I'd love to do this.
amazing video . thanks . where did you got this shield ?
2:41 wouldn't this shield position guide an incoming spear blow directly towards your face? 😅
This is what a real science is, finding the truth.
I loved this video. Thank you Tilo. We have just recently started training cutting with one handed spear and the results are surprisingly good. I wish to share my only video about the subject: ua-cam.com/video/5nEYEprSjqs/v-deo.html Thanks again from fantastic video. -Arttu
Looks very realistisk. Otomatik Horse archers was using same teknik. Right hand controling horse and pull left hand holding bow.
Amazing sir🙏
I learned a lot sir thanks
Bravo! Grad die Blocks mit den Beinschienen sind großartig! Und die daraus entstehende Entwaffnung bei 5:17, herrlich :)
I now consider archery as a form of martial art!
Very accurate depiction! Shooting an arrow from horseback without stirrups and illustrating how Scythians did it, made you a person who knows what he is doing as this technology was not yet developed. Nice attention to detail!
So sad i don't have any horse 😑
I’ve read in Arabic manuscripts how warriors could fight with lances, spears, swords and bows and even wrestle on horseback without the use of saddles. Of course that wasn’t the norm (or even recommended) But they trained exclusively without saddles and without stirrups, and were trained to jump on the horse instead of using stirrups to mount.
What bow are you using? And do you think the sythians used and form of Khatra?
As an archer from a country, where Skyphians lived 2 tausend years ago, I was wondering how they do mounted archery, how they shoot etc. Thank you for your research, it was very informative and interesting to watch! But I must say, that I use reverse draw with parfian (I hope I write this word correct 😅) shooting way, and it feels much more comfortable for me as mediterranean/ slavic draw. So it might be also some kind of taste or physiological thing :)
Impressive demonstration of ability and historical accuracy. Thanks a lot for this instructional video.
Interessant wäre die Frage: was, wenn der Speer nicht auf den Reiter, sondern auf das Pferd gerichtet ist? Gibt es eine Möglichkeit für den Reiter, das abzuwehren, ohne aus einer Formation auszubrechen?
Good work man.
😍
we just have to look at native americans for modern times. no saddles, and still use lances.
What a capable rider and a good horse 👍
What fabulous rider you are!
Maybe my favourite vid on UA-cam rn, grossartig!
Just subscribed to your channel, its so interesting !! Its a pity your channel has so fer views
I like the way you aproach archeology but i have a few remarks that undermine your conclusions. First holding the reins on your right arm. There are 2 reasons why i consider that not the case. 1: in 1973 my grandfathers uncle who served in the belgian cavalery during ww1 mounted my parents horse. A 4 year old mare which later evolved in an international jumping horse. After a few minutes he did everything with her without using the reins. Even an emergency stop from full gallop to standstill. Reins aren't necessary to controle a horse. 2 you hold the reins in your swordarm and the last thing you want, going into battle is something on that arm that might hinder your ability to wield your sword. Second the IHAA international horsebow archery Association has a type of competition named Korean track. In the multiple target run of 150 meters 5 targets are placed at 30 meters interval. Maximum time allowed is 23 seconds. Maximum 8 points are given for going faster 1 per second you go faster. A run of 15 seconds gives you the maximum points for speed allowed. This translades in a speed of 10m/s or 3 seconds between shots. Or 20 shots per minute. Or 66% higher than your estimate. It is safe to asume that a scythian warrior was faster
Yeah, he's just not that good at it and extrapolates that no one could be better than him. While, on the contrary, I would say it is probably safe to assume that the best horse archers we have today(not him) would have been mediocre in a time when it was some people's life, from birth to death pretty much, to stand on a horse and shoot. Also the idea that they would do no direct shot, instead shooting even higher when the enemy was near is completely ridiculous. it's very risky to shoot that high, wind will move the arrow, and you have no precision at all. If you are at a range good for direct shot you can do a direct shot, nobody is going to run in front of you faster than the arrow you released...
Except your way to heavy for most of these tiny horses and your litterally ripping their faces off
Handhabung funktioniert echt praktisch ,gut erklärt....habs gleich ausprobiert, muss nur besseren Köcher basteln....
How do you avoid the bow hitting the horse?
I see, so pedal grip would be much preferred fighting someone on a horse?
The German explanation makes this all the more clear and meticulously tested and practiced. The fun and adventure, animal stewardship, and more unanswered questions!? shows some great German ethics.
Zufällig nach Reiterbögen geschaut. Lustigerweise war ich schonmal auf dieser Reitanlage.
Video esplicativo...ma penso ci siano dei metodi molto più efficienti per tirare..soprattutto a cavallo
It's ridiculous, all the misconceptions we have about the mediaeval and ancient eras, which stem from the mis- and in-comprehension of 18th and 19th century authors. =(
Victorians ruin everything.

is part still 2 coming?
Yeah dude, we saw Karate Kid. Wax on, wax off.lol :p
10:16 It sort of looks like the man at arms in yellow is trapping the lance then elbowing the opponent in the face. heh Thank you for all these videos, I'm enjoying them all.
How tall are you in the video, and your general weight?
Those are critical data for understanding the results of this video (which I like a lot anyway).
come on guys, he is holding a ruler in his hands, you can estimate that his height is 1.75 meters )))
Invented in China around 500AD
Why didn’t Alexander use saddles for his cavarly?
They were’t wide spread at the time
whats your primary source for Scythian mounted archery and horsemanship?
nice
How long are the spears?
1.53cm.. Hahaha
It seems that a lance, especially a long, heavy lance with lance rest, is useless against an opponent on horse back one on one.
Will these technique still work with a lance rest? Were lance rest commonly used against opponent on horse back or against infantry?
Great!!!
I am finding your videos. Very nicely done.
This bow looks slim and grace, how can I get one?
Beautiful video!
