Gotta think of these things good work man!!! 💪 quality build
Are you going to block and or strap the trusses?
OK, glad it all worked out. But essentially, you feed it all the dimensions and it performed the final sum. I guess what it did that made it easier than just entering it in an Excel spreadsheet is that it was flexible and could accept measurements in different formats composed of feet, inches, and fractional inches using halves, forths, eighths, and sixteenths. I am an electrical engineer and have played with ChatGPT to write software and other queries and it did a good job most of the time. But not something I wouldn't review for accuracy. Engineers still have a job for a few more years learning how to use AI, training them to be experts at what you do, and verifying what they produce. Ironically the jobs of tech people, the field who created AI, are most likely to be replaced by it. I am near retirement and more concerned with the future of my son and daughter, one a mechanical engineer and the other a genetic testing technician, both jobs that could be taken over by AI and robotics. They are a generation which is likely to be worse off that theit parents. The fear of what is to come is a motivation to build an energy efficient and long lasting, off- grid house that my extended family could live comfortably on modest income. I am not for AI if it is used by the super wealthy to further income inequality and destroy the middle class.
Who cares if the neighbors have views
I did my footers the same way.......really rough appearance. This gives the concrete slab that gets poured on top something to bond and grip to. I used 3 1/2 inch Tapcon screws on my 2 x 4's that we used to hold the ICF blocks in place for the basement slab. Worked out really well. I also used the Fab-Form Zevelers which call for the 2 x 4 bracing on the footer. Nice job on the concrete pour. Concrete pours can be pretty stressful sometimes. I was thinking if you had extra ICF blocks, you could have used them for he bump out concrete forms. I am sure that crossed your mind and you had good reasons for how you did the pour. It all worked out. Nice job! 👍
I think you did a great job on that garage bit, esp. considering that you were utilizing material on hand for the forms.
Thanks :) I am glad it worked out.
loving this series, I'm learning so much. I'm starting my project next year. Thanks for uploading these videos.
I went with 12” trusses but only because needed to maximize the ceiling height on the 3rd floor. It’s cheaper to get taller trusses and they can span more distance. Watch the video I just posted on my floor system. My glulam beam is 15” tall and can span 16’. I went with mostly glulam because it costs less than steel beams.
Nice work! What size floor trusses are those in this video? What size glulam is that supporting the floor trusses. I am fast approaching the point of ordering floor trusses. I am going with Trimjoists. I am debating whether to use a steel I beam or a glulam for floor truss support. What drove your decision to go with the glulams?
Thanks for the tip!
Btw, while we also use protective track, the easiest way we have found to clean out polluted nubs is with an air compressor nozzle rather than with a screw driver. Works a charm. Great work BTW.
That's a great tip!!!
American homes are dogshit.
Looks nice. Are you concerned at all about the ICF block being exposed to UV rays from the sun for too long and degrading?
lil rasping & it's like new again, even years later in the high-desert. only need to do that for waterproofing/stucco/etc, but other finishes can go right over the rainscreen/furring strips.
A hard bristle push broom has seemed to work too for getting the dust off so I could apply the polymer waterproofing paint.
Good work
If we hadn't already moved into our rural dream home, I would be interested in building one of these. Fascinating. You've done an amazing job Aaron. 👏
Rice cakes?
Glad that’s done! So one more wall pour, or… ?
One more pour 🎉
Almost there! Curious why you aren’t pouring the top courses and lintels in this lift? Also what is that you’re using to keep the mud out of the top edges of the ICF’s ?
I actually am pouring the top courses and lintels but it is for the level below. I have done it both ways and I have found it is a lot easier to pour up to the bottom of a window and then stack my block and brace it and fill all of that on the next pour.
I am using the 2.5 inch metal tracking that I will reuse when I build my interior metal walls.
Those mountains are so majestic. That's gonna look really odd to see a giant home right next to single-story houses in a cul-de-sac.
They are magnificent. Across the street in a view you didn’t see is a home with a roof line almost as tall as ours. And next to that is another two story home. The neighborhood is very eclectic.
Beautiful. What's that orange glow between behinnd that peak about 5 seconds before the end of the video. It looks like the glow of a volcano.
Just a beautiful part of the sunrise 🌅
@@LegacyViewsICFhomeBuildDid you actually look at the part I was talking about. Over the SE corner of your house are two peaks, a larger one behind a smaller one. The larger one blocks out the sunrise, yet there is an orange glow coming up out of the valley between the two peaks. That valley should still be in shadow. Just wondering whether it was a fluke of the terrain reflecting sunlight around the furthest mountain or is that the glow of street lights.
I just looked closer and that is a crazy effect. It just recently snowed so I am guessing it is the reflection off the snow on the back side of the lower mountain. Now I wish I would have taken a photo of it. Thanks for noticing!
@@LegacyViewsICFhomeBuild Coincidentally, right after I posted my 2nd comment, a show came on the Weather Channel about sunlight anomalies caused by atmospheric effects. Or, maybe there is a pot of gold up there guarded by Leprechauns.✌️
Good luck!
Thanks!

