Damn plastic parts failing all the time once most cars get to the 20-30 years old. I'm replacing failed thermostat housings, inlets, pulleys, tanks/reservoirs all the time, and the replacements look to be Chineseum plastic rubbish too. It's hard to believe the MG is 24 now! Yeah thats the only mainbthing you have to make sure is done to the kv6 they are generally very good engines but they cheaped out on the intake manifold and thermostat

I’ve owned a RR Sport TDV8 since new, 2010, now has 250k miles on, new turbos (reconditioned) at 150k miles, a couple of air suspension bags, and lower arms, that’s it, great car!

I have a 2003 SLK 320 which I bought off lease and was still under warranty. The 320 has about 25 extra horsepower and more torque on a nice wide band. It has a 6 speed manual with a reasonably light clutch which makes it lots of fun. I store it in the winter because of all the salt we use in Toronto. It only has 140,000 km, so only nicely broken in. Before Covid I did a road trip from Toronto to Vancouver. 13,000 km altogether with some fun side trips. I'm 79 and will keep it as long as I can still get in and out of it.

I think the biggest fear is reliability. However, I’ve never owned one so I don’t know whether that is a myth.

I was interested in 1 of these but as i suspected im better off staying with german engineering,out of all the cars ive had vw and bmw have had less problems,just my opinion.

I bought a 68 plate Sport (mint) as a retirement present to myself with 80k on the clock for £30k. I had a MAJOR service which cost £2k and replaced all the tyres. I only intend to do about 2500 miles per annum, so what I spend on Insurance(£1200), I will save on fuel. Bought a Farraday pouch and a steering lock (£150 combined). Not worried about depreciation as this will see me out. I have a £500 Slush Fund set aside for any future issues and looking forward to pulling into my Golf Club with the car of my dreams. You only live once!

I thought if you're going to put new set of tires on, to do an wheel alignment after replacing tires?

What water pump and OFH filter did you use. Was the vano line replacement a Hella brand. Looking into coolant system upgrade on a budget in my future. Good info shared but just wanted more details. Thank you.

What do you think of the P400e engine? I’m looking at a couple of 2019s for 23-28k and unsure if I should pull the trigger.

I have the 3.5 v6 and surprisingly not that bad on fuel. Highway driving on cruise control can deliver 40 mpg. The prestige model has a better spec than the one reviewed with full leather and 300 bhp power output. Ref the infotainment system, you can buy an aux box which replaces the CD input on the back of the manufacturers stereo. This allows you to install a dashboard mount Android auto / car play head unit. Fyi, don't pull the standard unit as there are hidden menus with dashboard and engine telemetry. Download google translate and use your smart phone camera to translate the buttons. One thing I would recommend is have an exhaust resonator delete ( 3 resonators in total) as it changes the car from being almost EV like to having a lovely sporty mid-range growl that isn't over powering. Sadly, there are no tuning options in the UK due to the lack of numbers and relative obscurity as the transmission could benefit from having a slightly more aggressive torque converter profile, especially between 2 - 3,000 rpms. I bought the car for £3,000 with 80k miles on a 2008 plate and spent around £2k on servicing (parts plus labour which included the cambelt / water pump kit). The Android Auto head unit and aux box cost £160. The resonator delete was £210 but money well spent. A real plus as per the reviewed vehicle is the build quality and solid feel very much out classes any Euro version of a people carrier. Everything feels very solidly built and no light weight at just under 2 tonnes. Parts / service items were sourced through Torque GT in Plymouth who used a combination of Honda UK and ordering from Japan. Even the Japanese parts were ordered and received within 4 weeks. This sounds like a long time but so long as you do a regular maintenance schedule and proactively deal with problems, the delays shouldn't significantly impact your motoring experience.

