I've been after one for a while now and it recently went on sale on Amazon and I thought I'd treat myself to a new tool. Welcome back to my channel, if this is your first visit Hello, greetings and I hope you find something you like. For this project I've made a mallet out of offcuts and scrap pieces of wood that I have had in my workshop for quite some time, after making a Mallet on my Ooznest WorkBee I had a few questions on how much time it saved me in comparison to making one in a more traditional way. Hi again everybody! I hope you're all safe and well. In this video I make a Mallet that will be gifted to Brett McAfee at Makers Central later this year. I used a few new techniques on this build like using a solution to ebonize the oak and turn it black. As a little side note I put alignment holes in the mallet but decided to take a different approach and didn't end up using them. I have also ...
Manson MB Guitar Pick Tray: The Best Place to Store Your Gear

Excellent video. Thanks.
@@deonholt Thank you 🙏, I hope it helped
Nice charcuterie board but it looks a little small. I guess it's for single servings.
🤭, it is on the small side isn’t it… good for midnight smacks.
@@DeanMakes 🤭
Make it even stronger without increasing the weight too much, slide lengths of dowel inside the pipe.
That’s a brilliant idea, if I made this again I’d definitely think about doing it that way
im making a guitar right now and its my fiirst one im making from scratch, and the neck is the hardest part. its the most involved, it receives the most components, requires the most shaping, and percision, and theres about a million different ways to make one.
Definitely, I've kind of moved on to making mine with a CNC machine now but I still like to shape the neck by hand, it becomes therapeutic after a while.
very nice what settings did you use for the engrave?
Thank you, I set the speed to 350mm per second and the power to 25% on this one
We love the mallet design, especially the phone holder part, perfect for watching tutorials in the shop! Thank you for our very own Mallet and for sharing this with the Vectric community 😊😊 You did an amazing job!
Thank you so much for allowing me to partner with you guys and create another project, I really enjoyed this one 😀. Thanks for the kind words and support too 🙏
Great build Dean. The mallet looks awesome.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Very pretty Dean! I’ll have a go at one myself I think.
Thanks for watching, if you need any help drop me a message 😁
Great video mate. Keep up the great content
Thanks Richard, I plan to reboot this channel this year, I just need to get back into the flow
Love that hammer, and I’ll love it even more when there is one for a leftie. 🤟🏻😜
Next Makers Central I'll have a lefty, just for you 😉
@@DeanMakes you can tell I’m still not a fully fledged woodworker when I still keep calling them hammers. 😂😂😂
@@oakfieldscreativeworkshop 😂
That's brilliant!
Thank you Andy, hopefully Vectric will be sharing the file shortly 🤞
What make of glue do you use on the copper pipe please 👍
Hi, thanks for watching and leaving a comment, I used the gorilla glue multi purpose one that expands 😊
@@DeanMakes Thanks 👍
That looks very cool Dean and I like the way you positioned the mirror using cardboard 🛠👍😊
Thanks for commenting sparky, I'm too lazy to make a jig and received a deliver while I was filming this 🤣. Always great to have cardboard to hand.
Cardboard is a very useful resource! 👍😊
Great minds great things it's awesome
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, it means a lot to me ☺️
Am a carpenter here in Nairibi Kenya and I like learning carpentry alot and new things and also having more unique tools because with more tools coz it means unique skills I believe timber is beauty
Right on man! Love your tattoos! 😇🌎❤️💪
Thanks for the comment and subscription and tattoo compliment 🤘
i'm a just about to tackle this as my machine has quite a large difference in height across the spoilboad. It looks like it also quite alot (c. 4mm). I'm worried that my first cuts will not be at the highest point and i'll end up going round then suddenly taking a massive cut. Any thoughts on an easy way to find the highest point to do the z probe there?
Hi, sorry for the late reply. Personally I'd be tempted to try and spot the higher bits by eye and mark them with a pencil. I'd then manually control the CNC with the spindle on to try and pre flatten those high spots, once your happy that they're even across the waste board I'd run a surface pass to get everything all one level. Hope this helps.
