#3 Cypriot Grandmothers Stories | Yogurt the traditional way
This is Meyrem, a member of the Turkish Cypriot community on the island. Today, she will show us how to make yogurt from start to finish. She will also explain how to prepare a traditional dish with 'Molohia.' I'm excited to share her life story with you!
Joy of Origins was born out of the necessity to preserve the stories and culture of Cyprus. My grandmas' narratives were foundational in creating the channel's videos. This limited series aims to portray their lives through their own words. The goal was to find Cypriot grandmothers from the five ethnicities of the island, who retain “good” memories of Cyprus before the war. I carefully interviewed them, and they graciously shared their stories and cooking wisdom. My hope is to keep these stories alive for generations to come.

      Hey there. You just add some water and the fruit. You can adjust the amounts to your liking to make it denser or softer. ☺️ at the end, if you want, you can add some extra splash of lemon juice.

      Υπάρχει στην υπεραγορά έτοιμη τσίπα. Αν δεν μπορείς να την προμηθευτείς τότε μπορείς να βάλεις λίγο ελαιόλαδο. Κάποιοι βάζουν και φρέσκα κρέμα αλλά εγώ προσωπικά δεν το έχω δοκιμάσει. 😊

      Yes, it is! It used to be a popular thing to bake dating back at least in the 1800s. Now you can't really find it in bakeries but the seeds are available in stores when in season.

    QUESTION: Have you ever tried Tremithopites or cooked with Terebinth Seeds? Also, it was so interesting for me to realize that some of the villages I pass by so often took their name from this tree!! Like Kokkinotrimithia or Tremithousa! It makes so much sense, but I have never thought of it before!

    • @JoyofOrigins
      @JoyofOrigins 6 місяців тому

      The berries are not mature enough in summer, so it will likely be hard to harvest them directly from a tree. However, you might be able to find them in a nut shop or from a nut vendor.

      @JoyofOrigins 6 місяців тому

      Hey there! This oxymel is made with natural ingredients which are generally safe for children, but since kids can react differently, I suggest starting with a small amount, like 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon per day, and seeing how they feel. It's always a good idea to keep an eye on any reactions as some herbs like sage can be maybe a little bit strong for very young children. There's an entire video dedicated to natural remedies on the channel. If you are interested, feel free to explore more. Enjoy!
