Svartpilen 401 - The City Riding Experience
This motorcycle handles extremely well and has a high seat position, making it wonderful in urban settings. The rider position is also ideal for visibility and comfort in the city.

Riding with Flowers - Svartpilen 401 (Very Short Clip)

    Great vid.... I have installed mine following the video, very easy to follow. I only have the red flashing lights....i have revved the bike quite a bit and no green light. Unplugged everything and gone through same process and still no green light. Do they need to be ridden for the fuelx to register ? Thanks

    • @ridingwithgravity401
      @ridingwithgravity401 7 днів тому

      Post-install it needs to learn so it can continue to auto-calibrate. I've heard some people leave the bike running for 10 or 15 minutes. Personally, once I had the red lights, I was like, "Cool. Good." And then I just rode it around like normal. I wanted the FuelX Lite to learn based on actual riding. I didn't notice a big change for a few rides. If anything, it actually felt a little slower for the throttle to respond at first. After a couple of rides, that went away. The green lights show that it's making adjustment. I didn't actually look for those until later - out of curiosity.

      I saw the nuts and they are the 2 of them in one side, the right side you think that's the reason of the slipping?

    • @ridingwithgravity401
      @ridingwithgravity401 22 дні тому

      It’s easy enough to adjust the tension and see if it helps. But if that doesn’t help then I would take it in. I’ve seen others with nuts on the same side. As long as they hold their place and the tension is good, should be fine. I suspect the tension is too low to the left side of the mechanism, so it can’t properly engage. But hard to know. Again, worth playing with it to see if it helps because you can always screw it back. Just remember how many turns you did and in what direction so you can easily undo whatever you do. 😃

    I know it's been two years, but above that silver part there is an overflow drain that drops the extra fuel under the bike. Unless you look you won't see it, but you're overfilling if you have fuel over the silver hole and you're filling up all your vent lines with fuel that's just wasted.

    Hey Gravity, I'd like to know more about how garbage the quickshifter was prior to getting it fixed. Was it simply not working? or was it working but just shifting harshly? I ask as I just got a second-hand svart and while using my quickshift it shifts pretty harshly and makes me not ever want to use it as I can use my clutch for substantially smoother shifts, even as a new rider (tho comfortable with clutch work on manual transmission cars). This makes me wonder if my clutch might just need adjusting to get my quickshift to work smoothly instead of the donkey kick it currently is.

    • @ridingwithgravity401
      @ridingwithgravity401 Місяць тому

      It worked "most" of the time with a very solid kick. Sometimes it did not work. I'd say maybe 75% of the time it worked. When I got it back from the shop, they had tightened the clutch cable (too far, in my opinion) so it was really hard for me to manually shift, but the quickshifter was working like butter. Beautiful! I introduced slack into the clutch cable and the quickshifter returned to its garbage state of working. So I kept messing with it. I mostly adjusted down on the right side. Ended up not as tight as the dealership shop had done it, but gave up some play in the clutch in favor of the quickshifter performance. What your describing sounds consistent. Hopefully the answer is to adjust it. You can experiment by tightening (increase the amount of tension) in that clutch cable. It's easy to do, and easy to "un-do." Personally, if that didn't work, I would wait for my next scheduled service and point out specifically if they could check the quickshifter (in the hope of having it covered by regular service checks where they inspect and adjust all that stuff, instead of a specific maintenance activity I have to pay for).

    Just bought the last of the new 2023 401 Vitpilens. Love it. Did you consider putting in a 1 up size front sprocket? I find the gearing quite low. And I do a lot of highway miles. I think 16T would be just one larger than stock.

    • @ridingwithgravity401
      @ridingwithgravity401 2 місяці тому

      I’ve heard good things about doing the 16 front sprocket, especially if you are mostly riding highway/commute. I hit the highways a lot but most of my riding is still city and the highway traffic here is pretty slow (Minneapolis- St Paul). I actually find myself in fifth a lot or just barely touching sixth gear. But it will lower your RPMs at highway speeds so I expect you’ll get slightly better gas mileage if you do the 16. If I had to guess, you’ll like the 16 front.

