    If you drill a 1/4 inch hole in the interior panel where you need to access the screw you can tighten it properly.

    You can access the damm screw without removing the bottom panel completly. Unscrew the upper left hand screw of the bottom panel and lift the Panel up clear of the plastic hooks and bend the front of the panel to get acesss to that screw. Thanks for this video.

    • @ford-fix

      The bypass is so that you don't have to take the entire dash apart to get to the two parts I show in the video (resevoir and check valve). Hope this helps.

    I have an issue: with the knob selector on the vent position, the air blown is warm no matter the temperature knob position. I have found a work around to get cool air: rotate the selector knob on floor or mix, then immediately back to vent and now I have cool air. Has anybody experienced the same issue and what is the fix?

Pulled out old sending unit and plugged it in without being in the tank and moved the lever with my hand and my gas gauge would show if I had it on empty, half way or full. Is the sole purpose of this bypass to avoid taking the dash out and apart? What exactly is the problem, the reservoir develops a crack and leaks? Are all years of Econoline affected? Is it better in the end to remove the dashboard permanently to leave all interior parts accessible for service?

  • @cvcoco

    I thought it was a blower motor failing. Wasted money. My dash vents would turn on and off. My buddy said check the defrost and there was air blowing there, so I researched it on the road and "fixed" it with a zip tie to hold it in dash vent position. Now that we are in camp, I found your EXCELLENT video and ordered parts. $79.49 via the links you provided and the RV will be ready for our big summer trip. Thanks man!!

I’m gonna try this Edit - I did this fix last night and it worked great! And it didn’t even cost me $5 because it was all done with stuff I already had lying around. Hopefully this is the last time I have to fix this damned thing. Whoever designed the location of that 8mm screw that holds on the actuator should receive the masochist award… Thanks!

    • @ford-fix
      @ford-fix 8 місяців тому

      I would check all the connections to make sure they are tight and recheck all the steps. If that doesn’t work, you may have a vacuum leak somewhere else in the system. For example, the other day I was working on the heater core in the back of the van (the same van you see in the video) and the vacuum line for the blend door in the back came loose and I didn’t realize it until the ac started going to defrost. Why? Because there was a vacuum leak in the system somewhere. I reconnected the line and it works fine again. I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. -Robert

    This video is amazing. Thanks so much. Question: what if I don't have the red vacuum line "going to the engine"? Where is that red vacuum line going? Everything else makes sense except I don't know what to do if I don't have that initial red vacuum line.

    • @ford-fix
      @ford-fix 10 місяців тому

      The red line (sometimes black in some vans) is actually coming from the engine which is the source of the vacuum being produced to power the actuators. The “red line” begins at the engine, more specifically on top of the engine at the intake manifold. If I were you, I would look at some engine diagrams for your year and find the vacuum source on the intake manifold. You should find the “red line” there. -Robert

    Lord bless you sir. I have a 1997 e150 which is the only vehicle to take my 80 year old mom back and forth 60 mins each way to a hospital in Miami. The AC died like this two weeks ago. The shop said 1500 which was not affordable with all my mom's cancer expenses. You helped me fix this for around 30 bucks. I am also a lady with 5/10 mechanic skills so a dash removal was not something I could do. But this was and it fixed it. It has never blown so hard and cold.
