A big shoutout to Wes for setting this ride up. I'd never met Ron or Tom before but they were cool dudes with cool bikes. This was a great way to get back out on the moto for my first "real" ride since coming back to Asheville post hurricane.
Conditions were just about perfect. The temperature was around 70, it was nice and sunny, and the dirt was prime. Not really that dusty (until the end anyway) and pretty tacky across a variety of terrain.
I had a weird issue where my dash cut out and it ended up being a blown fuse. The dash dying also made my CRF250 Rally throw a code. It seemed pretty odd but I'm thankful I was able to figure out what was going on and get it resolved.
I had a great time riding with these guys and am looking forward to more adventures in the future!
More to come!

Nice ride! I was just out through North Mills a couple of weeks ago on my 300 rally. Was going to ride yellow gap out to the pink beds but it was closed. Did you figure out what happened to your speedo display?
It looks beautiful out!
It was!
Cool video. Can you drop a link for your cell phone holder?
The heat is barely noticeable Only tested them inside but I expected way more warmth on the highest setting, is this normal?
I'd say something is wrong with yours then. Mine get hot enough to make my hands sweat!
Hey bud, new to the area and me and my DR would love to do some exploring! Do you happen to have any GPS tracks?
Hey! Sure do! Here's the one for this video: ridewithgps.com/routes/49127667 I'll clean up some other tracks and have more NEPA footage and routes soon too.
Do they warm the fingers, too? It's hard to decide when youtube says one thing, but anaxon reviews say another.
Haha
😃
Hitting the Gap!
Yessir!!
Glad you are back in Asheville 👊
Woof! 🐶
a piece of pvc pipe under the stock cap will do the same thing
I really appreciated this video! I've shifted from the ADV160 / CT 125 to the XR150L. Wondering whether you're open to a phone call? I've got questions about protective gear, etc., and am looking for recommendations!
Seems busy out which is good to see
I just took a ride on Pearson Falls Road in Saluda yesterday on my 300 rally. If you’ve never ridden that road, it’s gravel and a creek runs alongside it. It’s passable, but they are still clearing it as of yesterday 11/9. The damage was unbelievable.
Thanks for sharing. My brother lives in Ashville too, he was lucky, his home is up the mountain a bit.
Thanks for watching. Glad he was alright!
Thanks for your blog! Whatcha riding these days? Maybe we can go for just a ride sometime. Still have the 150? I just purchased a new Transalp. TW is still rockin, ultimate disaster bike. Happy you are hear and doing well.
Hey buddy! Thanks for watching! We should definitely get out for a ride sometime. I still have the 150. It’s been on some wild adventures. The CRF250 Rally I recently purchased is going to be my primary bike from now on though. Congrats on the Transalp! I really like those. TW is too good to ever part with. I really enjoyed riding that beast. It’s nice to hear from you!
Hey Rick! You helped dial in my old DR650 about 7 or 8 years ago. I had your mojave shock and fork kit in it. I’m now on a Honda crf300 rally. The previous owner of the bike put a nitron rear shock and Andreani fork kit in it. Wish he had gone with your products though! I think he had Schroeder’s Honda do the install. We WNC dual sport guys should get together and get some weekend rides going.
@ we sell the Andreani fork kits for that bike but we do modify the damping modifications some. With our shock and that the bike is great. We still ride our WR250r with our mods. I’d love to get out for a ride. The Nitron is a good shock. We make stuff here. We ride the products also because of the community and enjoyment. Thank you for your business.
@ we would have enjoyed having to work with you on that new Honda. We have those bikes really dialed in with our shock and fork upgrades. I’m sad that I didn’t get a chance to work with you. My WR250r is similarly setup so you can make a comparison. I am a huge fan of the Honda CRF 300 and a fan of you.
@@cogentdynamics Thanks Rick, that’s very kind of you. You’ve been very kind and helpful in helping me grow this channel. The XR/TW is one of my most popular. I should have reached out before ordering anything but I didn’t want to be a bother. We should still do something together. I’ll get rid of that other stuff and we could make a cool video of the process! Let me know what you think and I can shoot you an email!