I have a AMG 230 compressed and it's rust free and have 135k miles and it is a lot better than the average one off the assembly line

30 plus mpg! ill take that, mu freelander only does 27

the indicator stalk is on the correct side all British made cars MG, Bristol Humber British Leyland have the indicator stalk on the right same for japan both are right had drive vehicle designs, all others are build designed for the left hand drive market.

use your mirrors to reverse dont turn around in your seat ??

I had an early model, no fancy thingys no electronics just did what it was designed for. Simple, reliable v8.

I just got my mom this car she loves it. I already found a trusted specialist to take it to if a repair comes up. So far so good no engine issues. We had a discovery 2 back in the day and it was a 2002 that we had until about 2012 or 13

I and 7 friends of mine have had either Range Rover sports or Discovery 4’s , all with the 3 litre Diesel engine. Only 1 of the 8 has its original engine!!! Most of us have been life long Land Rover owners and most of us, as much as we love the cars when they are running, have or will go elsewhere in the future! The cost of running them is now off the scale and the reliability is SO bad, we can’t justify it anymore!! JLR need to get a serious grip on these issues. 😳

You can get a good one or bad one as in every make of vehicle....BUT when it's under warranty and you can't get the parts from jlr because it's on back order and even they don't know of the delivery of the parts....I've never had one of my jlr stolen because of one thing in the back window I keep a sign Saying.......BROKEN DOWN!! and leave a dummy set of keys on the seat with door left unlocked.

I just got a 39,000 mile m140i. The condition looks good but I feel sad because its not stock or rather I'm told it wasn't stock and worried the car has been reved too much or maybe even tracked? Not sure... will never know but it drives fine to me. Am I just too worried? It sounds like the remapped gearbox with xhp and potentially ecu remap but it looks stock now. It has a cobra exhaust. Will it be fine for the future? :( Thanks

My daughter in London has just received her renewal premium for her 2016 RRSport for £28,440. She has 19 years NCB but 2 recent no fault claims (second was for theft, but was retrieved in a few days from a local car park by the Met). She has 2 current motorway speeding fines, 6 points.She is parking the car up and getting a company car instead. Any advice !

Great post, thanks. I got quoted £2700 fully comp, 40 years driving, 20+ years NCB living in London. I was told it was because they always get stolen. So I asked for a quote Third party only and was quoted £2,500!!!! Proving it has very little to do with theft. The insurance companies are doing what the energy and food industry is doing. Profiteering. Maximising profits because they have us cornered.

The SLK has aged so much better than all it’s rivals. Still looks beautiful after all these years. Comes in so many variations also. 200 230 320 and the 32 AMG, all in either manual or automatic. Miles ahead of the opposition. A true thoroughbred.

I would definitely change engine oil sooner than 16,000 miles. More like 10,000 kms! Also, get the transmission serviced, at least at 100,000 kms, and some would suggest even more often. ZF recommend more often. Engine oil becomes diluted with diesel and can lead to bearing failure. Just change the oil every 10,000 kms.

Things are the same on 28th April 2024. For a 2016 RR Sport it seems to be 1.1k, so expensive but still doable and there were a lot in the 1k to 1.3k, for a quote that is " car kept on the drive, full NCD no tracker or dash cam, and just outside London but still inside the M25".

Thanks for this review. You have raised some good points. I note the issue about altering your insurance specification. All insurance companies share data, therefore if you raise a risk with one company and then delete to another, it is highly probable that will be highlighted. I own a 23 Sport D350. Just had my renewal at £758. That is with Admiral, living in West Wales. My second JLR, first was a 69 plate Velar p300 HSE. Contrary to most posted comments I have enjoyed trouble free driving for nearly 5 years. Only issues have been security and other minor recalls. My previous experiences with BMW and Mini have NOT been so good.😮

Jesus Christ everywhere I look there’s a dead ting m140i video on UA-cam 😅😂😂 Everyone is obsessed with them who can’t afford a proper M car or an rs3 or Mercedes etc. They are good for getting power out of them but they are just a cheap clapped out 1 series with a big engine. A 17 year old on minimum wage could afford 1. 😂🤣
