Kawasaki ZX12R First Impressions.
Have managed to get hold of a 2005 ZX12R that was a none runner and had not been started for 2 1/2 years it is now ready to rock and roll. This video shows me talking about the bike and also a ride I had on it today. You will notice I cant keep smiling whilst talking about the bike. That tells you how I feel about it.

Kawasaki ZX12R. On the home straight! I hope
Переглядів 290Місяць тому
Well, the end is in sight. I have done a multitude of small jobs, from replacing damaged captive nuts on the fairing mounts (not the rubber encapsulated ones) which required heating the brackets and then mounting new nuts, to changing brake pads, removing stickers (takes so dam long) replacing bolts cleaning parts etc etc. It goes to have the FI issue fixed in a couple of days and the last part...
Kawasaki ZX12R I am getting there slowly!
Переглядів 142Місяць тому
So, as always the list of things to do keeps getting bigger but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Wheels have been painted and decals added, lots of small but time consuming jobs completed. Parts arriving and other bits coming back from the painter and Hydro dipping shop.
Kawasaki ZX12R after first wash after getting it running.

After the first wash and good look I was able to see potential cosmetic issues. There were a few. As it turned out there was the usual wrong and seized fasteners, cracks in fairings, missing items and a particular Kawasaki favorite, corroded wheels and brake calipers. Oh well, I expected it.
Kawasaki ZX 12R. First Start after several years

I suspect that having been stationary for years the seal hardened up and when we pushed it to the truck when I purchased it the seals let go. The injectors were all cleaned, old fuel removed and fuel system cleaned out, oil and coolant changed, filters cleaned. The most nervous mome...

After many years I have got a ZX12R. As there are only 3 or 4 in the whole country finding one has taken many years. It needs a little TLC which has started already. Thanks to Phillip for selling me his machine and all the extras he provided. These include a hardback service manual, a "Silver Book" and many spare parts.
Kawasaki ZXR 750 H1 First ride around the bends!
Переглядів 7473 місяці тому
At last! I managed to get the ZXR on to the type of roads it was made for. It has been quite a long journey for this bike but it was worthwhile. It was a learning experience for me as the bike handles so very differently from my normal bikes. The trip was 260km and when I got off the bike I felt fine, which surprised me. What the videos do not show well was the steep gradients on the route. On ...
Kawasaki ZZR 1100. To Rotate or Not to Rotate, That is the question!
Переглядів 8673 місяці тому
I get asked about rotating the concentric adjusters on the ZZR 1100. It is a very personal decision. There is only one benefit and several downsides. I do rotate the adjusters because I value the much better turn in and feeling in the corners but that is weighed against things that make life with the bike a little harder. One thing I failed to mention in the video is that once the adjusters are...
Kawasaki ZXR 750 H1 "Final Test Run"

So, 4 times I have believed the ZXR was finished. 4 times it broke down on me. It was, yet again, a fueling issue. This time I sent it off to the Carb specialist. After stripping down the carbs and rebuilding the only issue was a kink in a fuel line that appeared to be nothing but the internal diameter of the hose was restricted. No idea when it happened but it has probably been like it for yea...

I've learnt my lesson, I never run E10 (or any ethanol for that matter) in any of my bikes. Also, on the Keihin carbs there are two seals at every needle and seat, one is the needle tip and the other is around the seat which requires the seat to be removed to access them. It was the latter that caught me out and ive not had an issue in the decade since.

Hi mate. The Kawasaki Museum is large and interesting. The bike section is ok but should be bigger. Kobe itself is really nice. Great restaurants overlooking the sea and indeed the sea front itself is a nice place to be. Part of the sea front has been kept in the state it was after the Kobe Earthquake in 95 and it is a really an eye opener. In answer to your question, I would not go to Kobe just for the Kawasaki museum but as part of a trip to Kobe itself then it is worth visiting.

