This channel will be a series of "Guides" full of information and tips for both local and visiting anglers.
Been fishing since the age of 6 and still learning. I enjoy all types of fishing including Pike and Perch in the colder months but nothing beats being on a beach, day or night not knowing what or even if you will catch.
I've been a member of the
Norfolk Angling Club for just about a year now, enjoying the company of a really great bunch of like minded anglers. We fish our club matches on Monday nights all around our Norfolk coastline.
The matches are competitive but very friendly, with everyone willing to help each other and pass on tips and advice, especially for new members. Come along and say hello 👍
If you have enjoyed these videos, I also have some Pike and Perch fishing videos on my other channel.
Thanks

A Night On The Shingle - Weybourne (Norfolk)

With the tides all wrong for my next Suffolk venue, i decided to give the shingle at Weybourne another try after a successful day session there earlier in the week. Arriving at the beach just after midnight, im very surprised to find only two cars in the car park. My first attempt at filming after dark, will those smoothounds make an appearance. Continuing on my Guide journeys, today finds me in the small village of Thorpeness, not far from the Sizewell power station. Approaching the last few days of April, I arrive on a very bright but chilly morning... Fishing from 10am to 2pm with a high tide at 1pm Wind started light North Westerly but swung North Easterly just before i finished... Some nice facilities and reasonable parking costs ...

music a bit loud David cant hear what you saying matey
Yes this is just the advert for the videos on their way next week 👍
@@david892006 cant wait just thought id say in case you didnt know
Thanks , that does happen from time to time 👍
@@david892006 your welcome
great idea the tubes dog seemed to like the day out 😄😄😄😄
Yes she loves being 'free' on the beach. As she is a rescue, it's only when we have the beach to ourselves.
well done on the basses David i was at southwold today nothing but large lumps of weed Wednesday 05/06/2024 i gave up came home might try pakefield tomorrow 👍👍👍great video as always matey if i blank tomorrow there's always the jolly sailors 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That is so true. A nice pint of Guinness and the blank is forgotten 😂
@@david892006 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hard to pick a Suffolk venue that’s fishing any good @ the moment. Not what it used to be. I know everyone says that but that’s the way it is unfortunately. At least you gave it a try & I thank you for that. Hope you do better on your next trip🐟.
Yes I agree, everywhere seems to be fairy hard fishing in daylight. Better at night but not ideal for filming. Unfortunately to produce these guides I sometimes have to fish in not so ideal tides or conditions. Still lovely to be on the beach regularly though 👍
nice video again David i think fishing has gone very quite mate hope it picks up soon 👍👍👍
Yes, I think all the coastline needs a big rough up to stir up the food. Saying that, there were several smoothounds caught in our match last night. A couple were doubles 👍
@@david892006 oh really that’s interesting 👍I’m out tomorrow not sure where to go though 🤔🤔🤔
Our match last night was on Gorleston beach
Happy days Dave another good video buddy not nice weather but no blank cheers buddy
i was in the same bay today ,fished 1 hour before high down to low and not a bite
Another great video David at least you didn’t blank. Keep them coming Boi 🎣
Looked like a tough day Dave. Thanks for another informative video.
Yes John. Seems these marks are producing a few after dark but very little in daylight.
Looks nice 👍🎣🐟
It looked perfect conditions but it ended up being a tough session. Dogfish and a Sole but not a sniff of a Ray 👍
@@david892006 yeah my last session at that area , I couldn’t find the rays either.
Was that the Clacton video. The locals I chatted to yesterday said, it's been slow for a couple of weeks. Needs a good stir up.
You talk too 😂 much
Not the first time I've heard that... If I'm catching fish, I don't get time to say as much 😉
I'd live bait those smaller whiting for Mr Bass
That's something I've not tried as I nearly always use Mackerel, dead or alive. I have however used Whiting for Pike fishing and have had some success. I will try them for Bass tho 👍
@david892006 two hooks one just in the back of the neck the other in its tail.
Cheers, I'll definitely try that .
