Join me and my Svartpilen 401 (named Gravity) as I share videos on my motorcycle experience as a new rider.
When I was looking at motorcycles, it was hard to find a lot of Svartpilen content, so I decided to contribute so that you can all benefit. I’ll share information on the Svartpilen 401, riding videos, new rider tips, and I’ll slowly start adding maintenance content as well.
Please subscribe. Please comment to share your knowledge as well!
Happy riding!
P.S. I wanted branded merchandise (for me) but you can buy some too. I put a little store together, and who knows, maybe in five years it will have provided enough money to pay for a motorcycle mod.

Svartpilen 401 - The City Riding Experience
This motorcycle handles extremely well and has a high seat position, making it wonderful in urban settings. The rider position is also ideal for visibility and comfort in the city.

Nice low speed road with some good corners. Riding with Flowers - Svartpilen 401 (Very Short Clip)
Переглядів 1332 місяці тому
My GoPro battery was dying so I only got a tiny clip of my ride with flowers, but hey, thought I would share anyway. I didn't really think about how I was going to transport these until I was at the flower shop. I figured I could tuck these into my jacket or something, and I didn't have far to ride. It worked! Sure, it covers the display, but that's not the end of the world (especially because ...

2022 Svartpilen 401. Still working beautifully after two years. No mechanical problems. Adjustment to the clutch tension helped with the Easy Shift (quickshifter) and now the quickshifter isn't garbage. I like the 2024 updates; looks like Husqvarna was paying attention to consumer feedback. But I still love my 2022 and it's been reliable for me. Great value and a ton of fun. I've been running t...
FuelX Lite - How to Know if It's Working

I wanted to do a follow up on the FuelX Lite to answer post-installation questions about the lights. The FuelX Lite will blink red when it is activated. Turn on the motorcycle and eventually you will see green lights to show that it is working. Give it some throttle if you don't see the lights flash green and eventually it will. I've had my FuelX Lite for 18 months. No issues with it or the mot...

Tank size up from 9.5L to 13L means a better range between gassing up. I'm expecting to go from about 150 miles range to 200 miles range (240 km to 320 km). Seat height is 820 mm which is about a half an inch lower than the older 835mm seat. 5 inch TFT display will be nice. Mirrors are upgraded. Plenty of other upgrades too, but these address some of the main complaints of the older models. Gre...

