Best Air Quality Monitors 2024! - Do You Need One?
@Housefresh Please can you do a video on the Qingping Co2 monitor with WiFi that has a longer battery life and is cheaper than the more popular Qingping Lite co2 monitor
How do these compare to something like followes? I have a budget up to $2,000 but prefer to stay closer to $1,000. Live in a master bedroom in Arizona here in the US. Live in Tempe which is right next to Phoenix so air quality isn't great. I'm more focused on overall health and longevity.
HI and thanks for the reviews you put up. I couldn't see a review for the Philips Pure Protect Mini 900 Series Smart Air Purifier (AC0951/13) model from 2024, so I am posting this comment here. A word of warning to potential purchasers though, as Philips have had no spare filters for this model since launch! There are no alternative filter suppliers for this model, so I am amazed that Philips or Versuni are actually allowed to keep selling them! Would welcome your comments or any other info from you concerning this if you happen to have some info we may not be aware of. I already returned 1 back to Amazon, but couldn't find anything that meets my needs, so like an idiot, re-purchased it again! But now having been in touch with Philips atrocious customer support, I can again see there are no filters available and they can't even tell us if and when they will have them, not can Amazon! So looks like I'll be returning this again if I don't get an update from them at the end of the week.
Which would you recommend 5500-2 or the Zero-S ?
I would pick the 5500-2 due to the fact it will come with the pelleted carbon filter vs the fabric carbon.
@HouseFresh how about 5300 or 5500? I really appreciate your help.
Thanks for videos very useful 🙏🙏 couple of questions , have you ever tried Electrolux air purifiers? What you think ? And in here your video shows the IQAir AirVisual pro, what you think?
Only trust hepa... not HVAC filters and computer fans? I've heard hepa is inefficient and really needs high fan speeds to work.
The problem is that HEPA reduces airflow by quite a bit so you need bigger fans to push enough air through. With smaller devices you are better are with lower grade particle filters to get a more effective air purifier.
Do you recommend this model? Looking at the 411i max. Curious your take? Just watched your 211 review of the older model. From my understanding this uses similar ionizing technology just on a smaller scale. Would this be decent in a living room? Or just small bedrooms?
Best for a smaller room. It’s very similar to the 211 tech so depends on if you are good with the ionizer used all the time.
Hello Danny, please review Hive by Praan. It's made in India, is gaining a good reputation, and they have recently started selling it in the U.S. too.
Will check them out! thanks for sharing.
Bullshit. Levoit are very bad purifiers. A German magazine called "Stiftung Warentest", sponsored by Germany and completely professional and neutral tested the core 400s and vital 200s. Both had very bad results when tested with formaldehyde, gases and toluol. The core 400s got a grade 4 of 6 in air purification so the third worst grade possible. Better buy an ideal purifier. They have the best specification in power as well as air purification. The only bad thing is they dont have a good app.
What is your professional recommendation🙏for wildfires specifically where entire 10000+buildings/neighborhoods burned down like in California currently?😔
@IntegrityMeansAll The ideal ap 40 pro has over 600m³/h. Thats massive. Even more then the vsst levoit. Paired with the best air purification is this the best purifier. Maybe make some research to compare it to the 50 pro or even 60 pro. They may be better...
Looks like a good CADR for the price of 200 euros, but they say it's 433,3 m3/h for the Ideal AP40 Pro. The carbon looks impregnated, though fabric which usually isn't as effective as pelleted type. Can you share the study that compared the formaldehyde, gases and toluol with this unit vs the Levoit Core units? Thanks for sharing this brand, as I have not seen it before - I will look at testing at some point in the future and comparing it with the other air purifiers we have reviewed.
@@HouseFresh Which one would you recommend in this specific case? I also mentioned more details in the other response in regards to all the heavy metals toxins etc..😔
@@IntegrityMeansAll For VOC's I would look at something like the IQAir GC Multigas but be aware you would still need to have a device for removing particles. The IQAir Healthpro plus has 5lbs of carbon and Hyper HEPA which might be a good middle ground. Be aware they are not cheap but outside of a having a custom HVAC system this are the best devices on the market.
Have you seen the new 5520 yet? Would love to know your thoughts. And wondering when it’ll come to the Uk
I am in the process of working on our review for the 5510 which I think is very similar to the 5520 but with a different design. Uses same filter, CADR, wattage...etc Hopefully will come to the UK but will have my review out in a few weeks.
I have Philips 600 for my smallest room, I couldn't find it in your channel, have you had a chance to test that one as well?
Haven’t yet but will do at some point. I think it’s quite similar to the 800 series.
They all seem to be crap.
Those that use the good sensors like Plan tower and sensiron are pretty accurate.
