SWF Orvis Waranty Rod Repair
Recently I had a Boneheaded moment and broke an Orvis fly rod. Totaly my fault but Orvis has a 25 year waranty and I thought why not make a video of the process to get my rod repaired. I have to say that I am very impressed with the Orvis customer service. I was completely upfront that everything was my fault but it did not matter. Orvis quickly repaired the rod and sent it back to me. I only paid for the shipping. I am not sponsored by Orvis. I get nothing from them. I seriously doubt they know my chanel exisits. The opinions shared in this video are my own with no bias. Thanks for watching and don't forget to Like and Subscribe, SWF.

What color to use is definately one of the most commonly asked questions. I personally have several colors that I love and routinely use but if I had to chose one color, if I could only have one fly it would be a white or silver side and dark top baitfish. If you want one fly the simulates a typical baitfish probably in all types of water anywhere on earth, it's a white side dark top baitfish. ...

What brand of craft for are you using? I’ve noticed there is a huge variation in quality
Do you ever have issues with tails fouling around the hook with these craft fur flies? Enjoy your videos. Please keep them coming.
I have learned that if I use fewer and smaller clumps of CF I have less problems with fouling. I try to use only one clump in the tail. The hook determines if my next clumps are at the head or if I need to make a body section. If I make a body section the top middle section will be longer than the bottom middle section. Keeping the bottom shorter helps with fouling. If your CF is long enough for the hook you selected, try dubbing the center of the hook and tying in the CF at the head of the fly. This can make the fly look amazing in the water and help with fouling. In the water, the body will show through the CF. I am also using less CF these days and am substituting it with Fin Racoon when possible. They are similar in apperance and function but the Fin Racoon doesn't foul like CF. Fin Racoon can be difficult to find and it's not a good substitue for all my CF flies, but definately worth testing. Thank you very much for this coment. You just gave me a great Idea for a future video. Thanks for watching, SWF.
Nicely tied. Flatwings are superb fish catchers. They work particularly well for longer minnow or small eel imitations (like sand eels). I used to fish flatwings weighted in the front with a cone or bead so they would have an up & down motion to take advantage of the flat wing.
Agree, thanks for watching, SWF.
Nice looking fly. I know browns in my area will eat this for sure. Quick tip: Use a double-sided razor. So much sharper, and the blades are thinner, so you can bend the blade to help shape the deer hair heads!!
Thanks for the tip, I actually prefer the double sided razor. I have been unable to find them in my area so I mail order them. It's time to place a new order. Thanks for watching and good luck catching, SWF.
@@slickwillyfly7158A local drug store should carry double edged razor blades in the shaving supply section.
Hi Slick Willy! where did you find the pattern for the SWF Clouser Muddler fly at? I've got all of Bob's books and that pattern is not in any one of his 3 books. I could tie it from your video, but I do a better job learning a new fly with the actually pattern along side of me at the vice. Thanks for making this video and letting folks know this pattern is real and can be tied.
We actually developed this fly ourselves over many years of trial and error. I spent a lot of my youth fishing the South Florida Back Country. It was a lot of shallow mangrove coastlines with either grass or oyster bottom. Like most we love the Clouser Minow and tie it in all sizes and with many different materials. With the Muddler variant we found it doesn't sink as quickly but still swims hook up which is a must. This gave us the time to start working the fly and avoid getting hung on the bottom. Marabou is one of my favorite tying materials. Marabou comes to life in the water. The slightest movement or current makes the Marabou wiggle but if I am fishing really shallow water, I often use an all deer hair Clouser Muddler variant. I try to have a variety of sizes and styles every time I head out. Thanks for watching and good luck catching, SWF.
@@slickwillyfly7158 Is there any chance to get a recipe in a pdf on how to tie it? I don't do a good job at trying to tie a new fly from a video. You did a good a good job with the video, I just get really frustrated having to start and stop the video and having to go back and forth because of something I missed. I really want to tie this fly and try it in Montana where I live with brown and rainbow trout. Thank you for any help you can offer.
@@mtgrizzly52 I have never written any formal instructions on how to tie a fly but I don't mind taking care of this for you. I do need a little time to get this done. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoyed it. My family loves that soup. Be on the look out for a Chickpea Soup. It's a family favorite in my house. Super simple and perfect on a cold winter day, SWF.
My husband has a muddler variant tied on a matuka body with the muddler head. That flatwing is clever as well. Subscribed
That sounds like a deadly combo. I often tie a Clouser Muddler combo that is deadly and your coment has motivated me to make a video of that fly. It should be published soon. Thanks for watching and good luck catching, SWF
Got a tarpon on a very similar pattern this year. Saw this pop up in my recommended, wanted to drop a comment and a like. Best of luck on the channel!
That sounds awesome, do you have any pictures? of the fish or the fly or both? Thanks for watching and good luck catching, SWF
Looks fantastic!
It is! My family loves it. I plan to make a Cuban Split Pea soup that I learned to make from my Grandmother. I will definately post it before the end of winter.
@@slickwillyfly7158 I made a batch yesterday. I forgot the carrot, but it came out really well. I'd love to give the split pea a try.
Congrats on 400 subscribers! Keep up the good work. I'm going to tie up a Big Tasty soon and give it a try.
I highly recoment it. Remember to use the right hook for your target fish. I try not to push brands on my videos but I don't mind in the comments section. For Big Trout and Salmon I like the Kamassan B983. For large Rainbows and Browns I use a size 6 sometimes a 4. For salmon I often use the same hook in size 4 and 2. My PB Atlantic Salmon on fly was an 18# fish on a Orange and Black size 4 Big Tasty. I think I get a really good Hook Up ratio with the B983. For Saltwater I often use the Mustad 34007 from a size 4 to 2/0. I have caught many Tarpon, Snook Redfish and Speckled Trout with this fly. I also like the SC15. The 34007 can get long in the larger sizes. Don't forget to go to my instagram and try to win the contest fly. Good luck catching, SWF.