Shipping My Svartpilen for Moving to Minnesota
I have done this same procedure until I learn about the EVAP canister in our bikes... I am thinking about deleting it. If you haven't done it, be careful doing this.
creo que el cable negativo iba junto al original que estaba abajo no?
just done my fuelx mod yesterday the bike just feel soooo smooth now planning to upgrade dna stage 2 soon for more performance and burrrrrrrrrrr noise one concern about stage 2 since is open air, will heavy downpour give it some issue ? or washing the bike?
Shouldn’t be an issue. I haven’t had any problems over two years with this setup. I mostly keep my bike covered or in a garage but you still have the seat over it at least.
@@ridingwithgravity401 my office need to park my bike outdoor, if rain not an issue, should not worry about it, thank you mr.gravity your video educates me alot
Just bought the last of the new 2023 401 Vitpilens. Love it. Did you consider putting in a 1 up size front sprocket? I find the gearing quite low. And I do a lot of highway miles. I think 16T would be just one larger than stock.
I’ve heard good things about doing the 16 front sprocket, especially if you are mostly riding highway/commute. I hit the highways a lot but most of my riding is still city and the highway traffic here is pretty slow (Minneapolis- St Paul). I actually find myself in fifth a lot or just barely touching sixth gear. But it will lower your RPMs at highway speeds so I expect you’ll get slightly better gas mileage if you do the 16. If I had to guess, you’ll like the 16 front.
Can a 5’2 rider reach the floor? I’m considering getting a 2019 version for $3000, 1000 miles only. I wonder if there is after market suspension to lower it further
Probably not. I’m 5’6 with a 30 inch inseam and I can only tiptoe it. But, don’t tiptoe if you do get one. Get your left foot out solid on the ground so you can catch the weight. It IS pretty light at about 350 pounds wet. Best is to go sit on one if you can. I have heard of lowering the bike a few inches but don’t know a ton about that since I left it stock. There are kits out there.
Wondering if seat height is too high for me, how tall are u?
30 inch inseam, 5’6. I can’t flat foot but it’s fine. Within a week I was used to it. Just get that left foot down and right foot on the beak and you’ll be fine. Just DON’T try to tip toe it because if it starts to lean, your feet will be too close in and it will be hard to catch it. Over two years now and haven’t dropped it yet.
@@ridingwithgravity401 awesome!, thank you good sir
Mostly a lurker, but I wanted to comment and say I'm so happy to see you still riding! Makes me so bummed out when I see a smaller yt creator I like end up calling it quits. Keep the videos coming :)
Thanks!
friendly advice, please do your air filter modification at the bottom of the airbox not above it. to prevent some damage to your engine
Do you think the bolts could be 60 and 40 in length instead of 65/45? I'm having trouble finding those specific ones around here.
I suppose length would vary based on the spools you put on. I put on 10mm spools and the 65/45 worked for me. Obviously most important that everything fit well and stays in place. Worth testing the 40/60 to see if it's good ... or go up a size (50/70) and add a spacer or washers.
@@ridingwithgravity401 Thanks man, appreciate your contributions to the Pilen community!
Why did you go for the Lite versus the Pro? There isn't much of a price difference. The Pro has 10 different map settings and for $30 more you can get a handlebar mounted switch to toggle through the different settings.
I wasn't interested in the different fuel mappings; two years later, I'm more interested. 😃 At the time, I really just wanted to adjust for the high performance air filter and stage 2 air filter (airbox cover), and I didn't want to mess with mappings. I'm still very satisfied with the Lite version. For anyone who wants the mappings, it's a great deal if you're already investing in a FuelX. After two years of riding, I am certainly more interested in mucking with things, but no complaints about the Lite. I'm more interested right now in motorcycle #2 than anything else with my Svart. Only plan there is to go with Dunlop Mutants or something similar when it's time to replace the tires.
@@ridingwithgravity401 Thanks for the lengthy reply. I watched a vid on Pro versus Lite and it said setting 7 on the Pro was about equal to the Lite as far as enriching the fuel mixture. I will watch it again before I pull the trigger. Cheers!
