw_preview, my metahuman remains shorter than SKM_Quinn! I've had to force Target Mesh Scale to 1.148. Using UE 5.4. In the end it came out wrong so I just used the auto retarget feature in 5.4 and got better results.

hey, another question. I have followed exactly as you but at 1 hour 35 min, where we set up the weapon switch, it doesnt replicate properly for me somewhy. Can using an actor instead of component cause issues related to this?

hey i just finished the tutorial. and its great everything works as expected and is set up well to be modular and customizable. i cant wait until the next tutorial. i hope we go in to actual gunplay XD would be awesome to have both a projectile weapon and a line trace weapon example XD. i just have an error happening on my end with the first-person anims. for some reason i cant get it to work i get this error (Blueprint Runtime Error: "Accessed None trying to read property FirstPersonCharacter". Node: Set Current Weapon INT Graph: EventGraph Function: Execute Ubergraph First Person Anim BP Blueprint: FirstPerson_AnimBP) but i kept going and the 3dperson anims works fine no problems there. it looks like it cant access the int that i set up even tho i did the exact same thing. it redirects me to this part 1:12:25. idk real what iv done wrong. do bear in mind i don't use metahuman arms. i just use the default Manny arms again many thanks for making these tutorials it helps a lot to us new guys to unreal especially cuz most tutes are outdated,
ok never mind i fixed it it was because i didn't notice the section where you cast it to the first person character, probably something i missed in a previous tutorial. but saw a glimpse of it on the top left at 1:11:58. and it removed the error messages :) ok cool im already learning how to fix stuff now
I've implemented basic crouching in my game but the can't figure out how to smoothly blend the camera with the crouch animation. With no additional code, the crouch anim doesn't affect the camera position however looking down takes the camera down to where it would be if looking down while crouched. I tried overriding the camera manager and doing a lerped offset with the out view target's location, however then the camera jumps on pressing crouch and when looking down it goes way further than the floor. Just was doing a basic lerp and adding the offset, works perfectly in third person. Any suggestions? I'm guessing I may have to do something with the transform of the virtual bone but not completely sure.
Hey man nice video! Unfortunately I am having a problem with my character. He is moving away from the camera but only the animation itself, when I walk forward the animation goes away from the camera but when I stop or jump or do anything else the character comes back right the way to the camera. I already redone all the tutorial but still having the same issue. I am at U5.4. Please heeelp
It's a root motion issue. @11:50 did you change the translation mode on the root to globally scaled?

@@MizzoFrizzo I fixed! Apparently I was not using the auto retarget correctly. Instead of duplicate the RTG I just retarget the assets and animations from the ABP_Quinn with auto generated and then it worked fine. Thanks man!

hey im stuck at 48:01 for some reason when i try connect the get pickup class to the ROS_Drop Weapon's Weapon to drop it says its incompatible. when i hover over it, BP Pickup Master Class Reference is not compatible with BP Weapon pickup Master Class Reference.
same here. i think it might be a UE5.4 thing
The error is telling you exactly what your problem is. Find your ROS_Drop Weapon and click on it, then over in the details panel change the Weapon To Drop input type to BP Weapon Pickup Master -> class reference.
Sometimes there may be a bug where you have to delete the node and call it again.
@@MizzoFrizzo hey iv tried deleting it and doing the step again like you described but it still doesn't let me drop the pickup class to the ROS Drop Weapon's weapon to drop it just says BP Pickup Master Class Reference is not compatible with BP Weapon pickup Master Class Reference.
@@omaralhassan2300 Okay, so you've set the variable type incorrectly inside your Weapon Comp Master. Go in there and change Pickup Class to Weapon Pickup Master class reference.

Mizzo at 4:25 idk if you went back you didn't connect the -- and set ammo of weapon types so when you switch weapons or pick it up it sets it to 0 so Everyone make sure to do this and thanks for an amazing video series
I thiiiink I noticed that I missed ot later on, but you are absolutely right, the output pins of the -- nodes are supposed to be connected to the input pins on the set nodes. Whoops!
weird in 5.4 if i don't multiply vertical sensitivity by 0.25 then it works just fine
Yeah they seem to have changed some math inside the add input nodes just to annoy me.
@@MizzoFrizzo nope my bad, not working, vertical sensitivity has no effect at all no matter what i set it to. meaning my hands are moving with the camera always at same speed and at a too big of an angle even if I change the clamp min and max. like has no effect. I'll rewatch here and let you know if i find something. please do the same :) (Unreal 5.4 might be the culprit here i will try not to use the deprecated inputs...)
what i have done so far, hope i won't regret it in future videos. vertical sensitivity -> map range unclamped in range between 0 and 1, out 0 and 9. multiplied -1. the negative in pitch clamp(float) min the positive in max, this works. and of course uncheck pawn control rotation. now i am not a genius and quite the noob so if there is a better way...
then in the ABP no need of multiply. even better i can keep it between -18 and 18 and set it default to 0.5

You can also edit your metahuman in the metahuman creator tab, it is the MHC button.
I just wanna say i went from knowing nothing about Unreal, coding, or anything with regard to creating games. Now that I've watched your True First Person Shooter tutorial series I have progressed to a fully fleshed out weapon system, animations, and (the most important) understanding the logic and being able to modify the code to suite my needs. I have taken paid courses and tried other UA-camrs (many of which work well for simple things) but none of them are meant to scale to an entire game. Your tutorials are the best on the platform for UE beginners and will allow so many awesome games to be made in the future. Thanks for all the hard work and i can't wait for more! PS: Are there any projects you are working on as you make these videos? I would gladly support any game / content you were making in the future.

But I can tell you that everything gets better and I've even forgiven you people. I've been going through it for the past couple of years and game development has really helped me. Your tutorials were no where close to the first I've gone through but are absolutely the first to make things make sense. So the odd 'super thanks' is an absolute bargain for the value.
