Hi, my name is Beth! I think you should judge books by their covers. ✨
There. I said it.
Why? Because of that wonder you feel when you pick up a book. And the inner conflict when - after you’ve read it - you can’t quite let it go, eeeeven if it doesn’t quite measure up.
Graphic designers like me are hired to inspire those feels!
On my channel we’ll talk about books we decide are shelf-worthy, inside and out, and the ones you need to give a second chance.

If you ever have this problem, I hope this video gives you... hope! Early this summer, I had a booklice infestation in my house. Here are 2 things you need to know about me: 1. I own (and read) a lot of books. 2. I will obsessively research anything that gives me anxiety. Thankfully, based on my research, I started to try some different things, and some mysterious combination seemed to work. 0:...

📚🥳9 new releases I need to read #bookhaul #booktube #libraryhaul
I've been in a reading slump of sorts, but I did hit my reading goal for the year so I guess I can slack off now xD
Gaming, crafting, and shows are a nice way to wind out the year too!
I've given up for the rest of this year. Looking forward to next year!
What random factoid can I pin here for you? Um… We named our family sourdough starter Bob because of a character in one of the books in this video! 🍞
You were so eloquent with your review on Code Name Helene. 100% agree with your thoughts. Here’s to a better book on a future buddy read! 🙌🏼
Aw thank you! Yes, next year will be better 😂🙌🏼
Pretty sure I read the T. Kingfisher book. I've read several of hers and that one sounds familiar
A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking might be her first writing under the pseudonym T. Kingfisher, because she was venturing into more creepy stories and wanted to distinguish from her children’s literature audience 🥐🥖🧁
🔎
Nice reviews. Happy reading 😊
🙆🏻 Your turn! What are your first answers to these questions?
I wanna play too! My answers: 1. The children of the Forest (by Lisa something) 2. Chronicles of Narnia! 3. I don't really remember the title exactly but it was something like the the barrow? This was the first book I regret finishing. 4. Sitting on the front porch with my brothers as our mom read the Hobbit to us 5. gonna have to go with Howl's Moving Castle on this one ;) 6. I can't think of anything specific? 7. Tom Bombidil would be an awesome friend! 8. .... so many places... 9. I don't read much non-fiction but I liked the book about Dewey the Library Cat 10. Tolkien was famous for loving long walks in nature and his extensive knowledge. he would have been fun to hang out with for someone like me who loves nature too!
Great answers! Howl’s Moving Castle, what a surprise 😂
This is a great tag!
I did a 3-day central Indiana book Crawl in May. It was fun,but I prefer used books and it was mostly new only stores.
Wow 3 days sounds so fun! My favorite is when they have both used and new books-there’s something surprising every time I visit 🤗
This was so sweet to watch. I may need to get my Hubby to do this on my channel.
It was fun! I feel like it’s trickier for the reader because you have to nail down those favorites 😂
I added The Spellshop to by tbr!!!
So cozy!
Have you been successful in eradicating them? I’m currently dealing with the same thing (just starting the process) and have been doom scrolling Reddit threads before finding your video 😅 I’m moving to a new place soon and am super worried about bringing them with me accidentally. Have you thrown any books out in the process or are you trying to save all of them? Thanks for making this video on it xx
Hey Kelly! I’m so glad you found my video, and so sorry you’re having this problem too! I can say that yes, months later things are looking better. 🌵 The dehumidifier has been key, and I’ve had to be consistent when the humidity gets to 50%. Having a little humidistat on your shelf (about $5) will help you have peace of mind, because some dehumidifiers don’t have accurate humidistats built in. We keep the machine unplugged until the humidity is elevated, only plug it in and power on when the humidistat shows 50+ so our electric bill isn’t astronomical anymore 🤦🏻♀️ ☃️Make sure you give your books time to dry when you take them out of the freezer bags, and wipe off any condensation with a soft towel. 🗑️😩I did have to toss a few books (4-5?) that were sus when I first tackled the problem, because there was a lot of staining on the edges, and I knew it wouldn’t feel sure they were okay. I had still tried freezing them first, but they were older books. 📦 Because the bugs eat paper, if you need to store them in anything and keep them safe, I read that plastic is better than cardboard. 🙏🏼Please keep me posted on how it’s going, and I hope the move goes well!
