That's "The Gael" from the score of "The Last of the Mohicans" It sounded awesome in the Scope Arena, Norfolk Virginia. I go every year, and am never disappointed. We will go to the Tattoo in Edinburgh some day.

Try listening to the end of track #6 of "Greatest Hits, The Canadian Brass" and you'll hear what a piccolo trumpet is supposed to sound like when performing Sousa. Whether one is a fan of piccolo flute or piccolo trumpet, this lead part sounds way better when staccato tongued. Slurring this particular part is just bad on any instrument. Now, to hear what a good slur (legato tonguing) sounds like on a brass instrument, listen to Tommy Dorsey's "Marie." That has a very nice trombone lead part.

Of course this stands to reason. However it is great to have a fine lot of pipes and drums massed from NATO countries to perform here in Virginia. I've worked the Tattoo here for more than 10 years and it's always a pleasure to witness.

@Inuyasha8325 It's called a PICCOLO trumpet. Therefore you WILL get almost the same results from it than from a PICCOLO flute just with more of the brass edge.

I went to the Vanderbilt Competition and a band did this solo..Can't remember who though.

sorry you do alright but the scottish are the best pipers ever and the dance routine was used some years ago in scotland at edinburgh castle the true home of any tattoo

@EL3679 technicaly drummers were combatants, in the british army some were even given muskets if short of men. but i wasnt asking why r they in red i was asking why their turnbacks changed from white with blue hearts to blue with red. and their drums seem to have been switched to a more british fashion with red hoops, and white ears. which wouldnt have really been seen as often in the continental army.

@Airman410 Marine Musicians do that stuff via military tradition: it's called what we do at every daggone Marine Corps change of command, retirement ceremony, etc. This is our break from it and allows us to display more showmanship, which greatly adds to the versatility of the band.

@luqmanhakimMLHBB well it just my own personal "ignorant" opinion apparently. They just walk out there while the USMC is putting on an epic performance..and well it just kinda ruins the whole effect yano? the usmc band practiced for hours and hours to make it perfect...to be in step, in line, etc...and when the "douche camera dudes walk out there like they own the place it just....pisses me off a tad. sorry