I think the fact that the Nukit uses 2 inch thick HVAC filters as opposed to the 1 inch thick filters the other PC fan kits use, sets it apart.
Yes this is a good benefit although 2 inch filters are even hard to find outside of US.
Any update on the Philips 4200?🤞🏼
Looks interesting design is similar to this model. Will try to get to soon.
All of your reviews are great. This channel has to have more subscribers and likes for sure :D Do you know whether the alternative filters have features other than more carbon? For example, I was using the green antibacterial/antimold filter for my Core 300 but than learned that the filter is treated with silver and it may emit some of it. Do you have any knowledge about these two regarding any type of treatment like I mentioned?
Thank you and I am super happy to see so many people enjoying our reviews - i always assumed it would only be a tiny niche but every day I am so happy to see more people subscribe and like :D I haven't heard about the issues with the antimold filter although I would expect if any is emitted it would also be caught by the particle filter so likely to be removed very quickly. If you are concerend then just stick with the regular filter.
Which one is better for smaller particulate sizes?
Due to the way particle filters work, all of them work well against smaller particles than the .3 microns. If yuo are concerned about first pass filtration only - then a higher grade of HEPA would be better so the Winix. But air purifier work with many passes of air so first pass % isn't as important as lower grade means more airflow so quicker to clean.
maybe one day do a long term comparison with Austin stuff. I end up getting one of those to pair with a Dyson big boy. Crazy but I get super low noise with consistent air cleaning and when I need to clear it our the Austin comes on. I did the math an dover 5 years since those filters last so long you end up getting good prices broken down by year over 5 years. Dyson big and quiet also has solid sensors. I cross reference with other sensors but it is nice have an in app weekly and current log. Can't clean what you don't know is dirty.
It's something we want to work on as it's one of the things that many of the manufacturers say about their filters, that they keep efficiency even when used vs other models. I worry that the Austin carbon element would get used up as, in my experience, I just can't imagine it holding for 5 years even with the amount you get - but I need to test this to be sure. I am actually testing out the Dyson BP06 at the moment, and it seems to only have a CO2 sensor. Which Dyson big and quiet model do you have? Has it got a particle sensor?
Dyson is wack
I need an air purifier for 3d Printing purposes. Can you recommend me someone? Price is no question
What size is your space. Would need carbon for gases so any device with a large carbon filter so iqair healthpro. If only gas you could look at iqair gc gas.
@HouseFresh Thanks for the answer. Ca 24 m²... And Levoit air purifiers? Arent they as good for this purpose?
Somethig like the Core 400S with the smoke away filter should be a good fair priced solution to what you need. You would run it on speed 2 and it would be quiet background or top speed when you want to clean quicker. The auto-mode is also quite good as you can set it to be extra sensitive, so it will go 100% removed when it detects particles from the 3d printer. Most other automodes never go to full speed which would be annoying in your use case.
@HouseFresh Thanks. Im a bit concerned about the quality. For VOC you need a lot of carbone and there is nothing where i can check the amount or thickness of the carbone.
@Bloedelithiqair shares they use 5.5lbs of carbon in their health pro plus .
You should test the new 5510, the update to the 5500-2
Will be out soon, finished filming this week. Keep an eye out.
@@HouseFresh 🙏
Wow this exact model sells Amazon in Australia under £250
Interesting great to see it being available outside US.
I like the 5500-2 more, as it pulls air from the front and the side, but not the back, so it's easy to put it on a wall. Also it fits perfectly next to my all black home cinema audio front setup. It's a shame they did the all in one filter. The big reason for the 5500-2 is to remove the carbon filter separately when it gets smelly. Also the light indicator to the front is in my opinion better than on top. Did you test the auto mode? Does it also self detect night and shut off lights and go to lowest fan setting? Overall, I'm now fully happy with my 3 purifiers. Levoit core 400s in the bedroom, 200s in the bath where also my dogs can do their poop, and the winix 5500-2 in the living room. With that the entire apartment (not small) is constantly at under 2 for pm2.5. My girlfriend can breathe much better then before, because of asthma, and they all operate silent in mode 1 constantly :) thanks for your videos pal, it's far more interesting to watch you compare the models than for example "air purifiers first", whose vids are all the same and not really comparing
Agree the unbonded filter on the Winix 5500-2 are a great benefit. But think that most consumer just want much smaller which is why we see so many cylinder design. It’s a particle sensor so quicker than gas sensor and also has the night detection. Your home air sounds great 😌 thanks for you kind words we hope to keep Improving videos in future but your words mean a ton!
How wildly expensive Jesus. I'll stick with my winnix
True if the sound isn’t an issue you get more bang for your buck from Winix.
