Inside a Minimalist Home Designed to be Open but Private
Welcome to the Elbow House, located along the Elbow River in Calgary. Named for both its geographic and architectural significance, the Elbow House features a distinctive design that integrates with its surroundings. The minimalist aesthetic, enhanced by natural materials like wood, brick, and stucco, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The house's two stacked volumes offer an open, panoramic view from the ground floor, while the upper level, clad in a wood screen, provides privacy for the bedrooms. The design integrates both the stereotomic (grounding) and tectonic (elevated) elements, ensuring a connection to the landscape and a sense of wonder. Inspired by the client's vision of a T-shaped structure, the Elbow House captures light and creates dynamic spaces, offering a unique blend of simplicity and depth.

Lucky you can do this on a rental in your country. In the UK , it is not allowed, bar perhaps paint or adhesive wallpaper.

Not something I could ever have imagined would work - icecream colours, cottagey layers, and mid-century lines - but it works so, so well. A ovely space for a young family.

WOW! as an architect and builder, I have one word to describe that home, BORING! It lacks creativity no sense of imagination and with that color palette it makes me want to throw up . The person in the video uses big words to try and impress others and only comes across as a complete idiot. Three colors I never use and I don’t consider them colors are white, black and gray.