Cracking video as always David always very informative and an interesting watch cheers mate 🎣
Thanks for watching and your feedback, much appreciated 👍
Good luck , been some bass and hounds out there recently 👍
We fished a match there Monday evening. Only a few hounds and Bass caught BUT the wind was N/W with a high swell. As soon as the wind swings westerly, they will be back 👍
Where in the norfolk coastline can you catch mackeral please
The best beaches are normally the shingle beaches from Weybourne to Cley and this is from mid June onwards until August
Really enjoyed the video, I've had similar sessions there in the past, and yet on another day, it's non stop action. One word of warning though about the first car park, it's basically loose shingle, I came back to my car at 11pm, went to move and sunk all four wheels up to the axles! Took me 2 hrs to get out, I won't make that mistake again. Looking forward to the next vid👍
Thank you. I really appreciate your feedback on the car park. I will add a warning in the description. Thanks again 👍🏻
A handy little tip for anyone wanting to use a bigger hook with the match capsule is put the bait in upside-down and have the point of the hook on the outside of the capsule.
I really appreciate that tip. I've not used the match ones much and yes that will cure that problem. Thanks for watching and the feedback 👍
Ah, Shingle Street. I’ve had had loads of blanks there, but I’ve also had some fantastic sessions. I never do any good during the day. But it’s one of those places that you blank one day & it’s totally different the next. Love the videos 🐟👍
That's why they call it the 'Suffolk Chesil' then 😉 Thanks for watching 👍
I can't recall ever having blanking there but I am very particular about which tides I fish. If the tide and the weather are not right I don't go.
Nice video, thanks for sharing. Shingle Street hasn’t fished very well over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully, things will improve soon and the rays and hounds will show. Tight lines.
Thanks for your comment. Yes I think I was just a little unlucky with that few days of high pressure. I will be back again as a follow up 👍
excellent, I really enjoyed this one. Thank you top man
Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated 👍🏻
i am a big fan of fishing for bass on the float, a live sand smelt or prawn really works for me well. great little video you have constructed here. think i may do the same off the kayak at the weekend. - new sub from here in jersey :)
This method will be even better off a kayak or boat. You wouldn't have to 'tether' it to the bottom with a lead to stop it drifting in. Be interested to hear how you get on 👍
Great session. Regarding fresh lug worm, apart from West Runton and Gorleston, can you recommend any suppliers in between the two? Planning to fish Walcott. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Mark. I use a local guy based on the coast road at Overstrand. His name is Lee Dennis on Facebook. You can contact him on there or messenger. Lug is £24 per 100, £12 per 50 etc 👍
It's about a 15 minute drive from there to Walcott 👍
Never used facebook before, I can’t find him. Can you help with any other information?
@markfenton224 This is the contact number I have for Lee. If you call or message him, he will be able to give you his postcode etc. Bear in mind , he may not reply straight away, as he's often out digging at odd times . Lee Dennis 07812 747826
@@david892006 Thank you very much.
When you sort out the lighting issue, these vids will be awesome like you daytime ones.
Thanks Patrick, I'm not a great fan of night time videos but I'm thinking early/dawn starts or afternoon into dusk might work. Watch this space 👍
Hi Dave what great video mate please could I ask you a question I think it’s a daft question but I been catching a lot of dog fish ,this week and all of them close their eyes out of the water I’m sorry if it’s a daft question it’s bugging me thanks
No such thing as a daft question Paul but there are sometimes plenty of daft answers 😉 My thinking would be, it's like us looking at the sun, we squint. As the fish come up out of mainly dull cloudy water, The bright daylight or even a head torch would have the same effect 👍
Nice session mate, that was me down by the wreck 😊 had a very similar session to yourself minus the Ray
I couldn't believe how empty it was... Absolute bliss 👍
@@david892006 it was buddy, had the beach to myself overnight through the winter, been doing quite well on the quiet 🦄… wasn’t so quiet when I popped out for a couple of hours yesterday evening though!
Word soon gets around and you never know how long they will be there. Once they move , I'll be heading for the sand . That's where they ended up last year 👍
Nice one dave again for the vid . That's when I do most of my fishing very early mornings I love it. All the best from GRIMSBY
You just can't beat a beach to yourself. As I'm leaving, the hoards were arriving 😁
Nice session Dave 🎣
They normally arrive second or third week of JUNE on the shingle mainly between Weybourne and Cley 👍
Happy days Dave another good video buddy some lovely fish cheers mate keep them coming thanks
Thank you for watching. A few tweaks and I'll get the footage clearer in darkness 👍
Well done Dave, nice little session. Great timing on the publication of your video. My car is packed and I'll be doing the same thing tonight into tomorrow morning.
