An early fuzzed out demo version of the song Hold Yer Head, which would become much more orchestral and sparse on the final record.
The Flaming Lips with The Boredoms - Hit Me Like You Did the First Time

The legendary Boredoms x Lips live collab from Philadelphia Lollapalooza 1994. Quickly threw together a couple clips to give the sound some visuals. Fun clip of Ronald goofing around with the Boredoms in their dressing room.

Another very dry and direct Lips soundboard recording that I doctored up with some EQ, compression, and reverb. There's only so much that can be done with these types of recordings, but it's in my opinion a step up from the raw tracks. Featuring some great raucous performances and a particularly cacophonous finale of Oh My Pregnant Head. Enjoy!

The source for this is a very high fidelity yet very dry and direct soundboard recording. Being a direct soundboard recording, the mix followed whatever the sound guy had turned up through the PA at any given time. However after applying some creative EQ, compression and reverb, it has a much more live and cohesive sound. Please enjoy this fantastic document from the last year of the Ronald Jon...

He could have just also said that she uses Crisco. 🤷🏽♀️
Was this the tour where they opened for The Buthole Surfers?
The lead singer looks nothing like he used to
My dad opened up for them at this show. His band was called Sloppy Joe and the Random Rhythm Section. He’s told me stories from this show.
They whaled for over 39 minutes without even playing one song!
Ronnie Fuckin Jones!!!
I was a little kid, my older brother had this album and that's all I wanted to be, and seeing Polaris on pete and pete, I learned guitar played in bands, no one stayed with the early 90s alternative, independent, grunge sound like I always wanted
❤kindergarten love Flaming Lips
It looks like Jonathan is singing this(?)
Wished we could have got the whole Mountainside performance! They are rockin!
Do you happen to have The Verve's set from right before FLs?
I was there
Setlist: Mountain Side (3:00) When Yer Twenty Two (9:44) Moth in the Incubator (13:46) Superhumans (19:33) She Don't Use Jelly (23:01) One Million Billionth of a Millisecond on a Sunday Morning (27:30) The Process (37:05)
This is one my favorite incarnations of The Lips! ❤ what a cool show! Thanks for posting!
Grungy?
I miss the days of moshing to anything that was cool and energetic. Also I love the image of the woman making the face on his mike stand. It was used for the Sonic Youth album EVOL which is one of my favorites from them.
I was at this show. I was 65% deaf for the next week. The acid was great. I was at the front of the stage the whole time. Loud ass magic. ❤
I was there. I showed up just for Luna and The Lips. The rest of the show I gave two hoots, or not even. I remember Luna giving a great show and The Lips were fantastic...and LOUD. Seriously, when Mountain Side broke in, it was like standing behind a learjet.
I was never a fan of this era of "The Lips". Mr.Coyne singing like a "dumb okie" about nonsense. It feels like a cash grab. Like when Dinosaur Jr. went to a major label and J. Mascis became a parody of himself. Wayne Coyne, does this parody of an "Okie" with a pitchy voice. Long gone are the days of "There You Are"....an actual ballad for for the weird in Oklahoma, An anthem for the folks who feel isolated in a weird American state. I wish "grunge" never happened. I wish the record companies had stuck with teen groups. if that meant that, the bands I loved from the late 80/early 90's only had ONE more record, left in them....well...they'd be earnest.
Ronald is the great under appreciated alt rock guitarist of the alt/grunge era. Ronald Jones
This was when they were the greatest rock band on the planet
I think Wayne is the definition of "pitchy", lol. Great voice tho
I like that I can't hear anything but the bass lol
The riff is so good the lyrics dont even matter. 😅 Such a good song.
we miss u tastyslopsicle
One of them should run for president
Incredible job on the sound change. I’m familiar with the original audio. ❤
Best thing Oklahoma ever gave the world
Best era lips. Was there and at multiple other shows in the years just before and after. They were focusing on the music and the spectacle came second. Lips and My Bloody Valentine were the vanguard at this point (and Slint) all in very different ways.
Steven D is my favorite musician of all time He is on another plane
I really miss when the Flaming Lips used to be a rock n roll band. Love this!
Saw them again last night in GR. Different music. Different vibe. Still a great experience.❤
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Man, this is truly early footage. Fun to see.
I'm a bit confused about how the Lips seem to be headlining here. Is this the main stage?
Yes! Its the mainstage. I was there😀
@@magnusledman6816 How come they had a headline slot? I saw them at the Phoenix Festival (UK) the same year and I seem to remember it was so early I'd only just finished my breakfast!
IMO among the greatest bands on the planet at the time.
Mountainside!!! My college band used to cover this. Still have tinnitus
Its almost a ritual. especially on good drugs
Why is this a “remaster”? Was it originally mastered?
Back when the The Lips were a BAND
I saw a couple shows at webster hall, like eels, and eels. But this show reminds me that lide isnts as bad as all that. Thanks.
This must be college music. And I hate fields.
This is awesome! Is this your video that you shot and if so, do you have any more?! Thank you!
He speaks with such humility. Yet such defiance. Their signature-song "She Don't Use Jelly," with major MTV coverage would not come out for another 5 years, in 1993.
First dose of legal psilocybin. And this one found me. Paid for by OHP, the great state of Oregon! What a time to be alive ❤️🔥
I never really cared for the album version of Barbary Coast, but man that shit live is freakin epic🎇 Its definitely a tune to stretch wayy out if you knowwhatimean.
Around 20:35 some real magic happens
Lyrics are hilarious, but he sounds like he's trying not to laugh, as if he just cannot believe that this is the song he has to perform on cable tv. Had to be one of those total screw around throw away tunes that they never thought would amount to anything.
no, it's a complex song to play on guitar, especially to incorporate the multiple guitar parts, lots of time and thought went into that song.
@@joejones9520yes I’ve been thinking a lot today about the harmonic complexity that happens between the bass guitar, the rhythm chords, and the lead guitar notes. A very rich experience. I keep playing it over and over and over again incessantly the last few days, just as I did when I got the cassingle when it was brand new.
What blows my mind is both the Lips and Ween performed with The Boredoms
The were the SHIT at this point they absolutely rocked so amazing
Wow... I was at this show!
Flaming Lips Category totally amazing 94 right before someone left