My stool is a bit wonky and not sturdy afte cutting it, i havent glued it yet. even though every pice is the exakt same length , Im a bit scared that it will not become straigth. any sugsteion for preventing that to happen?
Hi, sorry for the slow reply. Once I'd finished this stool I went back and made the height of the long bits shorter, if that makes sense. It seems a lot more stable being lower down. Thanks for watching and commenting too, it means a lot to get some feedback ☺️
Great video mate. Keep them coming rj_rawcreations
Thanks buddy, I can't wait to see what you do with your WorkBee 🤘
Nice video Dean! There are some little gems of info in there.
Thank you, I've got a couple of ideas I want to tryout when the weather gets back to normal, I'll be sure to show some more of the WorkBee control in the videos too.
I need you to come do my video editing lol nicely done
Thanks mate, if you you ever want me to have a go at edits just send me some footage, I'd be happy to have a look
@@DeanMakes awesome thanks buddy 👍🏻 nice voice over as well
Cool little vid mate, I need to explore more of the features on Vectric. I did not know about the fillet tool for corners. 👍🏻
Thank you, I'm glad I could show you something new 😅, I'm thinking about doing a little "beginners guide to Vectric" series over the summer, maybe provide a few easy follow along projects in a Dropbox link?
@@DeanMakes sounds good, I have a lot to learn 😁 although there is some cross over between autocad and lightburn to vectric’s there is still lots to learn.
Cool project Dean - I really must make one too. Some extra explanation of what you're doing in the software would be interesting, not necessarily blow by blow, just a bit more, especially for Vectric newbies like me.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, it means a lot to me. I'm thinking about working on a Vectric basics series this summer. Maybe including a drop box for the files I use?
That rocks!
🤣, and if you go too far, it rolls.
@@DeanMakes lol
Best comment
Aside from making a slit and jamming the hatched in the wood did you use anything else to make it more permanent in the wooden box?
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I used a 2 part Epoxy resin to secure the axe into the slot, I didn't show this in the video as I forgot to record that part.
do you plans for this ?
Hi, Thank you for watching, unfortunately I do not. I kind of built it as I went. If you are interested in making your own version the backboard for the target is 2.5ft wide and 4ft long, I used 1 inch thick pine for the board that the axe hits that were roughly 6 inches wide. Not too long after this video I remade the tripod that held the target as my garden is very uneven and it kept falling over, This summer I plan to remake this project but will make plans available and write an instructable for anybody wanting to build their own. sorry for the wall of text in this comment, thank you for watching and commenting, Dean
This turned out nice!
Thank you for your kind words and thanks for watching. I've had a few more ideas that I'd like to try if I get asked to make another one ☺️
Yet another very cool build using your CNC!!!
Thank you for watching and commenting, I'm going to pre apologize because I may have just brought another machine 😂
It is official, we will continue to watch your fun videos but can no longer talk to you for buying more awesome machines! LOL!! 😜😂😂
🤣
Can I get a copy of your build plans?
Hey, thank you for watching, unfortunately I kind of fabricated this is space. If you're still interested I can get you a few basic measurements 🙂.
Came out nice mate
Thanks, I think the oil finish really makes the wood grain pop. I was a bit unsure about using eucalyptus as it felt really soft.
Nice Job Bud!
Thank you for your kind words and thanks for watching and commenting, it means a lot to me.🤘
Great job. I make similar vaults. I am curious about your cut depths and your double-sided work technique.
Hey, thank you for watching. My work piece for this one was a bit of 45mm thick eucalyptus that I ripped down the middle on my band saw, I then took each side to 20mm. I cut the pockets to a depth of 15mm on each side. To give the continued grain effect I mirrored my tool paths in Vectric and carved each bit at a different time. When I engraved the monogram I set that up as a separate job but made sure that my bit was homed on the bottom left corner of the work. Hopefully I'll be doing a more in depth video about 2 sided machining soon as I potentialy have an interesting project coming up. Yet again thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 🤘
Dice? I would have to fill it with crisps and dip 👍 😁
I like your idea better 😜, I started this project without knowing a thing about dungeons and dragons, I'm still non the wiser 😂. Thanks for watching 🤘
Nicely done!