Did I see a bunny crossing there 😂
Fun is a good adjective for this bike in the city. Tyres and breaks are fantastic. Good video 👍✌️
How much is the lowest you can adjust on the seat..in terms of mm
Thanks for the review, Colin Robinson!
Its a question that keeps getting repeated but, do you think this is a good first bike for an absolute beginner?
I hear a lot of advice to start with a lower CC, used bike, to learn - something you don't mind dropping, etc. For many people, that's the way to go. Everyone is different. Just think about what will be the safest for you, fits your budget, and gives you confidence to start your motorcycle journey. That said, I was an absolute beginner when I got my Svartpilen 401. I wanted something I could grow into, and I felt comfortable starting with this much power and taking it slow. For me, I felt good coming out of the motorcycle class. This motorcycle is really lightweight and handles well, with an upright rider position ... things that make it a good first bike. It was a little tall, so I couldn't flat foot it, but I didn't let that stop me. Over two years later, still loving this motorcycle (although I am saving up to add another, with more CC, to my garage). Curious what other people think, so everyone feel free to chime in.
@@ridingwithgravity401 Awesome to hear what you thought about the bike! I was actually eyeing the Vitpilen and had a bit of experience riding MTBs and road bikes (not motorcycles) in pretty rough terrain or some nasty downhill road corners so I have a rough idea on how the balance feels between my legs. This and the Svart have been my dream bike for nearly 3 years now, and I'm about to own one this October so that's why I was a bit apprehensive to start off with it especially with the power 🤣
@@ridingwithgravity401 Also follow up question, what kind of crash/drop protection did you add on the bike i.e. frame sliders, crash guards etc?
I didn’t put any on mine. I probably should have but I haven’t dropped it or had any accidents so it’s worked out fine without any protection.
Trying to decide between this and the Triumph Scrambler 400X
Mainly - price and features. There's a really good video about the comparison between them - I ended up getting a Svart 2022 model. Easy Shifter / Quick Shifter is a blessing. So easy to ride.
I love my ‘23 urban explorer! Being in Wyoming, I have to search for the urban part, but it has no issue going from street to gravel! Love the svart content!
Great job thank you for doing the research for me. Just follow everything you did step-by-step I’m lazy. Thanks for making my life easy.
Wind is my problem as well scary on high speeds. I like the torquiness when urban riding.
is the bike top heavy?
No TLDR; it’s only about 350 pounds wet, so it’s very lightweight. It feels very balanced from a weight distribution standpoint. The battery is up under the seat and you could swap it for a lighter weight battery…but not top heavy IMHO.
I would concur on all counts. Its really a great bike, I've had mine for a year and the only complaint I have is power. I've fully adjusted to the speed and I'm thinking of trading it in for the 701 or 801 or Yamaha r7
Well I thought we can lower the rear suspension down ? No ?
Yes, adjustable suspension. Some model years and regions don’t, but my 2022 bought in the U.S. has adjustable suspension. You can also get a lowering kit, but I didn’t do that.
Have you ever had to change your chain since you bought it? How often do you lube the chain and tenaion it? How many miles since you bought it?
I’m at maybe 7500 miles or something. Was putting miles on faster when I could ride year-round but poor thing has to sit in the garage in winter now. I clean the chain about every 600 miles or at least once a month. Here’s a video I did about that. ua-cam.com/video/w2W1KsX9Tnc/v-deo.htmlsi=3vQ3Jrnsmo8DQ5hu I have not had to replace the chain. It’s been adjusted at service intervals but I haven’t had to adjust it otherwise. It’s been really good for me, and then I just clean and lube it regularly. The main thing I’ve had to do is check and top off the tires every couple of months. I have a portable air pump that works magically for that.
Hey! Do you know how to remove the front wheel fender. Because I can't remove mine. And I need to remove it for cleaning
I don’t. Haven’t had to muck around with it yet. Anyone here have some insight for @cykablyat8935? There is a pretty active Svartpilen Facebook group. You might try messaging there.