Weybourne fished it's head off yesterday afternoon and again early this morning. Good luck for tonight
Nice video David, as you say better lighting next time. But if you don’t try you don’t know. 🎣
Yes Already looking at a small floodlight style on a fixed pole. I doubt I will be doing many night videos but you never know 👍
Hounds dogs rays whiting and not a fish in sight are you dreaming 😂😂
The video will be up in a day or two 👍
@david892006 only joking look forward to seeing video
Coming off the shingle between weybourne and Cley. Had a decent one last night on lug and squid at about 40 yards.
Tonight, Tuesday, they seem to have moved off Weybourne. Hardly any caught tonight apparently
Where are they then mate. I’ll be Looking for a place to fish this coming bank holiday I’ll be travelling from Clacton any hot spot will be appreciated 👍🏻👍🏻 thanks again
This was Weybourne beach last night but they are showing all along the shingle up to Cley.... I fished from low water to top. Normally 3 up and 3 down ok on those beaches. I expect it will be busy bank holiday but there's loads of room , just might need to walk a bit to escape the crowd. Good luck 👍
The hotspot at Weybourne is in front of the Wreck, 500 mts Left of the car park. At Cley , it's left side past the boats 👍
The journey continues - building to quite a bucket list!
Nice video from a lovely part of the UK, love fishing in Suffolk and Norfolk 🐟🎣👍
Thank you. Yes there are so many choices in both Norfolk and Suffolk. Spoilt for choice 👍
Hi, the last time I fished Shingle Street I saw a swan on the sea. As you probably know Shingle Street is only a few beaches along from Thorpeness, I wonder if it’s the same one. Thanks for the video, it’s nice to see my local beaches. Also sometimes when I fish in the winter people come & swim in the sea, takes all sorts I suppose 😢.
It could be the very same one as I think they are creatures of habit. I can see the 'benefit' of the cold water dips, not for me now. Something I used to do as a kid 😉
great info postcodes etc cheers great videos once again
im there tomorrow was there checking it out today there was a compo on by the sluice they was from ipswich very windy today brighter tomorrow love the videos btw
Thank you for your comment. I also fished today's match, I was up the other end of the town. Very rough conditions and a howling wind. It fished very hard today but saying that , it normally does in matches. You should be fine tomorrow. Good luck 👍
@@david892006 im from Halesworth not to far tight lines👍
Fascinating.
The original idea of that bit of kit was to place your hook between the bait with the curve of hook in the notch at the end, whip with elastic and pull off the way you displayed. End up with full loaded baited hook.
Yes that is 100% correct. I have a small v in the thin end to hold the hook and load it that way. I prefer to wrap the bait on the loader complete. Then I use a needle to slide it straight on the hook. This way I can make up several baits in advance 👍
Amazing!
As a local fishes better on the flood the manor end, north of the pier so fludyers etc on the ebb, fludyers is fairly rough ground, rocks etc Dip is mostly clean but bay dependant. Rays dogs,Bass plus some nice mini species if into lrf round the rock sea defences.
Brilliant. As I'm not local I welcome any additional information for others to see. I really appreciate your feedback, thanks 👍
Hello Dave 👋 Another spot on video buddy enjoyed watching well done on your fish it looked a nice day to be out on the beach look forward to seeing the next video buddy take care and tight lines buddy 👍🎣
Cheers John 👍
Nice one David.
Are those rod rest clips push on, and would they fix to an Ian Golds 6’ rest (1994 version) TIA. I want them 😂
Good afternoon. They are a new product from a company called Spooligan. Available in different sizes to suit your rods. They all fit the tripods, Ian gold's, salt and any with the same top bar. Just slide off the old and slide them on. I'll put a link in the description 👍
You can find them at Veals mail order
👍👍👍
Ave yew got a light boy !
Lol.... Not yet. Im still not classed as a Norfolk boy as I've only lived here 40 years 😉
Once again nice one for the information, spot on. All the best from GRIMSBY
Really appreciate the information you pass on. 👍🏼
Thanks for your feedback 👍
Always interesting to see fishing marks further afield. Look forward to more. Many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
A fairly local mark for me
I like the choice of different marks all quite close to each other 👍
Absolutely superb pair of Bass. Well done Dave. 👏
Many thanks.... Just about this time last year they started showing 👍