I can never understand why people call concrete “ mud”.
I'm guessing because it is easier to say than concrete 😂. Plus at least at the slump it comes out of the hose when I pour (placed for the purists) it sure looks like liquid mud :)
Is there an Estimated Finish Date?
Before Christmas…..I am just not sure which one 😂
Oh man!!!! That thang ain't goin nowhere 😂 man such a blessing to see and inspiring
Yeah you got to be careful with chat GTP sometimes it'll be accurate but sometimes the inputs are wrong and it'll give you totally bad information
I just posted a follow up video with how the concrete pour went.
Or just use a concrete figuring equation that’s actually accurate
Or just use an amalgamation of Wikipedia articles cleverly marketed as A.I. because everyone currently living in America is apparently illiterate and/or brain-dead.
I used the equation and chatgpt. Watch my follow up video for the results :)
Chat gpt is not accurate omg dont do this😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Watch the follow up video to see how it turned out :)
just found your channel, these are great videos! I'm doing basement and first floor ICF next year. Your project is amazing!
Good luck! It's a lot of work but very satisfying.
Good luck with that. Make sure you tell us how that worked out. Large Language Models AI's like ChatGPT can tell you a reasonable sounding story, very little of which is true. Google "is chatgpt math correct?"
3 weeks
Congratulations on passing the inspection. You will put roof on in 4 weeks.
That's awesome, Aaron. How did the inspection go, Monday?
I passed 😊. The pour is tomorrow 🎉
this is awesome!
Have you been doing entire ICF wall install and pour by yourself? I’m having hard time to find help here in Nashville TN.
I have been doing the whole thing on my own. The most important thing is brace your walls right. Otherwise you will join the embarrassed legion of ICF builders who have wavy walls.
That’s a great idea and more doable because it is diy 😊
Also, the earth will help oool your house in the summer.
I live in a high mountain desert valley, so I’m hoping that by cooling the house at night with the outside cool air will be sufficient given the thermal mass of the concrete and the insulation from the Icf. But there are some nights that get too warm and so my plan is to take that dry air pump it into the crawlspace and pull up the cool air. I will let you know how it goes. 😊
Also, there is a new solar inverter model just released that can support 25k watts solar. And go fully off grid. It’s the ‘grid boss’ system by EG4. By far the easiest solar system for a whole house setup.
Thanks for the tip!!!
I’ve been thinking another easy way to have a floor with thermal mass would be tile. You can use ‘Ditra Heat’ electrical heating wire under the tile. all your extra solar would be able to be directed to areas that need heat. Sound and comfort level would be top tier. And diy friendly

Wow, what a huge house. How many SF?
About 9,000 heated and 13000 over all
great Job so far man. Keep up the good work
Great idea! Unfortunately I am using Fox Blocks which have 2 5/8 inch thick EPS foam on each side of the form block.

Been following for a bit now very interesting and I imagine highly highly rewarding, well done! excited stuff.. good luck with everything
Oh Aaron! So it sounds like you plan to get the roof on before more snow comes? How exciting. All the best with the inspection tomorrow ... though you do not need it as you are doing everything correctly and with such attention to detail.
Super helpful! I’m glad to see you carry on with your build! Thank you so much for your videos!
Looks like you’re still using 8” forms up there? Is there a reason you didn’t switch to 6” forms as you went higher? Also a few rebar questions for you if you happen to know the answers: What’s your horizontal rebar schedule at that height? And are you running your vertical bars in the middle or toward one face or the other?
I live in an earthquake zone so I have to stick with 8” forms. Horizontal is still every 16” inches. And yes I put the vertical down the center. I alternate my horizontals on either side of the middle so the vertical go right down the middle
What an amazing view! Had to watch the short a few more times just to take it in
This is crazy. 48 feet??? Holy cow. Code allows for that in a residential zone? Is this Utah? Colorado? Those mountains look amazing. I assume the concrete has been poured into the walls of the lower levels already?
I'm in Utah and they allow 35' above grade and below grade they said I could dig to China 😂 But I could only afford to go 13' below grade. And yes I have already poured a number of levels full of concrete. Basically I can do about 10-12 feet per pour.