Had my XR 150 out all day yesterday and had a blast. I almost bought a cfr 300L at Schroeder's but we couldn't agree on a few particulars. 191 by the river wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. Nice ride bro
It’s been so nice and warm lately. I’m glad you got out! The CRF250 Rally I’m riding is a blast. It’s a great compliment to the 150. And agreed, I thought 191 by the river would be gone but it seems fine.
No, I did not like that! Stay off the parkway this time of year at night.
🤪
Good to have you home! Taking Class this next weekend at AB Tech (moved because of Helene) and I’m looking for a dual sport right now. Holler if you know of any for sale preferably a 300 or less.
Oh man! I’m glad to hear you’re okay besides having had to move. Congrats on taking your class. I’ll put the word out to some of my buddies and see if they know of anything that’s available. 👍
There's no place like home even if it's a little messed up! I would like to see a full tour of the parkway. I live 1k miles from the dragon and 1k miles from the north entrance of the parkway but dream of riding it in the near future.
Great idea!! I’ve always wanted to ride the entire parkway!
Morning 🌄
Good morning! 🌞
Hey there! Did you try them in rainy days? Thanks
I tried them on a day where it was light raining/misting and they were fine. I did not try them in a heavy rain though.
@@OffRoadRodeo thanks alot!
Ahh yes a local!! How do you like the bike? I really am considering one. Spoke with a gentelman today in Wilkes-Barre and he loved his.
Hey! Yes, from White Haven but living in Asheville, NC. I like the XR150 a lot. I really beat the heck out of it last year. If you go back through these videos I’ve ridden it at Windrock Park, Great Smoky Mtns, Blackwater State Forest in FL, etc. I’ve never had any sort of mechanical issue and all I ever did was change the oil and put better tires on it. It gets crazy good gas mileage and has a really big tank. Also has a really nice rack that comes with the bike. I recently bought a CRF 250 Rally that I’m primarily riding now. I wanted something a bit bigger and faster with better suspension. That being said, the XR is sitting right next to it in the garage. 👍
Nicely filmed my man👍🏻
Thanks buddy!!
I love my TW200! I have a ‘97 with electric start and a kick starter! Just an awesome apocalypse cruiser.
The TW is just such a pleasure to ride. It’s so much fun.
Your wiring is all wrong, Black is ground, yellow is permanent positive and red is the switched live so goes to something that becomes live when the ignition is on so the unit knows when to turn on 👍🏻
Where do you access these roads?
Hey! These are National Forest Roads. We rode Bent Creek Gap Road to Yellow Gap Road to NC-276 and then onto FS475b and back on Avery’s Creek Road
How is the size fit? I've seen that some run smaller so buy a size bigger, is that the case with these?
I found them to be true to size. I wear size large gloves in everything from rubber gloves to mountain bike gloves to regular winter gloves and these were right on for me. They might have been a little snug at first but have worn in really nicely. That being said I do have thin fingers so if you have bigger fingers you may want to go up a size.
@@OffRoadRodeo Thank you.
Damn, now i want the XR!
It's been a pretty awesome machine in the time I've had it!
You could change sprocket if needing more speed .
Here in Thailand most ride 125 or scooters , one size up on tires would help . The roads here are concrete slabs . So I am considering buying a dirt bike &change to road tires.
🙏🏻
Keep WNC in your thoughts!
@@OffRoadRodeo yes sir McDowell County is my home
I have a rally that I bought used this past June from a guy in Weaverville. It’s a great bike. He had already upgraded the front and rear suspension and added some other accessories. I live in Hendersonville so if you’re looking to ride with someone else who has a rally just let me know.
That’s awesome! The Rally is such a fun bike to ride. Which suspension is yours using? I’m totally down to ride. Shoot me an email and we can trade contact info: offroadrodeo@gmail.com
Definetly some sketchy gofundme's running out of NC. Very sketchy.