Nice! I just got the ZX-12R-A full power model just 2 weeks ago as well, it has the worst low-end torque out of the bikes I've owned (50cc,125cc,250cc,400cc) on top of the bike having a half burnt clutch made it harder to start from a stop but it's been the most fun to ride, the insane acceleration after I finally engage 1st gear is like an adrenaline shot! have fun and greetings from a Filipino (I'm in Japan though lol)

Hi, I am looking forward to getting it on the roads of Kaybiang. I am sure she is quick. I am used to the acceleration because I have the 14R as well. I just love these not electronic machines, just you and the bike. Bikes like the 12R are designed to thrive on high revs which is another thing I love. I dont really measure but I suppose its about 6-7 liters per 100km. I tend to use the gearbox and never sit in top gear so I probably get it up to 8 on occasion. It is less than my 12r and 14r. Bime like these are not really for fuel saving. I suppose a rider could get much better fuel consumption by sticking it in top gear and riding at 100kph but what is the point of having these bikes if a rider rides like that.

Gosh. In for a pound, in for a penny! There is another known issue with them: oil will wick up the wires leading to the rotor & coils causing a failure. It passes up between the copper wires and insulator. The Kawasaki HQ fix for this is a squirt of superglue! I thought i'd escaped this particular gremlin but it struck on a ride to Switzerland. A costly fault as i had to replace the rotor, coils and HD leads. This was the bike, as a long time fan of over 40 yrs, i wanted kawasaki to make, but throughout lifelong ownership it pains me to say of all the kawasakis i've owned [zeds, gpzs, zzrs] this model has been the least reliable. On a trip to Spain one year it just stopped & no one could figure out what it was. Barcelona kawasaki were worse than useless. The bike was AA'd back to the UK where it sat at the local dealership in Leicester for a few months. It was eventually sorted and came down to a cam position sensor: an easy fix as you can reach it through the fairing without removing anything [10 minute fix for a problem that lasted months]. It feels a lot more top heavy, with a higher centre of gravity than the zzrs. I found i had to ride for some time before 'getting into the groove'. Gorgeous looking machine [arguably the best of the bunch] with blistering performance to match -- i had my C3, unrestricted, off the clock at Monza, so 200 mph is a real possibility [PCR3, full titanium Akro, BMC filters]. Would love to share some shots as it too is in the best colour!

Thanks for the comments mate. I am aware of the electrical issue. It aopears to have been more of an issue with the A's than with the later B's. • @tenbear5
      @tenbear5 Місяць тому

@@MichaelZZRrider Yeah, i guess we all hoped that, but the reality is the electrics really aren't up to it. Perhaps it's because we've been forced to have DrLs [daylight running lights] with no effective lightswitch, i dunno... anyway, it's a proverbial pain and the Kawasaki fix is just daft. I was even considering getting the whole thing completely rewired [with a functioning light switch] but finding a competent electrical moto specialist is a problem, and the guy i did find was extortionate.

That road is one of the most dangerous roads. The video does not show it well but it is uphill, downhill. Off camber, covered in dust, gravel and mud. There is no room for error. I am on the right side of the road so not sure what you mean. Cows, monkees and multiple other wildlife just add to the fun. Indeed on that trip I went around the corner and there was a cow in the road. Add to all those things, brand new tyres, and never having written it around bends before meant things were taken at a moderate pace. Many of the bends are so sharp that 40kph is the maximum even if you are on an R6. Videos do not show what it is really like. They never do. The video is about the bike.

ahhhh…. was getting this in London traffic so fitted a manual switch to pull the fans in. The zx12r is worse in solid summer traffic (twin fans) so it was either fit a switch or avoid town.

Luckily it was just a wiring issue. In general I dont get any overheating issues. I did in the past but sorted out the whole system and all now good. Even in the summer here.

My height 158cm, rotate the adjuster will make me difficult to reach my foot to the ground. But handling is better by rotating the adjuster to higher the back of zzr

Your are correct mate. To do it or not depends a great deal on what is important to the rider.

I did it to mine after your advice. For a big heavy bruiser the handing definitely turns in better.

Indeed mate. However I always make sure that I don't rely on other vehicles to take avoiding action to prevent an accident. I can always see if the road is clear.

Love them all mate. However the 11 is special, the 14 is lunatic and the ZXR feels like a toy with ADHD. :-)
