Great recipe and video! I make a pot of pinto beans in my instant pot every week. I just throw some pinto beans, water, salt and oil in there and set it for 49 minutes and walk away. I make a lot of refried beans with these beans. My husband prefers them with no extra seasoning. When I make refried beans out of them , I fry them in lard and mash them up. Living in San Antonio, we just have Tex Mex food all the time and frijoles are just a part of that. Sometimes we have beans at breakfast and dinner. I almost never, ever buy beans in a can! It’s also great to have some in jars. You never know when you might need some and there’s not any in the fridge❤️. You explained the process so well. The seasonings sound really delicious. The consistency of your refried look perfect. Loved that you were putting some on a tostada. We call them chalupas in San Antonio, topped with cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, salsa, etc…..sorry, I got long winded about one of my favorite foods❤
Oh my goodness, that sounds amazing as well. Unfortunately, I do not have an instant pot. I don’t know how I’ve lived so long without one, but I seem to do ok. I think I will survive. 🤣 I love the fact that you told me that the texture looked great and…oh my goodness, my mouth is watering as you talk about a Chalupa. That sounds absolutely delicious. I pretty much used a tortillas that way, but for some reason, coming from someone in San Antonio, it just sounds better! Thank you so much for commenting and I do not mind you being long-winded. I love learning about our viewers and getting to know you on a personal basis. Thank you so much for your kind words! You are a blessing to me! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
I do this! I live in northern Canada and refried beans cost almost $4.00 a can. I typically use pinto and or kidney beans and make a blend of similar spices that you have used here. My husband loves them so much he will take them out to the cabin and just eat them right out of the jar for lunch, or warm them up and eat them with his breakfast or with a sausage or pork chop for his supper. To us this is a perfect "ready to eat food". Nutritious and super affordable!
Oh my goodness, $4? Wow! That is crazy. I like to eat canned red beans just by themselves like your husband does with these. They go with anything! Or they can go in a bowl and add things on top like roasted broccoli and grilled chicken or some cheese. I love putting together bowls like that. Thanks so much for checking in and it was so good to hear from you! I love learning about our viewers and what life is like with you. You have blessed me today! 🤗😁
Kathy, I have definitely done that as well. Actually, I was sitting and thinking yesterday about how I wanted to can some and then they would be so easy to make soup out of. Thanks for reminding me! I don’t know who wouldn’t love cranberry beans they are so good! I did have my husband pick up some pinto beans the other day and I canned some of those as well because I wanted to compare them to the cranberry beans. Thanks so much for watching and for your comment. You have blessed my day! 😁🤗
Hi Penny! I have never tried canning beans as yet and definitely want to try your method! Thank you for the spice recipe as well! Thanksgiving blessings on you and your family dear friend! 🌻🐛🌿🙏💕👵🤗
I had no idea it was this easy to make re-fried beans. I used to always get them from Taco Bell and loved those but thought I couldn't do it. So, I have some pintos just sitting there calling to me. Let me tell you about a dried bean that I tried but had to order the dried beans to get them. The are Anasazi beans from somewhere called Adobe something. But they are so delicious. They were found in a cave high up in the mountains in SW USA in deserted LONG time ago by the Anasazi tribes. They were then sown and harvested. Once cooked, people loved them so much - they are higher in protein than other beans and are almost sweet in taste. Texture is wonderful and I ordered a huge bag of them for storage. I bet they would be good cooked this way and I will save some bacon gold to use. Thanks for this video as having them on hand would be so nice. Another thing, they don't need to soak overnight as they are not as hard but more like a split peas. You are always inspiring me to do something! Thanks.
Mary!…I ate the beans in the video like the Taco Bell beans with Taco Bell sauce and shredded cheddar on them. They tasted just like them! 😜 Those Anasazi beans sound amazing! I will have to look them up. Thanks so much for the soaking tip for pinto beans. 😁 You are always blessing me! 🤗😘
@@OpenHandFarm the Anasazi beans don't need soaking - but I think the pinto beans still do. Anasazi are just so tender and absorb quickly.Sorry for the confusion.
Hi sweetHolly, I hope if you can them they work as well for you as they did for me. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well my sweet friend! ❤️🤗
I just wanted to say thank you Penny. I needed to can beans and decided to try your recipe for one batch to have refried beans on the shelf. I have normally just used regular basic canned beans for them. Wow, what a wonderful recipe. I agree with you, I will double the recipe for each jar next time. They are delicious and that seasoning blend will be used for more than just canning beans 😋. Thank you for sharing and I enjoy your channel. Your Thanksgiving video was so sweet and it brought tears to my eyes. May God continue to bless you and yours 😊❤

Refried beans with no bacon fat ,😂 tell me its not so. Bacon fat makes beans mo bedder.😊
Oh I know that is so true! You feel free to add whatever fat you like! 🤗😂 Thanks so much for your comment! 😁