What vise is that? It's cool looking. I'm definitely going to subscribe to your channel. Great work.
It is a very inexpensive vise called a Dana Vise. I have had it for about 4 years and so far it works for me. If you ask me the pros and cons I would sa a big Pro is that I can firmly fit large hooks in the clamp. I have tied many 4/0 saltwater flies on this vise. On the cons side I wish the base would have been a little heavier and the clamps are too bulky for really small dry flies. I mostly tie large flies so I make it work on those ocasions when I tie freshwater flies. I personally am not made of money and have a kid in college so the price was a big part in chosing this vice. I'm born in the 60s so my grandparents and parents survived the World Wars and the depresion meaning regardless of my economic cituation I plan to use this vise until it breaks.
What brand is your dubbing comb? I really like the size of it. Great fly btw
I also love that comb. I have no idea the brand. It has no writing on it, but I can tell you that I picked it up at my local pharmacy. It is actually inteded for lice. You will find it where they sell the lice shampoo. It was a 2 pack with a longer and shorter variant. The one in the video is the longer. Thanks for watching and good luck catching, SWF.
Check out at ospreyflyfishers fly box. There are some bone fish flies in the “others” section. I believe they’ve been proven exactly in Mexico
Dude! Your Tie's are fantastic and work well in Australia as well 😊
Thanks for your kind words. I only make videos of flies that I use and get bites. Thanks for watching and good luck catching, SWF.
I would be inclined to thread wrap the hook for more adhesion even tho u are using resin, yes or no, pros & cons to this?
That's a great idea. I am going to give it a try. SWF
Very interesting fly. I might try a version of that on salmon.