      Probably not. I’m 5’6 with a 30 inch inseam and I can only tiptoe it. But, don’t tiptoe if you do get one. Get your left foot out solid on the ground so you can catch the weight. It IS pretty light at about 350 pounds wet. Best is to go sit on one if you can. I have heard of lowering the bike a few inches but don’t know a ton about that since I left it stock. I wasn't interested in the different fuel mappings; two years later, I'm more interested. 😃 At the time, I really just wanted to adjust for the high performance air filter and stage 2 air filter (airbox cover), and I didn't want to mess with mappings. I'm still very satisfied with the Lite version. For anyone who wants the mappings, it's a great deal if you're already investing in a FuelX. After two years of riding, I am certainly more interested in mucking with things, but no complaints about the Lite. I'm more interested right now in motorcycle #2 than anything else with my Svart. Only plan there is to go with Dunlop Mutants or something similar when it's time to replace the tires.

      I hear a lot of advice to start with a lower CC, used bike, to learn - something you don't mind dropping, etc. For many people, that's the way to go. Everyone is different. Just think about what will be the safest for you, fits your budget, and gives you confidence to start your motorcycle journey. That said, I was an absolute beginner when I got my Svartpilen 401. I wanted something I could grow into, and I felt comfortable starting with this much power and taking it slow. For me, I felt good coming out of the motorcycle class. This motorcycle is really lightweight and handles well, with an upright rider position ... things that make it a good first bike. It was a little tall, so I couldn't flat foot it, but I didn't let that stop me. Over two years later, still loving this motorcycle (although I am saving up to add another, with more CC, to my garage). Curious what other people think, so everyone feel free to chime in.

      @@ridingwithgravity401 Update around 2 months later, I got the Vitpilen! You were 100% right about learning to get into the power, its "slow" if you ride slow. Once you give it some gas though, it'll pull plenty to overtake the scooters and underbone bikes on the highways. I ride a bit on the safer side anyway since I just started out but its plenty to learn with. Flat footing isnt much of a problem with riding boots on even though we're the same height. Wouldn't say its a "lightweight" bike, but then again I may not have enough seat time with it to call it light yet.

    Have you ever had to change your chain since you bought it? How often do you lube the chain and tenaion it? How many miles since you bought it?

    • @ridingwithgravity401

      I’m at maybe 7500 miles or something. Was putting miles on faster when I could ride year-round but poor thing has to sit in the garage in winter now. I clean the chain about every 600 miles or at least once a month. Here’s a video I did about that. ua-cam.com/video/w2W1KsX9Tnc/v-deo.htmlsi=3vQ3Jrnsmo8DQ5hu I have not had to replace the chain. It’s been adjusted at service intervals but I haven’t had to adjust it otherwise. It’s been really good for me, and then I just clean and lube it regularly. The main thing I’ve had to do is check and top off the tires every couple of months. I have a portable air pump that works magically for that.

    Hey! Do you know how to remove the front wheel fender. Because I can't remove mine. And I need to remove it for cleaning

      I don’t. Haven’t had to muck around with it yet. Anyone here have some insight for @cykablyat8935? There is a pretty active Svartpilen Facebook group. You might try messaging there.

    I know that road well, grew up down the street from Macalester college and shredded all over on bicycles as a kid.

    i got 2 long velcro strap (approx 90cm each) on my rack and i tie them as a X (cross) pattern when not in use. it make the rack way more useful, just use the frame as multiple angle point you can hold lot's of thing on it planning upgrade the strap into rok strap soon

      Not fun, but depends on how windy it is. On a calm day, even at highway speeds, it’s okay. On a windy day, especially a cross-wind, more on the not fun side.

    A flat tire and a license plate that came loose do suck but the great part is that it was at least not the bikes fault and this can happen to any brand of motorcycle. To all who are interested in this bike I personally encourage you to get it. I just got the 2023 model and in the past 3 months I only put just over 1300 miles on it and it has been great for me as well. It gets quite a bit of complements. Gravity my friend, thank you for another great video and you are one of the few youtubers who helped me make my decision on the bike.

      I'm getting my A2 license and I'm thinking about getting the Svartpilen, well thinking, my hearts wants it, also my brain wants it hahaha is it easy for a newbie to ride this bike? I think the position is a bit different to other bikes, also I'm learning on a kawa Z400 naked, in case it compares with it or where is it different, would be interesting to know
