Roost Mud Prop- Drought resistant HDR 5000

Yep!!! It works on big boats too! You’ve probably seen the crazy shallow water capability of the Roost mud prop on the lightweight 1342 with the 23 EFI Mud Buddy Mini. As impressive at that little rig is, surely it must be cheating to use such a small rig! Wrong!!! Watch this Excel 1854 (.125” hull) with Mud Buddy HDR 5000 do the EXACT SAME THING!!!! You might not have believed it if you hadn’t...

Now you need to make a PD 1" hex for the Pro Drive. Pro Drive owners don't have any options for props.
It’s in the works!
Have you thought about making a higher pitch prop for high HP motors?
Yes. We will offer other sizes in the future. Stay tuned!
I'm sold!
Great friends
Will either one fit the pro drive hex shaft?
No, unfortunately they won’t. The ProDrive hex is 1”, instead of 3/4” like the two mentioned in the video.
impressive, I woulda had to get out and carry my boat, lol.
Im in Quebec Canada, do you want to ship me one if i buy ?
Unfortunately, we are only shipping within the US at this time.
How does these props do in deeper water ?
They do well. They have good top end and carry a load well. Biggest thing to remember is to trim up quite a bit higher than with a conventional mud prop. In full water depth it’s best to keep half the prop in the water for full speed. Trimming up super high, like in this video, is to let you run super shallow water without wearing down the prop or getting stuck.
Loves yalls props. Pushes my turboed prodigy 1860 VERY well under load. Hole shot is dumb to say the least
Glad you love it! The Roost is definitely good at getting the HP to the water.
@RoostMarineLLC I certainly do. Very good low end torque and not too bad on the top end either
I thought only longtails could do this. What's the point in having a longtail, then?
It does make ya wonder… With the Roost you get longtail capability for your surface drive, without losing the speed and drivability that surface drives are known for. There are advantages to longtails, but that list has gotten shorter since the introduction of the Roost.
All I know is it’s good if your hopping trees to have a long tail. It’s safer to clear the prop from the log but honestly I’ve never had a surface drive so I can imagine it can prob hop logs easily too
You’ll never get longtail capability even with that. My godevil 23 walks grass compared to my buddies mud buddy 40 with a roost. Helps but the longtail would’ve been out at the first pull of the throttle
i replaced my raptor three blade that had very poor performance to a roost 2 blade and it works very well
I see you don't seem to do props for threaded shafts so rules me out.
That’s correct. We don’t offer anything for threaded shafts right now.
This just so fits with the issues me and my mate think about in our hunting rig a G3 15*48 VBW with a Copperhead 23 with a MAC exhaust and limited to 4300. Our hunting locallity is square kilometers of estuary lagoon that is 4 inches to 1.5 foot deep and is water over sticky/firm mud and sand. We used to go through 2 props a season but manage things a bit better now. What prop do you think would suit us. We do OK with the C12 but load carrying over the stiff mud shallows is our main area for improvement. We like the boat to be on a plane so over 13mph. We do overload it a bit with 400lbs of hunter, 140lbs of lab, 36 decoys and hunting and boat gear.
Does you re propeller fit on a GO-Devil surface drive 40 efi ?
Neither the MB HEX or GT HEX are intended to fit on a GoDevil, but some have found the GT HEX to fit to their satisfaction. The biggest issue is they don't have the counterbore on the lower unit end, so they don't fit all the way onto the GoDevil prop shaft. We are working on a GoDevil specific version that should be available soon, so stay tuned!

