If they had made him her mentor and a guide rather than her foil, this could have worked. Then again, making his life so damn miserable right out the gate was pathetic. Like Luke Skywalker, why do they need tear down the heroes people grew up on?

Excellent review, crystal skull is far superior in every way. Dail doesn't have that Spielberg magic, flare or sense of fun. Indiana Jones 5 is a boring mess which should never have been made

As said in the video, it’s pretty hard to compete with Spielberg in his prime. Thanks for watching!

Especially the decision to get him punched in the end whoever decide on it is one of the reason making it look bad.

Do you think Hollywood will inevitably go back to more practical effects and stunts? Because the cgi and greenscreen are the biggest reasons I'm avoiding this one, it's cheating to use that much in an Indy movie. They might as well have done the whole thing with mo-cap, or even better, made a second Tintin movie.

@jordanpatton3622 I don't even really like mo-cap animation but it was perfect for Tintin. It did such a good job of bringing the characters to life without being too uncanny, and the action scenes were great! It's a great example of how to adapt something to the big screen.

I wouldn’t say no to a second Tintin movie. But with so many bombs this summer I could see them cutting back and spacing out the huge 200 million films while bringing back the mid-budget action film.

@ajourneythroughcinema1271 if they keep going the way they are, they'll be making movies with Ed Wood-level special effects (which would probably be an improvement for some franchises)

Excellent review! When i was youngerm i absolutely loved the Indiana Jones movies, as they were fun Adventure flicks that you could enjoy. I am also one that does not automatically hate the fourth installement (even though it was pretty bad), it had some creative ideas and the feel of an actual Adventure film. But in the last decade Filmmakers seem to have forgotten how make fun films. Therefore, i already knew 10 years ago when this Film was first talked about, that it will be bad and i won´t go and see it. This just confirms to me that we shouldn´t expect old IPs like these to make a good comeback, but instead look for Films that are an actual joy to see.
Anyway, great Video man, you earned a new subscriber!

Got a feeling studio clowns trying to kill our heroes because they cannot create and they are power freaks but end up more flops.

Awesome review man i have to agree Spielberg was def missing and you can feel it, Indy was written so poorly like you did not want to go in and see an old man telling his neighbors to turn the music down and the way Helena character was written was so poorly done, i did a tier ranking for all the Indiana jones movies and this one was my least favourite movie

Hopefully this next week I will have another film flashback out for Mary Pickford and Poor Little Rich Girl. I’m working my way though 1917 films now and the full episode will be out when I close out the series of films I’m looking to watch. Takes much longer to get those out.

Every fan had a notional ‘Indiana Jones’ coda that wipes the floor with this dreary garbage. Without Kennedy, PWB, Mangold, etc. - imagine George Lucas retaining this specific IP, developing a script with Spielberg where Indy, Mutt and Marion have retired/relocated to Hawaii, using it as a base to write biographies, archaeological works, etc. Mutt avoids the Vietnam draft and is directed to new adventures by his parents or his instinct. Indy is more than content; he has a wonderful life with Marion, enjoys the total respect of his peers, is sought after by documentary makers, can chose to work as much or as little as he pleases. Mutt gets kidnapped on a trip to beautiful Petra with a female fellow archaeologist (and potential love interest), forcing Indy and Marion to meet up with Salah then track Mutt and, let’s call her Samantha (Kathryn Winnick) The third reel involves … well, whatever, but Indy going out in a blaze of glory saving the world from an Extinction Level Event by the Illuminati sounds better than ‘DoD’. It would take any fan less than an hour to come up with a more satisfying plot, a story with pathos, laughs, familiar tropes - not the time-travelling mess than primarily appealed to normies, unaware of the predictable sabotage we’ve come to expect from Kennedy, who must have been delighted to acquire the services of PWB. They went directly against the fan base one last time, yet Disney claim not to understand why this movies sucks. Premeditated sabotage by the director, ‘actress’, writer and producer never crossed their mind? They should be banned from working for Disney ever again.

Love or hate this movie. In my opinion this movie is ok not great not terrible just ok. There are a few good scenes in the movie and my favourite has to be the scene where indie talks about his son. Both actors did a great job in that scene and it was really depressing to hear about what happened to Mutt. I doubt any parent would want to go through what Indie went through. The only problem I had with the movie was Indies granddaughter. She's a great actress but I really didn't like her character in this

    1. Solo movie grossed $85 million in opening weekend and was a flop! 😃
    2. Indi 5 grossed $60 million in its opening weekend and was more expensive than Solo😄
    3. And now it's official: the already low box office dropped 68% in the second (short) week 😆 $40M in 5 days! 🤣
No one wants to see this junk.

Mangold is no director to write home about, with a bunch of derivative junk, the wildly overrated Logan, and the decent but far from extraordinary Cop Land and Ford vs Ferrari, and other mediocrities (Girl, Interrupted) in his resume. But then, only the first Raiders movie is really outstanding, with the second having a slew of problems (which seem to have been forgotten in the intervening years), and the third just clunky and corny. The Crystal Skull isn’t even worth talking about.

Same. The movie still felt relatively fun and lighthearted compared to a lot of adult action movies. For me, Crystal Skull was proof that and older Indy that still tried to act the same as he did in the OG trilogy just doesn't work. It came off as a bit desperate in that film. I liked the direction they took with him in Dial of Destiny. I think people have gotten too attached to the character and are afraid of change or evolution. The fact everyone seems to think the first 20 minute with the de-aging are the only good part of the film seems to hint at this.

Does any critic actually know the word "writer" anymore? I think the main problem with film is that people think celebrity directors are making the story. NO! Indy 5 is horrible because the story is horrible.Directors are irrelevant to story!! Blame the awful writers.
