Listen to this video and please use this under wood subfloor as well. Footsteps are so loud when you don’t use additional underlayment
Please mention the name of the product.
dmx 1 step from home depot
Thanks for the input
Can you that type of stone tile on the walls of a shower as well as the floor
Yes
Way to lock the water into the wall. Stop promoting Dry-lock type stuff.
I hooked up a new valve and a new ice maker. No water I being run to the icemaker yet. It's been about 30mins. I know the valve is getting water.
DMX 1-Step 2.0 is the product name.
I see the measurement of the actual insert on Amazon. How true are they and how much bigger is the outer part from the inserted part. I have a current opening of 19.25”, and I am wanting to install this fireplace in that area.
Hi Mustafa, I decided to add more to my comments with reference to the Ontario Building Code. I didn’t address everything. I wanted to point out to your viewers that plumbing is a little more complicated than you think. After reading some of the comments I was motivated to share my take on things. All of the material we use for plumbing in Ontario is certified. Sub Section 7.2.5. in the Ontario Building Code pretty well covers it. In Ontario ABS is used in above and below ground DWV in residential. I found if the big box stores sell it is certified. You can check the certification on the pipe with the information in the code. I didn’t talk about the venting. There’s a bunch of different ways to do it. Every job is different with its challenges. That’s why it is so important to know the rules. One thing is not to oversize especially in residential. In a restaurant more clean outs is good. You have grease interceptors, staff putting anything down the sinks and generally heavy usage and abuse of the plumbing. Industrial is the same. So have a read. Let me know what you think. It’s not complete but I think I illustrates why we plumbers have special training, exams and years of practical experience. 7.4.7.1. (6) Every sanitary building drain shall be provided with a clean out fitting as close as practical where the drain leaves the building. In your case you are using the back water valve (BWV)as a clean out also. While it will work I don’t recommend it. A heavy duty drain cleaning cable can damage the internal workings of the flapper. It’s all plastic. It would probably have to be replaced. I would install a clean out downstream of the BWV using a y&45 degree fitting. This makes it much easier to run a cable down the sanitary sewer. 7.4.6.4.(1) A BWV valve that prevents free circulation on a “building” drain or “building sewer” shall not be installed. You can use one that allows free circulation. Go to 7.4.6.4.(2) and it will give you the certification details. Also I the Ontario Building Code you need to go to Division A, Section 1.4 to see all of the definitions which include plumbing. The definitions will explain what is a” building drain” and “building sewer”. The BWV you installed can be used on branches from a building drain providing it is certified. You need to look at the definitions to see what a branch is. Plumbing definitions are just important as knowing all the other rules on how to install plumbing. The code is subtle in the way it is laid out. All definitions are printed in italics. There is a bunch of rules in 7.4.6.4. for BWV. For residential plumbing I would not oversize any of the piping. Part 7 rules for sizing are more than adequate. It’s all about the quality of the installer. Don’t spend the extra money on oversizing. It will not work any better. So the y connection to the 4” “ building drain” can be 3”. The reason it’s 3” is the largest fixture waste pipe is a w.c. (water closet) see 7.4.9.2. Now we can check the size of the drain. Fixture units are assigned to all of the fixtures to determine the size of the waste pipe that is required for that particular fixture and to size the branches and other drains. A 3” drain installed at 1/50 or 1/4” per foot can accommodate 27 fixture units. See Table 7.4.10.8. Now add up the fixtures units. See Table 7.4.9.3. 1-wc = 4 fixture units(fu) 3” pipe 1 shower drain from 1 head= 1-1/2( fu). 1-1/2” pipe 1- lavatory drain using a 1-1/2” trap = 1-1/2( fu) 1-1/2”pipe 1- domestic sink 1-1/2 (fu) = 1-1/2” pipe Total fu=. 