Also! Some sort of desiccant pouches in the bins may help keep your books dry during the move - there’s a reason companies put them in things before shipping 😅We found some reusable microwaveable ones off Amazon that soldiers use to keep their gear dry. It’s also possible that your new place will have better humidity levels, or the weather changing will also be in your favor 🤗
Fun vlog! I’m intrigued by Daughter of the Forest.
Thanks Gloria! 🌲🌲🌲🦢
Looks like you got some good autumnal walks in during peak season!
Yes! I’m so thankful - I always get fomo for the fall leaves while they’re still around 😱
Happy Birthday!! 🎂 Oh as soon as you talk about the turn of the key I thought of Haunting of Bly Manor! Adapted from Turn of the Screw by Henry James? I love how much fall foliage you are still getting!! 🥹☺️🪵🍂🍁
Thanks Tania! Man… I still need to read The Turn of the Screw! But I’m betting Ware got some inspo or made some references to that story in her book🔑 Is that other one the same as The Haunting of Hill House? When I search Bly Manor, that one comes up. The fall is starting to go away, but I’m really happy to have grabbed some of it 🤗🍂
Such a beautiful selection! I loved "Daughter of the forest" that's inspired by he Irish folk tale "The Six Swans." I loved the elements of folklore, history and fantasy, the kyrical writing and deep emotional core. Hope you'll enjoy reading it. Happy lecture! 🍂
This book could reasonably be titled "Sense and Sensibility and Cavalry Charges"....
lol - you might be right, the miscommunication trope is strong with this one.
Amazing! Congrats.
Thank you! Cheers!
I love this idea. I hope your reading goes well.
Thank you!
Fun love the idea of a secret poll. Happy reading! 😊
I always love a good secret TBR! I need to try this out one day! Great choices for spooky month! 💛🎃🍂
It was fun! ☺️
I remeber reading the Seven Waters books. I feel like there were more then 3? I know I started right in the middle of the series with the seer of sevenwaters, then discovered I'd inadvertently spoiled myself of some of the plot lines. Such is life when you're a teenager reading only what the local library has to offer!
You’re right! I’m just reading the initial trilogy for starters: Daughter of the Forest, Son of the Shadows, and Child of the Prophecy. I think the first three are in the same timeline with the same focal characters, and then we have different family members and their descendants in the later books. Seer of Sevenwaters is book 5! Tiny pet peeve when books don’t have their number on the spine.🤌🏻
Whew, that's a lot to get through in a week. Good luck!
Thank you! It’s been going well so far! 💖
Hi, I’m a fan of the Russian literature and of course Tolstoy, with the War and Peace that I find fascinating. Pierre was the persone whom I was found on, so sweet, pure, and interested in his personality. I admit that I never finished the book, however I have started reading it like a 12 times and when I find myself between the battles I skip the reading. Am l missing important facts ? Anyway, I’m glad that I find you !!
Welcome Mitzie! Wow! You started the book 12 times! That’s quite the try! Having finished the book, I have some thoughts for you: First: there is no shame in skipping the battle scenes that appear more essay like in their content. A distinctive few of these scenes do feature the characters, and you can usually tell by the way in which it is written which kind of chapter you’re in. Second: I don’t find any problem with skipping the book and watching the mini series. I actually feel the drama was heightened, and the morals of the story were more visible in the adaptation. Read (or don’t read) in peace!
The little glimpse of your trip looked so lovely! I read God of the Woods as well and we totally landed on the same page about it. It makes me curious about her other books now.
Thanks Gloria! Yes! 👀 Long Bright River is a pretty popular next choice, but I like the synopsis of The Unseen World 📗
Survive the Night sounded like it was a lot of fun! Unfortunately, I didn't find out about it until it was already in full swing. I really liked Well of Ascension, but I also like political intrigue and I think that's why a lot of people *don't* like it. Almost everyone says Hero of Ages is their favorite, but I understand if you're not enjoying the series and don't want to continue.