I really appreciate the feedback. I have recently ordered a new camera that I am hoping will help me solve some of my video issues. Good luck catching, SWF.
will Sea trout in Tampa Bat chase this?
I have spent countless hours fishing on the West Coast but ususally south of Naples. If I was on the outside, for example on a grass flat around Pavillion Key, the Dinner Bell is definately a fly I would use. I might also use a large Big Tasty, a Cllouser Minow or any of my Critter varients. Those are all solid choices that produce fish. I often start with a large fly and work my way smaller until I start getting bites. I find that the Snook tend to like the larger flies. If I start getting a lot of Ladyfish action,I try to use a heavier fly, I try to get it closer to the bottom. I have had luck getting into the specs and away from the Ladyfish that way. If you think there might be some Tarpon around you need to consider the hook size. More than once have I hooked a surprise Tarpon while searcing for Snook or Redfish. I hope this helps and I hope you will send some fish pictures. Good Luck Catching, SWF
Hi Slick Willy (William Sutton) and two others escaped from Holmesburg Prison, Willy was caught, Frederick J Tenuto has never been caught to my knowledge and the other guy was shot and killed a few blocks from the prison. They were the only people ever to escape from Holmesburg. They have some documentaries on that escape Ron C Ruskin FL
Don't know if you know how the name ''slick willy'' got started. He was a bank robber in Philadelphia who escaped from Holmesburg Prison in the 40s and was recaptured. When asked why he targeted banks to rob, he replied ''that's where the money is" Ron C Ruskin FL
Great story, I did not knkow any of that. My version of Slick Willy was from my daughter when she was about 7 or 8 years old. We had just arrived at the boat ramp after a great day on the water and some people that had watched us were asking her uncle about the flies we were using. He was explaining that we tie our flies when my daughter jumped into the conversation and explained they are Slick WIlly Flies. It was very surprising because she was normally very shy but the name stuck. Thanks for watching the video and good luck catching, SWF.
It’s always great to see your videos. Thanks for sharing. Semper Fi
Willie 🤯 awesome tie, don't live where there's snook but warm water species like bass or crappie would go ga ga over it,the marabou & rubber legs give it wiggle wiggle something fish can't resist, tight lines 🤙
I know they will work great for you.

Slick Willie yet again,awesome job & a very simple but effective pattern,the color combos & variations are endless & it catches fresh or saltwater fish,my favorite colors are gray & white ( shad),all white,chartruse & white,olive & white & purple & black,tight lines 🤙
Nice fly
Hi I have two Danvise left. I have all the others, Renzetti's, Norvise, HMH, Stonfo, Dyna King, Regal, Peak, Wolff as well as a myriad of others. I found over the years that the Danvise is easiest to adjust the jaws for any range of hooks. I see others don't like it, but I do. Use it all day and that is 7 days a week. The others require too much time fooling with them to make an adjustment. So, for me, I like the Danvise and I am sure that it is my problem that I don't like the others as much as the one I am using. Keep up the tying and videos. Ron C Ruskin FL
Hi Noticed that you are using a Danvise. I taught fly tying a number of years back and bought 10 of them. I have 2 of them now. I also have about 18 other vises. Truth is, I like the Danvise better than any of my other vises. It is the only vise that I can tie on that does not require a lot of adjustments on the jaws. I have seen a lot of bad publicity on this vise, but it is my go to vise. Love using mine and I tie about 5 hours each day. Keep on tying and good luck. Ron C Ruskin FL
My Danvise works for me. I have often considered buying a high end vise but its hard to spend the money while my Danvise is not broken. While I am comfortable, I don't consider myself rich. I need to consider how I spend my dissposable income and in my current situation, I would rather spend more on fishing than on tying tools. I will be tying on my Danvise until it breaks, if it ever does. On that day, I will purchase the vise that makes sense for me then. Thanks for watching and good luck catching, SWF.
Awesome Job 👍
Thanks, good luck catching, SWF.