Yes, I agree. That’s why I think it’s important to find an organization that you trust and know will provide aid to the communities in need.
Great video! Glade ya'll are OK and fairly settled for now. Love the new Rally BTW. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! It’s been a wild few weeks but we were very lucky. And this Rally is a ton of fun!
Glad you are safe
Thank you!
It is hard to see, I live in NC about 2.5hrs from you. I've been trying to pull the trigger on a bike so I could go out and potentially ride with you or at least the areas you are close to being that there are none in my area; love the new bike. Im glad you all got out safe! Still praying for Asheville and surrounding areas.
Thank you for watching. Keep me posted when you get something and we will get out and ride! It’s hard to see Asheville like this but it’s going to get better!
Thanks for posting all the hi water shots I’ve never seen. Heartbreaking to see this but, Asheville has a Can Do spirit to rebuild everything even better than before something tells me. We lucked out in Pisgah Forest here just power/internet out 10 days lots of big trees down but had 2 generators we all feel VERY fortunate compared to so many. Ride safe , will look for you on my Hwy.191 commute to West AVL. twice weekly.
I’m glad you made it out relatively unscathed. It’s a hard thing to grasp but you’re right - Asheville has a strong can do attitude and will work its way back! If you see me be sure to honk and wave! 👋
I flew to Costa Rica and bought a XR150L back in 2015. I researched everything beforehand, got a ride from the airport to the nearest Honda dealer, walked in and bought the bike, and walked around the corner to the cell phone shop to get a local SIM card while they prepped the bike. I brought all my gear in a dry bag backpack, along with a couple straps for the rack, and a cell phone holder for the bars. Within two hours of being in country, I owned a new bike with all my gear on the rack and a cell phone with a local number running google maps on the bars. I rode that bike over 3000 miles to every area of Costa Rica, and down every dirt road to every beach I could find. The bike was great. I had one issue with a loose wire near the exhaust melting, but other than that all I did was change the oil and a couple flat tires. Considering how widely available it is in Latin America I would strongly consider using one for some international touring taking the road less traveled. The better bike, and the one Honda needs to bring to the US is the fuel injected XR190L. That bike blow doors on both the CT125 and XR150L.
Thx, good instructions, but really hard to see exactly where you are placing them, but I got it on. Thx!
Do you know where that water crossing was?
Yes, that’s Group Camp Road in Hickory Run State Park. Coordinates are: 41.0408535, -75.6978346
@@OffRoadRodeo I appreciate it! If you're ever back in town and want to ride Worlds End, let me know!
Boot logo? How to changue?
There were better options for this market in the 70s which does NOT make sense. 1976 DT 175 will kick the shit out of these bikes and weighs 50 pounds less!!
It would be nice if they still made stuff like that. Instead to get that weight you’d have to spend KTM money 🤮
@@OffRoadRodeoYour right.
Crazy seeing a local video recommended in my Moto feed. My senior project was giving tours at Eckley for Halloween.
That’s rad! Eckley is a special place! I’ve been up at my parents recently so you may see more local videos come across your feed in the near future 😂
Excellent video, Jake. Well done.
Thanks for watching!
For the price of the CT you are way better to get a Honda Navi instead and pair it with a used (real) dirtbike like an old kdx220. That XR150l is a heavy and slow pos.
Or a CRF250 Rally
I use a standard size black milk crate and use large Zip Ties. They work to secure it. Only use zip ties. I can put 4-5 bags of groceries in the back with a net over it. Save gas and grocery shopping is fun.
I like the milk crate! I only went with a box like this so I could lock GoPro stuff inside when I’m making videos and have to pop in a store or something
@@OffRoadRodeo Get a magnetic tank bag or I use a handlebar bag. Very handy for wallet and GoPro.
I had to adjust mine twice in less than 2k of miles. Will put a DID on it eventually.
Yeahhhh, stock chain is junk. I’m glad you upgraded!
Nice review, thanks