I did finish the trilogy, and magic system and political intrigue were not the problem for me, those were actually my favorite parts. Just didn’t like the series. 🤷🏻♀️
I need to read the Amari books but the glitter would kill me! 😄
Maybe borrow the first one from the library and I’ll loan you the next 2 which are unsparklified 😂
Adding the doll makers and the moonlight market to my growing tbr. The challenge sounds so good, but I probably would have NOT survived 😂😂 Also how you got this video down to 25 mins is impressive. I literally have a wrap up that's over an hour. Just freaking out over here. Of course I read like a few pages from one of the books and shouldn't have but still I can never get this videos down LOL
I think you might have survived too, it was a lot more about interpreting clues and bouncing at the right time 😂 Thank you! Scripting helps (that’s my iPad there in frame), and I also speed up to 103 before I start rough cuts. True story: I deleted 1 rant book and didn’t include 3 others.
\o/
Hello, Welcome to Glorious Tuga sounds fun. I actually looked it up to see if it was a real island. I have the second in the Sarah Pearse books to read and also the second Amari. Can the Shady Hollows book be read out of sequence? Sounds good for this time of the year.
Yay! 🦊Ooh that’s a good question! There’s a main character relationship that changes in Shady Hollow, so you might be spoiled for that if you read out of order, and there might be brief references to cases solved prior 🤔
@@covergirlbooks I will read in order then.
Thank you for participating in Survive The Night. ❤🎉
oh i love your vibe!! 💖 i've had the first shady hollow book on my shelf for a bit that i've been saving for autumn. and i'm so excited for a sorceress comes to call, i really enjoyed nettle & bone, it had such a fairy tale feel to it ☺
That’s so nice of you!! Likewise! Taking A Sorceress Comes to Call on vacation for sure ✅ It’s short, and I think I’m going to eat that one up!
This is a freaking nightmare! Sorry you had to go through this! 😱😨
Right?! I like my nature to stay outside… But on the upside… content?
I suppose the upside for when all this is over is.. bonus shelving for more books?
Surprisingly that didn’t happen - the new shelf fit as many books as the built ins did 😂 …but I still love my new shelf!
Oh what a bummer that you had to deal with all that! I had a pet lice infestation a few years back and that was a nightmare so I get it. We tried ALL the things and ended up having to rip carpet out cuz it was so bad. Lessons learned though!
Thank you! Ugh I’m so sorry! We don’t even have carpet, I didn’t even think of that. Oy.
I hope it all works out for you. Your books are treasures and it’s completely normal to be stressed and upset over the bugs. And it’s not gross if you compare to dogs and kitties getting fleas. It’s just something that needs to be resolved.
Hi Karen! Thanks! My last piece of the video was filmed just this week, so I can safely say things are doing well 🤓 no bugs seen since early July.
All the things that were most helpful and maybe helpful are listed in the description! ⬆️
Nice! 2 week vacay! Been waiting to read Ishiguro. Maybe in September. And I wish Stars Hollow was real LOL 😂😂
Yea! It’s a long wait to use 2 weeks at this point in the year, but it’s a good way to extend your Labor Day weekend. Ishiguro would be great for fall 🍂 um, yes, Stars Hollow living is the dream. ✨
I really enjoyed The God of the Woods. I have mixed feelings about the ending, but the vibes are perfect for the end of summer and the writing is incredible! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it!
Ooh that makes me eager to read it! Thank you ☺️
I have The Strawberry Thief to read and I love Shady Hollow.
I would like to say that I am loving your videos about books. I was a person who didn't like reading, and now I'm becoming interested in reading. From Brazil🇧🇷
Wow, thank you Paulo! That’s the best compliment. I’d love to hear what you decide to read and how it goes, please keep us updated!
⛱️ Did you read any good books during your break this year?
LOL Jeff "I'm glad we have editing!" And why is it that I am only find out that Ella Enchanted is a book?! My world is shook! 🤣 🎶Can anybody find meeeee somebody to LOOOOVE 🎹
Yes! The book is so short but I’ve read and watched both many times 😂
OMG your timer reminds me of this game timer Boggle 😂 I love this idea because I tend to ramble on and I need some restrictions! Taking note for Middle of the Night for next summer.
Yeah just steal a minute timer from literally any game in your house, the real challenge is remembering to put it back haha 😆