Well done Slick Willy I use muddlers all the time in 954/305 for all the usual suspects. Go Panthers! It was a great SC Win and the parade was just as awesome!
Sorry I took so long to reply. I've been doing some traveling. The SC was awesome. I live in Sweden which is hockey crazy so I was able to watch all the games. We have watched several celebration videos. They looked great. I have also ordered SCC shirts and hats for the family.
Super cool fly looks great with the yellow eyes My favorite color combo Keep up the great inspiration 6/28 8:45 pm
I agree, the yellow eyes look great, but I always have some with red eyes. For some reason I think I get more bites from Saltwater species with red eyes. I might be a little supersticious. Thanks for watching, Good luck with the contest, SWF
Congrats on 300 subscribers 👏 black & purple is always awesome color in low light or dirty water, use a black & purple Clouser Minnow for bass & do great, this is a great place to sub out the purple bucktail with faux bucktail by Fish Skull a little stiffer & make a great prop for the rabbit strip😊
I'm really gIlad you like the fly. I love the black and purple when im fishing in Chockoloskee on the west coast of South Florida. I learned to use that color combo when I was visiting a friend that lives in Louisiana. I actually have a few flies that I tie with Faux Bucktail but I try to not push too many brands. I tie some streamers where I blend colors and I find that the Faux Bucktails is great for blending colors. I blend it with enough natural Bucktail so that the flies have some good action. I can definately see how it would work great on the contest fly. I'm going to need to order some. Thanks for the tip and for watching the video. Good luck catching, SWF.
I love flies that are simple but effective. I can't wait to try this in a smaller version for speckled trout and/or redfish here in Louisiana.
That sounds great, remember to use a heavy enough hook so that the fly keels correctly. Don't forget that the zonker needs to be completely wet for it to sink and swim for you. I would love to see a picture of your creation and some fish pics would be amazing. Good luck catching, SWF.

Thx again and well done on the 300 👍 They are also a great Barramundi fly.
I have never fished for Baramundi. It would be great if you could send a picture. Good luck catching, SWF.
Nice tie.
I never use stainless hooks on flies for fresh water. If it happens to break off in a fish’s mouth it’s there for a long time. Regular hooks will eventually rust and fall out. Mashing the barb would help. Nice clouser pattern though. Just my thoughts.
I see your point and will probably reconsider my approach. Before moving to Sweden 90% of my fishing was saltwaterr and ocasionally I would fish for Largemouth or Peackock Bass in South Florida. Now I spend a fair amount of time chasing Pike and Trout. I never use stainless on my trout flies but I should probably stay away from stainless hooks for the Pike. Thanks for the tip. SWF
So enjoy your videos,I am your 299th subscriber!
I already have the 300 subscriber video ready to publish. Im just waiting for it to hapen. Thanks for watching and subscribing. Good luck with the next contest video. SWF
imho way too much material's used. ep fibers are pretty stiff and can keep shape of the fly without making it bulk. the sparse the fly the less water it holds and the easier it's to cast.
Thanks for the tip, I haven't had a problem casting these but I will definately tie some with less materials and give it a try. I always appreciate constructive feedback. SWF

Big Tasty, sounds good enough to eat.....
The fish agree. I learned to tie the Big Tasty about 30 years ago, when I met my wife's brother and I often joke that learning this pattern is the best thing that came from us getting together. He had learned the pattern from friends in Sweden and they used it chasing Browns, Rainbows and Char. For decades we called it our Marabou Fly. I was living in South Florida and chasing inshore saltwater fish. Both of us sharing story after story of new personal best fish. About 10 years ago I moved to Sweden so that my wife could take care of her elderly parents but the Big Tasty remained my mst productive fly. Then one summer my best friend from Florida came for a visit and we took a 6 week fishing trip to Norway and Northern Sweden and caught so many fish and were having such a great itme that the name Big Tasty was born. There are dozens of videos on Marabou Streamers. Marabou is a great tying material but I really think that removing the stem and using the dubbing loop to attach the Marabou makes this version really durable. Thanks for watching and good luck catching, SWF.
can not understand why more viewers are not hitting that LIKE button....oh well, their loss
while watching I am following your advice and wrapping the thread around the hair before wrapping around the hook, seems to look better in my opinion....thanks.........

@@johnthomas5806 The wrap around trick works great when I want to keep the colors seperated. Sometimes I want to blend the colors and don't use it, it all depends on what fly I am making.