They did send the 230v from the US? That's often a coincidence, nice it worked for you!
Was a US voltage but have a converter to power to run. I’m the early days I broke an air purifier using a basic travel adapter so always recommend the us to uk converter. 🙃
Love my Winix A231
Yeah a great unit! 🤜
I looked for it at AP003. I can’t find it nowhere man not even on the link that you post on your thing.
I have one of these. It was great while it lasted. The fans are making a noise like grinding. The power supplied only runs at half power now and the display stopped working as well.
Sorry to hear that, you should reach out to Adam Wong at Air Fanta as he may have had some early models with issues and hopefully can make it right with you.
What is that crackling noise? Is there a paper somewhere that might interfere with the fan?
Good ear, I am don't think that there was paper but will check. We have been running it everyday and I don't recall this sound now so might be something that fixed itself. Will be sure to re-record it running so I can share.
AirGradiant is getting a $24 per year subscription which while cheap will add up… and probably will get more expensive. That to me would steer me to the Aranet or maybe Apollo air 1 if I could be bothered to set up a home assistant…
Thanks for letting know I didn't know they were rolling out a subscription. Purpleair doesn't have anything to my knowledge but their api requirment. I just got a Home Assistant Green and saw you can connect with Purpleair but does look quite complex - www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/tbhdvb/tutorial_complete_detailed_purpleair_integration/ I assume Purpleair already monetizes the sensor data so likely won't roll out a subscription.
@@HouseFresh I’ve been looking at the Apollo Air-1 for the home assistant but I’m just getting into this but that route would not have a subscription but I’d have to pay for the electricity to power the home assistant 😂
Haha yeah should be a lot less 😂
Hi there, I am very allergic to dog hair and I have a labrador that constantly sheds. I'm torn between XiaoMi Pro 4 and Levoit 400s. Is that any air purifer that you would recommend? Thank you
For a shedding dog I would look at a rectangular design as you can a removable pre-filter. So devices like the Winix 5500-2, Coway Might 200M, Coway 250...etc As dog hair will build up on the filter and something removal is a bit easier. The XiaoMi Pro 4 and Levoit 400s will both do a good job with the allergens from your dog.
Just found your channel and subscribed. I have a very large living room that has high vaulted ceilings probably about 20 feet high and then it’s open where the stairs go up into the loft area. I’m looking for a unit to sit in the living room . I want the very best. What would you recommend.
If you just want a just one unit I would look into the top CADR models from the main brands. All of these seem to have sweden ecom sites: Levoit EverestAir (tested and liked it), have not tested the IQAir Atem X as its quite pricey but could also fit what you need with a very high CADR. Depending on the room size you might need multiple devices - you find out what CADR you need for specific air changes for your space. I would max out the ceiling to 9ft as the vaulted ceiling will also provide ventialtion benefits.
This is a good review. I bought a Winix Zero S recently but this has now dropped in price on Amazon UK to £135.99 as has the Winix 5300-2 which is also now at £135.99. I’m sure some of your viewers may be tempted but may be unsure of the key differences between the two models. Is there anyway you could summarize the pertinent differences between the two models to help sift thru’ the superfluous information that pads out the Amazon and Winix marketing material?
Main difference between the two is that the Zero S comes with an impregnated fabric carbon filter vs the pelleted you get with the 5500-2. I prefer the pelleted carbon.
Sorry the 5300 also comes with the fabric also so main difference is design and the zero s has a particle sensor vs the gas sensor you get with the 5300-3.
In general particle sensors kick in quicker vs gas sensor. Downside is that you do need to keep the particle sensor area clean every 2-3 months which you don’t with the gas sensor.
Thanks. I guess it depends if odour control is more important rather than HEPA filtering the air to the purchaser. My aim was to help pets with their breathing so I bought the Zero S. I don't think I've noticed much of a difference and I don't know whether other Winix air purifiers would be any better. I'm also a little unsure whether there are similarly priced APs that also have positive and negative ion generation like the winix series. Most I've seen seem to only generate negative ions. I think I'd like a second AP for upstairs but not if it's only as effective as the Zero S.
Not tested but had people on here ask about Daiken. They also seem to use a posistive and negation ion generation as you get with Plasmwave. If do get be sure to let me know how you get on as I do want to test at some point.
This was helpful. Looking to buy a mini air purifier.
Glad it was helpful!
Would you compare it to the 5510 or the c909?
The C909 can use the same sized filters so likely more similar to that. The 5510 is the new version fo the 5500-2 but uses different filters.
They are still marketed as HEPA on amazon
They state that it's HEPA when running on sleep mode.
Wouldn't the best overall be the Winix 5500-2? And how does it compare to the A230? Which is better and why?