3+1.5+1.5+1.5=7.5 fu Maximum fu on a 3” horizontal sanitary drainage pipe is 27. There’s plenty left over. A 4” pipe at 1/50 or 1/4” of slope per foot can handle 240 fixture units. The other thing I want to talk about is the double fitting picking up the kitchen sink and lavatory. Table 7.2.4.5.talks about pipe arrangements and dwv fittings. You can use a double tee or a double waste fitting if the vertical run is 3” or larger and the branches are no larger than 2”. The table does a good job of showing these rules. There is a bunch of rules for installing a vent on the outside of a building. Look at sentence 7.5.6.5.(3). In short the vent is required to be 3” size. If the building is 4 “storeys” or less in height the vent terminal shall extend above the roof. When supporting the underground piping using pieces of concrete is not the best. Appendix A in part 7 has some great drawings to help you decide what works the best and generally acceptable by the industry. The general rule is use select bedding material. A non cohesive ballast material. 50% will pass through a 1/4” sieve and 100% thru a 1/2 sieve. Put 4”to 6” underneath and surround the pipe with 4”. In the real world I didn’t see this used much inside. Outside underground with vehicle traffic it was a must. Also the type of pipe can affect the pipe support. Manufacturers of pipe will tell you want they recommend for there products. I think inside on a bed of pea gravel would work just fine. In your case there is very little weight from the back fill on top of it. I would backfill with the smaller material you took out and not bother with larger pieces on broken concrete. Since I’m retired my code book is outdated. The code references should be good though.
Wow you are an angel. I really appreciate the time that you put into educating us and making this comment. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Thanks a million for your attention and your time. May God bless you beyond imagination.🙏🏻❤️
@ You’re welcome!
what if my shower is sloped sideways? I can feel my left foot is lower than my right foot when showering for the entire length of the shower and it is uncomfortable. Can this work to make it level?
For sure
@@renovationschool8818 Ugh...contractor refuses, says he will not put his license behind that and wants $2,200 to re-do the shower pan etc. I guess I need to give this work to someone else. thanks
After watching this video it just hit me that most new Schulter drain systems are made of metal not plastic. Now you could unfortunately epoxy that plastic DIY spacer to metal. And I haven’t researched just yet but I believe they have now designed a repair drain which goes directly into existing pipe (which allows you to still do this), but keep this in mind if your drain pipe is metal!
Do you have a video that shows retiling shower walls by just chipping away the old tiles? I would prefer not to rip out the entire walls back to the studs. Thanks!
No I don't have a video of that as of this minute
Is the sound quieter in ABS or PVC for the above ground drainage?
I think ABS It's more dense
Thank you so much !
Peel it all off
Is the pink stuff under the walls just vapour barrier?
Yes
For a small house 900sf2 with one bath and laundry in the garage, can I tie all the vents in the attic to a single vent 3" and direct it out to the highest point of the side of the house so there will be no penetration through the roof since I am planning on installing metal roof?
Yes As long as there is not a window close to it Or you can raise it higher than the roof once it's outside the house.
@@renovationschool8818 thanks for replying. Yes, I know it has to be certain high above the roof (need to check with the city). Maybe vent for the furnace to the other side then to balance the look.
If my toilet 4”pipe run 20 feet sloping just 1inch will be what happen..?
You won't have proper drainage
If my toilet 4”pipe run 20 feet sloping just 1inch will be what happen ?
Will not drain properly You need between 3/16 to 1/4 of an inch drop per foot
Just subscribed, great video! Really enjoyed and it came in very helpful - only criticism was the music volume :)
Not sure if you do this often but you should float your panels and not have them directly fastened to the cabinet and ceiling. If the house shifts your cabinets are going to be in trouble.
What if it dosnet? 😁 I only work in houses that are standing and will be for a long time.

Hi Mostafa thank you so much that is explained in all the details needed. I have a question a friend of mine wants to install a kitchen in the basement he has experience doing that in a foreign country what would he need here to do such thing? does he need supervision from a certified plumber or can he just watch your video to see how things are done here before working on it? I'm worried he might miss some codes or constraints that we have here in Alberta Thanks once again!