I don't understand how the boat is moving so fast when less than half the prop is in the water? Is there another prop or something?
Nope! Just one prop. That’s what makes the Roost mud prop so awesome. It keeps you going even where there’s very little prop in the water. We also have another video doing the same thing with a bigger boat too.
@@RoostMarineLLC That's cool. Thank you for the reply. Your website talks about the prop not needing to go deep into the mud but uses the water on top. What if you get into mud though? Real mud mud. Is it gonna push me through?
@@andys5562 Mud is not required for the Roost to perform well, but when you do find yourself in lots of mud, the Roost does amazing. It has a ton of grip in the mud and will provide that grip with less submersion than conventional mud props.
HOW MANY MEN IN BOAT
One man, one lab, boat blind, misc gear. This boat is running the low altitude gear ratio at high altitude.
i ordered one i hope it fixes my isse which is i cant get on plane with three dudes in boat withh a 993 cc motor
Sick!
Como eu posso fazer para adquirir um desse
which prop is this and will it work well in deep water planing . if it will im ordering right away
This is the Roost 12.25x11. It does work in deep water too.
Most badass prop on the market imo!!!
🥰😁💪💪
Why is your motor jumping so much?
Because the bottom is very hard packed and bumpy. Plus there’s a lot of packed down phragmites. It’s jumping because the skeg is hitting all that and is unable to go through it, so it bounces over it.
Impressive! what speed what can you get with this boat/motor/prop combination? thanks!
At the 4200 ft elevation where this was filmed, that boat will hold 31.5 mph.
That was cool!
Ditch Devil would have u free and clear in no time at all. Hell it will work in waterless mud.
Good job.
Show de bola viu!
Was that provo bay 2022?
No. That’s the south end of Harold Crane where gets super shallow.
I've got to say. Your videos (and all the others) do these tests and demos with no load. Lets see these demos and tests with 4 adult men, a dog, a full load of decoys, shells, guns, etc.
It is what it is, water props need water… lol. Don’t stop.
Awasome... ❤❤❤❤...
I got that roost prop on my boat. That rig will plow I ran with 3 people full gear through dry shit from a dead stop I picked up extra speed. Open water im 28 mph in a 1200 lb boat . I love it only prop I will ever own.
What boat is this?
It’s a custom built light weight 1342 flat bottom boat.
@@RoostMarineLLC thanks for the info
Awesome
Can I ask about the skeg you have on the frame of the unit. Are you noticing less or if any dragging now compared to just the oem face?
Sure! If I understand your question correctly, the skeg on the Mud Buddy Mini is different from the one on the HDR. The HDR leaves the face of the drive box exposed. The Mini has the skeg wrapping under the bottom to the front of the drive box. The motor in this video is a Mini. When you say dragging, do you mean dragging on the bottom or catching weeds or something else?
That's f****** bad-ass
What would work better for this a longtail or surface drive? I am very new to mud motors and I plan on buying a complete setup this month.
That’s a very complex question. The short answer is in general most folks would recommend a longtail, since they are historically known for their four wheel drive type of performance. Surface drives have historically struggled in these kinds of conditions, but the Roost prop is changing that. Ultimately, it comes down to the entire setup (motor +boat +prop). I’ve run both longtails and surface drives, and none of my longtails could have dreamed of pulling off what the surface drive did in this video. If you want to be able to crawl over anything, a longtail is the way to go. If you want to go through nasty conditions and go fast, a surface drive with a Roost prop is the way to go. In the case of this video, I needed rapid acceleration and speed to shoot the section of dry grass. If you have further questions about this, please give us a call and we’d be happy to walk you though this.
I live in south Florida. I mainly boat where there is extremely thick vegetation like in this video. The water is also very shallow. It would be more ideal for an airboat, but unfortunately I cannot afford one right now. Right now these are what I’m deciding between Welded alumacraft 1446 Gx690 25hp mud buddy mini. Very light boat like the one in this video. Welded 1655 Jon boat. Has a 2023 backwater longtail 40hp. Boat seems pretty heavy but it is a flat bottomed boat with a lot of hp. The guy claims it hits 30mph. Would I be able to run that prop on the longtail rig or just the surface drive?
@@Gibson_Nutt Big boats with lots of horsepower and speed sound great until you get them stuck. With a light weight rig, you can just get out drag it. Plus in general they will start in less water than the big boats. Those Backwaters are legit, but that's going to make for a heavier rig. If the 1446 is a flat-bottom, I would choose that with the Mud Buddy. You should be able to get right about 30 mph out of that Mud Buddy with a Roost on it. The rig in the video holds 30.5 all day at 4200 ft elevation. The Roost would only fit on the Mud Buddy. It's too big to fit on the Backwater.
Very impressive. What’s your setup?
The motor is a Mud Buddy Mini 23 EFI with 34/48 gearing on a custom built 1342 lightweight flat bottom hull and of course a Roost prop.
Heck yeah!!! Love my roost prop!!

Yep. There may be better ways to accomplish this like an adjustable torque tab, but this is how manufacturers like Mud Buddy and Gatortail have decided to adjust tiller torque.
