It's good you managed to make it to Baguio. It's a very genteel place, with more "European" vibe. Let me add to your historical and other trivia. The famouse architect urban planner Daniel Burnham was involved in the urban plan of Baguio (and parts of Manila). You can google him. The Cordilleras has the highest HDI (human development index) in the whole country, and the 5th highest per capita income. Most tourists esp westerners trek to the rice terraces, sagada and as far as Buscalan (famous for Wang Od, the tatoo artist). Baguio has a lot of intl students, mainly from Asia, Africa and Middle East. I'm glad you mentioned Gen Yamashita and his surrender. My dad at the tail end of the was with the US forces that fought up there in the mountains. Btw., no one has found Gen Yamashita's gold hoard yet.
