Discover How Sylvia avoided hip replacement surgery
Sylvia was scheduled for a hip replacement surgery and within two weeks, canceled due to her reduction in pain and return to function using my hip pain program. Many people suffer from hip pain and, even if arthritis is present, may become painfree if they simply solve the reasons their hip hurts. I helped Sylvia discover the sources of her pain which are often overlooked by practitioners.

Ruth asks What to do About her Degenerative Disc Disease?
Переглядів 67День тому
Ruth is looking for advice about her degenerative disc disease. Degenerative disc disease is kind of a misnomer in that it’s not really a disease but a condition that happens from a normal aging process. However if it goes too far, problems can result. Oh shit... that perfectly recreates my compensations. I feel the increased tension, and a locking of movement, then my hips begin to rotate towards my left and also forwards. This causes my foot to excesively pronate and my knee to twist and cave in. The thing is, what methology of walking would be the least stressfull on my body? I seem to naturally transition between different gaits with different compensation, obviously none feel correct and all have thrir downsides, but which would be the most ideal? For added info, i currently have a pelvis xray with signs of cam impingement and acetabular retroversion. My left hip moves well, it just gets stress related pain and probably some soft tissue damage due to impingement. My right side however seems heavily retroverted. If i lie on my back, my hips will rotate all the way around to the left tonthe point theres little right glute contact with the surface yet the leg will rest at least 30 degrees from neutral. Or a 10 degree incline from the outer foot being entirely flat on the surface. It also feels like the leg pulls away from the body as if the body is trying to pull down and left across the body and the leg wants to go out and away from the body. It also kind of feels like the femur actually rests on the surface pushing into it, whilst the hip pushes up and away. Activating the right abductors increases this sensation and it feels like im trying to push my right inner groin out in front of my body.

Thanks Rick - I had bilateral hip surgery 10 weeks ago and have been seeing my physio and doing the hip-related exercises diligently. I now understand why I'm now getting pain on my knees and feet. I waited 3-4 years to finally decide to have the surgery (not my choice but from recommendations I received being 54 and too young to have hip replacement). What I didn't realise is by waiting and putting up with the pain that I may have created a deeper problem to other parts of my body that I now need to address with my physio. Your video has helped me understand and to think of implementing a different strategy for my recovery.

Thanks so much for your post and honesty, I guess we're all susceptible to pain and this video showing yourself experience and dealing with lateral shift has been very helpful. Especially when you showed how standing on each leg made such a difference and also how you physically coped/managed. I have never heard of this before however for the last few months or even a year on/off i have looked at myself in the mirror and I am looking the same way. Nobody has examined me though I have seen gp and physio. But now I have a name I can use next time I see the doctor. I'm struggling with chronic pains in several places, head to toe, failed operation for ruptured right Achilles in 2008 and now waiting for a bostrum brace operation to repair torn right ankle ligaments and cartilage. I was told my pelvis is out of alignment years ago, several people including the foot osteopath surgeon said my hip needs looking at but nobody will. I have osteoporosis, osteoarthritis Raynaurds and other's, 2 gps and 1 physio recently tell me I have hypermobiity when they have looked at my right hip but I'm not sure, never been flexible, im now 58 and I believe it's to do with my gait. Do you please have an opinion to share? I'd be very grateful . I hope you recover well and look forward to viewing your other videos including the 10 functional tests programme!❤

ok i have a question every now and then i get a pain in my foot (left only) that causes my foot to somewhat lock up and causes alot of pain and intense discomfort could femoral retroversion cause that pain in my foot? i noticed recently aswell ive started getting knee pain (slight knee pain) and everynow and then im getting pain in my left side of my back which is weird because both my legs are effected by the retroversion but the pain only really often effects only the one leg

Possibly although I suspect a larger compensation issue. Perhaps check out my video about compensations to test yourself.

Thanks as always Rick. I am trying to incorporate some of these stretches with methods using QiGong. I am also swimming as part of my routine. Trying to find balance without overdoing it on my 74 y/o broken down athlete's body is a challenge. Lol I have got to give up on push, push, push. I'll be too broken to crawl through the Pearly Gates!

I’m glad I saw this vid, doc because a lot of videos about one sided QL pain aim to target stretching/strengthening just that muscle and after going through my fair share of trials and error I have found it’s not that easy. In my case, I narrowed the left QL spasm being due to an extremely weak hamstring. It’s unable to contribute its share of stability to the pelvis, which is what explains the other muscles jumping in and locking down. Surprisingly, I’m able to feel the glute max on the side that hurts, but only feel hamstring on the non painful side. So my left leg has weak hamstring while my right has a weak glute max. I attribute this imbalance to poor posture habits over years. Great explanation.

Thank you for this. I have had sciatica for over 10 years in the left leg and waist. I got a standing desk to add to my main desk, so I could do a bit of standing and sitting. In the last week I noticed my sciatica has got worse, and it's also aggravating my groin area. I'm also getting sharp pains in my heel that I have not had for a while. The only change I have done is standing. And yes like you said, I can feel myself putting more pressure on one leg than the other after an hour of standing. Standing has made it worse. Your video makes sense with what is happening.