As it includes an ionizer I felt that the Levoit Vital 200S was a better option but I still am a big fan of the 5500-2. The A230 is good but as with all smaller air purifiers, I reccomend most people go for a mid sized unit as they cost similar to run and you get more air cleaning power. We recently updated our web version of this list that might be useful: housefresh.com/best-air-purifiers-we-tested/
I really would buy an air purifier if it was not ridiculously hard to get your hands on filters in the future. Even if you get a filter on a new modell the chances you will get replacement after 6-12 month is low which just makes it waste of money.
That's why I recommend sticking with brands that have existed for a long time. I still have an Alen A350 that was first sold in 2010, and you can still buy filters today. Same with the IQAir healthpro plus released in 1998 - the filters sold now still work with it. But agree it's a bit risky with new brands as they often sell tons and close down a few years later.
@HouseFresh I appreciate you answering I am pretty new in the field. I live in Swe(eu). Im looking for something relative new a year maybe 2 year old modell. I dont really care about cost more quality, effectivness and most important futureproof (filter availability now and future). Do you have any modells recommend? I have checked out some models but when I try get filters by searching google or amazons I have not found a modell yet with several retailers.
It’s costly but look into the iqair atem x or iqair healthpro as they will have filters forever.
You should compare the 5500-2s replacement the 5510
Working on this week !
Can you compare the new Winix 5510 vs the 5500-2? They say it's the upgraded new version
Been writing up this review this week so hope to get the review of the 5510 out in the next few weeks.
I wish there was an european distributor, so expensive to get these to the UK
Yeah same I would love to get more for friends and family but just too high cost plus hvac filters are hard to get also.
thanks
You're welcome!

Your welcome.
I've had mine since 2017. 2025 still going strong.
Great to hear 💪
Hi Danny and HouseFresh team! Thanks for your very thorough reviews of air purifiers! I live in LA and have become obsessed with air quality after the recent devastating fires in our city. I purchased two Levoit units, the Vital 200s for my larger main room, and vital 100s for my bedroom. I am a tad concerned about the “True HEPA H13” controversy surrounding Levoit, but am reassured that these units have good CADR and features that match my preferences, and are well-reviewed. They seem to be performing well and are quiet, which is great. Wondering if you have advice/recommendations on non-OEM replacement filters? Do you think they’re ok to use in the first place, and if so, do you have recommendations? I’m wondering if it’s best to get a non-OEM filter for each that is actually True HEPA H13, or if the difference in filter will affect the performance/longevity of the units. Thanks so much! Tim in LA
We have tested Pureburg filters for quite a few different models and found that performance was good although a little slower with particles as they seem to contain more carbon or maybe higher grade filter. I doubt there will be any danger to the device to use with generic filters and as our tests have shown lower grade filters can actually be quicker at removing particles than higher grade. I do want to put a video together that compares lots of different generic filters but it's taking a while!
Helpful 🎉
Glad you think so!
So, is is better that the 300s? I'm also considering coway airmega 100 at the same price in my country.
I think so as its cleans a bit quicker and you benefit from the removal pre-filter. But does take up more floor space. I am in the process fo testing the airmega 100 but will be a while before the review is live.
I removed the ionizer on mine. But after that I was so disgusted when I learned about how ineffective they are, I threw them away. What a colossal waste of money!
Sorry to hear that! I do think they should be clearer in their marketing.
I wanted to get this for my studio apt, but went with the Vital 200s considering a 380²ft studio is not just a room but a kitchen too so I thought the 200s would be more effective. The 200s was on special at 160 so I thought it made more sense. A shame tho, I like the smaller size of the 100s.
I think you made the right call as long term it will cost the same to run and you can use your 200 in lower fan speed and get more air cleaning power than what you get for the 100.But agree smaller would be better!
Shame Taotronics got kicked off Amazon. They made good devices. They had excellent earbuds too.
It does seem weird as I have seen tons of terrible product/companies doing really well with Amazon.
They should have never discontinued this. The design is great and it seems like itd be a good competitor to the Vital 200. It just needed a refeesh with app support. Not a complete replacement. Bad business.
Agree its a shame as it's a really well built machine!. But winix are good for keeping filters available for older devices at least.
Am going to sharing this idea in a video, hopefully Winix sees it and brings us the Winix Zero Pro 2!
I wonder why the third party Levoit brands don't separate the filters. I can see why Levoit would do it for their first party filters. They can squeeze more money out of customers but youd think someone would have figured out a way to separate the carbon and filter layers.
In testing, I found that unbonded filters perform worse, so this might be one reason that generic filters are avoided. I did see some people making their own carbon filters by cutting fabric to the correct size but seems with Levoit you are forced to go down the bonded route even with non first party filters.
