This predecessor to "Street Hassle" as we know it has a repetitive riff not unlike the strings of the album version, and Lou described Rachel as a character in both songs. It was printed in various journals and other poetry media under the titles "Street Hassling," "Miss Lawless," and "Street Hassleing" [sic]. It circulates on one bootleg with the title "Affirmative Action' but I've never seen ...

10 August 1978 Eindhoven, NL filmed by Ignacio Julia - his recent book Linger On, about the Velvets and the members' following careers and lives, came out last year. It's THE BEST book on the market about the VU. For real, buy it now. It's the bible for the Velvet Underground as far as I'm concerned. He is such a talented and hardworking researcher, journalist and writer. Lou Reed: guitar, voca...

This is an awesome rendition of the first intro and thank you for posting this. As legend would have it Lou Reed told Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner.... "Uh... I want you to write an intro to "Sweet Jane..... for tonight". And they said OK. Lou in comparison with the "Rock and Roll Animal" recording, waits a REALLY long time to enter here. He must have been blown away by the "INTRO". Strange how Lou's mic is not live for "standin on the corner, suitcase in my hand" opening line! Eh, gremlins!
fantastic find as always michael!
: )
Bestiale
What a freaking groove this has and Lou spewing massive bile. Haha
Those guitars are incredible!!!
Is there anymore out takes from Sally Can't Dance?
It's very tinteresting that in this recording you have all of the major tenents and application for the following concerts. What is magic is when the engineers and editing crew got a hold of the tapes, they mastered the ultimate version of what is heard on "Rock and Roll Animal". The depth that the final version has rivals "The Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East".
So does anyone know, when they opened the show with Vicious, did they play Sweet Jane later in the set? 🤔
hi please do you have the complete concert ? best regards from france emmanuel
Reminds me of ennui
If they would’ve made a documentary on street hassle this should’ve been the ending song
Increíble todas las versiones raras que conseguiste y compartes.. Se agradece mucho...
It's interesting to hear the rough cut of such a beautiful song. I like the extra nonchalance that Lou puts into this.
What’s the band?
What a brutal and emotional performance
Do you know every Lou Reed outtake that is available to hear
oh, man 🖤😸
Love this track -- Danny Weiss is such an underrated guitarist.
Helll yeah😎😎😎
this is fucking killer. thundering bass
K's Dadd here, saw Lou 3/4 times in the 70's. Saw this tour and this album has to be one of the best live Rock albums ever! It still sends shivers down my spine.
Another take: this jazz-inflected period in the '70's yielded very little of lasting value to his catalogue - and I liked Street Hassle and The Bells (mostly). But, it was an undeniably marked drop off from his innovative writing and song composition from the VU days, just a few years earlier. "Oooh sweet mama?" This is embarrassing and it's the substances: whatever they did for him back then caught up with him here. For another thing (or is it the same thing?), he relies way too much on his band, but garage band "virtuosity" was never his appeal or the medium of his art. And is it worth saying that these songs are really quite abysmal? What did they call this stuff, "cock rock?" It's got E.D.
Lou❤❤❤
According to Danny Fischelscher Popol Vuh only did three or four concerts in total, so this must be a rare recording.
So glad to have found this. Thank you
A bit like "Leave Me Alone" a sort of boogie riff, mixed with an almost You Really Got Me groove! The lyrics sound as if they're made up on the spot - as he used to do back in the VU days. I quite enjoyed it.
Fuck yeah lol ❤
I remember your Reed covers nice to see you still here
@@eterrna thanks man, I had a bit of a hiatus with health issues and poverty forced me to climb a corporate ladder Happy to say I'm back and done with all that lol 🤘 new album dropping soon, and more Reed covers of course
@@EmmettSherlock happy to hear that
Love you dude!!
@@weaponsetc forever and ever man! ❤️❤️❤️
I think Lou had just heard the sex pistols
I think The Sex Pistols heard Lou Reed a lot.
Lou a fait le premier et seul disque punk avant même la naissance du punk . Ce disque s'appelle Métal Machine Musique. Personne n'est jamais allé aussi loin que Lou Reed.
What if Lou had been somehow backed by 90's Guided By Voices? It might have sounded like this. Nice photo of Rachel.
merciiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
bortkasta
I miss Lou.
du er ond
Check "Pass Thru Fire", page 406, there you have the title: "Affirmative Action (PO #99)". The riff was later recycled for "Sex With Your Parents".
Funky Lou! I love it.
Even for Lou this is pretty bizarre. Sounds like a Velvet Underground meets Roxy Music meets post punk Wire mashup.
Such a perfect description.👏
My favorite song of all time
Top 10 for me also his best solo song by far
THX GABI
I miss Lou.
Cool riff
Fantastic to hear an early version of this classic number. The Rock and Roll Animal version of this song is hands down one of the best tracks ever recorded
😅🎉
Lou Reed is not R.R.A
Lou is more than R.R.A
the best rock guitarist duo bar none
It's a chuckle for me to hear our performance live. I thank whomever recorded this. It is still as fresh as when I remember performing at the keyboards fifty years ago
NOW THAT is some cowbell of the Gods!
Is this released on any of the albums?
I think he wants to play football for the coach
ALL WRONG! SORRY, BUT NOT SISTER RAY! ALL WRONG!
I thought it wasn’t Sister Ray till I heard the lyrics! It is Sister Ray! Never heard this I don’t think!
