If so, it was monitored for outcomes to see what they know. It feels like a video game, which gives some weight to the simulation theory. I think Irving knew it was a simulation and that's why he said it didn't matter at the end, and told Dylan just remember "Hang In There" like the poster. Someone else pointed out the pineapple bobbing showing Helly with her head under water. The dead seal could represent a Navy Seal, maybe Irving if he died and was brought back by Lumon. He paints the hallway to the Testing Floor over and over. It's also called the Export Hall. Either way he paints it with the light on as if he sent someone down. The TV on the ledge playing a "muzak" version of the Kier song just appeared there, as did the "shadow" versions of the innies. So, it has to be a simulation. If it was projected they couldn't have touched the TV when it appeared.

Natalie asks Ricken to rewrite his book specifically for the innies. But in the first episode, when Milkshake shows Mark the newspaper, there’s an article stating that “a benediction was delivered by Dr. Ricken Hale, author of such hits as The You You Are and These Values Nine: How I Let Kier In.”* To me, this suggests that Ricken is involved in all of this somehow. The fact that his writings are already referenced in the outside world before he’s asked to adapt them for the innies feels like more than just a coincidence. Could he have deeper knowledge of Lumon than he lets on? Thoughts?

i think the book could be dangereous , its on killing others ( like irving threatens in the end ) and on jerking off onto the floor. i think bringing these ideas to the floor might be a terrible idea. That said i agree it seems like a simulation. Though the water dunking of hellena can it be explained with pinapple bobbing? that wouldnt work in a simulation. also you are russian , what do you think about them beeing in fully regular russian outdoor clothing? is the entire thing/simulation a cold war experiment in siberia done by russians? or is it just a nodge to the pseudo communistic believes of kier.

I think Irving has already had Clean Slate done to him. I believe he use to work in O&D which is why subconsciously paints the exports hall. Felicia mentions how they use to deliver to that hall. So maybe something happened that involve Irving, and they used clean state on him. And why they have someone grab the deliveries now. And also wonder if they will just clean slate him again because we did see a melon party with his face on it in the trailer. But I don’t agree that they will be able to tell all the innie’s because they mention they are going to erase Irving all from everyone, which means they are likely clean slate all the innies.

My theory: Dieter wasn’t a real person, it was simply the name Kier gave to his feral “outie” self. The entire story is Kier telling of how he severed himself, his refined self being the first Innie.

Im here from your “from” series so I saw you do severence, I started watching it this week. First thing I have realized with the intro was it was so similar to Westworlds introduction including with music. I ran a little research on Chatgbt so the intro was indeed made by the same production company (i assume same composer as well because the sound is so similar)

During Helena’s severance scene, it looks like Miss Casey was present.

I agree. Screencrush, New Rockstars etc. are doing a fantastic job with Severance, even though with some other shows they have gone too much into the pure recap direction.

I live where it’s very cold. If you went outside your breath would show as steam. Therefore, they are in a simulation or something else but not in the extreme cold as they are portraying. Big error anyone that lives or spent time in a cold environment would know this. 😊

I hope everyone realizes there is no such thing as an "ether mill". Ether is very strong and is distilled, not cooked in the open air, ever. And the painting "Keir invites you to drink his water" is copied from a painting from 1818, Wanderer Above Sea of Fog". I think they were all in the Lumon "Team Building" area (see Petey's map) during this whole thing (in the show- really it was filmed in the woods). It's an override. But the part where Mark is seeing Gemma and Helena is probably because of his recently reintegrated brain being put through an override. The seal is probably because of Irving being brought back to life when he died as a Navy Seal. I think he was "put on ice" for a while before he was restored, and the picture in his trunk is him. Maybe. I know Irving has a deeper story in this - he has to. His character is so complex! He knows the hallway to the testing floor, from the vantage point of sending people there. And the paperwork in his trunk at home tells us he's investigating it. He knew that what was happening in the simulation didn't matter, so maybe he knew it was a simulation.

Also…the screen that showed us Glasgow, also had a freeze frame on there so it’s quite possible all of them can be paused between becoming innie or outie and that’s how they would be able to place them wherever they wanted before unpausing them as either innie or outie and this would allow them the ability for things to just appear like the tv on top of the cliff. Mark wakes up on the table multiple times because he’s been “reset” multiple times…definitely leaning toward robots. Quantum computers use human brains, so maybe this is about successfully creating robots that are copies of real people (robotoids) and then successfully transferring human consciousness to it.

I have a seal theory. Irving’s outie - as we can assume - has some military experience, so maybe he was a Navy Seals solider in the past. So my theory is that the dead seal is the hint to viewers about his “death” in the end of this episode

1. the book was written by Marks Brother in law. 2. They can shut off the outies with the overtime switch and they can also control shut off the innies with another switch. He calls to cut the switch when Irving was drowning Helena. 3. Mark is the descendant of the forest loving Egan. He found love out in the wilderness- not jerking it in the woods, but found a wife and left the family so they wrote him out of the family . Hooking up with Helena will be the end of the Egon control over the company.

Couple of interesting things I picked up 1. The numbers seem to be 1, 4, 5, 7…But they are actually 1, 5, 7, 14. Convert them into the alphabet and you get A, E, G, N (Eagan!) 2. In the dream vision, Death was a crucial theme. Firstly the flies buzzing (like around a corpse), the dead zombie bride with hair falling out. All the trees were also dead in the vision. I think the dead seal they found earlier in the episode also hinted at that. Not sure what to make of it exactly though. They’re working on the dead brains of Eagans or something 😅

I saw Real Enigmas & Theories (maybe check it out for your streaming session!!) and he threw out a theory that this location may be an actual location on lumen grounds somewhere because on Petey’s map, there was a section titled Team Building or something like that. Maybe this is a lab where they’re sleeping and it’s in the mind, or maybe it’s a replica of a special location built somewhere on or under Lumen property I don’t know but this season is insane and I love it

Man they deserve a couple oscars for this season. Specifically I think Irvin really deserves one for this season. I initially thought Milchik again, but it's Irvin 100%.

I also think Irving on the ice is symbolic of him being “on thin ice” 😢 Kinda unrelated but your “weapon on choice comment” reminded me I read somewhere that an icicle is the “perfect weapon” because it could kill someone and then melt

I was wondering maybe part of figuring out it was Helena was that maybe Irwing 'worked on her file' before she was severed. That's one of the reasons he saw she was an Eagan in the dream through the numbers. Also, I don't understand why Lumon/Milchick would do an overnight thing for the innies. I always assumed that the reason they got so mad at people snoozing was due to connections they could make to their outie. But I wonder if I only had that thought because we saw Irwing's perspective (black paint). Maybe they don't know that and it's just about work efficiency.

I think Montauk is a reference to Eternal Sunshine like you mentioned. I've been listening to the Severance Podcast and Ben Stiller has mentioned the movie and Michel Gondry as inspiration.

I don't know if it's a continuity error, but the shot before they enter Scissor Cave and find the book, Irv is already carrying a book when they are walking in the snow. For me is a little hard to accept a continuity flaw, this show is made very carefully. 🤔