i got 2 long velcro strap (approx 90cm each) on my rack and i tie them as a X (cross) pattern when not in use. it make the rack way more useful, just use the frame as multiple angle point you can hold lot's of thing on it planning upgrade the strap into rok strap soon
first exhaust I've heard that makes the 401 sound mean
Did anyone lowered it and has some experience about it to share?
Very nice bike❤
How is it passing and being passed by 18-wheelers on the highway?
Not fun, but depends on how windy it is. On a calm day, even at highway speeds, it’s okay. On a windy day, especially a cross-wind, more on the not fun side.
A flat tire and a license plate that came loose do suck but the great part is that it was at least not the bikes fault and this can happen to any brand of motorcycle. To all who are interested in this bike I personally encourage you to get it. I just got the 2023 model and in the past 3 months I only put just over 1300 miles on it and it has been great for me as well. It gets quite a bit of complements. Gravity my friend, thank you for another great video and you are one of the few youtubers who helped me make my decision on the bike.
It's like a pet ever wants to play. Good sentence 👌
Couldnt agree more - bought one a year ago and thought it was boring at first (first bike, was underwhelmed by power), but then I started flooring it everywhere - it instantly became 10x better. Plus, the lookback factor holds up beautifully - I still light up seeing it in the garage every single time I park it.
I second that! Couldn't agree more!
Absolutely. Even I was disappointed with its power at the first gear. But I was surprised how fast it goes at higher gears. Plus, as you said, dismounting the bike on a rainy day and looking back at it from a distance along with everyone at a cafe is just an amazing feeling. I rode it through mountains and across the country (about 5,000 km) and about 8,000 km in urban areas so far.
A thing to consider against clip-ons, huh.
How do you deal with Highway Riding, I got the same bike as you a few months back. Now that I’m not terrified, I go alil faster and my right hand goes numb. Does that happen to you too? Happens to me in twisties when I’m really getting at it and the highway sometimes
I suspect that will go away with time. My hands were sore when I started riding, from working the clutch and throttle. Eventually it went away. I still get sore sometimes, but usually that’s just if I’m out for three+ hours without resting.
On second thought, you said “numb” not “sore.” I haven’t had any numbness except when riding in colder temps. Sore, yeah. Numb, no. Maybe it’s my riding position??? I’m only 5’6 so I can hug the tank and lower myself without having to put much pressure on my handlebars… just thinking out loud.
Great idea!!! 👏👏👏
Too bad the 2024 isn’t available anywhere.
I had a 2023 401 that I had for 2.5 months. The bike used the cheapest parts known to man. I broke 2 bolts (a led turn signal, and a headlight bolt) when hand tightening into place. The metal looked as porous as a cookie and just about as brittle. Like recycled aluminum that couldn’t be recycled anymore. I had other bolts that started to thread out and then the head just stripped off when the bolt met a slight resistance due to poor threading. The plastic Speedo cover always had terrible swirl marks that no amount of polishing could remove and the throttle felt jerky even with the fuel-x lite. I’ve never been so disappointed with a new purchase before. Didn’t feel safe riding it with how fragile the bolts were. Ended up selling it for a Suzuki 8s. Sorry, I just needed to vent and see if anyone else noticed the extremely poor workmanship on theirs. I never made fun of India or china products but I don’t think I’ll be buying anything made outside Japan again.
So sorry you had a horrible experience with your Svart, but I’m glad you’ve got a different bike and hope that’s working out for you. Venting is welcome here. People need to learn from more than just my experience (which has obviously been good). Happy and safe riding out there! 🏍️
Its a single so it has the single characteristics with the throttle, it is the same on all singles, rides like a dirt bike :D. Suzuki 8 will be way smoother so it will definitely way smoother, like night and day :D
How is the fuel economy on using the fuelxlite?
I get about 57 Miles per Gallon, with mixed city/highway riding. That’s 5 or 6 MPG less than I was getting stock.
@@ridingwithgravity401 oh I see what setting are you in right now?
I own a 2023 svart and currently at my 600kms starting to experience the stalling :D
I’m running the Lite version, which I believe is the same as Pro setting 6 (assuming that’s what you mean).
I have had my bike do the phantom stall a few times but not that’s much (just a few times over two years). BUT these bikes run lean and I hear about others having a much worse problem with stalling. This sounds like something that might warrant taking it to the dealership in case something is defective. Replacing the spark plug might help if that’s the culprit. Either way, please keep us posted and I hope it gets sorted soon so you can enjoy riding! Best of wishes!!! 🏍️
Would you recommend getting a new 2024 Svartpilen stock or a previous model with the mods you have done?
I don’t think you can go wrong with either one. It would partly depend on the price difference and if it is a private seller or dealership, level of trust in the seller, etc. I opted to buy my 2022 Svart new, even though there wasn’t really a difference compared to older used ones. The 2024 has decent upgrades, so despite style preferences, if the price is right, I would buy new again - especially if I wanted to keep it for a long time. I like knowing everything that’s been done to my bike and how it has been ridden. Also, I’ve had mine for two years with no issues, still rocking the original battery. It’s been super reliable but if something happened tomorrow, I’d be like, okay… something was going to happen eventually. If I sold mine and something happened with it shortly after, I’d feel horrible. I don’t expect that, but as it ages it is bound to have some problems. Almost every car I’ve owned has been used. But if there’s not much price difference, I lean toward new. That’s just me. There are some motorcycles out of my budget that I would only buy used. 😃
It really is the ultimate city motorcycle, super fun blasting around neighborhoods and bouncing over obstacles like train tracks. Very tempting to go urban off-roading… I totally agree that the svart is tons of fun, even after a few years of riding. It seems perfect for your usage in the city, I bet an upgrade would be wasted at this point. Two bikes is always better than one 😮
I have a 2023 Svartpilen and the Fuel X Lite is giving the engine light on. When i remove it, the engine light goes off, and i rode it for a little more than 70km without any engine light. I'm planning to reinstall it, and try again one more time, if the engine light come on, definitely I have a faulty Fuel X Lite unit.
Let us know how it turns out. I haven’t had that issue myself. The only time my check engine light was on, it turned out my exhaust had come a bit loose. I tightened it up and that was that.
Might not be the issue but make sure you grounded the fuel x lite on the negative terminal and that your connectors were in nice and snug. Worst case, make sure you registered your fuel x lite's warranty as there was a document that came with your unit with it's serial number on it, just follow the instruction's on powertronics website to activate it if you have not done so already. It wants your purchase invoice number and date so make your you still have that email so you can register it, again if you have not done so already. The reason I mentioned is because I remember a guy on another video who stated his fuel x lite for his ktm 390 was acting up and kept the check engine light on all the time so he was sent a replacement. All owners outside of India get a 1 year factory warranty. You can also email powertronics directly and see what they say. Based on my experience, the customer service rep is very happy to respond to emails, and does so within 24 hours. I wish you success.
hold on to that bike it's worth it.
👍
How is the wind noise and which helmet are you wearing? I find the wind noise on my Svart loud and have a BIltwell, Gringo SV helmet. Thanks!
I usually wear a Shoei GT Air II helmet. The wind noise isn’t too bad, but I always ride with Alpine MotoSafe earplugs so that’s mainly why I don’t really even think about it. Those are great earplugs; you can still hear other noises but it does great with wind noise and they are extremely comfortable (and easy to get in/out)

I have thought about it for sure, and I would probably do that and a tail tidy at the same time. Will likely store up some projects for winter. Ride safe! 🏍️