Salam brother Thanks for watching Wallah I have no idea about his work experience and skills. Watch this video and videos like this if he feels comfortable doing it then go right ahead.

A quick question: I went to HD and there are a lot of different concrete mixes. Is this sand topping mix strong enough? I asked the person there and they said it was fine but just wanted to ask here too - the last thing I want are some structural issues happening down the road because I used the wrong mix.
It's totally fine for this. But if you are gonna build 2 stories on it no
@renovationschool8818 thanks for the quick answer. My concrete is 3" thick and on this it says up to 2" thickness that's what made me suspicious. Edit: I'm a total beginner, so please educate me about this
@stix1904 you will be totally fine .
Trying to purchase the same products but the clear coat you're using doesn't appear to be Labpox 40 uv. What clearcoat/ topcoat are you using from Labpox? And when do you add the flint silica ?
They may have other products now Use whatever clear coat that has UV protection in it. If you use the flakes you don't have to add the sand at all . If you only use the epoxy without anything else then use the silka sand to make it slip proof otherwise dont use it if u are planning on using the chips and clear coat.
@@renovationschool8818 Fantastic! thanks my man!
So will you smell sewer gas near that inlet on the outside of the house? If so and that’s undesirable perhaps you can run it up the outside of the house to above the roof line. I’m planning a similar project and was considering going out the side because this home doesn’t have modern venting but I don’t want to smell gas. Just curious if when no water is flowing if gas small will come out. Great job
I honestly don't smell any gas there but it's always better to run it all the way to the roof if possible.
I put the same stone on my shower floor. Main problem is, because the stone shapes are not uniform, the grout lines are not uniform. This leads to pinch-points where the grout lines are too small for sanded grout. I used sanded grout, and after a number of years it started chipping up at those pinch-points. I wish I had used unsanded instead. Another problem is, you're not supposed to use bleach on natural stone. Because of that, and because there's so much grout with these small stones, the shower floor is difficult to keep clean. That's the lesser of the two issues; the chipping grout is the bigger one. So, after trying to re-grout and that failed, too, ironically I'm doing the opposite of this video. I'm taking square porcelain tiles and tiling over this stone!
I sealed these tiles right after so I will never have leakage and seepage issue No mold or anything I can use anything including bleach and I have done it many times Nothing has happened so far. I used the strengthening product for my grout as you saw in the video so far it's been 3 years and it's exactly the same
@@renovationschool8818 Yeah, mine lasted for a few years too, but eventually the grout chipped up.
@@Skepilot it was not applied properly
@@renovationschool8818 Well, the same installer applied the same grout everywhere else in the bathroom: shower walls, bathroom floor, etc. The only place it chipped up is where the stones are. The rule of thumb is, grout lines that are smaller than 1/8 inch should use unsanded grout. With the irregular sizes of the stones, the pinch-points are less than 1/8th inch.
Moustafa, how can I get in contact with you?
I'm in Windsor Ontario 5198909031
Mashallah. Pro work. Great job.
Doesn't Underlayment hold/trap moisture and condensesion on a concrete floor, and/or where's the moisture and condensesion end up? Does it evaporate or what? I want to lay LPV on my concrete floor, but I don't have a basement. It's just a concrete slab single level house. Can I get away without using the Underlayment? Please, someone let me know if you do this kind of work?
In your case I highly recommend you to use this. Usually basements floors are a sloped toward a floor drain. In most cases the water heater is located in the basement. And also all the plumbing for the entire house usually comes from or goes to the basement. If anything happens to the water heater or any of the pipes burst or even a bad storm happens and water gets into the basement from the windows, the water usually goes through the floor drain. In your case I still recommend using this underlayment. If the concrete sweats or you have any moisture build up there's air movement on the bottom of your underlayment. That by itself prevents any mold or other issues in the future. I hope I answered your question.
Don’t use that .
@josenoriega5470 😁🙏🏻
Great tutorial! Ty
There’s not enough space on the back to fit complete with the black plastic “smart connection “ thing 😢 can I remove that plastic in order to fit it in ??