Thank you, I'd like to try it again one day but maybe with a lip to stop the lid from sliding and help with alignment.
@@DeanMakes ya, magnets aren't great at staying together when force is applied tangentially. Just add a couple of small dowels and you would be all set👍
Yeah, I wish I'd have done that now. The client gave me the wood and it wasn't quite the right dimensions for what I'd have liked to do, he's happy with it though so I guess I should be too 😂
Tidy job.
Thank you, I have to admit when I was asked to make this I didn't have a clue about dungeons and dragons, still haven't 😂. Thanks for watching
thanks!
No problem, I hope it helped you 😃. Thanks for watching.
WOW! The sign looks fantastic! You are doing such incredible work with your CNC!
Thank you for watching and your kind words, I fell that my confidence with the machine is getting stronger by the week 😁
I was thinking it resembled spiders from Dragon Slayer anime. Cool use of a combination of 3D printer, CNC and woodworking (or just wood). BTW... your UV box is not too strong, it has two uses. The one you used , plus if you mount it on the ceiling of your room, turn it on while wearing sunglasses, you will be totally safe from COVID, plus you get a suntan. 😂
Thank you, I've heard a few people mention Dragon Slayer, I'll definitely check it out now. I like the sun tanning light idea 🤣 especially as we can't travel at the moment.
where you get the white skull bead from
Hey, thanks for the watching and commenting. The skull was a 3D print that I got off of thingiverse, I think I searched for skull bead.
how awesome is that👍👍
Thank you for watching and commenting, I'm quite happy with this one ☺️
Love the colors on this and the final result. Great job!
Thank you for your kind words, I'm super happy with how the welds came out can't considering it was my first time 😬
Looking forward to your 12 videos this year! I know you can do it 👍👍
Thank you, I think if I sent myself a realistic goal it's going to help me ease back into content creation. When I first started the channel I wanted to try one a week but started to struggle with workloads and family life. Thank you for watching 🙌
@@DeanMakes one a week is an insane schedule that sometimes full time youtubers can't keep up with! Relax and enjoy making the videos, that's what it's all about!
Nice work, turned out great 👍😁
Thank you, I'm definitely going to be practicing with more welding projects in the future.
Great work! Lovely job, can't wait to see more
Thank you, I plan on making a workbench this year, hopefully welded 🤞
Great design, I also liked your cnc footage.
Thank you, hopefully I'll be stepping up the CNC footage soon as I've just had the parts for my time lapse camera slider 😬
@@DeanMakes your footage was shot at a good angle, and I don't know anything about cnc, so I find it interesting to watch.
Cracking job Dean! it might even look a bit better if you darkened the pallet wood a touch 👍👍
Thank you, Originally I was planning to rust the steel and blacken the pallet wood with fire. When I was in the shop last night I did have thoughts about using steel wool and vinegar on the wood.
Nice job on the welding, love the metal and wood combo
Thank you, there's still a few voids in the welds but I'm happy with it for a first attempt 😊, I'm going to keep practicing though until I get it right.
Good job man, looks cool as! 👍
Thank you, I'm toying with the Idea of putting a LED strip on the back but don't know if it would be over kill 🤣
@@DeanMakes Im sure it'll look awesome but theres only one way to find out lol
That Came Out Great! Nice Job Bud👍
Thanks, I'm hoping to mount it to the wall this weekend I've brought some better wall fixings as it's a weighty beast 🤣
Interesting paint roller. Is that a taster pot? The sign looks great.
Thank you, The paint pot is a Dulux tester from B and Q, I completely skipped over that in the voice over. They're great for little projects like this as they're only about £2 each.
