FDR could teach the Donald a few lessons on how to effectively deal with political adversaries!

This is an addendum to Mike Goldman's excellent article. This is the opening originally used for "The Haunted Lighthouse". To my knowledge, it was only used for this one episode. Different train footage, different shot of the Daily Planet Building, no Superman in flight.

From the Adventures of Superman
I am the light of the world Amen
I had a great flight!
Inspiring!
I would think George Reeves would need to wear googles to protect his eyes, yeah, yeah, I know, he's Superman....but still folks, those winds in the eyes can do a lot of damage without protection........agreed?
To be fair, I wouldn't blame Rosevelt for spending millions of taxpayer dollars to rescue that dog. He was such a good boy. But this is the sign of a good person. One who starts his campaign speech by defending his dog.
*George Reeves:* "No one can do what Superman does" *Christopher Reeve:* "Its possible for a person to fly"
Fucking Guy got around.
Similar to Superman IV
I think these scenes of Superman flying look so much more realistic than what you see with computer-generated imagery today. Especially the ones of him flying amongst the clouds with the sun shining on him. It just looks so realistic! And done before computers.
Fala for Prez!
The colour episodes were lazy wiyh the flying, and other things. You could tell the cast, specially George was getting bored.
It takes an incredible amount of talent and athleticism to perform those takeoffs and landings.
The joke, for all the international viewers, is rooted around the stereotype that Scottish people are incredibly cheap.
On 0:57 *Jack Larson said* that this takeoff is *the last time George Reeves used wires* because when George flew out of the picture *he fell 10ft on the ground* and because of that he said "that's enough of that!" and on *later episodes some takeoff scenes had been recycled* and on season 2 i believe they *use springboards* to takeoff and fly and here are some examples: 1:11 and 1:20 look at Superman's foot when he jumps.
Must have been a big hit on television 📺
If I was that little girl flying with Superman I would black out from fear.
Alltheactorswhoplayedsupesgavethierownspecialtakeonthelegendandcharacterofsuperman.thankyougentlemenoneandall!!!!!
The "S" on his shirt is backwards when he flys left to right on th screen
The late great "George Reeves # 1 Superman of all time !
1:22 Launch board.

Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane.....NO! It's Superman. And who, disguised as clark kent, mild-mannered reporter for a daily metropolitan newspaper, fights a neverending battle for truth, justice, and the American way.
The three takeoffs starting at 0:27 are from the first season which used wires on a crane. You can clearly identify stunt doubles, but as most of us George Reeves fans know, George was on wires when they broke causing him to have a nasty fall. After that, the springboard was used
A lot was made of the flying effects in the superman movies with Christopher Reeves but the flying effects here are surprisingly just as good if not better
Did anyone else notice at 2:43 that Supermans costume needed some stitching?!
Fun fact: Orson Wells actually wrote that joke for FDR who obviously delivered it perfectly.
There is a repair in the armpit of Superman's shirt at 2:44.
He flies head first, but he always lands feet first. Can't recall seeing the turn around.
George Reeves and Christopher Reeve has one thing in common that always came through in their performances: A sincere innate decency.
2:56 Next time try using the phone.
How Supe avoided literally knocking the crooks heads off with a punch is amazing
What can I say. So happy I was on earth at this time . If George only knew what a mark he made.
The campaign ended right then and there;. Afterward the stale Dewey was running against Fala, with Fall , of course, beating him.
1:40 That uppercut has to have been a death sentence. This guy has knocked asteroids out of the sky. The bone of the criminals chin would have come right through his skin. His head will forever be looking up
Still watch it
I think "Adventures of Superman" was the first major TV series to be filmed in color, at a time when less than 10% of homes had color TV yet. Did they expect the show to run successfully in reruns years into the future?
George Reeves my favorite Superman
George Reeves was really athletic on the show.
Love how, even though he has super powers, he has to work at it to right the plane at 3:09. Laws of physics still apply to the Man of Steel.
Superman almost always came thru an open window. Very rarely was the window closed.❤
Every once in a while, when flying from left to right, you can see the "S" on his chest is backwards.
How I wish John Williams would conduct a full orchestra to the score of this wonderful memory of my childhood! Could you imagine, the harps, violin, tympami and cello at the start, followed by the heralding trumpets?!?
Brutal stitching job on the outfit at 2:43.
Still beautiful to watch it
great actor an athlete!!!He made it look a lot easier than it was
Can crush coal to form a diamond but strains when holding a plane back .
He was trying not to risk tearing the plane apart. It's the same thing as when Superman struggles to stop a speeding train. He doesn't want to wreck it or injure anyone aboard.
The GOAT
I love how George just "sticks" the landings almost all the time without another step. I realize of course if he stumbled or was off balance they'd do another take. But most of the time he nails it! That very first landing on the deck of the "ship" was a perfect example.
