I had never heard of you , I have been playing for many years on and off. As to K545 some of your bass treatments I found enlightening. I look forward to watching and learning from you!😊
Great tips!😊
What about the pianos? You did something in the first part but there's no contrast in the second one (compass 10)
A beautiful, intelligent female professor pianist explaining music composition observations with "novice" student performers is so lovely. ❤❤❤❤❤ Its because having a beautiful instructor is so nerve racking. If she were physically "normal" or not so attractive, students tend to do much better 😅
I loved your recommendation for students who aren't ready for Debussy and will be ordering the Les Petites Impressions book! Do you have something that you have found is great for students who love the Chopin sound but aren't quite ready?
That's a great question! Martha Mier and Catherine Rollin both write a lot of great things in a neo-Romantic style so I'd look up their publications on Alfred's website and see what looks appealing. Timothy Brown too has some similar pieces.
Good advice. I can sight read and play without ever looking at my hands but lag when it comes to rhythm. 🙂🍃
Zelf vind ik deze reeds goed omdat ze echt rekening houden met je vordering, niveau waar je zit. En vooral belangrijk voor mij het zijn originele stukken.
@@MotjeSoete65 Agreed. However, I have other books series that fit the same criteria that I like better. ua-cam.com/video/P5-dHh33ZrI/v-deo.htmlsi=6IriF_7TbXxUg1-J

Brilliant!
Thank you for watching!
would it still be musical to choose a slower tempo?
@@gregosterster A little bit slower than I demonstrated would be ok. However, in order to get the benefit of this etude, a decently fast performance tempo is necessary.
@@JannaWilliamson thank you

This is awesome!! Thank you so much. What level piece would you say this is?
Completely depends on the leveling system. You could call it early intermediate. Jane Magrath has it at her level 4. Many different exam syllabi would give it a different level number, such as RCM level 3.
Wow! This is a VERY good explanation. I like how you included the student performance and how you pointed out the rough parts of the piece.
Thank you for watching!
I don't play the piano, but I was curious about it. By the way, you have such a friendly, welcoming, and warm heart. Your graceful and expressive body language is beautiful, and I envy your students for having such a brilliant teacher. You also have a wonderful smile.
Thank you for your kind comment!
I am not teacher , I am student
And what is "this piece"?
Dance in Bulgarian Rhythm from Mikrokosmos
Do you only use interleaved practice after you learn a piece
No, it works very well for the learning process too! 5-7 minutes of work on a new piece, followed by working on a different piece, followed by going back to that new piece, etc etc. It allows the brain to process in the background.
Please do a tutorial of you playing this with the camera above the keyboard so I can see your hands it would really help me it's a very short piece by Mozart only about 3 minutes one of my favorites!!! ua-cam.com/video/swv-3emSlBY/v-deo.htmlsi=6Pi2fC_lrSxQEfVA
Thank you! I'm working on this piece, and your lecture helped a lot to improve my playing!
HoTT piano teacher 🤤
This prelude is the first piece I ever learned. 😊 Of course, not purely through conventional means by the sheet. The thing is: it's incredibly simple when using the pedal, buuut~ gets a little difficult keeping the consistently without it. It's a really delicate piece.
Thank you so much. As an older adult student, I’m working on this piece and your videos are a TREMENDOUS help. I have made every mistake you pointed out that students can make ( plus some unique ones of my own). Ok back to the piano!
It is in Suzuki book 3 also (I believe).

Marvellous. Spirited, intelligent and understanding guidance for the beginner (me!)
What a lovely piece. Thank you!
Do more videos of Mozart ...he composed uplifting sonatas like I do ! 😊

Hands up (don't run) best advice depending on which city you're in LOL
Thank you! It helps me so much to know how to verbalize what my fingers are doing in a helpful way
Why are you talking so much
Lovely and kind! Thank you. Very much. But that mordent with line through it, which you played in the beginning, is a "lower mordent" GFG. The upper mordent wouldn't have the line and would be GAG
As long as the clarity of the polyphony stays intact, no problem for me.
Thank you a lot!!❤
Absolutely ❤my teacher started me off on Patting my laps with alternating hands before the metronome was introduced it helped a lot 😊 great advice indeed
I used to be able to play this... very ham-handedly, and way too fast, but I could get through it.
It's cool how this piece begins with that single A note... and I get chills at the 19th measure. It sounds like it's from another planet. 🛸👽
Thank you! Are you still using interleaved practice today? 2 years later..
Hi! Could you help me with the turns in Clementi's sonatina op 36. no 4. second movement? I learned a long time ago to play the embellishments as you described, starting on the note above. So for the turn above the A, I would play B-A-G-A. However, I've watched many videos where people play it starting on the note, so A-B-A-G-A. What is your opinion on this? Is it different for thrills and turns? Thank you in advance!
Turns are different than trills. I think that particular example could go either way. If you like it starting on the principle note, keep it that way!
I've made the switch from memorizing first to sight-reading. YES, memorization should happen right away. This activates the ear and analysis immediately, whereas sight-reading is mostly muscle memory, which is less effective. It engages the brain to a higher degree and repertoire is learned more quickly. My two cents.
I picked up my first Piano Adventures Book A, as well as the Pre-time Piano Christmas book, both from Faber for my pre-/very early reader. 😊 For my more advanced beginner student, I found an Alfred Level 2 Christmas book, an old Schaum level 3 Christmas book, and Bastien arrangements of Nutcracker. The Bastien is still maybe a little high for her, but the Funtime Classics book has an arrangement of the Nutcracker she's enjoying working on as a bit of a challenge piece.
Because in my piano book it says it’s by bach
Sorry to say your book is incorrect! However, Bach did include it in his Notebook for his wife, Anna Magdalena, hence the confusion.
I thought this was by Bach 😂
Nope
Thanks for such a useful and enjoyable video. Much appreciated!
Thank you for watching! More info here: www.jannawilliamson.com/blog/how-to-teach-reverie-by-debussy
Bach’s keyboard instruments all had the same design, where you press the key for a note, and release the key to stop the note. His music was composed with this in mind, and typically has too many different notes to leave any place for slurring the notes together. The sustain pedal of the piano was invented during a time when music was very different from Bach’s music and such a device would be useful. I have never found the need to use sustain while playing Bach, as he didn’t write for it.
Yes, but we play a modern piano, which I believe gives us license to make adjustments. Your point about "too many different notes to leave any place for slurring notes together" does not hold in this prelude since it's homophonic.
I had hopes that she would just play...
You're a gifted teacher, thank you for all the resources and ideas!