Nooooo Do not Return and buy another unit or ask someone to cut the counter top on the front a bit more
Great Job. Thanks for the great video.
Thank you so much for watching
Great video! Question: I bought a home with a fully finished basement and my sump pump pit has a mystery white pvc pipe that enters it from the basement area. I asked the previous owners what I goes to and they said there is a floor drain in the basement but cannot remember where it was. They were both older folks that had the basement finished in 2003 just 2 years after they built the home so I understand how they could forget. Everything is carpeted and tile so I can’t see where the top of drain would be and the area I’m suspecting (under stairs by the furnace/water heater) is all tile! I want to find the drain and pop tile so I can use it for my furnace condensate line instead of the little pump that’s there now that pumps it up and into a pvc line somewhere. Basically I just want to omit the condensate pump, drain to floor so it goes to sump on other end of basement. Question is, would a pipe finder still work but didn’t have the camera snake? How can I find where the heck this damn drain grate is!!??? Thanks
See I'm a contractor and I do this for living all the time. I always hire an electrical eel company to come and find the exact location of pipes or drains in these occasions. I highly recommend you to hire someone to come when an inspection camera just like what I did in this video. They will be able to tell you where exactly it's located. They work with these devices on everyday basis and they know the exact locations and exact noises these machines make. And the charges are fairly cheap. As far as the drain for your furnace you really don't have to find that floor drain for it. If you hire someone that works on furnaces they will explain to you there are certain small pumps that could be installed right next to the furnace and it could pump all that condensation an extra water outside the house or in a floor drain or inside your sump pump. You necessarily don't have to have a floor drain for it.
@@renovationschool8818I appreciate your feedback. I already have a small pump right next to the furnace. The reason I want to find the floor drain assuming it’s by the furnace of course, is so I can get rid of the pump and drain to the floor drain. Problem is that the sump pit is far on other side of basement and the basement floor is all 12”X12” ceramic tile.
Is there also underlayment attached to your flooring?
Yes
Briggs ohv engines take rc12yc plugs
Vent don't need a wye

About how many hours did you spend on this shower floor retile?
Nice work. Minus music
Getting ready to attempt this. :) Thank you for the tutorial
Your explanation makes me feel like I can do it. Thanks!
Ok that's fine, I'm esure that's a good video on how to apply tile over tile. You eseem to espeak English perfectly but you are espeaking with an Espanish accent and it is so horribly annoying! It's just a bad habit that you haven't bothered to correct. In a few instances in the video you espeak the troublesome words correctly, so it's not a matter of you not being able to esay it correctly, you are just too lazy to bother to correct it. Lazy Espanish espeakers put an "es" in front of every word that starts with an "s" followed by a consonant. So "spell" becomes "espell" and "stink" becomes "estink" and "style" becomes "estyle." WE DON'T SAY IT THAT WAY IN ENGLISH!!!!!! NEVER HAVE, NEVER WILL!!!! You need to admit to yourself that words are not pronounced that way in English and practice some to get rid of that bad habit. Here you are trying to present yourself as an expert on something and a UA-cam teacher, and you don't even bother to say easy words like "sponge" correctly. Listen back to this video and count the number of times you do this, and then convince yourself that you need to do better. You sound like a total idi0t when you say it wrong. It's like listening to some gringo saying "Regaláme una agua" or "dame el mano." Only that's actually hard, this isn't.
I have same model with black steel. So far only issue I have that clock is mismatching in few hours. I have done so many times and now just give up
I’m curious how many weeks or months did it take before you had water intrusion?
"this is a demonstration only, but it must be installed by a professional only" then why you bother making a video on how to install if I cant do it myself as a home owner?
It all depends on your skill level. Trust me so many homeowners have the tools and they can do this very easily. We should not expect the universe to just run by our abilities only. God bless and all the best.
Can you lay carpet on top of those?
I don't think so Unless you screw it down to the floor in multiple places
